Ibime:he is worth more than 5 million because blackpool believe that the risk to their survival is worth at least a little over 10 million. blackpool actually pay him 8k, dj campbell earns 10k and he is the highest in blackpool. they have a right to be obdurate because he has a contract that still has 18 months to run. liverpool can offer him 50k but if they can't pay the asking price, it makes no difference. more than his failure in scotland what is really putting a downward pressure on his price is the fact that charlie does not seem suited to play for a big team with lots of aspirations.blackpool are set up to play to his strengths.i doubt any top team will be willing to set up play to revolve around Charlie. i am tired of this Charlie talk, i need a fix this evening.some good footie will do me good. |
frosbel:this interpretation is faulty and incorrect. So you don't work with unbelievers? you don't live in the same compound with them? what does a pastor not have with worldly affairs? Is he an alien? is he not a human being? the important matter is that he must not let darkness overcome the light of God in him. you must not mix the light of God with the darkness of satan. That is where darkness and light have nothing in common. Afterall he is in the world, the important issue is that he must not be of it (his thinking must not be influenced by the world system). Bakare has not broken any scripture by his choice. Whether he is able to maintain his confession of faith is another matter. The average Nigerian has some warped sense of the pastorate. That is why they are easily scammed by fraudsters. |

By Ifedayo Adebayo Tunde Bakare is the pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly Lagos, a human rights activist and the coordinator of Save Nigeria Group. He was yesterday named the running mate for former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, under the party, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). In an interview with NEXT, Mr. Bakare talks about how he has gone from staging street protests to vice presidential candidate. Why did you accept to run with Muhammadu Buhari? If you understand my passion for this country, demonstrated over the years, I want to see a Nigeria that works in my lifetime and that was one of the motivations that started the Save Nigeria Group. In all my ministerial life, maybe three quarters of my messages are all on Nigeria and what is happening to the country at large. In October last year, after meeting so many political gladiators, some of them are now party candidates. I came across so many of them, and I can say today that so far, one of them that I have found worthy in terms of credibility is Buhari. He needs to just build bridges with others so that we can win this election. All the time I was doing that, I never knew that I was going to take part in the political process other than just mobilizing people to vote in the 2011 elections, but all I know is that he wants me and when he made the call to ask me if I would consider running with him, I made consultations, and at the end of the day, I felt this is one way to contribute to the future of my country. Before he called you, did you ever contemplate seeking an elective post or going into politics? Not in 2010, not in 2011. I never considered running for any offices. As a matter of fact, in all that you have been reading or listening to, I said so that I am not going to take part in the political process other than mobilize the people. So it was his call that led to your change of mind? Well, I think so, and because of the situation in my country. Whether one person is running or the other person is running, I think that all Nigerians should be running. I am being modest. I think that all Nigerians should wake up and rise up now to do what is right. Critics are saying that religious leaders should not go into politics. What do you say to them? In Romans 13, the Bible says that every authority that exists is ordained by God and he calls those in government, ministers of God almighty. So ministry is not limited to the pulpit. Ministry is whatever you are doing to serve God and humanity. How will your involvement in politics affect your ministry? Every man has his own shoes. Latter Rain Assembly is not a personality call, neither is it Tunde Bakare’s property. There have been others ministering at the same time I have been ministering. I am just the overseer and not the owner and founder. Jesus founded the church and people serve in the church. So there will never be conflict between what I am doing and the church. President Goodluck Jonathan is enjoying an incumbent’s privilege. does that worry you? Well, as a matter of fact, President Jonathan himself is a child of necessity. It is the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua that brought him into the office and I respect that office, and the truth is if Nigerians are not troubled and Nigerians are getting what they should get, nobody would even be thinking of contesting an election against him. I know there are professional politicians who seize every four years for them to rise up, but if someone is doing a good job, running against such a person is a vision stud. You will lose everything, including your resources and efforts. But right now, the cry of an average Nigerian is ‘anything but PDP’, but we are not just going to replace them with just anybody. We need to get credible people and we will move this nation forward and pull it from the brinks. Do you mean that Nigerians deserve more than what the present government is giving? Exactly. Even looking [at the past] 50 years, Nigerians deserve better. What agenda do you have for Nigerians, and why do you think they should vote for you? The issue of manifesto will be made public by the party very soon. It is being worked upon, but I am sure that we are not going to make promises we can’t deliver. We will have action programs