CrimeRe: Suspected Kidnapper Arrested With ₦13M Cash, Arms Along Kaduna-Jos Road by matify83:
Why do I have the feeling that this kidnapper was neutralized to cover up the quantum of money pilfered from the sum recovered?

Why will an arrested kidnapper not be handcuffed and possibly placed on leg chains when leading law enforcement agents to their hideout?

They keep recycling this same story line to hoodwink gullible Nigerians while they share their looted booty.

Sudden wealth without enterprise loading!!!

To the attached pix.
If 2 bolted away and the one arrested was eventually "escorted out", who is the person in that photo?

If this picture was taken before his demise, then the soldiers have questions to answer as the cash on the floor surpasses the recovered amount quoted.

To worsen matters, the suspect in this picture is actually in hand and leg chains. Which hand did he allegedly use to disarm troops (not one soldier o!)

8 million naira that can't even buy a decent Toyota Camry is what 13 families (women plus children plus in-laws) will share for losing their bread winners?

What will 600k achieve for these bereaved families assuming the 8 million was shared equally?

Beautiful plots and twists.

When "the Lion is fully Risen", a best seller would surely come out of this war.

Wars from now hence would be more intelligence driven than by the spectacles of military ordinances and hardwares.
Foreign AffairsWhy Does Iran Launch Missiles At Night? by matify83(op): 1:46am On Jun 17, 2025
Why does Iran launch missiles at night? Tehran's tactical, technological considerations

As sirens blare and Israeli air defenses intercept incoming threats in the dead of night, a pattern has emerged in Iran’s missile strategy: darkness.

Repeated missile barrages launched from Iran during the overnight hours are no coincidence—they reflect a deliberate military and technological doctrine designed to obscure, surprise, and instill fear.

While nighttime offers obvious concealment, the choice to strike under the cover of darkness is rooted in far more than visibility. It is a combination of technical constraints, operational necessity, and psychological warfare.

Missiles, unlike aircraft, cannot rely on atmospheric oxygen for propulsion. Instead, they must carry both fuel and oxidizer—components necessary for combustion—within their systems. This is because ballistic missiles reach altitudes where oxygen is sparse or nonexistent.

This fundamental requirement divides missiles into two categories: those powered by liquid fuel and those using solid fuel—each with its strategic implications.

Liquid fuel: Powerful but exposed

Iran's long-range missiles, including the Shahab series, typically use liquid fuel. These missiles require a complex fueling process before launch, involving two separate tanks—one for fuel and one for oxidizer. The operation is time-sensitive, hazardous, and requires stationary launch infrastructure and ground crews.

This makes the fueling stage the missile’s most vulnerable window, especially under the watchful eye of enemy satellites and surveillance aircraft.

To reduce the risk of detection and attack, Iran often conducts fueling operations at night, when visibility is low and the chances of aerial detection drop significantly.

Solid fuel: Mobile and ready

In contrast, short- and medium-range missiles such as the Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar are typically powered by solid fuel. These systems are pre-loaded with a mix of fuel and oxidizer in a solid form, stored within the missile’s body. They are launch-ready, do not require on-site fueling, and can be fired from mobile platforms, making them ideal for surprise strikes and decentralized warfare.

However, once ignited, solid-fuel missiles cannot be shut down or throttled. The launch is irreversible—an operational trade-off for mobility and speed.

Why missiles must carry their own oxygen
The question of why missiles need onboard oxidizers often arises. Unlike jet engines, which intake oxygen from the atmosphere, missile engines must operate in environments where oxygen is insufficient or entirely absent.
Ballistic missiles can ascend dozens—or even hundreds—of kilometers into the sky, well beyond breathable altitudes. To ensure sustained propulsion, they must carry everything needed for combustion from the outset.

Doctrine shaped by technology and tactics

Iran’s repeated use of nighttime launches is no random decision. It reflects a multi-layered military doctrine that accounts for technical realities, strategic opportunities, and the psychological dynamics of war.

By leveraging both solid and liquid-fueled missiles, mobile launch platforms, and the natural concealment of night, Iran has built a system that prioritizes survivability, surprise, and psychological impact—even when the missiles themselves fail to reach their targets.

In the ongoing battle for deterrence and defense, the timing of the launch is as critical as the missile itself.

