Zither: Firestar, good evening to you. http://watchthetower.net/reasons.html is where I got the information. Yes I have met Witnesses but, unfortunately, I haven't come across any since discovering the information from the link above.
I know it is ridiculous..that was my initial reaction when I read it. However, I have only posted it as it is. You can verify through the link given.
[b]we have just one website www.jw.org go there and see for yourself.

grandstar: This question can not be answered here. Its too lenghten and its objective is to cause confusion. Best you print it out and meet Witnesses one and one and enquire from them. You will receive answers backed up by the scriptures. The authors are apostates, probably witneses who were disfellowshiped. Apostle Paul said such try and draw away disciples - Acts 20:29-30. Always make sure that what ever is taught is defended by bible scriptures (Acts 17:11). Jesus did that- Matthew 4:1-10
Everything we preach is from the Bible. Ask us any question and we will answer from the holy scriptures. But who said our kingdom halls don't have windows? I can't still stop laughing.

We calculated that the end might come in 1975, but looking at what Mat 24:14 says...the end won't come until the goodnews of God's kingdom is preached in all inhabited earth. That's why we concentrate more on preaching and preaching and preaching. We are doing it like Jesus, going from house-to-house.

All our doctrine is based in the Bible, We use God's name Jehovah. That name appeared nearly 7000times in the hebrew scriptures (manuscript) because of this, they said we made our own Bible. How many times did that name Jehovah appear in your Bible.

Christianity Etc › Re: Christmas Is Idolatrous And Unscriptural - Pastor Kumuyi by Maximus85(m): 10:49am On Dec 24, 2013
rabzy: When pharaohs were crowned in ancient Egypt they were considered to have transformed into gods. This divine promotion made their coronation date much more important than their birth into the world. Scholars have pointed to the Bible's reference of a Pharaoh's birthday as the earliest known mention of a birthday celebration (around 3,000 B.C.E.), but Egyptologist Dr. James Hoffmeier believes this is referencing the subject's coronation date, since that would have been the Pharaoh's "birth" as a god.

The Greeks offered moon-shaped cakes to Artemis as a form of tribute to the lunar goddess. To recreate the radiance of the moon and her perceived beauty, Greeks lit candles and put them on cakes for a glowing effect. The Greeks most likely took the idea of birthday celebration from the Egyptians, since just like the celebration of the pharaohs as "gods," the Greeks were celebrating their gods and goddesses.

“Originally the idea [of birthday greetings and wishes for happiness] was rooted in magic. The working of spells for good and evil is the chief usage of witchcraft. One is especially susceptible to such spells on his birthday, as one’s personal spirits are about at that time. Dreams dreamed on the birthday eve should be remembered, for they are predictions of the future brought by the guardian spirits which hover over one’s bed on the birthday eve. Birthday greetings have power for good or ill because one is closer to the spirit world on this day. Good wishes bring good fortune, but the reverse is also true, so one should avoid enemies on one’s birthday and be surrounded only by well-wishers. ‘Happy birthday’ and ‘Many happy returns of the day’ are the traditional greetings” (The Lore of Birthdays, Linton, p. 20)...

The giving of birthday gifts is a custom associated with the offering of sacrifices to pagan gods on their birthdays. Certainly the custom was linked with the same superstitions that formed the background for birthday greetings. “The exchange of presents… is associated with the importance of ingratiating good and evil fairies… on their or our birthdays” (ibid.).

The traditional birthday cake and candles also have their origin in ancient pagan idol worship. The ancients believed that the fire of candles had magical properties. They offered prayers and made wishes to be carried to the gods on the flames of the candles. Thus we still have the widely practiced birthday custom of making a wish, then blowing out the candles. The Greeks celebrated the birthday of their moon goddess, Artemis, with cakes adorned with lighted candles...
The truth is right there but Satan has blinded many people

ajoguegbe: And who gave you the statistics of poor people in his church. Most of you wish pastors are poor, it is the desire of the devil too, but its too late they have discovered their rights in Christ. If you as an ordinary member realize your right in Christ and work hard, you will join the rich class, its not meant for pastors alone but some are leading by example.

