In the past few years, Instagram has grown to become one of the most popular, most used photo sharing app. Matter of fact, just last week Instagram hit a milestone of 500 million users and 300 million daily visits . According to a report, 80%of these 500 million subscribers live outside the United States hence the importance of a translate button. Doing a little maths, it is revealed that over 400 million Instagram users are non-Americans. This would help easy communication on Instagram hence bridging the language gap has always posed a great problem for social networks. A Translate Button that translates foreign languages into something you can understand is more than welcome. Instagram, via its Instagram page announced that in the coming month, users will see a translation button on profile bios and feed stories written in languages you can’t understand. Well it's uncertain how many languages would be supported. However I think if it's connected through the Google translate API it'll be better, unless the developers have a better idea. http://www.naijatechguy.com/2016/06/instagram-to-add-translate-button-next.html Posted on www.nairaland.com

Chinese OEM Infinix is planning to unveil another family series of Infinix smartphone, known as the Hot S series. However, it's going to be the first Infinix device to have a Fingerprint sensor (biometric scanner). Previously, I made a post about the upcoming Infinix device to feature a Fingerprint scanner , revealed the device model number, but there wasyno information on device “name” as at the time of the post . After sources leaked the images of the device, I was able to get details of device specifications. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9jRrLb3Fs18/V3Kh1zj8VHI/AAAAAAAAE-s/n_4DZ5flq9w/s640/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png So, the device being anticipated is the Infinix Hot S X521 and not just that it features the biometric scanner, it also comes with the virtual reality (VR) technology. Infinix was brewing something massive and obviously nobody noticed. Regarding to the specifications of the device, Here's a brief overview of the Infinix Hot S specs. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--iBRxzw_DMY/V3Kh4T5i2CI/AAAAAAAAE-0/i1Zufea7_uw/s640/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png Leaked Specifications of Infinix Hot S X521 5.5 inches, IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow) with pre-loaded Infinix XOS interface 1.8GHz Octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor 32 GB internal storage, 3 GB RAM 13MP back, 8MP front camera Virtual reality technology Fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass sensors The specifications listed above are what we should expect from the upcoming Infinix X521 device as I managed to see ifmost of the specifications from the leaked images. However, this article remains incomplete till we've updated the price tag and some other key specifications like battery and dimension of the device. So, I advise you stay tuned. How serious and dangerous is China’s offensive on Korean and Western mobile hardware brands? Extremely Dangerous , according to research conducted between January and March by IC Insights, which predictably positioned Samsung and Apple above the smartphone manufacturer hierarchy, only followed by a flurry of handheld vendors based in the Middle Kingdom. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1Ybyhceb2Ko/V2JuFC7XhuI/AAAAAAAAE20/m7ka8_H1R0s/1466067049375.jpg Huawei won bronze during Q1 2016, with 28.9 million units sold, still considerably behind the gold and silver medalists’ 81.5 and 51.6 mil scores respectively. But OPPO exceeded its most optimistic expectations, leaping from eight place in 2015 to fourth, as it shipped 16.1 million affordable, mid-range Androids.. Xiaomi retained the fifth spot, Vivo surged from tenth to sixth, Korea- based LG dropped a slot to #7, while ZTE, Lenovo, TCL, Meizu and Micromax wrapped up the top twelve. No Sony, no Microsoft, no HTC, and no more Coolpad in the leading pack, with IC Insights forecasting an identical chain of command at the end of the year. A number of Chinese OEMs, including Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Meizu, plus India’s Micromax, are tipped to register massive year-to-year growth of between 29 and 74 percent, whereas Samsung, Apple or LG should see shipment declines ranging from 1 to 5 percent. But the Korean and US giants will remain the top two smartphone makers… for the time being. I think the main reason for the growth of the Chinese companies are due to the affordability and durability of their devices. These devices can be easily fixed at a low cost unlike Samsung, Sony, LG or Microsoft which takes a lot of money to fix up. There's no African Brand making the rounds yet. Will someone create a smartphone that will spark up the rise of African OEM's?,. Let's keep our fingers crossed and wait. http://www.naijatechguy.com/2016/06/chinese-oems-taking-over-8-out-of-top.html Via www.nairaland.com |