How was Tehran so ill-prepared for war with Israel? - analysis

Iran’s failure to understand the war it was entering into is a historic failure.

Iran was caught by surprise when Israel carried out strikes early Friday morning. The war is now in its fourth day, and Tehran continues to be taken by surprise and is unable to respond to the attacks. Why is the Islamic Republic reeling so much from a war that was long discussed and that it threatened for years?

The day before Israel’s attacks, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, had said that the country was “fully prepared” for any scenario. How could he have gotten things so wrong? Was Tehran prepared? It doesn’t appear to have been prepared, as Salami was killed in the first Israeli strikes, along with other key commanders.

Although the Islamic Republic replaced the commanders quickly, it took hours for it to get its ballistic missiles ready for launch. Over the last four days, it has lost some of its missile arsenal and the launchers needed to fire the missiles.

IRAN'S MISSILE ARSENAL

This is a major blow to Iran. Without the ballistic missiles, Iran doesn’t seem to have a good way to strike at Israel.
The Islamic Republic likely had thousands of missiles capable of reaching Jerusalem, and the type and quality of these missiles have grown over the years. Some of these could have also been sent to Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. However, Iran still has a limited number of long-range missiles.

As some of the depots and stocks of the missiles are destroyed, that number dwindles. As the launchers are eliminated, it is harder to position them for launch.

Why would a country rely only on its missiles for a war? No war in history has been won solely by missiles. Russia has used missiles and Iranian-style drones for attacks on Ukraine, and Moscow has not won the war.
The Islamic Republic also has its drone arsenal for attacks on Israel. These are relatively small drones, and they also do not appear to pose a major threat. Most Iranian drones have been shot down on the way to Israel. Even if Tehran has thousands of them, it appears the drones’ wings have been clipped.

Iran’s Failure to understand the war it was entering into is historic. It had threatened to destroy Israel for years, but it didn’t seem to have gamed out how to do this.

Once Israel weakened Hezbollah in 2024, Tehran didn’t change its calculations. The Lebanese terror group was supposed to provide it with a front line against Israel, part of a multi-front war that included Hamas, the Houthis, and other groups, such as militias in Iraq. Without the Hezbollah front, the Islamic Republic had fewer options.

When the Assad regime fell on December 8, 2024, Iran lost another key ally in the region. Without Assad and Hezbollah, Tehran has no direct border with Israel.

It has tried to place proxy groups in the West Bank, and it backed the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. However, Hamas is much weaker, and the proxy groups in the West Bank, such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad, are no match for Jerusalem. The Islamic Republic has also tried to threaten the Jewish state via Jordan, but it has not succeeded.

Iran’s navy and air force are too weak to confront Israel. Its army may be large, but it can’t get to its enemy.

Tehran was also taken by surprise by Saddam Hussein’s 1980 invasion at the start of the Iran-Iraq War. The Islamic Republic relied on human wave attacks and attrition to defeat the superior Iraqi army. It also carried out what was called the “war of the cities,” attacking Iraqi cities, as it has done to Israel, and striking ships in the Persian Gulf.

However, Israel is not Iraq. It is not a front-line state with Iran. Tehran can’t rely on its strategic depth and manpower.

Jerusalem understood the Iranian threat and planned for it. Iran was called a “third circle” threat. Along with Hezbollah, Tehran was seen as the major enemy.

While Israel underestimated Hamas, it overestimated the Islamic Republic and strategized how to defeat the regime. It also carried out the campaign between the wars in Syria to weaken Iran’s efforts to move weapons to Syria and Hezbollah between 2015 and 2024. When Assad fell, its arm in Syria collapsed.

Tehran’s Inability to understand this war is not unique in history. Countries have walked into wars in the past and been surprised by their enemies. For instance, Mexico’s Santa Anna lost in the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American war in the 19th century. Santa Anna’s arrogance led to defeat.

In addition, Spain entered the Spanish-American War in 1898 assuming it could also withstand the US naval and armed forces. It was surprised when the US defeated the Spanish navy and army in Cuba and the Philippines.

There are other examples. Perhaps the most pertinent to our situation is the historic Persian Empire, which often overestimated its strength. It was defeated by the Greeks several times. The worst came when Alexander of Macedon conquered the Persian Empire and chased its leader to Bactria in Central Asia in the fourth century BCE.

