According to the Country Representative of WaterAid in Nigeria, Michael Ojo, “About 63.6 million people in Nigeria do not have access to safe drinking water, while 103 million do not have access to sanitation”. In virtually all urban Nigerian cities, it has now become a routine to see most women and children roaming the streets in search for clean water. Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, is not left out in this menace and it seem it is even worse in the rock city. Residents of the city are always in search of water and when they don’t see, they make do with water from different unhealthy sources. Naij.com photographer went round the city and brought back pictures of women and children hustling for water. See more pictures below:- Last year, two children of the same parents drowned in a pond at Enwugba village in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi state when they went to the pond to draw

Lmao, someone here says if you didn’t spend these notes then you shouldn’t be on the internet. Lol smh.. For those who spent them, what do they remind you of? Good old days I guess. I remember we could use that N10 to buy 7up, buy sweets, buy biscuits and still have some change left in the 90s. I was pretty young but I can still remember a little. For people who would want to form and say Ladun you are old, taaar don’t bring that ‘formness’ here at all, I was born in the 80’s and yes I spent them. Lol.

The Oba of Lagos, Chief Rilwan Akiolu, has finally issued a personal statement regarding his recent outburst where he threatened any Igbo who dared vote against his candidate with drowning in The Lagos Lagoon. The Outburst, which made waves on the internet yesterday, where the Oba threatened that igbos saying “if you don’t vote Ambode that i picked, you will all drown in the water”, has not gone down well with a lot of people in the country. But in a recent turn of events, the Oba has issued an apology to the Igbos and everyone offended by his tirade, blaming his actions on the popular Alcoholic drink, ORIJIN.’ In his statement, he said; “I want to offer my unequivocal apologies to the Igbo people for the things I said. I am sorry. I was drunk. I was drinking some Orijin just before the meeting. It was my 1st time, it was so sweet, I did not know it would be so intoxicating. I have ordered that all Orijin Bottles and Cans should be thrown into the Lagoon Instead”. Meanwhile, Boys in Lagos are planning to protest the Oba’s move to throw all the Orijin into the Lagoon. They have paid a Twitter Trender to trend the Hashtag #DontDrownOurOrijin. www.amazonherald.com/news/oba-of-lagos-confesses-i-was-high-on-orijin |

I think the Oba should quickly hold a press conference and make amendments. Some people helped GMB earn more votes through their comments on GEJ and PDP. Ambode, Fashola and Tinubu should meet the Oba asap and discuss how the Oba will make public declaration and correct the statement. I know it is not easy for any of Ambode, Fashola or Tinubu to go on air now and disgrace the Oba but they should quickly do the needful to ensure votes are not lost through this action. This may even have multiplier effect on other Yoruba states where governorship elections will be held because many people believe that APC is Yoruba/Hausa party. God bless Nigeria with more peace and success. |
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised not to discriminate against any tribe if he is voted into office, a statement on Monday said. Ambode was quoted as saying this barely a day after the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, reportedly threatened the Igbo voters in the state to either vote for Ambode on Saturday or be drowned. The APC candidate, while receiving 20 buses from a group, Nigeria Progressive Ambassadors, in Lagos, said, “Every group in Lagos is safe in my hands as governor. I will not discriminate against any religious or ethnic group. It is our Lagos and we must build it together. “In my acceptance speech after the primaries I made this note that I will be a governor for all and Lagos is safe in my hands. I want to build on the foundation of unity, peace and progress and development laid by my predecessors. “I am your best choice for a Lagos that must continue to thrive. And though tongue and tribe may differ we stand in brotherhood in Lagos from the smallest ethnic groups to the major ones. We are all stakeholders”. General Secretary of the NPA, Miss Vuakpor Ojo, who spoke for the group, said members were made up of young persons who strongly believe in the future of Lagos and the country as a whole. Ojo said, “We are body of forward-thinking Nigerians who are ready to partner with people who have the ability to give an enabling future to this state and sustain its excellence”. “You are one of us, and these donation of 20 buses depicts our commitment to the cause to make a detribalised leader like you, who understands the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, govern the state starting May 29. www.punchng.com/news/i-wont-discriminate-against-any-tribe-ambode-2/ |
The wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has not been seen in public since President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election to Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress. The President had last Tuesday conceded defeat and called Buhari on the telephone when it became clear from the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission that he had lost his re-election bid. Some dignitaries including serving and former government officials had visited Jonathan to commend him for conceding defeat and solidarise with him on his loss. One of the visitors had told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan also received visitors inside the President’s official residence same day. “After meeting the President in the new Banquet Hall located within the premised of his office, I also visited the First Lady inside the President’s residence before leaving. She was in high spirit when I met her,” the former government official said. But since then, the President’s wife had not been seen in public. He did not attend the Good Friday service held inside the Aso Villa Chapel with her husband neither did she attend the Easter Sunday service inside the same chapel. Mrs. Jonathan and the President’s mother, Eunice, had always been accompanying Jonathan to such services. The last time she was seen in public was penultimate Saturday when she and her husband voted at their polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa State. While many believed however that she must have been too devastated by her husband’s electoral loss to appear in public so soon, our correspondent’s investigation however showed that Mrs. Jonathan might have travelled out of the country. A Presidency source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan travelled to the United Kingdom during the week to sort out some domestic issues. “She is in UK. She may use the opportunity of the trip to visit her children,” the source said. President’s wife would come back to the country. Mrs. Jonathan’s spokesman, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, did not pick the calls made to his mobile telephone line on Monday. Adewuyi did not also reply a text message sent to him on the mater. It will be recalled that Mrs. Jonathan had during one of the presidential rallies she organised ahead of the elections claimed that Buhari would send her to jail if he was elected. www.punchng.com/news/presidency-silent-on-patience-jonathans-whereabouts/ |