and timelines for the delivery. By the time these plans are concluded, I am sure we wil have a press conference through which we will let Nigerians know all these. As vice president of Nigeria, what should people expect? They should expect that their interests will be uppermost in my heart and in the heart of General Buhari and in the heart of CPC. This country has potential and it time to turn that potential into serious energy and transformation. Just a few months into its establishment, how far do you think CPC can go in this coming election? Seeing PDP as an agent of oppression, every other party is trying to spread to the length and breadth of the country. One thing we must remember is that as a people, we don’t learn from history. We are very quick in forgetting history. Action Group won the Western region election within six months of formation, so with a lot of hard work and a lot of critical planning and creative strategy, CPC can easily win this election because people are tired of PDP. Can CPC break ACN’s grip on the Southwest? The word used is most attracting, you said ‘grip’. If anybody grips your neck, is that a good thing? So we need to break that grip and let the Southwest be free. I acknowledged all that has been working before, but the time has come to enlarge our coast and to let our people choose who they really want to represent them. Does this announcement mean the end of alliance talks with ACN? It shouldn’t be, under normal circumstances, because when General [Buhari] was chosen as the CPC candidate, it is normal to choose who his vice or running mate will be. He has made that choice and that does not stop the alliance talks, just as the talks surrounding the alliance does not stop the ACN from chosing their own presidential candidates. It is part of the talk that has been on before that time and what is good for the goose should be good for the gander. It shouldn’t destroy the alliance if all we have been talking about is not just winning an election, but pulling Nigeria from the brim and getting it to its best. I am still of the opinion that all the parties can still work together to deliver Nigeria from going into utter ruin. Was the Save Nigeria group created for the purpose of Buhari's presidency as it has been speculated? Well, you can do some investigation yourself, because now you want me to be a judge in my own court. At the time Save Nigeria Group began, it was to address a major and vital issue — the issue of power hijack. Those who were not elected to serve in the office of the presidency of the country were exercising the authority to do what they liked. It was the health issue that took President Yar’Adua away that brought us into the streets. It was not PDP or CPC that took us to the streets. It was after that time that we now began to start thinking of 2011 to be the year of the voters and the year that our citizenship must be enlightened; social mobility must be restored and sovereignty must be the lot of our people. We must choose the best, the most competent and the country people must be free to express themselves at the polls. That was the purpose for the SNG; it has nothing to do with this party or that party and it has never teamed up with any political party. What impact do you think that your political interests will now have on the group? The group will select new officers, because before now — let’s face the reality — prominent faces and names you can link with SNG included Prof. Wole Soyinka. Femi Falana and so on and so forth. Femi Falana is the national chairman of National Conscience. Wole Soyinka is the chairperson of the board of another party. Amongst us are professional politicians and those who have political interests. At no time has SNG said that these people cannot express themselves, especially at election time to choose or to participate in the process so that they can be voted for. So SNG will still remain an organ like a watchdog to ensure democratic values in our political culture. Many believe that Buhari is a religious fanatic. How do you see him? I have had the privilege of sitting with him, to see his environment, to see what he does. He relates with all kinds of people from different backgrounds, different walks of life and different religious persuasions. To be fair to him, yes, he is a good muslim. As you know, by God’s grace, I am also a practising Christian and if such a man can say today that he is appointing a pastor to be his running mate, does that not confirm he is not? So that is it. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5670749-146/there_will_never_be_conflict_between.csp |
StarBoard:dude, you cannot justify any transfer price. This market is not for the rational. If Carrol can go for 35 mil after scoring like half a dozen goals and playing less than 20 matches in the EPL, then the world has gone nuts. If Anderson was bought for almost 20 million, then Charlie might be worth 16, you know. He is a good footballer and secondly Holloway (and the board) has a right to quote any price they want, he is under contract. Liverpool offered 10 million at 8pm yesterday and they don't it down. they are not bluffing, it is simply the value they place in him. at the end of the season he will probably go for 2 or 3 million or go for even less in the winter as he has 18 months left on his contrct but right now he is worth 16 million to Blackpool. Even in the insane world of football economics, it make a little sense. |
folks forget it. there will be no tv debate. even amongst thieves there is some semblance of honour. you and i are being taken for a ride. In sane places, the kind of atrocities Cecelia and Erastus committed under Soludo would have been enough for the prof to commit suicide. Meanwhile he is busy writing epistles and pontificating up and down. As for Aganga, i used to trust him until i saw his performance at the senate during that Sanusi issue at the senate. |
