We have water now for the build........
|
Further updates on blocks achieved from a numbered bags of cements, trips of sands, water, and labour costs including parking of dried cements, damages, and time would be presented. Observing the above may help to further appreciate in favour of or against the cost of self moulding of blocks for housing project. Keep an eye out for that..............................including the total cost on the project so far.

The 8feet aluminium pan inserted into the borehole to bridge the deep sandy cavity of the borehole to avoid sand collapse and blockages. I was told that we require some shipping to be scattered down the borehole to avoid rustling sandy water entering the pump. But the workmen confirmed that it was unnecessary because the sandy soil they met down the borehole were stable.

The borehole project is now completed, the borehole diggers have found a clear water at a depth of 90feet. Quite below what we were meant to envisage. The waterpump and aluminium pan have been inserted, the pipes totalling 7 lenghts out of 9 purchased have been inserted and the water is now flowing freely from the borehole to the tanks. That's great, innit? The borehole project was achieved on a total cost of N332K covering the following items; Workmanship - N210,000 Mechanical whyner - N22,000 Blower fan/cable/rope - N20,000 Pump 1HP- N40,000 Aluminium pan - N23,000 Clamp/cables/rope - N5,000 Transport - N2,000 Welfare - N10,000 Total cost - N332,000 This includes a N10k welfare to a friend that helped to buy the pumps and later listed items. I want to believe that the real cost could have been considerably lower if I had interrogated the cost of earlier listed items ie the whyner and blower. This view was formed from the result of my intervention on the workmen qoute of N138,000 for the later items. When my cousin informed me of the cost which includes quotes of N75k and N35k for pump and aluminium pan respectively, I decided to ask around for the real cost of the pump. I got in-contact with Prof. Spyder who hinted me that the cost of pump should be b/w N35-40k, I smelled that something is unsual about the workmen quotes. At that point I contacted a friend at Onitsha who after verification informed me that N70k would cover the cost of the items (pump, pan, clamp, cable, rope, and transport). Viola! I collect his bank account, wired N80k to him in minutes and told my cousin and workmen to wait for the items to be delivered. They got the items, confirmed the authenticity, and N58k saved including a renewed contact with old friend. A saving of N58k was OK for me to ignore further queries on other borehole related costs afterall you can't win always, and besides the final cost of N332k was a good value to me and within my targeted N400k for the borehole project even including the costs of cements that were used for the internal plastering of the well. Here are some pictures

In politics, attracting programs and investments to ones constituency or state as a senator or governor respectively is about your political clout, who you know (your political acquaintances and groupings), and your ability to form alliances within the corridors of power and get things done. APGA as a party is irrelevant in this dispensation purely due to naked and raw ambition of Umeh to be the Chairman, the Godfather, and the Governor. None ever worked because even as Chairman he has no command of the party machinery, hence APGA got divided in two, some progressives and political visionaries joined APC, while Umeh and others stayed back. As a result Anambra State became insignificant in the APC government especially with a new man (politically) as governor, they are highly in a disadvantaged position to attract any programs or investments for the state from the center. Only the political naive will assume that Umeh has the political pedigree of former Governor Peter Obi. If people of Anambra Central wants a fruitful representation at the Senate, Peter Obi is a preferred candidate to support, and if their would be fair election at Anambra Central, Obi will trounce Umeh. |
EgunMogaji:Welcome Naija. The sun no be moi moi. It has this potential to discomfort fresh entrants. But don't worry, you will overcome it bruv! If you think it's getting out hand just reconfirm your ticket quick. Quick recovery though. |

spyder880:Thanks a lot Prof. for shipping in that valuable advise. I will ask them to keep the rods off the ground immediately. What would you say about the quantity guestimated to complete the project? |
EgunMogaji:Abi 1976 as e don tell us the Eta Bassey '93 soujourn. LondonCool:Abeg wetin happen for 1976 and EgunMogaji wan know wetin happen for 1945 too. Chineke! Abasi tuomumbo! |
Well done LondonCool, God will continue to give you the strength to keep putting-in the shift past successfull completion of this project. I have to keep an eye on your strategies for I have observed that your installment by stage purchase and building pattern are very similar to the road I'm travelling for my project. Surely 1993 event will never repeat itself. Not with bunch of experienced guys out here readily willing to advice when given the opportunity. Welldone bruv! |
LondonCool:Thanks Boss |
I wonder how long would this iron rods be on ground before it becomes unusable. Or does it ever become unsuable for lying on the ground for so long. It has been in that position for about a month less the long with the supplier. Any better storage methods. I intend buying them in bits untill they are complete. And for the 5bedroom duplex I have been told that 120-Y16 400-Y12 & 300-Y10 will go a long way and I am working at getting those on ground b4 commencing the project. Ant suggestions as storage, quantity estimated, etc please help

