Career / Benue Workers End Two-week Strike Action by mayorkun(m): 9:09am On Oct 11, 2017
Benue State workers have suspended their two-week-old strike embarked upon to protest the failure of the government to pay their salaries.

The labour unions, in a communiqué read on Tuesday night in Makurdi by its National Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Peter Ozo-Eson, directed workers in the state to resume work on Wednesday (today).

The communiqué jointly signed by the state Chairman of the NLC, Godwin Anya; his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Ordue Tertenger, said: “The strike will be suspended on Wednesday, October 11, 2017; government undertakes to source for funds and pay two months arrears between Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13, 2017.”

It added that the state government promised “to exercise fiscal discipline, control its overheads, mop up all areas of leakages as well as increase its Internally Generated Revenue to be able to ensure regular patent of monthly salaries.

“Both parties shall continue to dialogue on all issues or matter affecting the welfare of workers and pensioners in the state.”

Politics / More Than 50million Nigerans Lack Access To Electricity - VP Osinbajo by mayorkun(m): 8:41am On Oct 11, 2017
Nigeria’s vice president Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said more than 50 million people in the West African country lacked access to electricity, accounting for more than quarter the nation’s population.

“Nigeria’s 180 million people, over 50 million have no power,” the VP said in a speech at the Financial Times Africa Summit holding in London.

Osinbajo said the government had embarked on measures to improve electricity access – including providing solar power to 20,000 homes in rural villages.

Only one in four people in the country currently have access to the grid, and of those that do, only a small minority have supplies of electricity for more than a few hours a day.

The chronic power outages have been attributed to underfunding of the sector by the government.

Most companies in the country are forced to invest heavily on generators to provide energy for their day-to-day activities. Compared to the cost of electricity, generators consume much more, thus burdening the companies heavily.

Osinbajo however said the government was changing that by investing more capital into electricity generation and provision.

He stated that the Federal government had pumped more than US$3.6 billion into infrastructure development to enable better provision of electricity.

Minister of Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, last week said an Electric Power Sector Reform Act passed in 2005, once implemented, would ensure better provision of the crucial service.

Fashola explained that with the law, the business of power generation, transmission and distribution had been democratized, and will now be within the domains of both the federal and state governments to consider investing in.

Politics / Nigeria Like A Car, Fixing It Difficult – Osinbajo by mayorkun(m): 3:27pm On Oct 09, 2017
VICE President, Yemi Osinbajo has
described Nigeria as a problematic car
that would be difficult to fix with the
engine running.

Osinbajo, in a recent interview, said the
All Progressives Congress (APC) is on a
difficult revolutionary mission to fix that
car (Nigeria) with the engine running.
“Let me say first of all that APC is a
revolutionary party – we have come to do
so many things that are revolutionary,”
he told Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV.
“Now that process by itself will be
a difficult process; there is no way you
are going to fix a car with the engine
running and that’s what we are doing.
We’ve got to fix this car (this Nigeria)
with the engine running, it’s a difficult
task but we are committed.
“In my view, the existential problem
we have is corruption. If we can deal
with that governance issue, if we can
deal with that corruption issue, this
country will fly and that’s what we are
trying to do.
“We have an honest president, that’s a
very important thing.
“If you have a president who is honest,
who is straightforward, who at least
we can say is not taking a bribe, is not
stealing resources – that is a major part
of this whole revolution,” said the Vice
President.

Foreign Affairs / Ethiopia Parliament Speaker Resigns by mayorkun(m): 1:57pm On Oct 09, 2017
The speaker of Ethiopia’s lower house of parliament announced his resignation without giving any reason on Sunday.

Abadula Gemeda was the speaker of the House of People’s Representatives from 2010 and was previously army chief of staff and president of the country’s most-populous region, Oromia.

“I have submitted a letter of resignation to the House of People’s Representatives and the concerned body to quit my job as the speaker of the House,” he told a press conference.

“I don’t want to continue in this position and I have lost interest,” he said, adding that he would disclose the precise reasons for his departure once his resignation is accepted.

Abadula said he would stay in parliament as a member of the Oromo People’s Democratic Organisation (OPDO), which he helped found.

The OPDO is one of four ethnically based parties that comprise the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary and Democratic Front (EPRDF) coalition, which together with its allies controls all seats in Ethiopia’s parliament.

Oromia was rocked by anti-government protests that started in late 2015 and soon spread to neighbouring regions, prompting the government to declare a nationwide state of emergency that was repealed in August.