A former spokesman for four United States Ambassadors to the United Nations, Richard Grenell, has said that if former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, emerges as the next president of Nigeria in next Saturday’s elections, it would be a disaster for the entire African continent. Grenell, who made the declaration in a piece titled: Nigeria on the brink, and which was published in theWashington Times,a US based publication, of Thursday, March 19, 2015, described Buhari as working tirelessly to enthrone Sharia law across the country, which he said would further pose a major challenge to the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the continent at large. He said, “Western foreign policy observers pre-occupied with the rise of ISIS in the Middle East should wake up to the reality unfolding in Nigeria. Opposition candidate General Buhari wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria. In fact, he wants it everywhere. “Is this an indication that Buhari supports violence because the end goal of the terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria and Africa is an Islamic state? It is a legitimate question that should be asked by leaders of the Obama administration. “Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance and support to ISIS. The Northern Nigerian based Islamic terrorist group wants Sharia law throughout the country and beyond. They are also actively terrorising Chad, Niger and Cameroon with their goal of an Islamic state. “Buhari has also spoken sympathetically about members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, has cautioned against a rush to judgement on its members and has personally been selected by the terrorist group to lead its negotiations with the Government of Nigeria. “Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa. It would also signal trouble for the West’s fight against ISIS and terrorism throughout the Middle East.” According to Grenell, incumbent president and Buhari’s main rival at next Saturday’s election, Goodluck Jonathan has made commendable inroads in strangling Boko Haram to submission in recent weeks and so deserves the support of the Barack Obama led United States administration and the rest of the world. “The Nigerian economy has been growing faster than South Africa’s. Imagine what Nigeria could do for Africa if it was also free of Boko Haram’s violence. The Obama Administration should be doing more to ensure Africa’s most populous country doesn’t slip away,” he said. Speaking further, Grenell said that with the election in Israel over, the West must quickly turn its attention to Nigeria where the outcome of next Saturday’s presidential elections could have a profound impact on the future of Africa. “Islamic radicals have Africa on their target list and young Nigerians are reported to be interested in ISIS’ messages. Nigeria is at a tipping point. The West, and specifically the Obama Administration, needs to wake up to the growing problem,” he said. In October 2014 during an interview with TheCable, an online news platform, Buhari had said that he was not a religious fundamentalist or extremist as his opponents had alleged and that all those trying to hang such malicious tag on him were merely attempting to demonise and tarnish his image. “Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians. In 2003, I chose Chuba Okadigbo as my running mate. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. In 2007, I picked Edwin Ume-Ezeoke. He was a Roman Catholic. He was an Igbo. And in 2010, I chose even a pastor, Pastor Tunde Bakare. “Honestly, what do Nigerians want me to do? If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do? The era of short-changing people in the name of religion should stop,” he had said. www.punchng.com/news/electing-buhari-as-president-disaster-for-africa-ex-us-envoy/ |

