Wedding guests killed in
Afghanistan blast
Last updated: 2 hours ago
Roadside bomb kills at least 19
people heading to a wedding
celebration in northern Balkh
province.
A roadside bomb has torn
through a minibus carrying
people to a wedding celebration
in northern Afghanistan, killing at
least 19 people and wounding
16, authorities said.
Bismullah Muslimyar, the district
police commander who gave the
death toll, said six children and
seven women were among those
killed in Balkh province on Friday
morning. He said a police patrol
had passed through Dawlat Abad
district attack site during the
night.
"All the victims were civilians and
mostly they were women and
children," Shir Jan Durrani,
provincial police spokesman, told
the AFP news agency.
The bus was taking guests to a
wedding celebration in the
Dawlat Abad district, about 40
kilometres from provincial capital
Mazar-e-Sharif, Durrani said
Muslimyar said the wedding had
occurred Thursday, and the party
was heading to the groom's
home to congratulate the
newlyweds according to
tradition.
Hamid Karzai, the Afghan
president, strongly condemned
the attack.
“Planting a mine on a road used
by civilians and the killing of
innocent people represents
hostility toward humanity,'' he
said in a statement.
There was no immediate claim of
responsibility for the attack.
Earlier this month, the United
Nations Security Council
expressed serious concern at the
high number of civilian casualties
in the war, especially among
women and children.
Women and children accounted
for about 30 per cent of this
year's casualties, mostly victims
of roadside bombs.
The Taliban and other armed
groups are responsible for the
overwhelming majority of civilian
deaths in the country. About 77
per cent of the deaths between
January and June can be
attributed to fighters, a UN
report said.
Homemade bombs continue to
be the deadliest weapon for
civilians, accounting for 29 per
cent of all such deaths in the
period, it said.
Free and fair elections
Meanwhile, NATO's visiting top
official urged the Afghan
government to ensure that the
next presidential elections in
2014 are free and fair. Karzai will
not be able to run after having
served the maximum two terms
in office.
“It's essential for the trust
between the Afghan people and
government that these elections
take place in a free, transparent
and inclusive manner,'' Anders
Fogh Rasmussen, NATO
secretary-general said in Mazar-
eSharif where he and envoys
from NATO's governing body
were concluding a two-day visit
to Afghanistan.
There is mounting uncertainty
about the upcoming transfer of
power, which will come as
NATO's troops prepare to end
their combat role at the end of
2014.

Tolaaaaannni: If I make 2million naira a month and I see a person that is obviously IN NEED and cannot help themselves. You see that I said "In need and cannot help themselves" meaning not some lazing bum on the street that doesn't want to work. But someone that can't help the situation that they are in. Then absolutely I will give them 200,000 naira no doubt, or even more!
My point is not just seeing anybody on the road and giving your tithe, i mean going out to look for the poorest of the poor who may not even know who you are and helping them enrich their lives with your tithe.
Christianity EtcRe: Is It Wrong To Give Your Tithe To The Poor by Mcdondayan(op): 7:28pm On Oct 17, 2012
Fhemmmy: This is not what the discussion is about.
And i like the fact that you are personalizing it . . . what you gave to the poor is not your tithe or do you give the entire 10% to the poor?

Thats my question. If I decide to give the entire 10% to the poor, those whom i know to be really poor, is it wrong?

ba7man: I'm back. Been reading up on the Biafran Civil war on Google. True, a blockade was effected but why did Ojukwu reject the aids when they were later allowed in?? He seemed more concerned about securing planes for his bombing campaign and weapons. At that point, he was detached from the realities of the war. He was more adept at leading troops. I also confirmed it that it was the Nigerian Airspace that aids was attempted to be delivered to Biafra. Ojukwu should have worked out an alternate route through Cameroon (An option that's glaring) since France was sympathetic to the Biafran cause. Ojukwu was probably too focused on the war front to realize his people were dying.
My brother go and read again. Why do you think Nigeria lost Bakassi to Cameroon? When you find the answer, come back.

CyberG: Only because she spews garbage which is your same position? I asked really important questions but it is VERY upsetting to see people come here to twist facts. I have read the same Aburi accord, dissected several hundreds of time by people who are indeed knowledgeable and very respectable for stating the facts. Has Mimi or you read that same document? How many neutral, factual books have you personally read? I know when she joined this forum and at the beginning she just jumped blindly around on issues based on sentiments not facts and knowledgeable folks cautioned her. Now, she gets to teach the likes of Kts, Alh, Ekt, Gba, etc history when it is well documented that Ojuku rejected the same Aburi accord for getting about 90% but not 100%. Well, so Nigeria gets 0% and guess who complains about that? iboz like Mimifowon and you, the ignoramus who does not know that 0% << 90%. Does it not makes sense that if Nigeria got 90% that works so well, it was just a matter of time before everyone comes around to support anything that completes that equation?

Well, here it is: EVERY other Nigerian may complain from the North to the West to the SS to the MB but NOT ojuku's sheep-people iboz. Not the likes of Mimi who is even clueless, a noob about these issues as evidenced by here earlier jumping around ignorantly. It is just really upsetting, annoying and downright reprehensible to see people twist historical facts.
Even if she is wrong, that does not give you the right to abuse her. If you have a contrary view to her post, and you have read better materials of the said meeting, as an intellectual (which you claim to be) you could post it here for every one to see rather than resort to personal abuses. As a mature man which i know you are there are better ways to handle issues like this, or do you think the op manufactured the post herself?

Goshen360: @ OP,

Even some false tithe teachers will tell you that when your neighbour is dying and a poor person need help so desperately, they will tell you you must still bring your tithe to the church. There is nothing like tithe to Christians in monetary form. If you have money and God speaks to your heart to help the poor, do it graciously and cheerfully. This way, you are an angel sent to another man.God will reward you.

If you also decide to give certain portion of your income to help the poor cheerfully, God bless you for such but it doesn't necessarily have to be 10%, it can be more or less or even vary from month to month. I have seen where it is written "God loves a cheerful giver" my brother but I am yet to read where it is written "God loves a cheerful tither" because tithe is "by force" but giving is "by grace, willingness and cheerfulness"......Glory to God!
In as much as i wish to reach out to those in need, tithing is necessary. But i feel it doesnt make sense to take huge sum of money to the church when you have many poor people around.

@ logicboy. Thanks. I feel this is a good way of tithing. There are many people around us who are hungry, yet some people give their tithe to those who have more than enough to take care of themselves.

Good day brothers and sisters in the lord. I have been pondering over this issue, and have asked some questions about it.
The bible tells us to give one tenth of our proceed to the lord and there are many promises attached to it. But if we look around us there are many poor people around us.
I have asked this same question to a clergy man and he said it is nt wrong because God is also in the poor. So i want to bring the same question to NL christains (not the brainwashed ones) who have proper reason to clear my doubt. IS IT WRONG TO GIVE OUR TITHE TO THE POOR?

So many people have died as a result of kidney failure, liver problems and the likes which are the direct result of using such drugs. Ndigbo should apologize to Nigeria for this crime against humanity.

while we blame the writer for the write up, we as parents should teach our children good morals, teach our children that hardwork pays, teach them core values of life, let them know the consequencies of all their actions good and bad, teach them to never loose sight of God, and pray for them always.
We as parents should monitor and exert some level of control over their activities and monitor them closley, while we pray to God to take control.
We should know that they watch everything we do and if they pick the bad ones, it becomes a habit.
The change we clamour for starts from the family and it will put an end to jungle justice and any occasion that will pre-empt jungle justice
