Is there anyone here that got admitted to a university for masters with 2.2 ?
A number of people get admotted with a 2:2.....it is very hard however, as canada sees more students coming in, it does become more competitive. apply for a PGD as a bck up while you chase the masters.

God's Grace

Can someone who is paying less than $5k as school fee per term be able to offset his/her school fee and living expenses with part-time job?
5k per term...a term is 4 months....which means to make your school fees back, you need to make $1250 a month....which is 312.5 per week and with a maximum of 20 hours a week (some say 24, but ill rather play it safe) you need a $16 per hour job.......just to offset school fees
rent, phone, food, health insurance, things like books

i wouldn't say its IMPOSSIBLE....but at bare minimum have your school fees to make things easier on yourself and body

Nigerian students in Canada please don't forget us when you get to Canada... Lots of questions have been asked here but very little response.
Hello Bukella, Honestly i am guilty of this as Canada (Toronto) is not what many made me think it is. I am a seneca student doing my secong PGD program. I came in January 2018 and Toronto has its ups and downs....but i thing you should prepare for is the cost

Do not come here thinking your part-time job (if you find one) can offset your school fees and living costs. on average rent here is about $800...with the lowest ive heard of being $500.

My school is good, but i promise you, the amount of work required (its not hard, its just plenty research and work).....and please...do not even think of plagiarism ( more on that later)

Ive promised to come online at least once weekly to help those that need information, because information is the most important thing here (well, after networking). Please try to ask any particular questions you may have

on here btw, i hardly respond to emails

I'm back people with yet another of my recent experience with career advancement in Canada. So you guys remember me telling you all how I got two jobs and was spoilt for choice over which to pick. Well to refresh those that may have forgotten I chose the big firm (even though the position was temporary and entry level hourly operator while the other was permanent ,full time but for a smaller firm) because I believed it had better prospects for career growth.

Well I took my humble pie and resumed for the hourly operator job on 2nd January and we were all placed on a 3day orientation and training program. It went on like that up until Thurs when something dramatic happened. After we have been dispersed to head to our various departments, as I was waiting in the lobby with my other colleagues for our department rep, I was approached by the operations manager who asked if I could spare him 5mins of my time. I obliged and he took me to a meeting room and we were immediately joined by another manager. I sensed I was going to be interviewed again, so I quickly psyched myself. The operations manager started by telling me he needed a new group manager in his department as one of his guys just got promoted and moved to another location and he feels I can fill that position. The next 30-45mins was a grilling but yet refreshing interview where I was mainly asked competency based questions that required I relate my answers very well to my past experiences (which all came from Nigeria).

Afterwards I left the interview feeling like what just happened and went back to join the rest of my hourly operator crew only for the heads upstairs to send for me again after like 30mins. When I came up this time, the operations manager was there to receive me and then he told me there is someone he will like me to meet. This time it was the overall Plant manager who is the top boss in the Edmonton plant. I almost froze to the floor but then as omo naija my head quickly correct grin. After a firm handshake with the Plant manager I was taken to a larger conference room just me and him. Then he started interviewing me again. As usual I kept relating my answers to past work experiences from Nigeria. In the end he thanked me and encouraged me to keep developing myself especially in the new job I was being offered as they strictly apply meritocracy in career advancement in d organization.

I closed from work that still perplexed at how fast my fortunes are about to change. I got home and was still narrating the whole ordeal to my wife when I got a call from the operations manager that I have got the job and if I'm willing to accept the offer. I answered in the affirmative. Then he asked me to come into the plant the next day(we were billed to attend a safety training off-site as the hourly operators) as I need to sign a new offer letter and start immediately on the new management position I was offered.

So people that was how I started the year/week as a floor staff but ended the week as a first-line manager. The purpose of my sharing this story is not to in any way pride in my efforts because I owe everything I am to God but to encourage someone/anyone who can dare to believe in the impossible. Yes miracles still do happen. It's not by he that runneth but on the Lord that showeth mercy. Be courageous my fellow naija Canadians. Go out there and claim what's yours!

Peace.
FAVOUR!!!!!. Congrats Sir, so delighted about this.

Hello All....Please i'll appreciate your guidance.

I'm a 23 year old student at seneca college, ive worked for a big 4 accounting firm for over a year in lagos, and a smaller accounting firm for 6 months. i have a Bsc in economics from unilag but i'm yet to write my IELTS

1. after going throught this thread, ive seen it makes more sense to apply for express entry through the skilled class, and i can even go for my masters as a PR.
2 the only thing left for me would be to take the IELTS, get 12500 in my account(my dad would help with this), and evaluate through WES.

