Some senators on Wednesday in Abuja expressed the desire for Service Chiefs to be summoned to the Senate to brief members on security issues which led to the rescheduling of the general elections. The senators made their desire known in a session with newsmen shortly after the appearance of Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, at the senate to explain reasons for shifting the polls. Jega had, while announcing the postponement of the elections on Feb. 8, predicated on the advice of the nation’s security chiefs. The senators insisted that there was need for the service chiefs to assure Nigerians of their readiness to provide security for electoral officials on the new dates of the elections. Sen. George Akume (APC-Benue) said that the leadership of the Senate still needed to invite the service chiefs to brief the lawmakers. He hinged their demand on Jega’s inability to answer some of the questions which bothered on ensuring that the new election dates were sacrosanct. Similarly, Sen. Bukola Saraki (APC-Kwara), who told the newsmen that Nigerians needed to be prepared for the use of the card readers during elections, insisted that the Senate should summon the service chiefs. Saraki said that the INEC boss had repeatedly said he could not answer questions on security for the elections. “Jega said categorically that he cannot answer that question; that we need to have the service chiefs to answer that question. “So we are still back to that issue on security; I think that to further emphasise what we were saying yesterday, that the Senate and the National Assembly still need to invite the service chiefs to give us the assurance.“If we keep on talking to Prof. Jega, we cannot hold him responsible for that; what we can hold him responsible for, he has givena good explanation already. “The most important thing is holding election on that day and the only person that can answer that as he said, is that we should bring the service chiefs to answer that. “So next week, we hope the leadership will do the right thing,” he said. He expressed satisfaction with the preparations by INEC and the demonstration on the operation of the card reader to the lawmakers. On his part, Sen. Ita Enang, said that INEC had cleared itself and if any challenge still remained, the Senate should take it up with the relevant agencies. “Each person has its own duty; INEC has said that it is prepared. If we have a problem with any other agency, it is for us to interact with that agency. “That agency will only talk to us when they have enough facts. If there are any concerns, we will have a motion and we will address the concerns,” Enang said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/elections-senators-want-service-chiefs-to-brief-senate/

criuze:You mst b a successful person :-) |
1. They don't define success in a monetary term. Most successful people define success as happiness, having a peace of mind, or helping others. They see money as something that brings them comfort and opens doors of opportunities. They realize that money can't buy them happiness. 2. They don't start their days without plans. Successful people know that in order to stay on top of work and become successful, they need to be disciplined and be smart with how they manage their time. In order to do this, they plan their days ahead, putting together a to-do list at the start of the day -- what needs to be done and in what order. Not only are they going to make sure that they don't miss out on any important task or meeting, but also optimize their time for the optimal performance. 3. They don't define "perfection" as their end goal. To successful people, striving for perfection is rather a waste of energy and time because you would be spending your time looking for mistakes and faults to fix. Instead, you should strive for "growth." From one point to another, successful people achieve each goal with growth in mind. 4. They don't surround themselves with negative people. Pessimistic people, people who whinge and complain, people who procrastinate, and people who find excuses for everything -- these are the kinds of people that successful people don't surround themselves with. Because the more you hang around these people, the more negative energy you receive. Instead, successful people hang around positive people, driven people, and people inspire them. 5. They don't perceive difficulties as problems. When successful people face a difficulty or an obstacle, they see it as another challenging issue that they need to solve like any other obstacles they've gone through in the past. They believe that these experiences will only make them smarter and stronger. 6. They don't let failure bring them down. Successful people see failure as a part of growth and an opportunity to learn and make a progress. They believe that no matter how many times they fail, they will get back up again stronger than before. 7. They don't let problems bring them down. If you let your life get weighed down by problems, you're not going to be anything but stressed. And that is the way to having more problems in life. When facing a problem, instead of focusing on the problem, you should focus on your action and what you do to make the situation better. By shifting your focus like this, you will feel better and find an even better way to solve the problem. 8. They don't let other people's judgments affect their self-esteem. Successful people don't let themselves and their self-esteem get bogged down by other people's words or judgments. They know what they are worth and what they stand for. They know what they want out of lives, what they are looking for, and they have their own rules for making all that happen for themselves. They don't rely on outside approval. They don't need others to prove their worth. 