Politics / Re: Gov Alex Otti Commissions GEOMETRIC POWER PLANT + Aba, Abia State To Enjoy 24/7 by matify83: 5:57pm On Feb 26
Let there be light!

Aba, the commercial nerve center of the Easter heartland has claimed history in becoming the first industrial hub to enjoy 24/7 uninterrupted power.

Kudos to the dogged determination of prof. Berth Nnaji for this laudable project.

I see same replicated in major towns and cities across Nigeria.

The Saraki led 8th senate still remains the best and most vibrant, that was alive to its constitutional role of checks and balance of executive rascality.

Buhari only started misbehaving after the expiration of the 8th senate and the enthronement of the Ahmed Lawal puppet show.

Akpabio is gunning to break Ahmed Lawals record in "rubber stamping" as there seems to be no clear distinction between the executive and the legislature.

Politics / Re: Senator Kalu Urges NLC To Cancel Planned Protest Over Hardship by matify83: 3:26am On Feb 26
How people are surviving with the paltry minimum wage is a mystery.

The senator is oblivious of what Nigerians are going through.

A recent survey has proven that an emolument of 300k in Nigeria today puts you firmly in the poor social strata.

Nothing is wrong with it!

The aunty you use to know has succumbed to the vagaries of the economic reality that has befallen Nigeria.

If only you had sent some "Benjamins" ahead of your visit, i assure you that you would have met a BANQUET

"The offensive note verbale from the Qataris is tantamount to someone accepting your request to visit his or her home while telling you at the same time that they won’t be home".

What is special about Qatar that we should be courting for investment?

It's a big shame that a more endowed nation like Nigeria has through sheer mismanagement of our resources over time reduced herself to a beggar nation .

The reforms in the banking and Fx sectors are coming in fast and furious at dizzying speeds.

The North may misconstrue this as an attack on their business interest but who gives a hoot as long as it brings sanity to the Fx market and stability in the naira value.

Medicine after death.

He already used his mouth to tell us that "COURAGE" took control of him and that the famed "subsidy is over" speech was off script.

Why the damage control by the uncle Bayo?

We are all reaping the unintended consequences of that "COURAGE "

With the way Bayo is going, he may surpass "Lie " Mohammed with propaganda o!

Nigeria is not beyond salvageable .

Cost cutting measures is not in the dictionary of Asiwaju at least not for himself and his hangers-on.

As we speak, he is begging and has finally been granted a business summit in Qatar which will see a large entourage of business people travelling to Doha at government's and Nigeria's expense.

We haven't recovered from the scandal that greeted the last UNGA conference in America.

It is the masses making all the sacrifices while the elite politicians are living carefree lives.

A government of the Waziri or PO would have had a human face than the draconian rule of Asiwaju.

The Lagos boys with laudable credentials are having a tough time reining in galloping inflation, curtailing crimes and criminality and most pathetic of all stabilising the naira.

The hand writing was already on the wall. A house dividedagainst itself can not stand.

The country is too charge for such an undertaken. The government might see it as an affront and attempt to discredit them and import thugs and miscreants to disrupt a peaceful process thereby giving credence to their earlier warnings.

It's in the best interest of NLC to shelve this protest. It will be a "WAR/FIGHT OF BLAME" if they allow sound reasoning to fall on deaf ears and go ahead with the protest.

Religion / Re: Phones Being Charged In Church (Photos) by matify83: 3:16pm On Feb 25
nairalanda1:

The basic reason why we don't have power is simple...we don't let the power sector charge cost reflective tarrifs. That has been the problem even before privatisation and after privatisation

That means that the sector loses money every year, and does not have the money to make the important fixes needed to improve things.

AM sure you will say I am defending government...to which I respond...if you were doing a job, for say N500000 monthly, and employer is paying you N20000 instead, would you be happy? Would you have the financial capability to do the job well?

Our power sector suffers from not being allowed to charge a cost reflective tarrif, from people refusing to pay for the power they use (including our President, who then beat down the cost...when informed..smh), from sabotage for nefarious means, and from a subsidy that does not pay for the losses incurred in charging for power at a loss.

Ghana and Ivory coast...charge somehwere around 186.71 naira per kwh of power. Nigeria charges 50-71 naira per kwh. The Ghanaians and Ivoriens have power 24/7 because the sector has the money needed to pay for improvements needed. Ivory coast in particular privatised their sector since 1993, and since then has had power permanently. IN Nigeria, we put in price controls, force discos to charge at a loss, and blame them for 'bad management' when they fail to give us light.

I stopped blaming government in 2013 when I woke up. Sure it is still partly their fault...they don't go after power theft, they even engage in power theft, and they don't let the sector charge cost reflective tarrifs. But many of us do the same. Steal power, loot power, and then blame the sector when it cannot meet up because no money. Like the father who gives his child one slice of bread per day as food, and then blames him for being lazy to come last in his exams...when una no feed am well.

Make we and government face facts., abeg.

Can i fault the points you have raised and solutions you have adduced?
Not at all!

My one and continuous grouse with the DISCOS has always been their inability or outright refusal to meter consumers.

I want to know what i consume monthly so i can plan my power budget. A situation where you are given estimated billing just by the size of your house or other amorphous yardstick does the customer no good.

The DISCOS in my view are the bane to improvement in the power chain and until punitive measures are put in place when they refuse to uptake power from TCN or replace damaged transformers or meter consumers , we will continue to grope in darkness and pay for it.

I remembered that customers were even asked onetime not to pay for power if they were not metered after a certain period but that did not come to fruition.

The last guy doesn't have strength anymore.

Just like when triaging accident victims for urgent attention. It's the quiet ones that are more at risk of dying if not attended to promptly.

I will give it to the guy in green making only hand motion. He is also not ashamed to show who has caused his pain. He's still dressed in his oppressor's garb.

Those other guys are being dramatic unnecessarily.

All the tough talking ended up in shame at last.

We have eaten another humble pie again.

How low can Nigeria descend before this administration expires?

The once giant of Africa is being snubbed by our once small inconsequential neighbours because of "see finish"

Even Qatar just rubbed pepper on our sores by gleefully turning down a business summit at the request of Nigeria claiming to be busy.

The minders of Asiwaju should caution him that the "courage" pushing him to misyarn "up-and-down" does not work outside Nigeria o!
