“Over 100,000 youth and women would be
empowered through the line up empowerment

“My administration is youth based, we are rolling

Politics › Tinubu, Gbajabiamila, Call For Patience To Survive Economic Challenges by mazimee(op): 1:01pm On Sep 12, 2016
Lagos – Sen. Bola Tinubu, a National leader of the
All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that
economic restrategising and replanning are
necessary to achieve sustainable national
prosperity.
Tinubu sais this after Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks
praying ground in Lagos on Monday that lack of
solid foundation contributed to the nation’s current
economic situation.
“Without a good and solid foundation, we cannot
achieve a sustainable economic prosperity. We
depended solely on one channel of revenue.
“So, we need to restrategise and replan, but that
planning period is always a very difficult period in
any family, organisation and nation.
“That is what we are experiencing now, but it is for
a better and stronger future.
“The political and economic stability we are
enjoying in Lagos today is as a result of a solid
foundation,’’ he said.
In her message, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Idiat
Adebule, urged Nigerians to uphold the significance
of Eid-el Kabir, total trust and obedience to God, to
accelerate the pace of economic recovery.
Adebule also urged them to celebrate peacefully
and reach out to the less privileged among them.
“We can only enjoy Allah’s favour when we totally
trust and obey His will. He is our creator and He
knows what is best for us as individuals and as a
nation,’’ Adebule said.
Also, Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, leader, House of
Representatives, called on Nigerians to be patient
and not lose hope.
Gbajabiamila said that President Muhammadu
Buhari was making effort to reform the economy.
“I urge us to be prayerful and by God’s grace we
shall get better and stronger as a nation,’’ he said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai
Owoseni, called for reflection on the significance of
Eid-el Kabir and modest celebration to reduce
crime.
Owoseni advised residents to be security conscious
and cooperate with security agents to ensure a
crime-free celebration.
In his words, Sheikh Garuba Akinola-Ibrahim, Chief
Imam of Lagos, called for greater sacrifice from
both government and citizens to survive the period
of recession in the country.
“In the spirit of Eid-el Kabir, we urge the
government to double up efforts to avoid our
situation from getting to a critical stage which can
rub off negatively on all government’s achievements
so far.
“I also urged the citizens to exercise patience and
be prayerful in this trying period.
“We need to focus on our strength in diversity and
utilise our unique gifts to improve our present
economy,’’ Akinola-Ibrahim said. (NAN)

Politics › Look Beyond APC - Ekweremadu Tells Buhari by mazimee(op): 11:04pm On Sep 11, 2016
ABUJA- DEPUTY Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to in the spirit of Eid- Kabir celebration look beyond the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and constitute a Special Economic Squad to rescue the country from the present economic meltdown.

In his Eid-El Kabir message to the Muslim Ummah, Senator Ekweremadu also called on all Muslims to use the occasion of the Eid-El Kabir to pray for the nation’s quick recovery from her current economic recession, expressing confidence that Nigerians, working together, could heal the nation’s economy.

According to the statement which was signed by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, Uche Anichukwu, the Deputy Senate President who noted that prayers alone, was not enough since Islam advocates both Work and Prayer, stressed that the present economic challenges were not beyond redemption, but could actually become the nation’s turning point away from an oil-driven economy to real prosperity if the right policies and structures were put in place.

He said: “I warned long ago that elections had come and gone and we should move from politics to governance. It is time for governance and we must bring all capable hands on the deck, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic backgrounds.

“Nigerians are facing hard times; and all they are interested in are positive results and urgent succour. They don’t care whether you are All Progressives Congress, APC, or Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and whether you are North or South. The good news is that capable hands abound in the country. We must assemble them and give them both the mandate and liberty to help the president’s team to revamp the nation’s economy”.

Ekweremadu who also commended the nation’s security agencies for the security arrangements put in place to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration, stressed that the war against insurgency and crime was beyond partisan politics because the terrorists and criminals do not consider party, religion, and ethnicity in their orgies of violence and blood-letting against the nation.

He added: “My heart goes out in a special way to the men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who are waging the war against insurgents in the North East. Through the successes of Operation Lafiya Dole, which has been able to consolidate on the efforts of the last administration, they have made it possible for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, to begin their homeward journey. This is commendable and their families deserve all the love we can give at Eid-El Kabir.

“I commend in the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Defence Staff, and General Gabriel Olonisakin; and indeed the entirety of the nation’s Armed Forces for the progress in this regard. It shows that Nigerians always win whenever they come together with determination on any matter whatsoever.”

Ekweremadu who called on the Muslim Ummah to emulate the uncommon sense of sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim in their service to God and humanity, wished them and all Nigerians a happy Sallah celebration.