9. They don't make excuses. Successful people take responsibility for their mistakes. If things don't go as planned or something goes wrong, they will take responsibility for it and fix the problem. Successful people are determined to get their goals achieved each day -- no matter big or small. They don't make excuses. 10. They don't envy other people's success. Successful people believe that everyone has the ability to become successful. They believe that the more successful people there are, the better this world will become. Seeing other people succeed doesn't make them envy, but rather makes them feel inspired and motivated. 11. They don't ignore those they love. No matter how much work is important to successful people, it is not as important as the people they love -- family, partner, and their own selves. True success starts from within. The love and support from the loved ones are significant and can be tremendously helpful in making someone succeed. 12. They don't forget to have fun. Work can be tiring. Successful people know that work without play is meaningless. Work has to be enjoyable. And the way to achieving that is to do what they love and to have to work-life balance even though it's hard at time. Successful people know that it is important to get enough sleep as well as to take time to relax and play in order to be able to perform at their best. 13. They don't overlook their health. Truly successful people know that good health brings in a clear head, a motivated mind, and a fully charged body, which are critical in producing great work. Everything in life starts with good health. And everything else ends when health collides. 14. They don't set vague life goals. Successful people know "exactly" what they what in life. They know what their dreams are and they are determined to achieve them. When you are clear with what you want in life, coming up with plans and a roadmap to achieving that is easy. All you need to do is to follow through, never give up, and never get distracted. By having a clear life goal, you are able to evaluate where you are in life and how far you are from your goal. In short, by having a goal and a dream, you're half way there. 15. They don't just talk the talk. They walk the walk. Successful people don't just talk -- whether it's about ideas or criticize others. They make sure things get done and what they said they'd do will happen. They execute. They implement. They are reliable and trustworthy. 16. They don't let themselves become victims. Successful people don't let themselves become victims of other people's actions. They are smart enough to get away from bad people and bad situations. They don't hold grudges and don't look to take revenge. They know that they only way for them to be happy is to let go and move on -- so that they can let better things in life come in. 17. They don't get stuck in the past. Successful people don't let themselves get weighed down by their past. If you live in your past, you're never going to be happy in the present especially if you have a painful past. Be mindful and live in the moment. 18. They don't resist change. Plans, strategies, and tactics -- all of these can change over time. Successful people accept them without frustration and resistance. They adjust and adapt because they believe that there is no fixed route to success. 19. They don't ever stop learning. No matter how old they get, successful people are always learning because they believe that no one knows everything. Inspiration can arise anywhere, anytime, from anyone. Therefore, don't act like a glass full of water. Instead, act like a glass half full so that you can always have room to learn something new. 20. They don't end their days without feeling thankful. No matter big or small, successful people feel thankful for things in their lives and in their everyday lives. They show appreciation for those who have helped them. They thank people who support them and stand besides them. They feel thankful for what they have in their lives, rather than looking at what they don't have. Successful people simply feel blessed and thankful for being alive and waking up to the people they love to do the things they love -- and that's the secret to starting their days with positive energy and a peace of mind. https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Musa-and-Enyeama-360x245.jpg Musa and Enyeama Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa made the 25 players list for the 2014 Glo-CAF African Player of The Year award announced by the Confederation of African Football on Thursday in Cairo. The Glo-CAF Awards is scheduled for Lagos on January 8, 2015. Twenty-five players were nominated for the African Player of the Year category while 20 players made the list for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category. Mamelodi Sundowns winger Ejike Uzoenyi is the only Nigerian player shortlisted in the 20-man list of Africa-based Player of the Year award. Musa and Enyeama were part of the Super Eagles’ squad that won the 2013 African Nations Cup in South Africa and also participated actively as the Eagles reached the Round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Indeed, Musa scored twice as the African champions lost 3-2 to Argentina in the group stage of the competition. Uzoenyi on the other hand made his international debut for Nigeria in 2012. He was called up to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and was named to Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship, where he emerged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He was also named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and