Last month, clashes broke out along the border between Oromia and neighbouring Somali region, killing hundreds and displacing at least 50,000 people.

Crime / I Sell Indian Hemp Worth N500,000 Daily by mayorkun(m): 1:44pm On Oct 09, 2017
A suspected male Indian hemp and other hard drugs merchant, popularly known as Malboro, has said he sold an average of N500,000 worth of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs daily, in Akala, Mushin area of Lagos State.

He was among the 50 suspected criminals arrested during a joint operation by Lagos State Task Force over the weekend.

The suspect claimed many of his clients were usually from Obalende, Oshodi, Pen-cinema, Apapa, Lagos Island, Fadeyi among others saying “Akala serves as a Central Market for Indian hemp and illicit drugs to all miscreants and hoodlums across the state.”

The State Task Force had combed the area, arrested 50 suspected notorious criminals and recovered 48 bags of illicit drugs.

The Chairman of the Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyem, said the operation was in continuation of the bid to drastically reduce criminality across the state in enforcement operations on ‘Eradication of Criminal Hideouts’ carried out in the area as directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Imohimi Edgal.

The Chairman said 44 males and six females suspects were arrested during the mid-night joint enforcement operation, as led by Mr. Soji Akinbayo an Assistant Commissioner of Police with the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyemi and all Divisional Police Officers under Area ‘D’ command Mushin.

A female suspect popularly known as Iya Suzzy, who hails from Ibadan in Oyo State confessed to have been trading in Indian hemp and other illicit drugs at Akala area for over 17 years.

This our Nigeria and its creativity is really getting out of hand. You can quote me ooo because I never see this one before. Bridal shower in towels..hmmm. I know what you are thinking guys but I hate to admit it, this is for real.

Emmanuella Chidera, a Facebook user has just shared these photos from her sister’s bridal shower which held Friday night last week and social media is going gaga over the pictures on gorgeous ladies rapped in towels.
The girls only clad with wine coloured towels and shower caps posed by the bride who donned a white towel, distinguishing herself from the rest. According to Ezeonu’s Facebook, her sister had her wedding on Saturday.

What do you think about this creativity? Will it trend?

It would however seem that the stigma is lifting, as more Nigerian women are openly dating and even marrying their young lovers, not caring what the world thinks; and why should they? We must accept love wherever it finds us, right?

Well, these women certainly think so, banishing tradition and living out their dream love lives. And yes, you know them. Oh well, today i would love us to take a peep into the private lives of our very own Nigerian celebrities with daring age gaps between them and their women.

1. Lola & Peter Okoye

Toping the list in no particular order is is Peter Okoye of P-Square musical duo and Lola Omotayo Lola is said to be 6 years older than Peter. Peter and his twin brother Paul were born on the 18th of November 1981.

Although no one is saying anything concerning Lola’s precise date of birth, of course you know how it is with women and their age. In an earlier interview years back, Lola addressed the age gap between them thus: “Like I said, Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old.

Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”

2. Deola Ayeni & Dare Art-alade

Next on the list is Dare Art-Alade and his wife Deola Ayeni. Deola is 8 years older than Darey yet they’ve been married for over 5 years with lovely kids.

Dare once responded thus in an interview about their age gap: Do you not feel any pressure of any sort being married to somebody older than you are? No pressures at all! Every body at sometime finds what works for him or her. I am perfectly happy with my marriage to my wife and I absolutely have no problems or pressures of any sort.

3. Toyin Lawani And Trigga

Another couple who are proudly flying the flag for older woman/younger man relationship is celeb stylist/fashion designer Toyin Lawani who is 32 years old & engaged to her 22 year old boo Triggakess, Omo, a whole lot of 10 years difference!!!
The couple who proudly refer to themselves as Naija’s Rihanna & Chris Brown, they both welcomed their first baby couple of months ago although Toyin has an 8 year old daughter from a previous relationship. Theirs show that age is just a number and that what matters is love.

In her recent interview, Toyin responded thus about their age difference: Congratulations on your second child.

How are you combining motherhood and work? Thank you. It’s been very tedious. It’s not only about having a maid, sometimes you need to be present at things like P.T.A. meetings that need personal attention. But Trigga has been wonderful and understanding. He helps a lot.

