Congratulations on your admission into the department. It is one of the top programs in the country and I believe you will have a fabulous experience.
Having said that, there are lot of precautions you need to take before resumption. You will need to create a definite goal for yourself before coming in. The programming courses in the curriculum are not stringent enough for a contemporary computer program, so you have to work by yourself. Most computer engineering students work on software based projects as the infrastructure for engineering is not really sufficient. If you want a top grade, you need to totally dedicate your time to studying hard. Engineering students generally face the toughest challenge in 200 level when they take challenging courses like MEE 205, MTH 201, MEE 206; the number of courses is also many at this stage. Summarily, stay with your books and do not be distracted because you will be tempted to.
You may then ask me when you are supposed to acquire technical skills. Use your holidays and strikes. You still have about four months till May so you will do yourself a great deal if you pick up a Java or C# book and use the internet to learn the basics of these courses. No one will spoon feed you in that department.
Anything less than a 4.0 is not too advantageous, so that should be your benchmark. Good luck.

Let's take another look.

Given y'+y=0, differentiating both sides w.r.t. x gives a new differential equation
y''+y'=0.

It is really a heresy to say that both differential equations are equivalent since y'+y=0 has the solution y=C e^-x, whereas y''+y'=0 has the solution y=C₁+C₂e^-x.

Because y'+y=0 is easier to handle and it's solution satisfies y''+y'=0, I can not conclude that both differential equations has the same (general) solution.

So, I will say that the two differential equations you compared are not equivalent.

C + O₂ --> CO₂
from the equation, it can be seen that
1 mole of C will yield 1 one mole of CO₂, then changing to mass and volume respectively as required by the question;
12g of C = 22.4dm³ of CO₂, so
5g of C = x;
x = (22.4 * 5)/12
x = 9.3333dm³
== 9333.3cm³ since 1dm³ = 1000cm³

first and foremost, what is half life?
the time required for one half the atoms of a given amount of a radioactive substance to disintegrate. So to your question, since the half life of the substance is 80 days, at the end of the first 80 days, half of the initial number of atoms must have decayed to remain 3 x 10^10 atoms, after another 80days(160 days altogether), 1.5 x 10^10 will be left, after 240 days, 0.75 x 10^10 then at the end of 320 days, 0.375 x 10 ^10 = 3.75 x 10^9atoms will remain.

if 2^x = p then
x != sqrt(p) ( x is not a square root of p)
you might want to check it out using numbers.
2³ = 8 but the sqrt of 8 is not equal to 3. smiles

More so, a pure substance has a definite boiling point while an impure substance boils over a range of temperature, just as you know that impurities elevate the boiling point while it lowers the melting point of substances. On a final note, a pure substance while produce just one spot on a paper chromatogram since it contains just a single entity.

Good morning house, please is there a separate thread for direct entry candidates for this year? If none, please I need an insight on how DE process is from the scratch and is it advisable to apply into computer science department considering the competitive nature of the department and the number of DE candidates they admitted this year (applying with distinction though).
