According to an eyewitness who shared the story with shocking photos. Read her story below.. Here are pics of an incident that happened in my area last two Saturdays. A guy went to his friend’s place with his babe. A few hours later, the girl came out screaming rape rape rape. And later the guy came out too screaming help help help. The girl had blood on her clothes and then she was given a cloth to cover herself. But when the guy came out with blood on his body everyone was shocked and that’s when we knew the girl bit off his penis and this was done with her teeth. The guy was taken to the hospital but when they got to the hospital they realized that the other part was no longer there. They had to come back home to look for the remaining part, but by then its dead, though they stitched it he’s still in the hospital. Photos attached… Be warned the photos are quite graphic so viewers discretion is advised…

The pics after the cut are extremely graphic. I’d advise that you don’t look at them except you have the heart for it. Remember the family who lost three children from same parents in a fire incident at their home in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos on Saturday June 13th? Well, horrible photos from the scene have been released. The children are; Ifeoma, 9; Emeka, 7; and Udeoma, 3. The fire was caused by a candle lit in their home. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, in this interview withSuccess Nwoguaddresses topical national issues A lot of Nigerians still wonder why you chose to endorse the candidature of Muhammadu Buhari. Why did you do that? I was exercising my democratic right. So, how do you see Buhari as someone who is competent to rule this country? Let us put it this way, if this country had gone on the way it was going, the way things were shaping up; if this nation had continued for another two years, in fact, I will say, it would not have lasted two years. So the word, ‘change’ for me, was not a slogan. It is not a mere slogan. The nation needed new hands at the wheels of governance. That is quite clear. In essence, you are saying that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan did not do well and could have plunged the nation into ruins? Mr. Journalist, do not try to put words in my mouth. Listen to and report exactly what I tell you. This country could not have survived another two years, in my view, in my assessment in so many directions if the status quo had been maintained for another two years. Since Buhari has been inaugurated, are you part of those who think he should have hit the ground running by making all the necessary appointments? I believe that any incoming political leader, anybody at the head of government should be given at least a little time to develop his own rhythm. I do not think it is right to impose one’s own sense of governance rhythm on anyone. This county was not coming from ground zero. This new administration is not just getting in at ground zero, but somewhere below zero. So I think, we should just give some little time for any incoming government to find its pace, decide its own priorities. I have mine, you have yours. Everybody here has his or her priorities. In fact, mine changes all the time, depending on whether electricity is flowing or it is not flowing. So let us just give the government a little time. In your opinion, who do you expect to see in Buhari’s cabinet? I do not answer questions like that. Do you think the diplomatic shuttle by Buhari to Niger and Chad is capable of defeating Boko Haram? That is an answer to an earlier question which you posed. Obviously, Boko Haram is very much on his mind and constitutes a priority. But some people have said that he should stop seeking for outside help? This is exactly how we got into this mess because we did not seek help at the right time. If we had sought outside help when those girls were kidnapped, things would not have been the same. But it was too late. They would have been rescued if help was sought at the proper time or necessary actions had been taken. So we dragged our feet and I heard statements like ‘oh this is a national problem, we will solve our own problem.’ So there is cynical false pride. And when lives are at stake and the future of our children is at stake, people should swallow their pride and look for help because that becomes not just a national priority, it becomes a humanistic priority. So, if he wants to travel round the entire globe in order to solve the issue of Boko Haram, please just let him do so. Some people are of the opinion that Buhari would have done well if he is able to tackle just power and security, do you share such view? In how many days do you want him to tackle those problems? Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, how many years did he stay there, looking for a third term and electricity still did not flow? Now you want Buhari to start giving you electricity right now. When was he inaugurated? Just May 29. Conversely some may be of the opinion that if Jonathan had concentrated on tackling just power and security, he would have done better. May we know your view? Ahh!! That is a very simple question to answer. The answer is yes! Do you have any suggestion for Buhari on how to deal with pressing issues of security, power and oil and gas? No. But you are one of the fathers of the nation. You may have an idea. I am not omniscient. Just leave this government. And I would say the same; there is so much mess already. Let him take his time, take his stand and fix his own priorities but make sure that he concentrates on them. I say that about any incoming regime. I want to make that clear, I say that about any incoming regime, whether I approve of that regime or not is irrelevant. Do you agree with the opinion that Buhari should trim down the size of his cabinet to reduce cost of governance? The system we are running is too expensive. I will say it again and again. I would like to see it revamped completely. We cannot afford this system. So the issue of a large cabinet or a small cabinet is contingent on the fact on the system you are running. For instance, constitutionally, apparently, he is obliged to observe geographical spread. Can you imagine that? You do not run a country like that! So the constitution we are running is, in fact part of the problem; a major problem. We need a system of change, a total systemic revamp. That is my view. The government has started pleading with Nigerians to be patient, that the problems confronting the nation cannot be solved overnight. Do you blame them? You have just more or less answered that question. Nigerians sometime want to sprint without even getting running shoes. So opinion could differ. But I am saying that it is too early in my view. It is just too early for people to form that drastic opinion like that. Some people feel that you may be constrained to criticise the government of the All Progressives Congress because your son is an appointee of the party in Ogun State. Is that correct? My son is up to 21 years. He can go in any direction. I had a daughter who was in Obasanjo’s cabinet. She was an adviser on refugee problems. What my children do is of no relevance in how I think or what I do. Everybody is grown up. We all have our different ways. So it has nothing to do with me. What is the relationship between you and former governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi as you never criticised him? I never criticised him? Are you sure about that? Did you ever read everything I have written about him? I can remember immediately a couple of criticisms I made about him when he was in government. But you were very close to his government? I like him. I like him. The man is great. He was very courageous and I am proud to say that. I like what he did and what he said. Generally what is your assessment of the last elections? I am going to wait. You know elections are not over yet. As long as the tribunals are still sitting, elections are not over. I just hope those who rigged, especially those who rigged violently, are very drastically punished. I think, it is about time, we learnt to be very straightforward with elections. There were killings, you know, killings during that election. Can you imagine in 2015, we ran an election and some people were slaughtering one another? What is your impression about Kwara State University, Malette as the guest lecturer of its third convocation? Well, the university so far is what I call work-in-progress. What I can discern is planning. Obviously, it is not an ad-hoc approach. I can see definitely some comprehensive planning. That is all I can say about the institution as at the moment. Many Nigerians are concerned that the standard of education is falling. What is your view? And what are the solutions if you agree that the standard of education is falling? I agree. It is apparent. This is a terrible truth. I just hope that there will be a transformation. Transformation in which area? Transformation in terms of education. I mean about the various disciplines. Because I speak with my colleagues in various disciplines and what applies to the Humanities in any instance, simply applies to the Sciences. It is lack of material for experiment in the sciences; the libraries are sub-standard in many instances. There is shortage of academic publications such that lecturers in some cases cannot keep up with the latest developments in their disciplines. So most of the money which should go towards building of the institutions, is being cornered by private individuals who are now, I believe, setting up institutions which are better equipped and better staffed than what you might call the public institution. www.punchng.com/feature/interview/buhari-can-go-anywhere-he-likes-but-he-must-defeat-bharam-soyinka/ |
There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may carry out a major shake-up in the top echelons of the military. It was learnt that service chiefs and other senior officers across the various arms of the military might be relieved of their posts to pave way for new hands. Findings showed that Buhari would replace the service chiefs with equally experienced officers. It was gathered that all but one of the military chiefs would be disengaged by the President, while appointing new officers who would be expected to implement the new phase of the war against the Boko Haram sect in the North-East. Sources said that there was anxiety in the military over the looming change of guard which is expected to affect all the services, including the Army, Navy, and the Air Force. It was gathered