More view of the space for the building |
I forgot to mention that even though the borehole is near completion, that the initial group that I bargained with and who commenced the job were not the group completing the job. After collecting N10,000 the second day after resuming the job, they left and didnt turn up again. They initially requested that I give them N70,000 out of the N200,000 we agreed in that second day, but I told my cousin not to release more than N10K untill the get to a reasonable depth. Again I instructed that before any money should be release to them that I must see the bore hole in picture and the estimated depth gone. I reckon that if I had released the 70k the boys could have vanished leaving me teary and dry. Oloshi! The current group are not Calabar's but Hausa men from Jos. They are hardworking didnt demand a dime of the agreed N210,000 untill recently when they demanded N20K to stock their food stuff. Good guys, yet unaware that I would be compensating them beyond the N210K agreed. I'm just happy that they tackled the job with all humility and sense of purpose and now found water at last. I have to thank some nairalander's who encouraged me to consider permanent source of water for the site. That advice seems to have worked out at last and without breaking bank. Thanks guys. Please whenever I say guys, I mean both men and women. Before you turn me to Djokovic. |
And without the borehole we may have to access our water for domestic shores from the stream below, which I must confess has served for generations as the major source of drinking water for my town. Indeed many would still prefer the stream as source of drinking water but even though I grew up with this stream as one of the sources both during rainy and dry season, I doubt if my current immunity can withstand its impurities. Not with minimal level of stomach microflorva the result of living in germs obsessed environment. Well welcome to the golden stream known to have NEVER gone dry at least in the last 100years. If this stream was to exist in the UK, it could have been designated a special stream with a tag 'Heritage Site' please keep off. Then momuments of nature tourist will be flocking their for site seeing and photographs. But no, the stream is in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State in South Eastern Nigeria where I doubt the local council ever knew it exist, talkless of its significance. Nigeria I hail thee.

I have been informed this evening that they have reached water table of the borehole at about 100feet, how they measure that is beyond my knowledge. They are demanding N65-75K for the Sumo. Any ideas about the price and reliable brand to buy please share. He is the borehole at infancy and near maturity.

It was hectic getting a local man to acquaint self with the use and basic technical features of smartphone. But it has to be done and with help from other more streetwise locals my cousin was able to get around using one especially pictures, whatsapp and its call feature. Here are some of the pics from the site showing blocks already on ground

abdulwastecx:Yeah, at the moment they are doing 40-45 6" blocks per bag of cement. Why do I need to increase their money Abdul when the bag of cement remains the same? Meanwhile thank you for your details explanations interpretation of 31-Y1205-200 c/c B and 23-y1206-200 c/c T. |
Uberness:True talk @Uberness, nothing ventured nothing gained. One of the slogans advertising Euro Million lottery is "You need to be in it to win it". Being in it simply means clearly risking loss of hard earned money by staking. Unfortunately that's the only action to have any chance of winning. It's often worth it to brave up and take the first steps because at the end you either realize your objective or improve your learning curve. Thanks for the thought. |
bigjay01:Which post? Shed more lights please, perhaps our reasoning are the same |
Prof. Good day! please do expect movement from us anyhow tmoro as per discussion. More grease to your elbows. |
erico2k2:OK I want to believe that this is definitely more than three tipper trips, It looks like 3 trips and at N28k its very close to N8,500 we buy per trip. The sand is clean. Welldone Eric. Any idea of current price of rods Y16,12,10,and 8? erico2k2:Your block will be concrete solid at this rate. I did 9" hole at 30-35/bag |
spyder880:Thanks a million, Prof. You are a real gentleman. Sorry I couldn't call back again last evening, I became tied up in a meeting and by the time we finished it was already late to call. Will surely call later today as I arrange to do the needful on my Special Reserve of Plot 78 as the rest were reserved on behalf of my friends here who I intimated of the viability of the project and requested I reserve the plots for them. It will surely be a dream to have good friends living all close together on retirement in an expected quiet part of rural Coal City. Oh! Lord please make this our dream a reality. |
ifyalways:Nnukwu Ada Igbo nine, ekenekwaa mugi. Anam anu onugi site na mbido, inaeti, inaaba, ibu noo nnukwu ada eji eme onu. Daalu nwanne m. Ya gazie. Akpa cement ili adigo down for you. Daalukwa ozo. |
Prof. I hope you have reserved Plot 78. Please do also reserve Plots 73, 74, 75, 75, and 77. That will make it 6 plots all together (i.e. Plots 73-78). Payments are being arranged. Thanks for your service. |
spyder880:Prof. Spyder. I'm a late comer but very interested. Please RESERVE Plot No. 78 (549 Sqm) for me. Let me know how to proceed henceforth. Thanks for your services. Mayor78 |
EgunMogaji:You can fit in a lot with such luggage allowance, and I trust that you are already packed and ready to go. Since you have that much luggage allowance and nothing else much to carry other than building materials, you will surely be good to go with some of those tiny tiny stuffs as sensor, switches, even door knobs etc as you have the advantage of picking them u easily without having to junket from merchants to merchants. It saves time to have them here if you can. Yeah its true you are more sure of what you get due high quality control standards in the west than you would ordinarily get in Naij. Yeah, it makes sense for sure buying here all things being equal. God will see us through. |
EgunMogaji:It makes sense, you can hand-carry those stuffs as they are tiny items. You would be amazed the quality and stuffs you can access in Naij. The market may not be structured by there are surely quality goods and loads of them for that matter if you search well or get a good help. Good to buy at home bruv! |
Ilaje44:I just bought the 600mins for 15euro for a trial. It sounds cheap if the call quality is good. Thanks for the direction, that's the spirit here. Keep it up. |
princejones:Thanks Prince, struggling to follow una leads as your encouragements kept me alert. Thanks my Prince |