made the final squad to Brazil after left-back Elderson Echiejile copped an injury on the eve of the tournament. Later Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Senso Meyiwa is also among the players nominated for the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category. In picking the nominees, CAF took into consideration the performances of the nominees for their national teams and clubs from January to November 2014. Other Players shortlisted for the African Player of the Year award include the Ghanaian duo of Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah; Dame N’doye and Sadio Mané (Senegal); Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo); and the Cameroonian trio of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Stephane Mbia and Vincent Aboubakar. Others are Ivoirians Gervinho, Wilfred Bony and Yaya Toure. Tunisians Fakhreddine Ben Youssef and Ferdjani Sassi also made the list. The winners of the two categories will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches and Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF. Ivorian Yaya Toure was crowned African Player of the Year for the past three years whilst Mohamed Aboutreika of Egypt was named African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) last year. Zambian President Michael Sata has died in London, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, the government said. Roland Msiska, secretary to the Zambian cabinet, said in a statement on Wednesday that Sata died late on Tuesday in London, where he was being treated. "As you are aware the president was receiving medical attention in London," Msiska told state television. "The head of state passed on October 28. President Sata's demise is deeply regretted. The nation will be kept informed on burial arrangements." Msiska says Sata's wife, Christine Kaseba, and other family members were with the 77-year-old president when he died. An official told Al Jazeera that the death had been announced to the cabinet on Wednesday morning. Sata had left Zambia for medical treatment on October 19 accompanied by his wife and family members, according to a brief government statement that gave no further details. There had been no official update on his condition and acting president Edgar Lungu had to lead celebrations last week to mark the landlocked nation's 50th anniversary of independence from Britain. For supporters who voted him into office in 2011 he was a no-nonsense man of action. For critics, the former policeman, trade unionist and taxidermist was an authoritarian populist. 'King Cobra' Detractors, political foes, the media and even allies frequently came under attack from a man who earned the sobriquet "King Cobra". He once publicly upbraided his whole cabinet, threatening to collapse his own government if they did not do a better job. The final period of Sata's rule saw a crackdown on political opponents and critical journalists who reported on his long-suspected illness and frequent "working trips" abroad, apparently for medical treatment. Concern over Sata's health has been mounting in the country since June, when he disappeared from the public eye without explanation and was then reported to be getting medical treatment in Israel. He missed a scheduled speech at the UN General Assembly in September amid reports that he had fallen ill in his New York hotel. A few days before that, he had attended the opening of parliament in Lusaka, joking: "I am not dead." Sata has not been seen in public since he returned to Zambia from New York in late September. Sata, who once worked as a railway porter in London, had been the country's president since September 2011 after winning a tight presidential race against the then incumbent, Rupiah Banda. 1) iPhone 6 From £539 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03058/iphone_6_3058505c.jpg What’s made the iPhone so successful is its combination of user-friendly simplicity with sufficiently advanced functions and a beautiful, pleasing design. The iPhone 6 picks up where the 5s left off with a new larger 4.7-inch display, greatly improved battery life and slimmer body than ever before. It may not be the highest specced-model on the market, but frankly, none of the others come close to a winning combination of looks and functionality. With the iPhone 6, no one feature stands out, but the combination shows Apple once again doing what it does best: reinventing and repackaging existing ideas into a new, improved iPhone that hits rivals out of the park. Dimensions 138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm Screen 4.7” Weight 129g Storage 16GB/64GB/128GB Processor A8 64 bit Camera Front-facing:1.2MP Rear-facing: 8MP 2) LG G3 From £479 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02923/lgg3_2923456c.jpg Style is the new battleground for Android phones – it’s increasingly hard to tell the difference between the core functions available on Samsung, HTC and other major brands. For that reason alone, LG’s G3 deserves high praise: it’s as well built as the latest HTC One and more discretely stylish than the Samsung S5. It’s got a superb camera, and sits beautifully in the hand. While it’s not perfect, it’s close and the niggles are minor, making it one of the very best on the market right now. Dimensions 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm Screen 5.5” Weight 149g Storage MicroSD, up to 128 GB, internal memory 16 GB, 2 GB RAM/ 32 GB, 3 GB RAM Processor Qualcomm MSM8975AC Snapdragon 801 Camera Front-facing:2.1MP Rear- facing:13.1MP 3) Samsung Galaxy S5 From £579.00 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02840/samsunggalaxys5_2840506c.jpg The Galaxy S5’s excellent 16MP camera is its main feature - with high dynamic range resulting in consistently brilliant pictures, and a blink-and- you’ll-miss-it autofocus. Samsung has also worked on improving the phone’s durability and usability from its S4 predecessor, with improved resistance to dust and water. Its ridged silver edge and Elastoplast-style perforated back won’t be to everyone’s tastes, and the market for its use with other products including the Gear smartwatch and Gear Fit fitness band remains relatively small, but Samsung deserves credit for trying to create a whole new technology platform in an area where few rivals are striving as hard. Dimensions 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1mm Screen 5.1” Weight 145g Storage 2GB, Internal Memory: 16/32GB, microSD slot up to 128GB Processor Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 Camera Front-facing: 2MP Rear-facing: 16MP 4) HTC One (M8) From £535 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02884/htconem8_2884610c.jpg HTC’s flagship is widely held to be the best- designed Android phone on the market - its all- metal construction has a class that other manufacturers have consistently struggled to provide. The camera, unfortunately is a let-down, despite its much-vaunted claims to use ‘ultrapixels’ rather than plain old megapixels. But the HTC Sense interface is both clean(ish) and useful where it is conspicuous: think a great weather widget and really useful ways to share photos and the ‘Zoes’, where films and pictures are combined into one clever image. There are neat accessories, too, with a case that shows you the time through its aerated front, rather than simply hiding the whole screen. Dimensions 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm Screen 5” Weight 160g Storage 16/32 GB, 2 GB RAM, microSD, up to 128 GB Processor Quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 Camera Front-facing: 5MP Rear-facing 4MP 5) iPhone 6 Plus From £619 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03038/iphone6gold_3038976c.jpg If there’s a consistent complaint about the iPhone, it’s battery life. If there’s a consistent trend in mobile phones as a whole, it’s to ever bigger screens. With the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple addresses both those issues, and demonstrates that it may have taken its time but it can certainly play with the big boys. On the whole, the 6 Plus is the same as the iPhone 6 - scaled up, it adds various ways of making the most of its larger screen and slightly improves the camera. But the overriding question is simple: is it too big? In my view, no. The reasons to buy an Android phone have never been fewer. Dimensions 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm Screen 5.5” Weight 172g Storage 16GB/64GB/128GB Processor A8 chip with 64-bit architecture Camera Front-facing:1.2MP Rear-facing: 8MP 6) Nexus 5 From £295 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02720/nexus-5_2720035c.jpg The Nexus range of phones are Google’s own devices, made with HTC, LG, Samsung and others, aiming to push the boundaries of what Android can achieve while also unifying hardware and software. And with the new Nexus 5 phone, Google is for the first time addressing both problems: it’s a premium handset, but one that’s accompanied by a new version of the Android software that could offer top performance even on slower mobiles. he underlying impression is that with the Nexus 5 Google is producing yet another smartphone that proves a point: its software can not only power premium devices sold for a decent price, but it can also lead the way with innovative ideas that will come to fruition in the future and probably in devices made by others. At this price, that sort of innovation is easy to get excited about. Dimensions 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59mm Screen 4.95” Weight 130g Storage 16GB / 32GB, no microSD slot, 2GB RAM Processor 2.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (quad-core) Camera Front-facing: 1.3MP Rear-facing: 8MP 7) Sony Xperia Z3 From £549 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03065/xperiaz3_3065096c.jpg Waterproof and dustproof, Sony’s latest Xperia mobile is a triumph of discrete design. But its real triumph is in taking the best bits of the Sony empire and packing them into one single handset: so there’s the ‘Triluminos’ display that provides a superb screen, there’s high resolution audio and there’s superb 4K video via a 20.7MP camera. Design-wise, nylon corners make this expensive handset less likely to break if you drop it. Unfortunately, the camera is prone to overheating, and the operating system is occasionally a little buggy. Both of these are likely to be fixed, but they’re imperfections in a device that looks like it should be better. Dimensions 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm Screen 5.2” Weight 152g Storage microSD up to 128GB, 16/32GB, 3GB RAM Processor Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 Camera Front- facing: 2.2 MP Rear-facing: 20.7 MP Samsung Galaxy AlphaFrom £549.99 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03063/alphaarticle_3063811c.jpg The slick, metal Galaxy Alpha. It’s not quite a flagship, say the South Koreans, but it is a beauty. Even if you’re not fetishistically attached to metal – HTC fans – it’s hard not to wonder what took Samsung so long. With a 4.7-inch screen, the Alpha is a more manageable size than the 5.5-inch monsters such as the S5 and Note 4 – this is a phone that is super slim (6.7mm), very light (115g) and generally manageable with one hand. A fast processor keeps it coping with everything you’re likely to throw at it. That small package necessitates a smaller battery but that doesn’t compromise performance – I found the battery lasted a day. There’s a decent camera, too. If there’s a hint of the iPhone about the design, this still feels like a distinctive Samsung product. Dimensions 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm Screen 4.7” Weight 115g Storage RAM : 2GB Internal Memory : 16/32GB Processor Octa Core (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) or Quad Core 2.5GHz Camera Front-facing: 2.1MP Rear-facing: 12MP 9) Moto G From £135 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02733/MotoG2_2733081c.jpg The Moto G is a solidly built plastic phone with a 4.5” screen, running the latest version of Android to be in any sort of widespread circulation. So far, so unexciting if you’re in the market for a Galaxy S4 or an HTC One. But the Moto G is £135: compared to its rivals at that price, it’s in another league. It would be easy to say the Moto G is not a device to excite geeks: that would be wrong. This is a phone that shows the potential for technology to get better and cheaper. And it’s also the phone to recommend to everyone on a budget, or to anyone who wants to enter the smartphone world for the first time. Dimensions 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6 mm Screen 4.5” Weight 143g Storage 8/16 GB, 1 GB RAM Processor Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 Camera Front-facing: 1.3MP Rear-facing: 5MP 10) Lumia 930 From £404 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02967/NOKIA_2967034c.jpg The Lumia 930’s camera is almost frighteningly good - at 20MP it eclipses almost every other rival. Its generous OLED screen gives colour a crisp edge and shades a deep contrast, and its metal frame and polycarbonate back lends it a reassuring heft. It’s let down slightly by the clunky and somewhat slow Windows interface and limited number of apps, but there’s no doubt it’s an excellent phone, and the most impressive Windows handset to date. Dimensions 137 x 71 x 9.8 mm Screen 5” Weight 167g Storage 32 GB, 2 GB RAM Processor Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 Camera Front-facing:1.2MP Rear-facing: 20MP And the best of the rest... • Note 4 https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03025/samsung_3025525c.jpg Samsung’s implemented its new design language for the Note 4, and that means this is a beautiful phone that is made of metal and glass rather than the plastic that many had become used to from the South Korean giant. There are improvements to the S-Pen stylus, and if a big screen is what you want this is the phablet to go for. • Z3 compact https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03065/xperiaz3_3065127c.jpg Many people still claim they want a small phone - think people pining for their iPhone 4. Most of those don’t know what they’re missing and when they find out are in fact loathe to go back. But if you really do want a small phone that makes no compromises the Z3 Compact is almost everything its larger sibling is in a smaller package. • OnePlus One https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02890/01_2890428c.jpg The OnePlus One is an oddity: this is an Android phone that runs ‘Cyanogen Mod’, a launcher usually installed by geeks and tinkerers who find Android isn’t flexible enough for their endless desire to change settings. That’s the appeal of this large, square device, but it’s also a very affordable top-of-the-line handset. If you can get your hands on the limited stock... • Moto X https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02633/MotoX_Black_2633660c.jpg Recently updated the new Moto X is a superb device that provides a pure Google experience with just the merest hint of Motorola’s additional software. That means plenty of voice interaction and use of gestures too, but the combination of great design and reasonable price make it an intriguing prospect. • iPhone 5s https://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02667/iPhone-5s_2667673c.jpg Apple’s previous iPhone remains an excellent device that copes perfectly well with the latest software. It may be missing Apple Pay and improvements to the camera, but the former is currently US only and the latter is an incremental improvement. If you want a smaller iPhone than the 6, this is the best on the market and now a bargain too. Mark Zuckerberg Today we announced the launch of Safety Check on Facebook. Over the last few years there have been many disasters and crises where people have turned to the Internet for help. Each time, we see people use Facebook to check on their loved ones and see if they're safe. Connecting with people is always valuable, but these are the moments when it matters most. Safety Check is our way of helping our community during natural disasters and gives you an easy and simple way to say you’re safe and check on all your friends and family in one place. It's meaningful to be in Tokyo to announce this because the great earthquake and tsunami a few years ago inspired us to build the first version of this for Japan. Now we're glad to have this ready to serve everyone in the world. Source: www.facebook.com/zuck ![]() |

