Politics › Re: Voter Registration. . . Jega Asks For Another N6.6bn by mbulela: 12:19pm On Jan 27, 2011
we need to address this question once and for all;
Is this man corrupt or inept?

Today is the fourth day i have tried to register, on the basis that the 'guy in charge' knows me, i was asked to come back around 4pm and get a number in the queue for tomorrow.the gate was locked and only those who got numbers yesterday were allowed in.loads of people were outside the gate begging to be allowed in to vote.even one lady who had a number yesterday but went to report in the office before returning to register was locked out and she was almost crying while begging to be allowed in.Since 8am only 20 people have being registered and all 20 were at the center yesterday.

There is something inherently wrong with this exercise.
I am tired of hearing this man's demands, just give him the keys to CBN vault and give us a break.
Iwu must be sipping champagne wherever he is now.

At a time when intelligent men and women are complaining that the cost of governance is becoming too outrageous this man goes and solidifies his 'business as usual' attitude
we need ministries reduced, executive and special assistants scrapped not multiplied.
the cost of governance is almost matching the sheer size of corruption and both are having an equal effect on the masses.
At a time when governments all over are reducing the size of government in view of present day economic realities, our state governors have 100 special aides.
We are doomed as a people.
I will spill blood if need be to be registered and i will vote, if only to have a clear conscience against this ineptitude that is being fostered on us.

While this is on, Jega wants to empty the national treasury in the name of voters registration.
this nation is in a 'one chance' bus speeding to hell.

why is this thread duplicated and why are both on the home page?
Are there no moderators on this forum?
or is everything here now on autopilot?

one correction;
one way buka style will work is if you get a spot in a campus cafeteria.
the indian delis do it and it works for most of them.
cost is low and market is assured.

Thank you very much for this advise. But in a situation where I dont know anything about a salon biz.Do u have any idea about starting up an Africa restaurant with strictly naija food with less pepper of course.Because I know some of my white friends who visit me love okro when mixed with stew and eaten with Semolina. Most ask for that whenever they plan to come for dinner
this is the easiest idea that Nigerians and blacks have considered in Aussie.
yet it has failed repeatedly.
the reasons are these;
the black community is not affluent enough to form a base from which to launch an african restaurant and attract other races.
2ndly, the distance from africa is too far to enable you source african ingredients at a rate where economies of scale will make a difference to your cost structure.
3rdly resturant biz is big in Australia,so you almost have to start big to break even.

Do not be dismayed,it is possible but it is not as easy as it looks as many have gone that route unprepared.

Your white friends will love to eat Nigerian food but it would have to be in a classy restaurant as eating out is a major part of their daily living there.
a buka will not work.

Good o! I beg not just Nigeria,it should accommodate all Nigerians planning to start business anywhere in the world, because I am in Australia and truely need to start my own stuff too.
hair salon is a profitable business that most blacks have not explored in Australia.
Their is paucity of salons (either male or female) that cater for black hair.
research a good location with concentration of blacks, charge low (as you would be competing against non consumption initially),make it exclusive (black hair only), make sure the hair service is very good but do not add unnecessary extras for a start and grow from there.

don't consider any import/export business.
the distance is a huge disadvantage and ancillary services are not as common as in europe/naija axis.

also, remember that the black community is not as affluent as you have in europe or america.

To start with, this story is stale. The FBI got White house approval to arrest him in early 2007 and his picture was put Second next to Osama Bin Laden (bn the no. 1 most wanted), a little girl that was missing (bn the 2 most wanted) and Tobechukwu Onwuhara (No 3). He was on the list throu-out 2008, dunno about now.

The amount as disclosed by FBI was in hundreds of billions. As at the time our local authorities heard, EFCC froze his accounts with all Nigerian banks. As this time, I was working in a bank our review showed that he cleared his account (by way of transfer to another bank) which had 8bn a week before he was declared missing.

His last known address was a house in VGC and he has loads of nigerians working for him and he was a toast of marketers (bank deposit agents).