5. Anne Njemanze & Silver Ojieson

Segun Arinze’s ex wife, actress Ann Njemanze, who remarried last year disclosed in an interview that her husband is few years younger than her. Hear her: Your husband seems so young and fresh, he’s younger than you are obviously? Ah, yes he is, with few years.
My husband and I do not share up to 5 years difference and he is not bothered about it. Has he ever been married before? No, he’s never been married, no way. This is his last marriage in Jesus name. He is the only son of his parents too from Edo State.

6. Queen Ure Okezie & Soul E

Before their separation, they were so much in love despite the fact that Queen Ure was 11 years older than Soul E.

In one of their major interviews years ago when they were still very much in love, they both addressed their wide age gap thus: Did you consider his age at that time? URE: No Did he tell you? URE: Well he added a few years to his age. What do you have to say about the reports that you are fond of dating older women? SOUL E:I don’t have anything to say about it, it is my life. I have always known that it would happen; I’m too big that’s why I attract people that are older than me. I told my parents when I was growing up that I don’t know- then, I had two serious relationships and all of them were older than me. I knew right from the scratch that I was going to end up with someone older than me.

Celebrities / Kim Kardashian's Paris Attacker Sends Her Apology Letter by mayorkun(m): 1:59pm On Sep 29, 2017
According to TMZ, the attacker apologized for the psychological pain he caused her.

TMZ reports that Kim’s legal team in France received a letter from the man identified as Aomar Ait Khedache, the alleged architect of the brazen October 2016 heist.

The news outlet said, “We’re told the letter was handwritten in French, and translated by Kim’s attorneys.”

The letter reads, in part, “After observing your emotion and realizing the psychological damages I inflicted … I decided to write to you, not to obtain from you some sort of indulgence.
“I want to come to you as a human being to tell you how much I regret my gesture, how much I have been moved and touched to see you in tears.”

Almost a year ago, Kim was held at gunpoint, and feared she would be r*ped during the robbery of more than $10 million in jewelry.

Kim recently, tearfully too, opened up about the ordeal and Khedache added in his letter that he has seen clips on French TV.

He added, “Know that I fully sympathize with the pain you are enduring, your children, your husband, and your close ones.
“I hope that this letter will allow you to forget little by little the trauma that you suffered by my fault.”

Celebrities / 5 Lessons Upcoming Artistes Can Learn From Wizkid by mayorkun(m): 1:47pm On Sep 29, 2017
Several challenges abound for upcoming artistes especially for those without a record label. Dropping singles every month, collaborating with other artistes on joint tracks, performing for a meager pay at shows/concerts, appealing to streets and radio DJs to play your song, settling the bloggers who will publicize your brand, it’s really a long way to stardom.

Wizkid was in those shoes too even though he started early as Lil Prinz at the age of 11, he was in the category of ‘legendary hustlers’ as he was a studio rat together with Siri (remember him in Ojuelegba?) in the famous MoDogg studio.

However, Wizkid’s ascension from an upcoming artiste to arguably Africa’s best exploit to the world is extraordinary yet surprising.

Wizkid has broken and set new records in the industry. He’s the perfect example to follow. Virtually everyone wants to be like the Starboy. However, before you begin your journey, these are lessons to learn from the Baba Nla.

1. Work Hard

Wizkid’s first album is a must have for every upcoming artiste. No wonder it ranks high among the best albums in Nigeria. The album is detailed with the struggles Wizkid faced while he was an upcoming artiste, how people scorned him then but wanted to associate when he had made it.

Especially in Oluwa Loni and Wad Up, he revealed how he used to wear one shirt, one jean, hustling on the streets, hoping to meet a benefactor one day. He did free shows, went to studios before OJB took interest in him and he eventually laid the chorus on M.I’s track, “fast money, fast cars”.

As an upcoming artiste, never rest on your oars, greatness is not achieved in a day.

2. Networking

Relationships with people don’t happen immediately. You have to meet with people who are friends with them just to be close with them. Wizkid would definitely have networked his way to meeting OJB Jezreel.

OJB was one of the major producers back then due to his relationship with 2face and the whole of Kennis Music. Even now, Wizkid is still networking.

Skepta referred Wizkid to Drake, his relationship with TY Dollarsign granted him a feature with Future and they’re already on tour.

Upcoming artistes should learn to network with influential people in the entertainment industry. The industry is a wide place, there are a lot of people to network with. Make friends with the big players in the industry.