My issue is How do i start, i'll love to take action, but not sure how to...please your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

My People, How Una dey.

On the 1st of January 2018, 10:55 Pm i left Lagos to Toronto via Amsterdam.....This is my story.

After getting my visa, flights plans started. i'm a frequent flyer with virgin and emirates, but those two airlines have decided to be goats and not fly to Pearson International in Toronto, so after reading comments about Ethopian, Egypt, air maroc e.t.c....i realised they were all nice airlines to fly with HOWEVER. when an issues arises, as with a number of international flights, their lack in class and professionalism shows, so i decided to use a tier 1 airline. I was left with one of Delta, Airfrance-KLM, Turkish Airlines, British Airways and Arik grin cheesy. After a lot of research and analysis, i decided to use Airfrance-Klm due to the fact that they had a partnership with Delta, Delta had with Virgin so it made more sense when i needed to transfer Miles and all that ....ooh and it was the cheapest too.

Jan 1 was the cheapest day in the first 2 weeks of the New Year, so i decided to go with that, since i wanted to spent the new year with my family and the flight was at night. Perfect.

I got to the Lagos airport at 7pm, after all the harassment of "do something for boys" i got to the gate safely. We boarded quite early (9pm) and 10 50 Pm the plane took off. It was a beautiful flight. No crying children, i got an extra leg-room seat, the food was yummy, the pilots landing was one of the best i had felt. Got into Amsterdam 30 Mins early and i had this long wait of 8 hours for my flight to toronto. i decided to book one that was far away, just in case my departure from lagos was delayed or whatever.

The 8 hours went by so fast from visiting the museum in the airport, watching a few planes land and take-off, watching a couple of LGBT couples and imagining what my parents would say, Getting a new hand luggage since my current ones got bad while pulling (so painful as i had to waste money on something not planned for), and talking with friends and family through whatsapp call. When it was time to board, i was "shook" KLM gave Nigerians a very new and beautiful plane with an awesome cabin crew, and this plane was so old i was surprised it could still take off. Though the staff made it worthwhile and fun to fly....and the food..oh my!....AWESOME! (If you are a food lover, Please fly Airfrance-KLM...NO JOKES) Ice cream, wafles, rice and beans with chicken, cinammon rolls.= and so much more, really great....oh if youre wondering, Yes it was economy.

Landed in toronto, the queue wasn't long. My timbalands decided the cold was too much and gave up, luckily i had a spare pair of shoes in my hand luggage (Pls try to keep a spare change of clothing and shoes in your hand luggage, in case your box is missing and other emergencies). i got to the officer. he was so nice, he saw a Manutd bracelet on my hand and we spoke for a while about Lukaku being useless LOL. he asked if i had dairy or whatever, i said No, he said good and directed me to get my study permit. That lady wasnt fun at all!...she didnt even laugh at any joke i made, i sha took my study permit, then was directed to get my SIN. The lady there was a fun, kind woman. i spent like 20 mins just talking about how lovely Nigeria was, what my Yoruba name meant, about my family, she spoke about her family too and after leaving her o whispered to myself "welcome home".

Due to the time spent already getting my luggage was a breeze, i got outside, my school driver was waiting to pick me, and off i went.

i got to the school residence, they werent expecting me to the 4th due to a mis understanding in the emails exchanged (very sad!!...Please ensure your arrival plans are water-tight!!!) had to spend over $150 for a night in a hotel close-by, Next morning took an uber to a friends house where ill be spending two nights (on second thoughts, should have just come here directly after arrival....for those who love their space like me and hate to make others uncomfortable, swallow your pride, go spend a couple nights with someone you know if you know someone...its better to find your feet with the help of a local) got my sim(FIDO) got a bank account (TD)..going to open another with Scotia bank( THEY GIVE FREE MOVIES!!! LOL) and i'm just enjoying the food and the scenery

As for the cold, if you've been to Newyork and the likes....its basically the same, Its a bit over-rated...however someone said the weather has been great and it was worse a few days back, so, i'm still thankful....HOWEVER!!!...Temperature is different from WIND!....Its like Sahara desert Wind in sub zero temperatures.....so please don't buy scarfs and gloves in Nigeria or Europe. they have scarfs and gloves here suited for their weather which makes it pleasurable to go out, because if you buy sub standard "wind protectors" one of two things will happen...youll throw that away and buy another here which is more expensive or going out becomes a punishment.

Good afternoon NLers, please I need urgent advise on this particular issue. I have interest in studying in Canada but my setback is the sponsorship aspect of the application.