13-year-old Texas girl, Ariel Tolfree who placed her Samsung Galaxy S4 under her pillow while charging it and fell asleep has explained how she woke up to see it burnt. Tolfree said later that night, she smelled something burning, but never thought it could be her phone. “ I didn’t think much of it, so I went back to sleep and then I woke up again and it was more prominent ,” she said. Tolfree’ s dad however believes the phone overheated, causing the battery to swell and ignite a small fire. In another development, Holly Hewett , 25 , plugged her phone in to charge while she slept, but she was later woken up by a sizzling sound and the smell of the burning phone. She explains; ‘I woke up at 4.30am when my boyfriend got up to go to work and looked at my phone to check the time. ‘I noticed it was running low on battery so I plugged it in and put it on charge. ‘At about 5am I checked the time again then rolled over and went back to sleep, but within about 10 minutes of that I heard a sizzling sound. ‘Even though it was dark I could smell the smoke. I picked it up and the screen sparked. ‘As I walked to the bathroom the battery fell out of the casing at the back onto the floor. ‘I didn’t burn myself but there’s a hole in the carpet where it scorched it. The smell was awful, so I opened a window.’ ‘I was on my own and panicked because I’d got no house phone so I didn’t know how to contact anyone to let them know what had happened, she said. See photo below: i hope this serves as a warning and a lesson to everyone charging phones and gadgets all trough the night, it is very dangerous. please take note.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the declaration of support for the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a political somersault. The Governor asked Nigerians to ignore Obasanjo because he was more of a liability than a gain in the ongoing political scenario. He asked if Obasanjo had any electoral value as a politician since he had been consistently defeated by the opposition parties in his own place before and after he left office as the President of the country. Fayose, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, said Obasanjo’s endorsement of Buhari had clearly shown that he had lost wisdom. He said, “Leaving President Jonathan and vote for Buhari is like to abandon the road and enter the bush. God forbid we enter the forest which we may not come out from for years. “How can you follow somebody who because of old age is senile, but being propelled by his followers to fly the plane at all cost. Won’t that plane crash?” The governor said only gullible minds will obey his call that Buhari should be voted for saying that Obasanjo should not be trusted for anything. According to him, anybody that follows the word of Obasanjo is doing so at his own peril because the former President is no more in tune with modernity. www.punchng.com/news/dont-trust-obasanjo-fayose-tells-nigerians/ |

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday said that though Nigeria is a rich nation, its people are extremely poor due to bad governance. He also promised to involve serving and retired military generals to devise an effective strategy to crush insurgency in the country, if elected as President in 2015. Buhari, in his Christmas goodwill message signed by the Director of Communications, Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Dele Alake, expressed displeasure at the security challenges in the country and the poor state of Nigerian roads. He said his administration would focus on how best to “make the condition of living of the common man the index for the assessment of our policies and not the amount of billionaires our administration would have made.” Buhari felicitated with Christians in the country as they celebrated Christmas, assuring Nigerians that they would have better reasons to celebrate the festival if he is elected in 2015. He said, “On my part, I intend to initiate consultations with serving generals and those who have served our country and distinguished themselves on the battlefield across the world to work out an alternative and effective strategy to crush this insurgency within the shortest possible time if elected president on February 14, 2015. “I have said that I live the life of a pensioner. I share the burden and anxiety of majority of our poor, powerless people. I have offered myself on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the party of change, because I desire to give back to a country that clothed, fed and trained me to be what I am today. Our people are poor. But our country is rich.” The former Head of State, who berated the President Goodluck Jonathan administration over rising poverty in the country, said, “In a nation where a few individuals could raise N21bn because they wanted to make their friend President, millions of citizens, who truly own the resources being accumulated by a few, are left to suffer in sorrow, tears and blood. Buhari said while many Nigerians travelling towards the eastern part of the country would encounter “the failed promises of the Second Niger Bridge;” those travelling through the South-West would “have to bear the gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.” He noted that millions of Nigerians would celebrate the Christmas season in poverty and misery because “the system of production and distribution of national resources has been rigged against the vast majority of our people.” He said, “We promise that, by Christmas 2015, our administration would have brought out efficiency in management and allocation of public resources to make the inter-state roads smoother and easier to ride. “Christmas is a season when we all embark on journeys to join our brothers and sisters in our native towns to hold town hall meetings, inaugurate community projects and exercise our cultural rights. “This year’s celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises peace, love and togetherness to mankind. It reminds us, once again, of the exemplary life of Jesus Christ and the ordinary yet spectacular circumstances of His birth. His life enjoins all of us to follow his path by offering to sacrifice our selfish desires for the good of our country and mankind in general. This event, however, is taking place at a period of serious security challenges across the length and breadth of our dear country. “The right to life, guaranteed by our constitution, is under savage assault. The stories of murder in the print and electronic media make you shiver to the bones. The daredevilry of the Godless Boko Haram, which penetrated battle lines in the North-East to commit suicidal blasts in the north central capital cities of Bauchi and Gombe, demonstrates the crucial need to review the military strategy of our defence forces.” Buhari also promised to initiate policies that would ensure the empowerment of the masses, adding that his presidential ambition was borne out of the need to alleviate poverty and establish a system where the rule of law prevails. He added, “Certainly, there will be changes in policies. We cannot continue to enslave our country to those who tell us that we are in economic crises because of loans.” www.punchng.com/news/ill-meet-other-generals-to-draft-anti-terror-plan-buhari/ |