5 Things Don Jazzy Can Learn From Olamide About Artiste Management

3. Leave Your Comfort Zone

The man would leave his family and cling unto his wife and they shall become one. Who remembers this saying? Well, one of the reasons why Wizkid is at the top of the game right now is because he decided it was time to establish his own franchise.

It was time to leave the local terrain. Wizkid might have never had that kind of international exposure if he was still under EME. Could have remained local like Davido. His decision to stand alone gave him the opportunity to surf the globe, trying to gain some international connect.

That’s why Kiss Daniel and Reekado Banks are finding it hard under their labels because they can’t make their decisions alone, kind of like been controlled.

4. Evolve Constantly

Wizkid never started out as an afro-beat artiste, he was actually doing some lovey-dovey songs and RnB. This was evident in his superstar album. Only few had a little afro-beat sounds. But after a period of self-discovery, he tapped into the world of afro-beat with Jaiye Jaiye and since assumed the post of the “New King Of Afro-Beat”.

Upcoming artistes should never fail to explore, don’t just streamline your music to only one genre, evolve, tweak your sound and let your fans feel your versatility.

5 Entrepreneurial Lessons You All Need To Learn From Small Doctor

5. Develop A Wonderful Relationship With The Fans

One thing that stood Wizkid out when he was an upcoming artiste was that he had a wonderful relationship with the fans. That has been helping him in his career. Maybe that’s why he’s the most followed Nigerian on Twitter.

He interacts well with them, preaches goodwill messages, makes them laughs(who remembers when he cooked watery indomie and posted it on Snapchat?), drops hints of songs to be released and he’s also generous.

So, upcoming artistes, it’s left to you. To make it in the entertainment industry is an uphill task. You have to be unique and extraordinary. You have to please the fans as they’re your customers, they’re the ones who will buy your songs and promote it as well.

Your music has to appeal to them. You need God as well as a good record label and management. Or else you can blow and eventually unblow like Ice Prince.

Apart from these reasons, What else do you think Upcoming Artistes Can Learn from Wizkid?

Have your say in the comments box.

Celebrities / Why I Featured Only Adekunle Gold On My Album - Simi by mayorkun(m): 10:42am On Sep 29, 2017
Singer Simisola Ogunleye aka Simi, has revealed why Adekunle Gold was the only artiste featured on her sophomore album.

Although the pair’s rumoured romance has been put forward on social media as the probable reason, the Joromi singer, in a chat with HipTV, said Adekunle Gold barely made the cut to be on the album.

She said: “The only reason why I have just Adekunle Gold on the album is because after we had done all the songs we were going to do, the only song that had a feature that made the finalist was the one that Adekunle Gold was on. There is no big story.”

The singer also spoke about her recent proclamation that Nigerian men aren’t romantic, which she was heavily criticised for.

“My take is that nobody is allowed to cheat in a relationship but they do it anyway. If a man cheats, he’s scum, if a woman cheats, she’s a scum. Obviously, people are harder on women if it happens with women and that’s ridiculous,” she said.

“I feel like if you value something you have, if you value somebody you’re with you’re going to do your best to treat them right and make sure that they feel special. It’s the same for both guys and girls. That’s the way I handle it”, she added.

The artiste further said everyone deserves to be treated equally, irrespective of gender.

She said: “It is a man’s world because we let it be a man’s world. It’s not a man’s world because they have any special powers. It’s not a woman’s world because we have special powers. It’s a human beings world.

“We are all supposed to be good to each other, I’m supposed to value you as a man and you’re supposed to value me as a woman. Nobody is better than anybody”, Simi stated.

Simi, who is reveling in the growing success of her new album, says she’s been overwhelmed by its reception.

“Acceptance of the album has been extremely amazing. People have been very supportive. I’m excited to be experiencing this right now,” she said.

The 15-track album, Simisola, was released about three weeks ago.

Phones / How To Erase IPhone's Data Before Selling It by mayorkun(m): 10:34am On Sep 29, 2017
For security reasons, there is a need for one to wipe off his personal data from his mobile phone before transferring ownership as it could be detrimental.

A new version of iPhone will soon be available in the stores nationwide. Apple just launched iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus with upgraded features and it started shipping on September 22.

The phones come with 64GB or 256GB storage. Come November 3, the company will also start receiving pre-orders for iPhone X to mark its 10th anniversary.

Which of the latest version of iPhone has caught your fancy? Are you planning to trade in your old phone for a new iPhone? Whichever version you decide to buy, remember you will need to backup all your information on the old one. Your pictures, videos, documents, emails, contacts, and other personal information should not be shared with the new buyer.