This Christmas, I was privileged to meet with a distant relative though we are different tribes. After much discussion, he agreed to be my sponsor alongside my husband. He is a director in a FG agency, has a huge business conglomerate and his family is based in USA. Will he be a good choice since we are different tribes? And how can I convince the VO about the authenticity of my claim?

Ps it's urgent I need to give him a feedback ASAP.
I don't understand why a relative of yours being from a different tribe is an issue....we just like to complicate matters...so what if you have a relative who's from another country nko. Also please learn to properly phrase your question "though we are (from) different tribes" leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

salford1 is right, the bicycle as a primary use of transport in Canada is only possible in dreams smiley And now that winter is here where even car driving takes skill, bicycles have all gone into storage and it's not an exaggeration. It's just not feasible so rathe,r budget up to $4,000.00 for a decent used car to get you around depending on your taste. But beware of cars that are dirt cheap to avoid buying a lemon, you want to own/use the car and not the other way around. After landing for me, it was buses, taxis and trains until my wife got her job then I opened my tight hands and got a car tongue I just wanted to hold on to our POF until Canadian income was coming in to avoid using money for family living to maintain a car, pay insurance, etc. It helped that we landed in summer and that my kids loved the buses here since they had never used public transport/taxis back in Nigeria. I remember the first time I took them on keke Napep in my Gbagada neighborhood for the experience, it was like Disney World to them! cheesy
Anyway, once you're used to Google Maps as a means to plan your movements and get a travel card like Ontario's Presto, you will do okay. The key is to plan your trips out, note the route and the wether you will need buses/trains (I recommend using them just to help you learn to get around your city) and always set out early. If you have young kids, then taxis will do the trick for you for family outings.

Though i'll appreciate if you start a blog....you tend to be very factual, but it may come across as too blunt for many.

Even your president is not guaranteed good quality of life here otherwise he wouldn't be doing ordinary "routine check-ups" (not surgery o) in London with taxpayers' money. His children also school abroad, likewise that of the Senate President. Our first lady had to go search for a private hospital just to have an x-ray; thank God it wasn't an emergency.
The funniest part of that your post talked about treating borehole water "to your taste". U be chemist? Water that should be tasteless and odourless?
Talking of serviced apartments on the Island, no be bad and flooded roads person go drive pass? What we even call enjoyment here sef is very questionable.

No one should be separated from his or her spouse or family because of career, money or business. In the end what is the most important thing in life? I cannot stay without my wife for 3 to 6months. Long distance gives room for a lot of things. Most importantly the children need the fatherly or motherly care.

Not everyone, will tell you what they are going through not having their husbands with them abroad. I know a lot of men living in Nigeria with their wives abroad, they have bed warmers here in Nigeria, attending occasions and events with them and even living with them in the same house. It also possible there are some saints out there, it all depends on personality and choice.

Maternal has said it all.

Bro, if it is 200k/mth that you are really earning in here in naija, please don't even bother, just pack your luggage and move immediately to Canny soon as you get your CoPR....I was waiting to read 1million naira/month from you grin...and even at that, guys that I know that are within 1million/month salary region are not even thinking it twice. In Lagos, living within decent standards, 900k-1million/month is just barely covering the mammoth list of expenses and family responsibilities that you have to contend with, so much that these my guys with that type of inflows are still complaining like small boys like us. grin grin

@Beube, how many kids do you have and what is your NOC and job experience area? Drop these info and I can say some things more...however, my bro, on expense for expense, quality of life for quality of life (including the kids' future), suffering for suffering...generally speaking, I guarantee you, you will be better of on the long run in Canada, If you can weather that 1st 10months to 1 year, then you are in! (None of my friends that have left returned out of not being able to survive, that says something. grin grin)

On the job issue, trust your God and your abilities...don't expect an immediate miracle (it may happen though), plan for 10-12 months of "no job" period in Canada...fill this time with a strategically lined up activities to engage yourself in, which should be directed at your getting a job before the expiration of that waiting period.

Go to Canada with savings ready for the first 10 months for rent, feeding and other basic utilities for your family.

Regarding the bolded above, I laugh.... grin grin grin. Nigerians and "projects" and this really got me thinking....Hmmmm

Let me ask you a question, what makes us do the things we do in this part of the world?- our type of society!

Most of us grew to know that the system does not have a social buffer/fall back for us...nothing! So when God finally answer our prayers and we get a job, we start the rat race....acquire, acquire, acquire...lands, start building, build more, buy more lands, never having a life of relaxation and enjoyment at any point in time, no specially planned family vacation, not really doing what we love to do at any point in time...some even console themselves that they are doing the several projects so that their children will not suffer...all these are understandable because of the peculiarities of our society...