It was Judas who criticized Mary for spending on Christ with the argument that such spending should have been given to the poor, an argument Jesus countered(John 12:3-5). The same old trick of the devil: trying to use compassion for the poor to stop believers from getting any favour. For crying out loud 90% people are poor by choice not by chance. Many had the same challenge that made them poor but utilized it to become rich while they were giving excuses. You don't expect me to be living poor just because their are people who refused to pay the price that I paid. Some people are making money now while some are always on Nairaland lazying and looking for the next pastor to criticize, later in life they will look for those to blame for their poverty: either government or uncle. I have told myself, I have no reason to be poor and even if I am a pastor, it has not changed my conviction. Hate me as you can, its not my fault, I labour for it like some pastors do

Disclaimer: Please note that I am not saying there are no theifing men of God, but such people often return to poverty, karma catches up with them. And even if not, they will pay the ultimate price but it is not you that should judge a God's servant(Rom 14:4), no not in a public forum, bible is against it; it is not you that should join the camp of the accuser of the brethren (Rev 12:9-11)except you are working for the devil yourself
Shut up you there, Jesus knew the intention of Judas that was why he rebuked him. You guys will twist and twist the Bible to favour your madness. Why will a pastor spend that much on just an ordinary car? Is that what Jesus preached, how rich was Jesus when he was here on earth? How many of his disciples gathered wealth? Jesus said his true followers will suffer persecution just like him, how many of these pastors are suffering persecution? They tell lies and collect peoples hard earned money and buy comforts for themselves. And you come here quoting the Bible to back up these criminals. Jesus said we are no part of this world and should avoid things of this world, yet this same so-called pastor was running for presidency. (Maybe he didn't understand Daniel 2:44)
When Jesus was wanted to be made king, he ran. He has an important assignment which is preaching about the kingdom of God not being a king in a world that will be destroyed.

When I was a child, I was taught to respect all elders. In those days, you don't have to know an elderly person before you show your respect by greeting them. In fact its expected of you as a child.

I grew up in a city in Kogi State, Kabba. There we have these peace loving people who won't only cook for their family alone but also for their neighbors. You see them carrying a tray on their heads sharing food. Greeting in Kabba is something that I can refer to as the core of their custom. They can greet to the extent of irritation. Something like "Okun henh, okun hun, okun hehn" they continue making that sound even when they've walked far away from you.

This custom started to change when we were started to be taught not to talk to strangers. The world started changing, customs are be swept under the carpet of civilization on the quest to ensure security for we the children. The abolishment of this custom was also based on the rate at which children are been kidnapped back then.

When I moved to Lagos, I find it extremely hard to walk pass an elderly person and not greet them. I look at them wanting to open my mouth but the kind of look I get from them was like "Do you know me somewhere?" Or "Who be this?"

So far from that expectation of the elderly back then that a child greets, these elders aren't seeing greeting as an obligation of a younger person or a child.

Recently, I greeted an elderly man that I don't know from Adam, he smiled at me, answered me so well and said "My son, do you know me?" I said "No sir" and he said "You must have been taught so well" I felt so good deep inside me.

If only this custom could be brought back.

I hope you enjoyed this piece. It'll only get better.

Next, I will be writing about the difference between the values impacted in those that grew in the villages and that of those in the cities. Till then.. Peace!!!

Nwanneamakah: Doesn't her character/attitude count? undecided

A forgiving spirit, deep respect, and understanding are what i believe count. Come to think of it, I know a couple of people who got married virgins but are now divorced...and also know some people who have been straffing all their lives, but eventually got married and are still happily married till date. A happy/successful marriage is a union of two good forgivers.
WRT the best gift to give, I feel the price isn't what matters most, but, the immediate need of your spouse and the motive/spirit behind 'the giving'. A gift is best appreciated when it comes in handy
If u can't give ur husband ur virginity on ur wedding night, u re not godfearing and should never be trusted no matter what other good character she's got.