Follow these simple steps highlighted by www.lifewire.com to make sure that every trace of you and your life has been wiped from the phone.

Make a backup of your iPhone’s data

If you are getting a new iPhone, you will need to make sure that your old one is backed up so that when you restore the data to your new phone. Everything will be current and you won’t have to start from the scratch.

Depending on which version of iOS you are using and your sync preference settings, you should either backup to your computer or the iCloud service.

Currently, the iCloud service will backup almost everything that you need to restore your iPhone but it is possible that some apps will not support backup to the iCloud.

Also, some really old versions of iPhones such as the original iPhone and iPhone 3G don’t have access to the iCloud service so you will need to use a computer as backup using the iPhone’s docking cable. Follow the steps below to do this.

Connect your iPhone to the computer you normally sync it with.
Open iTunes and click on your iPhone from the left-hand navigation pane.
From the iPhone’s page on the right side of the screen, click the “Back up to this computer” check box.
Right-click the iPhone from the window pane on the left side of the screen and click “Back Up” from the pop-up menu.

Note: If you have purchased some items on your phone and haven’t transferred these purchases to your computer yet, right-click the iPhone and choose “Transfer Purchases” to transfer the purchases prior to backup.

Make sure the back-up process succeeds before performing the following steps:

Erase all of your iPhone’s data and settings

Since you don’t want the buyer to have access to your personal data, you will need to wipe the phone clean of all of your personal data. Follow these instructions to clear the data on your phone.

Tap the settings ‘gear icon’ from the home screen or any other page it is located on your iPhone.
Tap the “General” settings menu item.
Choose the “Reset” menu item.
Tap on the “Erase All Content and Settings” menu item.
The process can take between a few minutes to several hours so it is probably something that you don’t want to do while you are waiting in line to trade your phone in.

I found the hard way that just because you wiped your iPhone’s data doesn’t mean that everything linking you to the phone has been removed. There are some apps that may still be linked based on your phone’s unique hardware ID.

If you use any apps that allow you to authenticate based on your iPhone’s unique hardware ID, you should visit the apps websites to unlink the phone to your account. This is because some apps retain your personal information as long as they are still linked your iPhone’s unique ID. You can link your new phone to your account after you install the apps on your new iPhone.

Here are 10 things, Playboy founder, Hugh Hefner who passed away in the early hours today, would be remembered for.

1. Despite being raised in a devout methodist home, Hugh M. Hefner, the American icon in 1953 introduced the world to Playboy, an adult magazine, and built the company into one of the most recognizable American global brands in history, from his kitchen table.

2. Hefner was known for his strong stance on civil rights. The now standard-setting “Playboy Interview” debuted in 1962 when frequent contributor Alex Haley interviewed jazz legend Miles Davis. Haley’s Playboy interviews, which are still important reads for cultural historians, also included Malcolm X (1963), Martin Luther King (1965), and perhaps most famously, George Lincoln Rockwell (1966), the founder of the American Nazi Party.

3. As the host of a television series, “Playboy’s Penthouse,” Hefner paved the way as the first televised program to feature mixed groups of African American and white performers and audience members together.

4. He also fought against the racist Jim Crow laws in the South by integrating Playboy Clubs in Miami and New Orleans.

5. When the U.S. Post Office refused to deliver Playboy to subscribers through the mail, he fought all the way to the Supreme Court, winning a landmark decision which was widely considered a victory for free speech.

6. He fought the country’s archaic “sodomy laws,” firmly believing that the government had no place in American bedrooms. His work in this area has been recognized as influential by historians of the gay rights movement.

7. In 1980, Hefner championed the reconstruction of the Hollywood sign and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his efforts. In the shadow of the sign that he helped to preserve, Hefner stages the annual Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, an event which is in its 39th year.

8. This year, a 10-episode docudrama series on Hefner’s life, entitled American Playboy, appeared on Amazon.

9. Hugh Hefner is survived by his wife Crystal, four grown children, Christie, who served as CEO of Playboy Enterprise for more than 20 years, David, Marston and Cooper, who currently serves as Chief Creative Officer at the company.

10. Hefner is a recipient of numerous accolades and awards for his contributions to society and the publishing industry, including:

*Received the 1996 International Publishing Award from the International Press Directory in London and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Society of Magazine Editors at its 1998 ceremonies in New York.