that the military chiefs were acutely aware of the fate that might befall them, having reached the pinnacle of their career. A source said that the President may be considering one of the service chiefs to ensure smooth transition between the present military chiefs and their successors. But another source said this was not likely, noting that the only service chief that might be retained is the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, who was appointed a few months ago by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. One of our correspondents gathered that Buhari would likely appoint his “loyalists” and those he had worked with into top positions. It was also gathered that Buhari might have made up his mind to use policemen and soldiers as presidential security, while whittling down the influence and presence of the Department of State Services at the Presidential Villa. It was also learnt that Buhari indicated his preference for policemen and soldiers trained in body guard protection instead of the usual teams of DSS personnel used by his predecessor. A source said that the President is unhappy with the agency over the “various negative security reports it wrote against him during his struggle to become the President, including the report on the recent certificate saga.” Security sources said the rejection of 253 DSS operatives by Villa authorities last week was informed by the President’s directive that he did not want the agency’s personnel around him. One of the sources said, “The President has yet to forgive the DSS for what he sees as its antagonism against him before the last general elections. So, the President has decided to keep the agency at arm’s length and for his security, he will be using policemen and soldiers.” The source added that though a DSS operative would still occupy the post of the Chief Security Officer of the villa, “the CSO will be a mere figure-head because he would have no control over the security at the villa.” Further findings showed that since Buhari was sworn in, information about his itinerary and schedules were no longer passed to the DSS as is the tradition under the former President. Our correspondents learnt that under the last administration, the CSO would always be informed about the President’s movement and daily itinerary, but this was said to have changed since Buhari assumed office. Presently, it was gathered, it is only the President’s Aide-de-Camp that knows Buhari’s daily schedule and the CSO had to rely on his contacts within the villa to know the President’s movement. When contacted, the DSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, had told one of our correspondents earlier in the week that she could not comment on the issue of posting of the service officers at the villa. “I don’t have such information and I cannot comment on it,” she said. Also, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Sheu, declined to comment on the issues of appointment. He said Buhari could not make any pronouncement on appointments or any other issue until he received the report of his transition committee. Shehu recalled that Jonathan submitted its handover note to Buhari on the eve of his (Jonathan) exit from office. He said the President thereafter handed over the note to a committee led by Ahmed Joda to study and make recommendations. He added, “The Joda committee was given two weeks to study Jonathan’s handover note and make recommendations. “This committee just finished its assignment on Wednesday evening and may present its recommendations to the President on Friday.” www.punchng.com/news/buhari-plans-military-shake-up-angry-with-dss/ |
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Friday said the economic situation in the state that led to his administration’s inability to pay workers’ salaries was beyond his control. He said it was heart-rending that he had found himself in the situation which he described as a quagmire. Aregbesola spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed-doors at the Defence House in Abuja. He said he was not happy the same way a head of a family would feel when he cannot meet the needs of his family members. He said, “No head of the family will be happy that he cannot feed members of the family. “Extend that to state, it is heart-rending that I am in this quagmire. “But no matter how sad (I don’t want to use the word ‘depressed’), no matter how unhappy I am, the truth is that I will not fail to say that it is a situation absolutely beyond my control. “I led an administration in receipt of regular allocation in which I do my budget. “Unfortunately, this allocation started falling in rapid form that totally disorganised my budget and any other arrangement.” Aregbesola said those who want to be objective would readily admit that the Osun State of November 2010 when he assumed office and Osun of today are not the same. He said people must give credit to the changes that his administration had brought about in the state, saying the changes were not miracles but were occasioned by application of resources. The governor further explained that with the unexpected and sharp decline in revenue, his administration had a dislocation. The result of that dislocation, he explained, is the sad experience. The governor added, “Were it to