Whenever I talk with friends on this Canny hustle, I always advice.. whenever you cross over to Canada, "Try to question your Nigerian Acquired Value systems...what makes you do what you have always known to be what to do? Is it right?, Is it fueled by fear of the unknown? or that wanton Blackman's egoistic gratifications? Why do we chase after so much material acquisitions and millions here? Will all these Nigerian Acquired Valuesystem be necessary where the system (Canny) is working and has your back in the event of a worse case scenario?

Take the opportunity of this relocation and a re-starting of life, to re-choose our life preferences, query what drives us--to amass the millions, wanting to oppress and show off or what? Rebuild your valuesystem in line with sane society best practices, volunteer your time in a cause you are passionate about, help people consciously (go out of your way to exhibit those fine behaviors and integrity known with most oyinbos, consciously do these to make them become part of you because from home, it is not naturally in our DNA to do these)...our kids will generally be on a good path civility-wise by virtue of that environment but we also have a duty to guide them properly with the good parts of our African traditional values (not everything from our society is bad, our culture is rich and imbibing it is beautiful! cheesy)

(WHEN you reevaluate your life drive and restructure it appropriately according to sanity of a developed society, one thing is certain, you will be calm, contented and fulfilled. Trust me, whenever you come visiting Nigeria in the next 5 years, you will look at colleagues that you left behind and be sad, not because you are richer than them (in fact they may even be monetarily richer than you), you will be sad because all you are seeing are old friends still chasing the "rat" in the same race, not having really realized the taste of contentment and a fulfilled life all the years you were away!

I even told some that if I decide to go to work on my bicycle in Naija, some that don't know me will say "Ehyah, poverty has really dealt this man a big blow, God will help him soon grin" Those that know me will say "He is so stingy to even himself, we know he can buy a jeep and look at him, he is using bicycle to the office" grin

But if I critically take look at my need in Canada and decide to go to my office some blocks away on my bicycle, I'm sure nobody will give a hoot, even if I am a manager there and the office tea girl is driving a Range Rover to the office everyday...that is valuesystem modifications! grin

God bless us all!

It will all end in praise IJN
Agree, with most of what you said apart from the bolded portion. This depends largely on your environment and people around you. In lekki and ikoyi, i know many people who walk or ride a bicycle to work and to be honest, i had never even thought about that till i read this statement.

Also, you will be shocked at the number of people who have american/british passports and work in Nigeria....it is the complete opposite...you could easily fall in the rat race over there than in Nigeria. This is one place where your life can literally change overnight.

Don't get me wrong...i get your point....but all this is largely subjective based on various individuals and their financial intelligence, basically understanding simple financial basics e.g a house is not an asset, unless its being rented out.

so lets just stop making general comments here, i know a manager in RBC canada, who was at the time a boss of a current E.D of a tier 1 Nigerian bank....but as long as he's happy about his decision (which he is)...thats what matters...nobody but God knows whatll have happened if he stayed, be be as awesome as an M.D, or as bad as pre-mature death. This is why when people here assume a marriage will dissolve because of distance because that is the Norm.....its exactly what it is, an assumption.....NOTHING DOES NOT HAVE TO GIVE

Good afternoon house,

I applied for an undergraduate program in university of Winnipeg for my brother that just finished secondary school. Thankfully, he received his admission letter after 2 weeks. The tuition fee per year is stated as 8,650 Canadian dollar but he is not required to pay till he registers in Canada. He was given an option to pay 1000 tuition deposit. However, in case he doesn't study in the school, the deposit is not refundable.
What is his chances of applying for study permit without paying d deposit. cos am not in support of paying for the deposit and the application is refused, then we lose a whopping 1000 Canadian dollar.
Thanks for the help
Ask for clarification, does it mean if he decides t change school in canada....or if visa is denied and plans change for example

You can choose to write your ielts in Canada. And my advice is don't start EE until you're halfway or almost done with your studies. Reason is you'll get more points/scores for Canadian study. Your application will be processed faster amongst other things. But you're on the right track. And yes, your 1 year experience is good when you are ready to use it.
Thank you Canadian Fly. Very sound advice indeed

Hello All,

I just need your advise on a matter. Ill be going to canada for studies first week in january (my course is for 8 months only). However, i'm thinking is it wise to commence express entry now, i have 1 year 11 months working experience with a small consulting firm, and one of the Big 4.

Should i also go ahead and write IELTS now, to just have it now and probably not need it that to need it and not have it (hope you get my drift).

Lastly, if you were in my shoes, what will you advise.

*i'm still on page 9, have over 400 pages to cover #phew. Hope i also get more insight while reading.