Clash Between Nigerian Soldiers, Shiites: 12 Dead, Including Three Sons Of Zakzaky, Nursing Mother And ChildNigerian Shiite Muslims have stated that 10 of their members were killed by the Nigerian military earlier today as they staged a march in Zaria, Kaduna State to express sympathy with the plight of Palestinians in Gaza who are under constant bombardment by Israeli troops. The Shiites said a woman nursing a baby and two other women were among those killed, adding that six other members of the Islamic sect, including Mahmud Zakzaky, their leader’s son, were also shot dead. In addition, security agents arrested three sons of Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of the Shiite group. Moments ago, the spokesman of the sect alleged that Nigerian soldiers later shot two of the three children of Sheikh Zakzaky whom they had taken into detention. Ali Zakzaky sustained bullet wounds, now receiving treatment in the hospital Ibrahim Musa, editor of the sect’s publication, Almizan, said, “two children of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky have been shot dead while in custody of the soldiers that arrested them.” He added that the sect sent an ambulance to the army barracks to retrieve the sheik’s sons’ corpses, but the soldiers detained the ambulance and its occupants. If their account is true, then it brings to three the number of Sheikh Zakzaky's children killed by Nigerian security agents in today’s operation. Abdulhamid Bello, a spokesman for Mr. Zakzaky, disclosed the casualties and arrests in a statement he sent to our New York office. He described the military attack on the procession of Shiites as a clear abuse of power and violation of the fundamental rights of the sect members. Nigerian military authorities in Zaria and Abuja have issued no reaction on today’s bloody encounter. Three sons of El-Zakzaky murdered by Nigerian troops during a peaceful procession in Zaria Ahmad and Mamhud Zakzaky pictured here during a trip abroad Below is the official statement released by the Shiites: WE CONDEMN THE UNWARRANTED ATTACK ON MUSLIM BROTHERS IN ZARIA Friday 25-07-14 is a sad day, akin to a black Friday, in which some security agents of the federal republic of Nigeria, soldiers by the khaki they wore, gunned down, as at the time of writing this press release, 10 Innocent fasting Muslim brothers, who were peacefully voicing their discontent with the unfortunate massacre of Palestinians by Israel. Zaria residents are a witness to the peaceful nature of the procession which took off from Sabon Gari Jumaat mosque up to its termination point at Kofar Doka, Zaria City. Nobody was molested let alone his property. In fact the leader of the procession was delivering his speech, when some soldiers attacked the participants of the procession who were at PZ Junction in Zaria. In the ensuing melee, 10 people were killed by the soldiers, 40 were shot and now receiving treatment. And among the killed is a Muslim Sister together with her child on her back and the son of Sheikh Zakzaky, Mahmud Ibraheem Zakzaky. Also among those shot by the soldiers are two Muslim sisters. Not only that, the soldiers went away with 3 children of Sheikh Zakzaky, namely Ahmad, Hameed and Ali. As of now their whereabouts is still unknown. We vehemently condemn this vicious atrocity committed by the soldiers on us. Why should we be attacked? Who did we provoke during the peaceful procession? Who authorized this attack? Who participated in the attack among the soldiers? These are some of the questions the security operatives in the state need to answer us and the public. Also we demand the unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky's children in soldiers’ custody and other Muslim brothers they might be holding. And should anything happen to them, we will hold the authorities responsible! This is not the first peaceful procession carried out by Muslim brothers in Zaria. In fact due to its peaceful nature residents in Zaria don't consider it as an unusual event that calls for caution. Another proof of the peaceful nature of the procession is the fact that it was staged today in Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Potiskum, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, and many other towns in Northern Nigeria and all ended peacefully. So why should the one in Zaria be an exception? The authorities should explain. The casualty figures might increase, God willing we will keep the public informed of the Transgressor in Nigeria. SaharaReporters has just confirmed that Mahumd Ibraheem Zakzaky, the son of Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky, was among those gunned down by Nigerian soldiers in Zaria as a group held a rally in support of Palestinians on Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Mahmud Zakzaky and a few other demonstrators were killed in the shooting this evening in the ancient town of Zaria. In a statement issued by Ibrahim Musa, editor of the movement’s weekly magazine Almizan, and sent to the New York office of SaharaReporters, the Islamic group accused the military of killing several of its members with impunity. The statement also claimed that more than 40 other members sustained serious injuries. “Reports reaching our news desk now indicated that some soldiers of the Nigerian army have opened fire on the tail end of the Quds procession held after Jumaat prayers in Zaria, Kaduna State. The procession, which took off from Sabon Gari Jumaat Mosque, reached Kofar Doka peacefully with no incident. However some soldiers attacked the procession [at the] PZ junction in Zaria. “They shot Mahmud Ibraheem Zakzaky, but [his body] was taken away by the Muslim brothers. But several [other] Muslim brothers were shot by the security agents. “As at the time of writing this report, there is no confirmation on the number of Muslim brothers shot or killed by the soldiers, but our says say five people were killed. The Quds procession was held today peacefully in more than 10 Nigerian cities. Why the attack on the Zaria procession? Shiites embarking in Ashura “[The] latest report on the attack by soldiers on Quds peaceful procession is that ten Muslim brothers were gunned down by the soldiers, among them Mahmud Ibraheem Zakzaky, son of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, and a Muslim sister with her child on her back.