Politics › Eid Al-adha: Boko Haram Opens Fire Travellers In Maiduguri by mazimee(op): 10:22pm On Sep 11, 2016
Boko Haram was on Sunday blamed for an attack
on motorists in northeast Nigeria which left one
person dead and underlined the Islamist group’s
continuing security threat to civilians.
Gunmen on Saturday opened fire on a convoy of
vehicles travelling to the Borno state capital,
Maiduguri, from the garrison town of Monguno, 140
kilometres (about 85 miles) to the northeast.
“They shot dead a driver and injured two women
and a child travelling with him,” said bus driver
Kabir Hassan, who arrived at the scene shortly after
the attack.
The victims were heading to Maiduguri to celebrate
the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha on Monday and
the vehicles included traders in a pick-up truck
packed with rams for the annual ritual sacrifice.
The traders abandoned their animals when the
shooting started and the rams were seized by the
rebels, said driver Abba Gana, who gave a similar
toll of death and injuries.
A car abandoned by fleeing travellers was torched
in the attack and the wounded taken to a hospital
in Maiduguri for treatment, Hassan and Gana said.
– Military escorts –
The scene of the attack — Kulukawuya village, 50
kilometres from Maiduguri — is on a strategic trade
route linking the city to Gamboru on the border with
Cameroon.
In the past two years Boko Haram has carried out
near daily deadly attacks on motorists on the
highway, making the road unsafe for travellers and
forcing the military to later close the road.
But it was declared open again in July and hailed
as an indication of military success in pushing the
insurgents into the semi-desert wilderness of the
Borno countryside.
Nevertheless, passenger vehicles and trucks laden
with goods still typically drive with a military escort
in case of sporadic attacks.
– Regional ops –
Nigeria and a regional military coalition involving its
neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger has put
pressure on the Islamic State group affiliate, whose
insurgency has killed at least 20,000 since 2009.
Supply lines for fuel, food and weapons have been
cut, forcing remaining fighters to launch attacks on
unaccompanied vehicles on the road and remote
villages from their hideouts in the bush.
Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF)
spokesman Colonel Muhammad Dole said in a
statement on Saturday that recent air strikes had hit
12 known Boko Haram camps, which had “greatly
shattered their cohesion”.
There was no independent verification of the claim
but Dole said blockade of supply routes and arrests
of suspected Boko Haram quartermasters had
caused the group “serious hardships”.
Four Boko Haram fighters suspected of having
attacked an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp
in the Diffa area of eastern Niger were killed and
two others arrested, he added.
But two soldiers were killed and six others wounded
in a “clearing operation” after air strikes at Baroua
village. The injured were taken to Niger’s capital,
Niamey, for treatment, he said.

OP is just making me reek with laughter.

what happened to vessel that sings and the song itself?

the fact that it contains God's name doesn't justify the fact

Psalm 137 comes to mind. funny enough that was outside the temple.

nowadays, secular are much in the temple to sing Gospel songs.

like my friend in a music Contest. he qualified for semis and he chose phyno's fade fade for his next song, cos gospel was the next show. the judge asked if that song was secular or gospel. he was just looking like iroko tree.

The judge faced the audience and said it's by a SECULAR ARTISTE and therefore attracts that classification. that's the technicality. Lobatan.
What about the fact that the hook line has been in existence even before phyno thought of going Into music? So because the artist that recreated that song is a secular artist, Hence, the song ceases to be a gospel song right?
Wow shocked shocked
Christianity Etc › Praise Songs From Secular Artists Isn't Praise Enough To Praise God? by mazimee(op): 3:07pm On Sep 11, 2016
Okay, I will start by saying that I haven't been really a religious or a spiritual person. But I believe in the existence of God and I attend church services when Sometimes. I can't really say that I am the type that swallows everything that I am told in the church hook line and sinker without subjecting it to my own rational thinking. I hate being religious, I have my own understanding of God and standard of worshiping him.
So, what I'm trying to say is that, I don't conform to everything that I see all hear from the church.

Having said all these , let me quickly go straight to the reason why I opened this thread.
Today in the church, I noticed something that caught my attention. While the praise section was going on, if you are conversant with Nigerian churches you will agree with me that there are times the praise will be so hit up (that time e go dey hot). One of those times happens to be today. The keyboardist played the intro notes from Phyno's fada fada. The lead singer followed the lead and sang along.

The young people were singing with joy. The sister them and brother them kind of members were having non of that. So they kept quite like they heard Olamide's Story for the gods in the presence of the most high. Some were even mumbling when the it got to "buru ekene buru otito part" like they heard "shakiti Bobo" and quickly sat down. They remained motionless to the song until it was changed to their accepted kind of praise.

I kept thinking about the whole scenario while in the church. I have even gone back home still thinking. I am not understanding

What really make a song a gospel song, the lyrics that edifies God or or the artist that sang it.
Does the praise song coming from a secular artist change the fact it was praising God.
To think that this was an old igbo gospel song that got some creative touches makes it even hard to understand what really changed.