be Osun alone, probably I would not have an excuse. “I pray it does not continue. I am not sure if there will be any state that will actually escape from the biting effect of the absolute sharp drop which I call economic disaster that we are grappling with. “Since my inauguration on November 27, 2010, I had made it a duty to pay salary on or before 25th of every month up until January 2014 when that became practically impossible. “I have been giving the same staff who today are, regrettably and painfully, not being paid annual bonus that we call 13th month salary. There was no demand for it. I just felt that workers must be encouraged, they must be inspired. “I did that religiously and faithfully from 2010 to 2013. The development that led to this began precisely in July when we received the June allocation and it was short by 40 percent. “Since then, what we have been receiving from the Federation Account is less than the wages, personnel cost. It is far and not mildly less.” Aregbesola said he struggled with it till October 2014 when there was nothing else he could do. He said the situation was further compounded by the fact that his government could not go to bank to borrow to pay the wages commitment. The governor however said that with the efforts he was putting in place, there might be solution by month end. “It is a sad development. I am struggling to reduce the pain as much as possible and I am almost at the end of the efforts I am making to ensure that by the end of this month, I will have enough to at least meet to a large extent the salary needs of the workers,” he declared. www.punchng.com/news/osun-crisis-beyond-my-control-aregbesola/ |
JOHANNESBURG A South African man who received the world's first successful penis transplant is to become a father just months after undergoing surgery, his doctor said Friday. Urologist Andre van der Merwe, who led the team that performed the operation, told AFP that the 21-year-old's girlfriend was pregnant. "I was informed by him that his partner is about four months pregnant," said Van der Merwe, who is based at Stellenbosch University. "We are happy that there were no complications and his penis is functioning well," Van der Merwe told AFP. "There was nothing preventing him from having children because his sperm wasn't affected." BOTCHED CIRCUMCISION Van der Merwe has previously admitted surprise at the speed of the man's recovery of sexual function however, saying the original goal was that "he would be fully functional at two years". The man, whose identity has not been revealed, received his new penis from an organ donor in a nine-hour operation on December 11 at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. His own penis had to be amputated three years previously after a botched traditional circumcision. The procedure, which often leads to deadly complications, is performed on boys and young men as a rite of passage to adulthood in some rural parts of South Africa. Van der Merwe said his team had been inundated with requests from men who have had similar amputations but could not take everyone. "Right now we have about nine people on our programme," he said, pointing out that finding penis donors would be one of the challenges, as is the case with any other organ. "I don't think it would be easy but I believe people will now come forward because of this positive case," he said. www.news.yahoo.com/african-man-penis-transplant-become-father-093320910.html |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said one of the first assignments for whoever he would appoint as the Attorney-General of the Federation would be to investigate the report released recently by Amnesty International. The report indicted top officers of the Nigerian military of gross abuse of human rights. The President, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, insisted that his government would closely study the report. “The president is quite disturbed by the allegations contained in the report. The next step is to look into the allegations and confirm or disprove the disturbing details,” the statement read. Shehu added that once the AGF studies the report, he would give the President advice on an appropriate course of action. This, he added, was in addition to the internal inquiry Buhari had asked the armed services to undertake by themselves. The presidential spokesman also restated the President’s commitment to human rights, and his promise that there would be no human rights abuses under his government. “Any allegation of human rights abuse that takes place during the tenure of President Buhari’s government will be swiftly investigated and dealt with,” he said. www.punchng.com/news/agfs-first-assignment-is-to-probe-ais-report-buhari/ |