Iran is not the modern Persian Empire, but it has a similar arrogance to Darius III, the Persian leader who lost to Alexander.

The war with Iran now enters a new stage as Tehran’s missile and drone forces are weakened. Iran could hold on and continue to fight, as Israel can’t bring an army to Tehran. It could also ask for a deal. Or Iran’s regime may be weakened from within.

Wars are not usually won solely from the air, though there are exceptions. In 1999, the US and NATO were able to defeat the Serbs in Kosovo largely using air power. However, there were options for a ground invasion if the air campaign failed.

Additionally, the US and a large coalition of countries mostly defeated Saddam’s army in 1991 using air power, followed by a short ground campaign. However, air power didn’t bring the Nazis victory against England during the Battle of Britain. Air power alone is not always enough.

The question for Iran is why it failed to understand the modern battlefield. Didn’t it see that its drones have not won Russia the war in Ukraine. Drones and missiles don’t win wars.

Also, why did Iran think it could deter Israel after threatening the Jewish state for so long? Did it think the US or others would get Israel to call off an attack? Was Iran so used to being the one threatening that it didn’t think anyone else could threaten it?

In the history of war, Iran’s blunder appears to be one for the record books.

I doubt if you comprehended my assertion.

I have a background knowledge of how army numbers are serialized by reasons of personal association.

My father got enlisted as an other rank into the army in 1963. His army number up until his retirement was 63NA/ 20***.

Just writing down numbers does not cut it.

From 1979, a new set of serialization started. All recruits had 79NA/ ***** as army numbers.

In recent times, especially since 2000, the year of enlistment proceeds the numbers.

I will advise you to sheath your ethnic bigotry and be opened to knowledge where you lack one.

It's not a death sentence.

Though preventable via the hepatitis B vaccine, it is not curable but manageable using anti retroviral medication.

First , go see a gastroenterologist.

You will be asked to do a liver function test, an abdominal ultrasound scan and a hepatitis B DNA viral load. It's based on these results after a thorough physical examination that medications MAY be instituted if you meet the criteria for starting.

Relax!

While the names of the other ranks is subject to confirmation, the army numbers appended against most of them are evidently spurious.

Any army number without year of enlistment embedded within it is a red flag already.

Besides, numbers running into 6 and 7 figures in the 60's up to the 70's were non existent.

There is no getting use to with these orthopedic mattresses.

I've had one that I bought over 8 years now and currently typing from it.
Thought you will enjoy the alignment of your skeletal frame but the body aches on your soft body tissue doesn't "get use to"

Using a topper like some have suggested may be an option to reducing the pressure on subcutaneous blood flow.

It's better you go for your weight grade mattress than jumping on the full orthopedic.

Used Canadian panel or brand new panels?
Brand new panels from reputable companies are surely better.

With the deluge of low quality Chinese panels in the market, you can't guarantee their efficiency .

New Panels from Renogy, Canadian Solar ,Trina Solar, Jinko Solar, LONGi Solar , JA Solar etc are some of the best in quality and true to their ascribed specifications.

The used panels are not at 100% of their rated factory efficiency however their low cost is the "pull factor" and are surprisingly still better than some low quality Chinese brand new panels.

what model of epever controller do u use... the reason i asked is because you are on 12v and the highest 150v epever controller can only make use of 1250w of pv power and that is the 100a version.... i understand you are using 350w x8 pcs which in my own case translates to either 250w or 200w that is if they are tier 1 panels...... i like keeping tins simple....
Thanks for your question.

I use 6 PCs of 350W
Canadian mono
crystalline solar panels bought as second hand. Their efficiency has certainly dropped considering their age. They have never delivered above 1000W even at the sunniest of seasons.(I have been using them for 6 years now. Their daily average is 960W between 11am and 2pm).

My epever is actually rated 60A at 150V with a generated battery amperage of 45A at 10am, and 50 - 59A at the peak period I specified above.
I sometimes fear I may fry the charge controller one of these days because it gets so hot that I begin to doubt if the heat sink actually works. But hey, this is 6 years and counting!

Most 100A charge controller will take higher wattages than what you quoted above at 12v battery configuration. For a 12v battery configuration, a 100A Felicity mppt charge controller can handle PV wattage of 1375W, and 2750W for a 24v battery assembly.