Ibime:i owe you a chilled bottle of Grand lager. this comment of yours is the end of discussion QED. |

StarBoard:He said he was off to hand in his resignation but his boss turned it down flatly. I am no fan of Holloway but you will struggle to find two managers in the premiership who are more straight forward than he is. I do not believe Holloway but i will rather believe him than almost all the managers in the premiership bar probably one or two. Shouting at every given opportunity?Charlie Adam has handed a transfer request, you know that, don't you? there has been over three bids for him, you know? No one has bid for Dan,so why should Eck tout him around? If Bebe is worth 9million, then Charlie is worth 16million and more. btw, i do not believe that any footballer is worth all these silly amounts but singling out Charlie is ridiculous, considering that his talent is obvious to all. I will rather argue about how folks like Anderson were bought for 20+ million without the folks who approved such buys not earning a jail term without option of bail or even parole. That is a crime against decency, you know! |
As much as i admire Charlie, this is the reason why i don't think we should buy him. He is slow, he even looks (comparatively) unfit. He has only just turned 25 but looks, and plays, like a ball playing veteren pro from the late eighties coming to the end of his career and who wants to play the game his way from now on. And it suits Blackpool, like many clubs who relied on these stars in the past, and why it may not suit him or any other club he might join to further their respective ambitions. He should play without restriction and it is hard to find any club that would allow that, especially those at the very top or have designs to get there. However the boy is good,no doubt about that. |
Ibime:I am not even asking for United to buy him but you need to hear what even Rangers fans thought about him; Take Rangers fansite's description of a player their fans wish they'd have given a second chance to: "Charlie is a ball player, and footballers blessed with this kind of gift are rarely troubled by "pressure". They are comfortable with the ball; they release it when they are ready to, not when panic-ridden fans urge them to, and they step up to the plate when lesser mortals don't want to know. "They have no fear of possession: they eagerly seek it. Being in the spotlight and taking responsibility is where they live. If pressure troubled them, the ball would be a hot potato rather than the means to display their artistry. "Adam has little in the way of pace, but players with genuine ability have never required this attribute. A keen football brain, an astute touch, a powerful shot, innate vision, a tough tackle, a slide-rule pass and an ability to have an ongoing positive involvement in the game make this player a gem amongst the stones." http://www.followfollow.com |
StarBoard:kindly remind me the lofty things Bebe did? My memory is a bit slow at present. |
i said this midfield needs a massive reconstruction and some folks said it is just minor reinforcement, well i still dey watch. whoever gave Anderson a new contract ought to be fired. |
^^^^^ how about comparing the CEO with Jega? both were appointed, you know? |
texazzpete:so why the insults? it makes you sound very childish. who expects Jega to be everywhere? When did i claim he is Omnipresent? The whole exercise has been poorly planned and executed. That is the crux of the matter and that is down to no one else but jega. things like police using horse whips on people and the cards being sold are not jega's fault and those are not the crux of the matter. if this process had been properly planned and executed, you would not need 8 hours to register. I am not a fan of the tunisia style but the lack of hope in the system makes such options look attractive despite the imagined futility of its end (in our case). You can never guarantee the option a hopeless people will take. weeks ago no one could bet such was possible in the arab world. |
Ribadu should go and address the total lack of internal democracy in his party before making noise in public. To believe we expected ACN to help us get ride of these thieving cabal called PDP, i just tire!!! |
Finally registered yesterday after four tries. unfortunately i doubt it will make a difference. The level of Jega's ineptitude makes me wonder if he can organise a piss up in a brewery. The registration process is so messed up that i wonder how he can organise an election in April. The enthusiasm of the populates is heart wrenching. men and women are giving up their sources of livelihood for hours, queuing in the sun and verbally abused simply because they want their voices to be heard. Jega seems oblivious of these and is stumbling around in the dark. If this election does not count, then Tunisia style might not be very far off. |
Gbawe:it is not like ACN is any better. all these consensus candidate thing is worse than even the crap primaries in PDP. the internal democracy in ACN is a proof that ACN will likely be worse than PDP if they win the centre. |
switched from starcomms to multilinks. Not much difference but i could no longer put up with the c rap customer service from starcomms. it was dreadful. Multilinks will be sold soon, i wonder what will be of the network then. it all depends on location, anyway. |
dayokanu:i need the Holy Ghost to appear to me in bodily form to enable me do buying and selling in Nigeria. to buy no hard, when it is time to pay, puff puff turns to buns. It is not for the faint hearted. |
ACN is competing with PDP to see whose internal democracy sucks more. |