The Peoples Democratic Party has called on the National Emergency Management Authority to donate relief materials, especially food, to workers in Osun State because of the non-payment of their salaries for the past seven months. The Director of Media and Strategy of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, made the appeal in a statement in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday. The party praised the Christian Association of Nigeria for rallying support for the workers but that the mobilisation of aid for the state workers could not be left for CAN alone to bear. The PDP also directed its members to begin to bring foodstuff to the party’s secretariats in all the local government areas in the state for onward distribution to the workers. It said, “The situation in the state requires much more than what religious bodies can cope with. We are calling on the National Emergency Management Authority, Red Cross Society and well- meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the workers in the state. “The situation of unpaid salaries is so bad that many of those in the employment of government have now resulted to begging to feed their family while many have attempted to hang themselves. “On Wednesday, a man slumped and died in broad daylight at the popular Olaiya Junction, Osogbo, after begging for money to buy drug, albeit unsuccessfully from the traders around and the passersby. “The man openly shouted that his relatives that usually give him money to buy drugs have not been paid salaries for months. The sad aspect of the story is that the corpse was left at the spot where he foamed and bled through the mouth for a day before his remains was evacuated. “We also have it on good authority that many of these helpless workers have been evicted from their rented apartment while many others are said to be considering suicide.” www.punchng.com/news/pdp-begs-nema-to-donate-food-to-osun-workers/ |
the All Progressives Congress has said that whatever disciplinary action it will take against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and its members for defying its directive on the election of the National Assembly leadership will follow due process. It said this just asThe PUNCHlearnt that the Presidency had intervened in the crisis the election of Saraki and Dogara on Tuesday had generated. The party had conducted mock elections in which Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila emerged as its consensus candidates for the Senate Presidency and House speakership. After the mock polls, the APC directed its other lawmakers not to contest the positions but ensure that Lawan and Gbajabiamila became the National Assembly leaders. But this was not to be as Saraki and Dogara did not only contest but won with the support of opposition Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers. In the Senate, an opposition member, Ike Ekweremadu, surprisingly retained his post as Deputy Senate President. Ekweremadu defeated an APC Senator, Ali Ndume, who also defied the party’s directive by contesting. The APC anointed candidate for the post is Mohammed Mungono. The APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed, who spoke with journalists after an emergency National Working Committee meeting of the APC in Abuja, insisted that the party had not made a U-turn on its earlier position that the errant lawmakers would be sanctioned. The APC spokesman had in a statement on Tuesday said, that the election of Saraki and Dogara was unacceptable. He had said, ‘‘The APC leadership is meeting in a bid to reestablish discipline in the party and to mete out the necessary sanctions to all those involved in what is nothing but a monumental act of indiscipline and betrayal to subject the party to ridicule and create obstacles for the new administration.’’ When asked on Thursday if the party would still go ahead with plans to punish Saraki,Dogara and others, he replied, that the “sanctions would follow due process.” He added that the errant lawmakers would be notified about their alleged offences and given an opportunity to respond. When asked why the members of the SUF were at the NWC meeting, he said, “They are our senators that wanted to confer with the party leadership; they came to confer on the crisis in the National Assembly.” On the threat by the SUF to contest Saraki’s election in court, the APC spokesman said, “I think the party made its expression clear on the matter, that it is unhappy with the outcome of the election and I think we won’t say anything beyond that. “What the senators will do is within their capability and rights.” It was also gathered that Saraki, who was due to pay a courtesy visit on the party leadership had a rethink on learning that the SUF members were meeting with the NWC. However, Mohammed said he was unaware of the planned visit by Saraki. “I’m not aware, probably if you wait you will see him,” he told the journalists, who also informed him that an advance team of security details from the Senate President’s office were sighted earlier in the day at the party’s secretariat. APC NWC meets Gbajabiamila, other Reps The APC leadership also met on Thursday with some of its House of Representatives members as part of efforts to douse the tension in the National Assembly. The members were led by Gbajabiamila and Mungono. A member of the team, Sani Zoro, said the meeting was essentially to look for a way forward out of the situation the party had found itself. Zoro said the APC had commenced the process of deescalating the crisis with an approach which would involve the Presidency, the National Assembly and the party’s leadership. According to him, what is uppermost in the minds of party leaders now is how best to leave the past and forge ahead. He said, “The solutions that are being worked out by the party, the Presidency and the National