If the truth denotes the existence of a God, then yes.. although it would be less of theism.. since theism is the belief in a god or gods..

If knowing the truth denotes the existence of a god/gods.. then it simply becomes knowledge of a god/gods.
Truth lead to the existence of a deity?
And that deity probably comes from Abramaic gods in the middle east, cliche

An atheist is someone who rejects a belief in a god or gods... Is there a problem with being one?
God from Theos same meaning with Deus.
THEOlogy grin
Monolatry is the belief in the existence of many gods, but with the consistent worship of only one deity.

So knowing the truth can lead someone to be theist?

Wilgrea7:
Yes... The truth can lead someone away from their religion... But the truth doesn't have to be another religion.

Saying the truth can never lead someone to atheism assumes you know what the truth MUST be
So knowing the truth will lead you to be a monolatrist or pagan?
Hope you know the origin of the word “athiest “

I apologize.. but you seem to be derailing this thread.. it isn't about etymologies. It's about questioning beliefs..

If you'd like to discuss the histories of these gods, you can open up another thread and I'll be happy to join you there... But for now let's keep this one on topic.

Thanks
Beliefs comes from Doxa, and it means opinions.
You need to know the origin of the words you are using, even where religion comes from religare.
Most of mainstream religion comes from Abramaic gods, think

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

I apologize, but I'll need to end this discussion here.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the questioning of beliefs, not to prove etymologies or whether or not Yahwism is more than a belief system or not
You don’t know what etymologies are, they talk about the origin and history of the word.
What have you read prior on Semitic gods?
Do you understand this chart?

Christianity Etc › Re: It's OK To Question Your Beliefs by Maynman:
Wilgrea7:
You're clearly missing my point. I think you misunderstood what I meant by "questioning your belief".

For example, the Yahwists believed in the gods Yahweh, and the other ones of the Pantheon known as Elohim. Now Imagine if someone were to ask the question "what proof do I have for the existence of this Pantheon, and how verifiable are the claims made about them?" That's what I mean by questioning the beliefs. It has nothing to do with Etymology of names
Read again, they are referred to as “yahwist” by scholars. The origin and history is explained there why not read it, it’s not a BELIEF SYSTEM,
Read slowly. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahwism
The origin of the word trace back to Semitic tribe.
I thought you said you have read on it?
These are too basic questions.
The “yahwists” believed, lol you think they are like other Christians and Muslims, that just explains all I need to know about you.

Sir... I'm not talking about the origins of the words. I'm taking about what the followers of these systems believed.

I initially said it was ok for people to question their beliefs. I didn't say anything specific about the origin. I meant questioning what their beliefs are. If they trace their beliefs back to Judaism and Yahwism, doesn't that also mean these other beliefs should be questioned as well?

That's my point. I'm not trying to make a point on the meaning or etymology of the names used here.
I doubt you’ve read anything on Judaism and yahwism.

I apologize, but now I'm confused. I understand the etymology of the word. That isn't the point I'm trying to present.

You said religions like Christianity can be traced back to Judaism which can further be traced back to Yahwism. And Yahwism believed in the existence of gods and pantheons like elohim. I understand the etymology of the word and what it means.

What I'm saying is, the notions or beliefs people held about this said Elohim, El, and the other gods that they believed existed at the time, Do you agree that these notions are subject to questioning, or are they an absolute truth?
But you claim you have read on Judaism and Yahwism, do you know the origin of the word “Judaism” and “yahwism”
What exactly have you read on it then?

I think maybe we misunderstand each other. Do you agree these older religions/belief systems (Yahwism in this case) is simply a belief, or do you classify them as objective knowledge?

For example, the existence of El and the Elohim, which was part of the belief system back then. Do you take it as objective knowledge, or as just a belief which is also subject to scrutiny?
The origin of the word aligns with it, yahwism goes beyond belief system.
Are you sure you have read anything on this?

This is a complete miss.

The god el you describe would be "Enlil" his consort is "Ninlil" not asherah. One of their 70 sons is yaweh and his consort is Asherah. The creator God in the Ugaritic text is Marduk. He is the universe itself. He is the lugal dimmer ankia which means divine king of heaven and earth...

El is different form enlil.

Yes I've read on both of them. Mythology literally means a collection of myths and beliefs.

I agree that these beliefs predate the current ones we have today, but tracing the root back to them (which I encourage), still involves questioning the older ones as well. Don't you agree?
Tracing the roots back to them takes you to the same place. Belief is from Doxa contrast to episteme.
I doubt you’ve read ANYTHING on them, it’s glaring.

And you chose Israelites God/gods, why from the Middle East though?

You have disappointed in making so much of it on this thread

According to the gospel of Maynman, it might

Might not for you, but for those in the know, it does

Exodus 4:14-16
'14Then the anger of the LORD was kindled and burned against Moses; He said,
“Is there not your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently.
Also, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be overjoyed.
15You must speak to him and put the words in his mouth;
I, even I, will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do.
16Moreover, he shall speak for you to the people; he will act as a mouthpiece for you,
and you will be as God to him [telling him what I say to you].
'

Exodus 7:1
'Then the LORD said to Moses, “Now hear this:
I make you as God to Pharaoh [to declare My will and purpose to him]; and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.
'

Only a shameless ignoranus will badly type like you so far have been doing here.

Do you at all know the differences between Yahweh and Sango? You dont come across as that smart enough to.
Look at Exodus 4:14-16 and Exodus 7:1 above to receive sense per the distinctions between God/god and Deity/deity

I suppose you're itching to tell

Yes I understand it's a title. But in the general sense what someone claims they believe in a god, it goes much farther than the title. It usually includes things like the nature of said God, what He/She/it wants, how it acts, why and how to worship it, and so on. That's what I meant by the concept.
When they say they believe in a god, you just ask them the name of the god, god is a title not a person.

They both go beyond “belief system”.

problems with your assertion

a. Sin is transgression of God's Law and unbelievers are born dead to God's Law meaning they cannot transgress the Law hence cannot sin against God's Law. undecided

b. Second, your claim that the physical is controlled by the spirit yet the physical is able to reject control by the spirit makes no sense. undecided
Is the physical controlled by the spirit or is the physical instead able to allow itself be controlled by spirit, which is it? undecided

As for the dead, well, Gentiles are born dead to God's Laws. It is only when we chose to believe in God that we are made alive AK born-again under His Law.. undecided

I think I get your point. But Judaism and Yahwism are also belief systems. People from these faiths can only tell you what they believe, which can be nice, but doesn't really help much is someone is looking for objective knowledge, rather than an alternative belief system.

"if it’s programmed into it."

And then you forget that Choice always means voluntary decision to do or not do a thing.

Therefore, a robot may be programmed to come to nairaland to open threads, like a car must start because the key is turned in the ignition and all things in it battery, engine, fuel pump etc) work properly.

BUT CHOICE MEANS THAT A CAR WILL CHOOSE WHETHER IT WOULD START WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY OR IT WOULD IGNORE YOU AND NOT START WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY EVEN WHEN EVERYTHING IN IT WORKS.

THAT IS THE CAR EXERCISING ITS POWER OF CHOICE.
A robot is programmed, a robot has voluntary actions?

Now watch this, the two words, god and deity don't necessarily on face value, have the same meaning, because whatever influences you, isnt necessarily a deity and vice versa.