BlackBerry announced in late April that it would be rolling out BBM’s video calling feature to users on Android and iOS. Since then, the company has gone ahead to make it possible for users in several countries to be able to make calls using its popular messaging service. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H8fVyI-LRfw/V2hjyb8YpOI/AAAAAAAAE6c/-mRBcV0dSx4/1466459041497.jpg Users of BlackBerry Messenger in the US and Canada were the first to get the ability to make video calls in beta mode in early May. 26 Latin American countries followed on June 1st and 7 days later, BlackBerry made it possible for BBM users in 17 Middle East countries to make calls across all major mobile platforms. Starting two days ago (June 14th), BBM users in 109 countries in Africa and Europe are now able to do the same as well. In order for users to be able to chat via video on BBM, they need to be using a device with an Android version not older than version 4.4 (KitKat) and iOS 8 and above on Apple’s platform. Since the video calling feature is enabled through a server-side update, users need not do anything, it will just show up, no need to update the app on the store. The feature will be available globally to everyone starting July . BlackBerry’s late attempts to open up its core service, BBM, to competing platforms was informed by the company’s dwindling fortunes in mobile and the rise of competing services. Facebook’s Messenger platform has video calling as one of the main features across all platforms while Apple users have had FaceTime all along . Even though BlackBerry rolled out BBM to iOS and Android back in 2013, video calling had only been available to BlackBerry 10 users. Borrowing a leaf from competitor’s services and keen to stay relevant, the company is partnering with various companies to provide mobile money services inside BBM in a few markets where it is still popular. BBM is still struggling with a strong competitor - Whatsapp which has also been rumored to be working on a video calling feature as well.. Let's see if this update would bring back BBM fans. http://www.naijatechguy.com/2016/06/bbm-rolls-out-video-calling-feature-to.html Via www.nairaland.com |

I wasn't really a big fan of phones with non-removable batteries until I got a phone with one (the OBI SF1). Since I got the phone as part of payment for a sponsored review for a post I made about the phone on my blog. I decided to go with it. It's the sixth month I'm using the phone and I must say that devices with non-removable batteries can scare the hell out of you. My phone can not be dismantled since it doesn't have any screws. However some other users get lucky to buy a phone with a non-removable battery that can be dismantled.. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j-mfgN_tTCs/V2UVWzNsFrI/AAAAAAAAE5c/zr7t5tjsjnA/obi_worldphone_sf1_front_back.jpg Now Here Are Some things you should know if you are using a Device With a non-removable battery or you're planning to buy one.. 1. What To Do When Your Device Freezes (Starts Hanging) In a normal device when this happens you can simply remove your battery and put it back, everything will be OK after that. Unfortunately for those of us using phones with non-removable batteries it's like a bad dream. There are 2 types of Freezing A. Hard Freeze - This is when your device, Freezes for over 10 minutes without responding. Solution : Simply soft reboot the phone by holding the volume +, volume down and power button at the same time for about 30 seconds. Your device should reboot and unfreeze. B. Soft Freeze - This is just a temporarily freeze Solution Just drop the phone for some minutes it should unfreeze after some minutes. When it unfreezes quickly clear all the apps you've been running and reboot the phone. 2. How To Handle Overheating Since you can't remove the battery and allow the phone to cool. The best solution is to place your phone on a cold surface (please not inside a freezer or refrigerator). You may place it on a cold sachet of water. After some minutes your phone should be cool as ice.. 3. What To Do When Phone refuses to turn on This can be really scary but it can be handled. Hold the power button for about a minute or 2 if your phone is still working you it'll come on. If it doesn't well try charging it 4. Your Phone Is Charging Slowly. I made a post previously on that on my blog so I won't bore you with more of the details on that. There are 10 possible reasons You can see full details here. 10 Reasons Why Your Smartphone May Be Charging Slowly 5. Never Let Your Phone Fall Into Water Unlike Phones with removable batteries.. There's no guarantee your device will be OK after falling into water unless you're using the Galaxy S7.. Or any water proof Smartphone.. I drop my pen at this point.. My advice.. Get a domain name.. You won't be respected as with that behind your url. Also know that success in blogging doesn't depend on only writing style.. There are a lot of rules you have to break.. SEO is also important. I wish you all the best. |

Nobody saw this coming, but Microsoft has officially announced that it has reached a deal to buy LinkedIn Corp., the social-networking platform for professionals, for $26.2 billion . The announcement also states that Microsoft will pay $196 per LinkedIn share, a 50% premium to LinkedIn’s closing price on Friday. However, despite this agreement, Microsoft has affirmed that LinkedIn will still retain its distinct brand, culture, and independence. As a matter of fact, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner will still remain CEO, but will report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Wondering what Microsoft stands to gain? The acquisition is expected to add to Microsoft’s per-share earnings in 2019, but most importantly, Microsoft wants to integrate existing Microsoft software into LinkedIn. According to Nadella The deal is expected to close within the year.