Assembly are being triangulated. “I can assure you that it will accommodate all the concerns and fears and at the end of it, it will provide a single template that all will key into. All that has happened is in the past because we have to defend the government that we have put in place, war cannot be the solution.” “Measures have been agreed upon that will deescalate the crisis. I assure you that those who are the masterminds of the crisis who thought they are going to benefit politically from it will be surprised.” Zorro added that it would not be out of place if the APC took appropriate actions against all its National Assembly members who entered into an “unholy alliance” with members of the opposition PDP. I won’t go to court, says Gbajabiamila Gbajabiamila told journalists after the meeting that they were prepared to work in the interest of the party and the Federal Government. He said that members of the APC in the House decided to visit the national leadership of the party on how to unite and strengthen the party for service delivery. Asked if he would challenge the election of Dogara in court, he said, “Go to court for what? But I don’t k know about the Senate. I can only speak about the House. Nothing happened in the House; we had an election so it is different from the Senate. In the Senate, people were deprived of their fundamental rights to express themselves by voting.” Mungono, in his comments, said it was normal in political settings for more than one person to show interest in a position. He however said when a political party chooses to organise an in-house election where candidates emerge, all loyal members must respect it. Mongono said, “As it is now, that (the election of Saraki and Dogara) is a reality on the ground. And we have to deal with it. We are loyal members of a party that is in control of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as such, we will not take any step that will affect the interest, the peace and order and good governance of this country.” It was also learnt in Abuja on Thursday that Presidency might have intervened in the crisis generated by the election of Saraki, Dogara and Ike Ekweremadu, a PDP lawmaker. A high ranking member of the APC made this known toThe PUNCHon Thursday shortly after the NWC also met with some of the SUF members. The SUF comprises 27 senators solidly backing Ahmed Lawan, the anointed candidate for the Senate Presidency. They and Lawan were also among the 51 senators that were waiting for a scheduled meeting with Buhari at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, when 57 of their colleagues elected Saraki, a former Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, as Senate President. Shortly after the NWC meeting started, the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, allegedly received a message that his attention was needed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa. The high ranking party source, who did not want his name in print, also said that Saraki and Dogara might only be cautioned by the APC for defying its directive not to contest the two highest positions in the National Assembly. He said, “Our leaders at the highest level have waded into the matter As I speak to you, the general feeling is that, we cannot afford to allow the National Assembly issue to further polarise our party. “Saraki, Dogara and their supporters are most likely to get away with words of caution because the deed has been done.” The party source however said the Presidency was disturbed about the emergence of Ekweremadu as deputy president of the Senate. When one of our correspondents contacted the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, and Mohammed on the Presidency’s alleged intervention, they said they were unaware of it. Don’t harass N’Assembly Clerk, PDP warns APC The PDP has asked the Presidency and the APC not to intimidate or harass the Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and the National Assembly Service Commission for their roles in the controversial elections of the leadership of the National Assembly. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Thursday, said that any attempt by the APC to transfer its frustration to Maikasuwa and the commission would amount to victimisation. He said the undertone of the statement by Buhari’s spokesman, Shehu, that the Clerk was notified of a meeting between the President and the APC lawmakers “amounts to putting undue pressure on civil servants in the National Assembly for performing their legitimate duties and sends a serious signal which should not be ignored.” Metuh described as unfortunate, the fact that the APC displayed its “arrogance and disrespect for the dictates of the constitution” by attempting to adjust the President’s promulgation order on the National Assembly and seeking to put their interest over and above the supreme law of the land. He added, “It is a clear mark of disrespect to the constitution for the President and his party to fix a meeting for him to address their legislators the same time he had directed the Assembly to be inaugurated in line with the constitution. “For 16 years that PDP nurtured democracy in this country, there was never a day it attempted to arm-twist or intimidate the bureaucracy of the National Assembly to do its