After the 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Barcelona and a 2-0
home defeat at home to Atalanta, Roma fans decided to
embarrass their players by lining up the training ground with 7
crates of carrots weighing 50kg and banners in Italian
interpreted in English as ''Éat up, Rabbits''.
When security demanded the fans move out of the way,the fans
hung up the banner nearby and scattered the 50kg of carrots
underneath.
Roma F.C currently are fourth in the serie A table,four points off
leaders Napoli,with 29 goals scored in their 14matches so far,
and also second in their champions league group.

have the ability to break a game open at any moment for

President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ayo Fayose
of Ekiti state are in a war of words over the state of
Nigeria’s economy.
The Ekiti Governor was the first to fire the salvo when
he accused Mr. Buhari’s administration of paying out the
lowest-ever federally distributed allocations among the
three tiers of the government.
The Nigerian government had shared a little over N389
billion for the month of October to the three tiers of
government.
Mr. Fayose reacted to the low figure while speaking at
the graduation ceremony of College of Education, Ikere-
Ekiti, in which he asked Mr. Buhari to come clean to
Nigerians on the state of the economy.
Mr. Buhari reacted angrily to Mr. Fayose’s insinuations
by warning the governor to stop making unsubstantiated
allegations about the nation’s economy.
Mr. Buhari, who spoke through his media aide, Garba
Shehu, said Mr. Fayose’s comments were reckless, adding
that “the governor didn’t get his facts correct”.
Mr. Shehu also faulted Mr. Fayose’s claims that the N389
billion shared for the month October was the lowest ever
in the history of the country, saying the lowest ever
allocation to the three ties was issued by the Peoples
Democratic Party government of Goodluck Jonathan.
“Governor Fayose needs to be advised to desist from
spreading falsehood against the person and government
of President Muahmmadu Buhari as has become
characteristic of him. He needs to get his facts right
before making accusations of the nature he makes.
“The governor equally knows full well that his party in
government ruined the economy to the extent that
workers in 27 states went for several months without
salary. This crisis situation has now been reversed in
nearly all the states. Governor Fayose is himself in line
for the collection of his state’s bailout.
“Under the PDP federal government, ministries were not
given overhead costs for five months while the capital
budget was unpaid for six months in the run-up to the
exit of the PDP administration. Is there anyone in that
party with a moral justification to criticise the Buhari
administration which is working hard to clean up the
mess they (PDP) left behind?,” Mr. Shehu said.
However, Mr. Fayose also reacted angrily on Monday
saying he won’t let Mr. Buhari “take Nigeria back to
military era”.
He said the statement issued by Mr. Garba on behalf of
the president is a “demonstration of military dictatorshipr
mentality”.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Lere
Olayinka, the Ekiti governor said it was sad that the
presidency could be warning a Nigerian, who is heading
one of the country’s federating units on what to say and
what not to say.
“Governor Fayose will continue to say the truth in
interest Nigeria and its people because the Governor is
not one of those that will go underground because of
political persecution,” he said.
He also insisted that the country’s economy was in
serious recession, adding that; “the president himself
attested to this when he said that the country was broke
and this has also been corroborated by the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Group financial
report, indicating that the corporation incurred a total
loss of N120.07bn in the months of August and
September.
“JP Morgan is also removing Nigeria from its Emerging
Market Bond Index, a move analysts say would have far
reaching implications for the country’s dwindling
economy as investors could move their funds to
competing countries, resulting in higher lending rates,”
he said.
The governor also said top functionaries of the APC,
including state governors criticised the PDP government
of Mr. Jonathan, and the presidency did not go about
warning them.
“Certainly, these people working with the president need
to be purged of Acquired Immune Military Dictatorship
Syndrome, AIMDS, even as they must be told that
Governor Fayose won’t stop speaking his mind and
exposing their hypocrisy in the overall interest of Nigeria
and its people,” he said.

The World Bank has ranked Nigeria 169 out of 189 countries in its latest report on the ease of doing business globally. This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the Head of Communications, World Bank Nigeria, Mr Obadiah Tohomdet, on Tuesday in Abuja. According to the statement, the report takes into consideration the ease of obtaining construction permits, getting electricity, enforcing contracts, registering property and trading across borders among other parameters.
The report showed that Nigeria had improved in the ranking from 170 in 2014 to 169 in its 2015 report. It further showed that the Sub-Saharan African economies were among the world’s top improvers of business climate. “The region, however, ranks poorly in the areas of trading across borders and registering properties. “Mauritius ranks best in the region, with a global ranking of 32, performing particularly well in the areas of paying taxes and
enforcing contracts.
“In Mauritius, it takes only 152 hours for entrepreneurs to pay taxes, compared to 261 hours globally. “Rwanda has the next best ranking in the region, with a global ranking of 62. Ten years ago, an entrepreneur in Rwanda took 370 days to transfer property. Now, it takes 32 days which is less than in Germany, ” it stated.Also, Botswana ranked 72; South Africa 73; Seychelles 95; Kenya 108, and Uganda 122 this year.
According to the report, the Sub-Saharan African region stands out in implementing reforms under the Getting Credit indicator. It stated that this was a welcome development for small businesses in the region. “Despite great improvements, governments in Sub-Saharan Africa will need to continue working on closing the gap in many key areas that impact the ease of doing business, especially increasing access to reliable electricity.
“The region’s economies have room for improvement in the reliability of supply and transparency index of the getting electricity indicator and the quality of land administration index of the registering property indicator.”

The new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd) on Friday evening gave a clear warning that corrupt officers and men in the agency will be sent to jail.

He also said Customs Area Controllers, heads of units, departments will be accountable for infraction that has to do with false declaration, misapplication of the tariff, undervaluation and concealment.

Ali read the Riot Act at his meeting with all officers and men at the Customs Headquarters, in Abuja.

The meeting was a closed door session and the text of Ali’s address was kept under wraps because of the tension which enveloped the meeting.

Although there was panic among the top brass of the service, Ali said he will reward hard work in the same manner he will punish offenders.

He said: “Since I took over (Thursday), I have been receiving briefing notes to enhance my understanding of the Nigeria Customs Service. I have articulated some ideas to start with, and I have found it necessary to share these ideas with you. These ideas shall be the guiding principle and platform for a smooth takeoff.

“First and foremost, it is important that we know where we are going. We can start by ensuring that we pick up the mantle of Mr. President’s policy thrust. Therefore, in conjunction with you, moving with you and fighting with you we will fight corruption and restore discipline through attitudinal orientation for effective service delivery.

“However, I must stress this for emphasis. I will not tolerate indiscipline. I will not tolerate corruption. I have zero tolerance for corruption.

“Considering my military background, I believe punishment must be punitive for others to see it as a deterrent. Therefore, as an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, if you are caught involved in corruption, I am not only going to dismiss you, I will make sure I prosecute and jail you. That is basic!”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in
Washington DC warned close aides not to
smuggle anyone into his official meetings
with US officials.

breakfast meeting at his Blair House official digs
in Washington DC, telling them any infractions will
result with the person involved being fired with
immediate effect.
President Buhari told them the purpose of his
visit was not to meet with Nigerian businessmen

in the Diaspora.