http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/alliance-talks-collapse/85442/ In the meantime, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), personal lawyer and associate of the presidential candidate of the CPC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has resigned his membership of the party, citing lack of internal democracy. Ahamba, who played a key role in the formation of the party, announced his resignation from the party and withdrawal from partisan politics at a press briefing in Abuja yesterday. According to him, he decided to quit the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and join in founding the CPC because of differences within the leadership of ANPP. "Faced with irreconcilable differences with the leadership of the ANPP, I and others presumed to be of like minds left the ANPP to form the CPC. "In forming the CPC, the ideas were lofty, the expectations high and the objective unambiguous. Most of us believed that at last Nigeria would witness an ideologically-based party," he said. Ahamba added that they formed the CPC believing that internal democracy was possible. According to him, it is only when a party is able to manage its internal democracy that it can hope to instil same in the national polity. "But unfortunately, the presumption of discipline, integrity and transparency as the foundation of the party has been largely rebutted and the whole objective betrayed,” he declared. Ahamba said that after considering the extensive departure from the original set goals and having critically evaluated the events within the party in recent times, he decided to resign from active politics effective January 25, 2011. "I have stepped aside from active politics and returned to my law chambers in the absolute sense," he said. Ahamba noted that he felt betrayed as his intension to run for the chairmanship position of the party was thwarted by the leadership of the party, which had on the eve of the national convention of the party zoned out the position of the national chairman of the party from the South-east. He said that there were no personal misgivings between him and Buhari. |
T he proposed alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has collapsed, THISDAY can report today. This followed the inability of both parties to reach a final agreement on common candidacy for the presidential poll. ACN leaders, including Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, are pushing for the party’s candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to be the candidate of the alliance, but CPC leaders believe Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has a greater chance of defeating President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential poll. ACN leaders are canvassing that Buhari, as the older of the two, former head of state and member of the Council of State, “should give way to a member of the new generation to lead the country”. “Buhari is 69 years old and will still be ruling Nigeria in his 70s if he wins the election,” a senior party official told THISDAY last night. “It is more advisable for him to support a younger person. He should hold Ribadu’s hand and endorse him for the polls. Ribadu is just 50 years old.” Already, Ribadu is making quiet negotiations across the country in an effort to build what he calls “a team of champions”, hoping to benefit from the fallouts from the PDP primaries. He is also working on forming “a coalition of reformists”, including Mallam Nasir el-Rufai and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to draw up a new vision for Nigeria. ACN yesterday said it was “ready, able and willing” to form the next central government, a statement interpreted to mean the party would go alone. The new posture of ACN came on the heels of an apparent twist in the alliance talks taking place in Abuja without any further progress. The two parties had earlier agreed in principle to field Buhari as their joint presidential candidate but at the rescheduled meeting meant to formalise the pact and to pick his running mate in Abuja, the parties could not decide on who the vice-presidential candidate would be. One of the knotty issues was the platform on which Buhari would run, with ACN pushing for its own platform, while CPC was worried that the Chief Bisi Akande-led party was not a household name in the North and this could affect the fortune of Buhari in the election. THISDAY gathered that there was an initial setback when representatives of the two parties could not easily agree on modalities for pushing ahead with the joint presidential candidacy, but rather had to roll back negotiations on virtually all the areas that had been covered. According to the scheduled meeting plan, both parties were to have rounded off their talks by yesterday during which they were to brief members of the public on the outcome. But by late evening yesterday when the meeting came to a close, there was still no concrete resolution on most of the key issues. However, a member of ACN told THISDAY last night that the delay in wrapping up the talks was a deliberate ploy by the parties to keep their opponents guessing till the last minute. He said since INEC had granted all parties up till Saturday to submit their candidates for the elections, the alliance parties would want to throw in a joker by announcing their position on the last day. Meanwhile, apparently worried by the impact the prolonged alliance talks were bound to have on the minds of the electorate, ACN yesterday debunked insinuations that it was shying away from contesting the presidency on its own. In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, he said a newspaper headline to the effect that it was not keen about winning the 2011 presidential election took the comments he made in an interview in Ilorin, Kwara State, out of context. ''Our party, which has been growing in leaps and bounds, is undoubtedly the most prepared to offer Nigeria the leadership it so desperately needs at this time to move to greater heights. It is therefore untrue that we are not ready to contest and win the presidential election in April,'' he said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/alliance-talks-collapse/85442/ |