bidding given our recognition and respect for the independence and sanctity of the legislative arm. “The National Assembly is the citadel of democracy and represents the collective voice of all Nigerians. The PDP, even in opposition will continue to protect its sanctity and will therefore resist any attempt by the APC to undermine its independence and those of other democratic institutions in our country.” Metuh noted that the position of the APC and the Presidency clearly negated Buhari’s well-received and praised assertion in his inaugural speech that he belonged to everybody and not to anybody. He said, “By the last minute attempt to shift the inauguration time for party interest, the President violates his Presidential oath to defend the constitution and serve the nation without fear or favour and irrespective of party, religion and tribe, as he did not consider the interests of other political parties and the generality of Nigerians.” Metuh added that emerging events have continued to justify PDP’s position that the APC was ill-equipped and unprepared for the challenge of ruling the country. According to him, these became glaring in the way and manner the APC handled a very vital issue like the inauguration of the National Assembly. He said, “From March 28, 2015 to June 9, the APC had about 74 days within which it was expected to put its house in order and present its leaders for the 8th National Assembly, but it could not because of the greed and selfishness of its so-called godfathers who instead chose to fix their party meeting the same time the President was scheduled to inaugurate the National Assembly.” Metuh advised that rather than vilify the Clerk, the APC should commend him for his patriotic and courageous stand that had helped minimise the embarrassment the shifting the inauguration would have brought to the country internationally. He therefore charged the Presidency and APC to apologise to Nigerians for the embarrassment their ineptitude and inexperience had been causing the nation since they came into office. www.punchng.com/news/well-follow-due-process-to-punish-saraki-others-apc/ |

ABUJA- The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court is at the momen hearing an ex-parte motion seeking to disqualify Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from emerging as the Speaker of the House of Representatives tomorrow. Justice Abdul Kafarati is presiding over the suit which was lodged before the high court by the Registered Trustees of Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative. The group, in the suit filed pursuant to Order 26 Rule 8 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2009, is contending that Hon. Gbajabiamila is not morally fit to head the third arm of governance in Nigeria, alleging that he was previously ”convicted in the state of Georgia for unethical practices and was debarred as a lawyer for 36 months”. Aside Gbajabiamila, the House of Representatives and the Attorney General of the Federation were equally cited as defendants in the matter. The ex-parte motion is being argued on behalf of the group by Human Rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozehkome, SAN. In a supporting affidavit that was deposed to by one Alojie Nmerengira, the plaintiff told the court that its investigations revealed that Gbajabiamila was convicted by the Supreme Court of Georgia in 2007, even as it attached a copy of the order of the court as ‘Exhibit A’. Nmerengira averred: “That I am the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the plaintiff organization by virtue of which I am very conversant with the facts deposed herein. “That the 1st defendant is a member of the House of Representatives who nurses the ambition of becoming the Speaker of the House in the next Assembly. That the 2nd defendant is the constitution body created to carry out legislative functions for the good governance and advancement of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “That the 3rd defendant is the Chief Law Officer of the Federation that ensures the sue enforcement of our Laws so that the nation does not fall into the pit of lawlessness. “That as a sensible and responsible organisation, my board deemed it proper that to achieve the objective of the organisation, that we should intervene in public interest litigation in deserving situations. “That few days ago it came to the public domain that the 1st defendant was a leading candidate to the position of the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives. “That my organisation, following the wind of change that has pervaded the political environment in Nigeria, deemed it proper to carry out a background check on the leading candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. “That I discovered that the 1st defendant was a lawyer and practiced in the United States of America, particularly in the state of Georgia. “That upon further enquiry, I discovered that the 1st defendant was convicted in the state of Georgia for unethical practices and was debarred for 36 months. A copy of the order of the Supreme Court of Georgia to that effect is hereby attached and marked ‘Exhibit A'”. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/breaking-news-speakership-court-asked-to-disqualify-gbajabiamila-over-us-indictment/ |