FBI can neva catch this guy! I stand to be corrected.
are you sure of the bold part?

or
this is one hell of an intelligent dude we are reading about.

that final get away story seems too good to be true.

this is old gist.
everyone knows that federal and state civil services are the most corrupt agencies (parasatals) in Nigeria without exception.
a lawyer who deals with one of the ministries was telling me of deputy directors who own estates.
meanwhile there attitude to work is shameful to say the least.
go for weekend on thursday afternoons and return on monday afternoon or Tuesday (if a director and above).
We have not even talked about the over bloated workforce.
one person opening a file, another signing it and another passing it to the next room.
the political will needed to reform civil service in this country is almost impossible to muster.

As pessimistic as i am about Nigeria, i do not think that Jega is corrupt. However with the massive queues i am seeing around me i am begin to question his competency.I have tried to register for the third day running at different venues around me without success.
Inec seems to put the public in so much dark that room is created for rumours that undermine the whole electoral process.
This whole process seems so poorly thought out and i wonder if there could not have been an easier (and probably less expensive) process getting this done.
Whatever it takes, prof jega must get it right o!
this democracy is beginning to get too expensive o!

This country is currently running on auto-pilot (apart from our foreign reserves and ECA that are being actively decimated).
Whatever you do during this coming elections, vote against business as usual and a continued decadence that currently prevails in the political space.
vote for a change in the right direction, no matter how small that change.
We just cannot continue like this as a nation.
we need someone who can initiate change that even the blind can see.
Not change that we need spin doctors to evangelize about.
we as a people are not asking for too much, we just want a step away from the past and the present (one and the same).
We are being led into an abyss and sycophants and men/women whose short sightedness is beclouded by their personal gains are telling us that all is well.
All is not well o!

Our players don't have to leave, we just need to inject the central midfield with a DM and one playmaker. We'll be fine if we do this
that is not very true, you can't just add two or three player like you said without ejecting a few.
also bear in mind that Welbeck and cleverly are coming back in the summer.
we are not citeh, who collect players for fun.

'Negotiations will also begin with Fletcher's advisers about a new deal for the Scotland captain. Dimitar Berbatov, the striker, Park Ji Sung, the midfield player, and John O'Shea, the defender, turn 30 in the next few months and United are thought to be happy to wait until the end of the season to address their futures, with all of them eager to stay at the club.'

Erm,I hate to disagree with you on the above.
Finances? The only finances people tend to look at is the debt (brought upon by the club's purchase by the Glazers),but no one is talking about the fact that United makes more profit than most clubs in the world.I feel Fergie can force the board or whoever is there to free cash if he so desires.
It's obvious cash will not flow as freely as it should given the debt, but I don't really think it's gotten so bad that Fergie cant afford 15million quid plus for a decent player.Besdies, these days, the transfer market is insane.Imagine Darren Bent going for upwards of 20 million.
And for the record, while you may have a point on managers having fingers burnt,Veron was at the time of his signing the costliest player in Britain. That has to be at the back of anybody's mind while looking for talent.
i appreciate your points.
however, the debt issue is a massive one.
it entails that united need to maintain the level of success to finance the debt.
the club is massively profitable but was not with the debt burden until the recent past.
it rarely can be more successful than it is.
the problem about the Glazers is that little of their money is involved, so the club has to remain successful to service its debts and you need to spend (big) to be very successful.
There are no two ways about it in the modern game.it stinks but that is the truth.
you complain about Bent, how about Anderson?how about Bebe?how about Carrick?
I am not just complaining about their abilities but the insane prices they cost.
Fergie has no reason to complain about the market.
He is a principal player there.

Dude, not so sure on the above.I think Fergie isn't ready to spend, based on his experience with people like Veron and Kleberson.
And if i may ask, what do you mean by re-organisation?
By reorganisation i mean retaining two of the present lot and add two or three class acts.

Fergie is ready to spend but the club is not able to compete at that level any longer.
the truth is obvious if you take a critical look at the finances of the club.
The excuse of veron and kleberson just do not watch.
you can't get it right all the time at the top.
show me one top manager who has not gotten his hands burnt in the past?
the fact is that this midfield needs massive injection of cash.there is no two ways about it.