Christianity Etc › Re: The Bitter Truth About Christmas by Maximus85(op): 10:29pm On Dec 18, 2013
Macelliot: Let me answer your question.
It's as simple as Abc.
A roman god celebration usually takes place on the 25th dec. So when christianity came into existence in rome, the christians decided to wipe away the pagan celebration totally by celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on that same day.
For example
If Nigeria breaks up, the Igbo decided to celebrate their own independence on Oct 1st, because if Igbo decided to celebrate it on August 5th for example. Whenever the day Oct. 1st comes, students will be saying, "oh! We supposed to be at the stadium doing matching parade now, if not because we have broken in different minute countries."
So, that's it. Hope you understood?
Thanks!
When u want to hide something from a Nigerian, write it down.

Christianity Etc › The Bitter Truth About Christmas by Maximus85(op): 7:22pm On Dec 18, 2013
Christmas is been celebrated all over the world as the birth of Jesus Christ our lord. From a christlike view, everything and anything associated with Jesus Christ should be accurate and true. I'm sure you all will agree with me.
Now the question is:
Was Jesus Christ actually born on the 25th of December? NO.
Did the first century christians celebrated Christmas? NO,
Did Christmas has any Christian Origin? NO.
Was Christmas ever banned in England? YES

According to the World Book Encyclopedia, Early Christians "Consider the celebration of anyone's birth to be a Pagan custom"

Christmas was actually banned in England in the 17th century, in fact anybody who skip work on that day was well dealt with.

Now you may ask, why was December 25th of all other days of the year chosen as the day Jesus was born?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_deity
During the Roman Empire, a festival of the birth
of the Unconquered Sun (or Dies Natalis Solis
Invicti) was celebrated on the winter solstice—the "rebirth" of the sun—which occurred on
December 25 of the Julian calendar. In late
antiquity, the theological centrality of the sun in
some Imperial religious systems suggest a form
of a “solar monotheism.” The religious
commemorations on December 25 were replaced under Christian domination of the Empire with the birthday of Christ.[1]

Why would anyone choose to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus on the same date the Pagans worship the sun?

The two people recorded to have celebrated their birthdays in the Bible, were there Christians? NO
The first was Pharaoh, Genesis 40:20-22. He killed his Chief baker.
Was Pharaoh a worshiper of God? NO.

The second was King Herod, Mark 6:21-29. He beheaded John the Baptist. The man who baptized Jesus Christ. Was Pharaoh a worshiper of God? NO.

Those were the two mentions of birthdays in the Bible and its all disastrous.

What does Yuletide really mean?
The pagan Scandinavian and Germanic people of
northern Europe celebrated a twelve-day
"midwinter" ( winter solstice) holiday called Yule
(also called Jul, Julblot, jólablót, midvinterblot,
julofferfest) beginning on December 25.

Many
modern Christmas traditions, such as the
Christmas tree, the Christmas wreath, the Yule
log, and others, are direct descendents of Yule
customs. As Northern Europe was the last part to
become Christianized, its pagan traditions had a
major influence on Christmas. Scandinavians still
call Christmas "Jul".
In English, the word " Yule" is
synonymous with Christmas,
a usage first
recorded in 900.
It is believed that the
celebration of this day was a worship of these
peculiar days, interpreted as the reawakening of
nature.
The Yule (Jul) particular God was Jólner,
which is one of Odin's many names. The concept
of Yule (Jul) occurs in a tribute poem to Harold
Hårfager from about AD 900, where someone
said "drinking Jul". Julblot is the most solemn
sacrifice feast. At the "julblotet", sacrifices were
given to the gods to earn blessing on the
forthcoming germinating crops.
Julblotet was
eventually integrated into the Christian
Christmas. As a remainder from this Viking era,
the Midsummer is still important in Scandinavia,
and hence vividly celebrated.

Hmmmm. If I pick a candy from a pit toilet, wash it and give to you, the taste will surely remain sweet, but would you have collected it from me if you knew where I picked it from?

