Cesc Fabregas has played down the contribution of Cristiano Ronaldo at the World Cup and said that Argentina's struggles are not all Lionel Messi's fault.

Writing in a column for BBC Sport, Fabregas, who was left out of Spain's squad for this summer's tournament, said that Ronaldo's four goals in two games, including a hat trick against La Roja, "have come from set-pieces, penalties or mistakes."

Fabregas also praised former Barcelona teammate Messi and bemoaned Argentina's lack of quality as they have drawn with Iceland and lost to Croatia putting them on the brink of an early World Cup exit.

"It was a similar story for Messi against Croatia, but it was not all his fault," Fabregas said. "As I said in my TV analysis after Argentina's defeat, they look like a broken team.

"So it is has been really difficult for him. He does not have the quality in behind him, when he needs someone who can help him build up the play."

Fabregas -- who played alongside Messi at Barcelona -- says his Ronaldo does not have to work as hard for the team and that explains why he has been able to flourish.

"These days, Cristiano Ronaldo has a very different role for Portugal -- he mainly stays up front and you no longer see him running all over the pitch," he added. "He is one of the big names in Russia who has made a strong start to this World Cup, in terms of goals, with four so far.

"Yes, he is playing well, but if you really look at what he has done, he has scored one penalty, one free kick, one goal from a corner and one with a shot that David De Gea should have saved. You cannot say that he and Portugal have shown great combinations or tiki-taka football to score great goals.

"You have to give him credit, of course, but his goals have come from set-pieces, penalties or mistakes."

Argentina must win their final group game against Nigeria on Tuesday to stand any chance of progressing to the knockout stages, while Portugal need just a point against Iran on Monday to advance.

Iran will be gracing the World Cup in the kit they qualified for it in, with the strip seen in September's playoff win over Syria also going to be the same one they'll be wearing in Russia.

Adidas seems to have given them, Sweden and Russia the thin end of the wedge though, as there were much nicer designs available.

With extra points for the ice cool video presentation, Iceland will arrive for their first ever World Cup not looking all that different from their Euro 2016 adventure, but different enough.

The white, almost frosty quality on the shoulders is a nice touch, and will add something extra to those thunder claps that are going to echo all around Russia.

The gold numbering and lettering might well have been a suggestion from Cristiano Ronaldo himself, but seeing as they are the reigning European champions then we'll let them get away with it.

In fact, it's SO much of a Brazil kit that Nike's designers apparently went to the Football Museum in Sao Paulo and created a yellow which exactly matches the yellow worn at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, when they were really rather good.

No pressure there then, Neymar.

10. Argentina
It's alright. Actually it's better than alright. It's an Argentina kit, so it'd be hard for it not to be alright.

All a bit paint by numbers though.

The kit sported by Mohamed Salah and company this summer deserves to be a hit, and there's something about the check pattern on the shirt which makes it so.

It's bit different, and that is to be applauded.

The collar looks nice, and the more simplistic design fits in well with the placement of the number.

Should be a winner, even if the team aren't.

7. France

Not veering too far away from traditional French kits, but does it need to? Of course not.

Would maybe be higher if they'd stuck their neck out and gone all blue. But we're fans. Solid top 10 kit.

6. Germany

As with the rest of this batch of Adidas kits, there is something of a pleasingly retro look to the number Germany will be wearing in Russia.

And it suits them, doesn't it?

England will be fearing these shirts in the summer, and they are right to be both as intimidated and afraid as they're bound to be.

Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has tonight celebrated the birth of his fourth child - just hours after a reality TV star claimed he cheated on his girlfriend with her.

The 32-year-old uploaded a photograph of his girlfriend Georgina Rodriquez, 22, holding their baby daughter next to him and his eldest son, Cristiano Jr.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has informed his teammates and friends that he is joining Manchester United in the January transfer window according to several reports in England.

Ozil’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the current season and talks over an extension have since broken down.

His relationship with Arsene Wenger has also broken down and a reunion with Jose Mourinho whom he worked with at Real Madrid is exciting for the German.

Arsenal are said to be looking for a buyer for the Germany international when the transfer window re-opens in January to rule out the prospect of losing him for nothing in the summer.