Christmas is celebrated by millions as the birth of Jesus Christ unknown to them they are celebrating a pagan sacrificial celebration of the pagan gods

Sadly, majority of these pastors knows these fact. But why are they silent?

delightful1: Wow! I'm wishing I am your girl already (just jokinggrin). But seriously, I like such romantic men and Yes, we really need to bring back the love letter kind of love.
Tell it to ur man in a subtle manner. It'll go into his subconscious and he'll start doing these things. #winks

I loved (still loves) writing and receiving love letters but who got the time to write me any?
Some romantic men still do. I still do. Its an old cliche that we need to bring back.

allycat: Sorry I don't do private practice. Still get get a referral either LASUTH or LUTH any doctor can write one for you. Unfortunately ENT equipment is very expensive so unless he/she isn't buying good equipment it is unlikely you will see a cheap one, that's also why the waiting list in government hospitals is soo long.
Lasuth doctors said unless its a severe case, they are not allowed to refer to the ENT.

But since you know about this issue, you talked about nose decongestion. My left nostril has not been cleared ever since this stuff started.
Can I get the Otrivin in any pharmacy?

allycat: There are private ENT clinics one in Ilupeju ,20 Ilaaka street off Coker street Another at 19 Yinusa Adeniji st off Muslim avenue off unity road ikeja. They are not cheap though. Unfortunately unless it's a life and death situation you will be given an appointment if you go to any general hospital.
What you describe sounds like your Eustachian tube , a tube that connects the ear to the back of the nose, is not functioning well so fluid is accumulating in the middle ear. So treatment will be geared at decongesting the nose. Nose drops like Otrivin 2 drops 3 times a day for 5 Days maximum. Nasal decongestants like procold one a night for the same 5 days and then an excercise to allow air into the middle ears and displace the fluid. Hold the nose and close the mouth and then blow your nose for like 3 seconds. You should feel the ear pop. Do this like 10 repetitions 3 x a day.. I didn't examine you so I can't prescribe more. Do this for a week and see an ENT if you still have problems.
Thanks for your input, the private ENT is soo expensive, I can't afford it. I went to the general hospital ikeja and they say unless its severe they don't use the ENT. I wish U could examine me. Where's your location, I'll come look for you. The Ent specialist I saw around olowu at ikeja is demanding 10k for Reg and Consultancy.

Please help me.

I could remember when sending an Sms is N15, it came down to N10, N7, N5, and now N4.

I'm sure all those major telecommunication companies go dey swear give BBM, Wechat, Nimbuzz, Whatsapp, even small 2go for this.

I feel the law of gravity is also effective on the market prices. When MTN sim is still been sold for N14,000 a friend of mine jokingly said, he won't buy one until they are selling it for "Gbanjo" in Iyana Ipaja or Oshodi. I was coming home from work one evening and I saw sim cards on the floor in Iyana Ipaja going for N100 and I remembered his words.

On a serious note now, we don't send sms anymore. But my Fiancee sent me an sms on a certain Saturday and it felt soooo good, as in we just finished our bedtime chat on BBM and Wazzzza, the text Message came in. I called her back and reassured her of my Love for her.

Things changes, we left our handwritten love letters when SMS came, now we've left our SMS' for the Chatting Apps, Soon, we are gonna leave these chat apps for something else, something new. But you can make use of the old ways to surprise your loved ones. Imagine dropping a love letter inside your lady's bag..... Its a wonderful thing.

I hope this write up make sense to you guys. It just came to my head and I just felt like sharing it with you all.

Gracias muchos Amigos!!!

Apply enough on the cotton, it'll slide inside on its own, you'd feel it. Make sure its Real honey.

achidisucre: I've de same illness too. Mine started when I had cough. My ear got blocked, i cant hear very well, when i use cotton buds, i scoop out dark coloured earwax. I met a chemist who gave me hydrogen peroxide which I applied to scoop out the earwax. This has lasted up to 7 weeks. Now, I still hear humming noise in my ear. Pls any advice ll be appreciated.
No fluids? Just get an Original honey, apply in a cotton wool and put into your two ears. (Even if the other ear is not affected)

I'll be going to look for ENT specialists in Ikeja soon. I've been to the general hospital at Ikeja and the Doctor used an ortoscope to examine my ears, he said its completely healed with no damage to my ear drums. He said I should block my ears with cotton wool when bathing.

The fluid trapped inside is giving so much discomfort so I'm making my move to see an ENT.
