TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 10 by mcearnie: 9:45pm On Nov 28, 2016
Congratulations Zino! All the best. I was interviewed by the VO (Lady) at d extreme end. I was wearing a black shirt on blue jean n an ash high boot. I think i saw someone like u according to ur description. I will b picking my passport at Isolo too. Congrats once again
Zino55:
Hello guys. Thanks for the good job. I'm an ardent follower of this thread and iv learnt a lot I must say. I made a promise dat I'd share my transcript whether approved or not so someone can learn from it.

Thanks to airich01 who helped pay my sevis, although I had contacted sirddy, Mayflower and walspring who also agreed to assist pay. Thanks guys.

Visa approved today 28th 7:15 am appointment, Lagos. Was asked only 3 questions.

Back date to 27th, arrived lagos at about 7:00 pm. Fesobi (thanks bro) already told me how to locate a hotel at Lewis street obalende. Checked in and was seriously hungry from the journey. The hotel had only EBA and eguisi soup. Haa..I didn't want to eat anything that would affect my body system as I and eguisi have not been on good terms for a while now(make I nor go dey sh*t for embassy). Went out to look for something more suitable to eat. All the while, the visa interview was on my mind (how would it go? Hope I get a white paper? What shud I even wear? Hope my punk (hairstyle) will not disqualify me? Hope a Jean won't be too casual? etc)

I just took the food back to the hotel, ate and revised the 3 questions I felt were most important to me( what are u goin to do in the USA?, How did u find out about this sch?, Why did u choose this school).  I knew I'd be able to handle any other question thrown at me, but those 3 questions had to be given perfect answers).

Interview day. Arrived the consulate at about 6:30am. Waited for a while then a man told those of us for 7:15 to queue up. Did all d formalities and we got into the hell.

A lot of persons were being denied cos I was seeing blue slips.  Didn't loose focus tho. Was trying to strike up a conversation with some peeps while waiting for biometrics but no one was willing to talk (in my mind, I was like: haa! Why una just serious like dis nawww).

While waiting I heard someone's interview and he was really doing great with the while Lady VO at the extreme end. When he mentioned the name of his school, I just knew who it was cos we had been in communication via contact gotten here on NL (he is right here on this thread). His visa was approved too (the Lady VO obviously had no choice).

Now my interview:

VO: Goodmorning Hw are u
Me: I'm well thanks (smiling)
VO: Pass me ur passport and i-20
Me: Here u go (passing it to him and smiling)
VO: Types for a while...(checks the i-20 again and murmurs *Valparaiso* How did u know about this school?
Me: My senior colleague in the office had his Msc in this same school. He is pretty good with his job. That is enough testament to the soundness of the program...(paused for a while) then continued talking.... Hence, I thought to apply and I got admitted.. And here am I today.
VO: You said you work for .........company, what does the company do?
ME: Its a conglomerate into several business segments of the Nigerian economy from shipping to maritime to oil and gas to IT etc.
VO: Okay. Passes me the white paper..Pick up your passport at Isolo after...bla bla bla (didn't even hear the other things he said: I only heard have a nice day and I said thank you and left).

I was surprised cos I was expecting more questions. No documents, didn't even ask about sponsor, or the number of schs applied to..I really give thanks to God and this wonderful thread.

Someone gave me an advise that I used and (maybe) it worked. Maybe it will work for someone too:

1). Don't be nonchalant with the interview but find a way to come through to the VO as really interested (but not interested) in the visa. Be calm when speaking and be bold too.

2). Dress comfortably. A suit may not be necessary. Wear something that ud be confident in. I wore a Jean and v-neck T-shirt. When I looked round the interview room, a lot of peeps wore suits or at least tucked in their shirts. I almost let it affect me (tinking I was under-dressed) but I didn't. Trust me when I say I was the only one wearing a jean and T-shirt (with good shoes tho grin) cos that's how I dress. I'm not really a suit person (last time I wore one was during the job interview where I currently work).

So, be comfortable in whatever u put on (whether suit, jean or native).

3). Be confident, maintain eye contact with the VO.

Above all, Pray and let God take control.

Wishing u all the best.

Good morning everyone, trust you all are good. GOD APPROVED MY VISA at the Lagos consulate this morning at exactly 7.30am. My appointment was for 7am. All thanks be to God! I was the 3rd to be interviewed by the VO, can't really remember the window's number. She delayed the 1st 2nd applicants and i was the first to be approved.

VO: Come this way pls
ME: Good morning, trust you are doing well? *She no answer o* me sef i no send.
VO: Your passport pls...types....your i20
ME: Gave her
VO: What are you going to do at WSU?
ME: To pursue a master's degree in computer science
VO: How do you intend to do this?
ME: I will be doing a total of 30 credit units within the space of 29months, after which i will return to Nigeria...*VO dey nod head upandan o* Some of the courses that i will be doing are adv. DBMS, adv.Artificial intelligence,....
VO: Among all these courses, which is more of interest to you?...* i no expect dis kin queshion o*
ME: DBMS...VO:Why?
ME: Because, i currently work as a software system analyst so, i deal with DBMS everyday. It's an opportunity to garn more skills in it.
VO: Why WSU?
ME: It's more affordable compare to other schools i applied to and it meets my mum's budjet. Also, there are many opportunities in the school like research grants, internship placements because of their strong relationship with many industries so, i will not only learn on the class room but also on the field...she continues nodding her head.
VO: So, your mum is sponsoring you? What does she do?
ME: Yes, she's into oil and gas, she supplies oil and gas products like AGO, PMS and DPK.
VO: ok, i will be approving your visa, have this white paper becasuse you will need it for passport collection. Also you will be needing your i20, keep it safe.
ME: thank you and have a nice day.

No document was asked for and all these didn't last 4mins.

Thanks to SirRiddy for the sevis payment and thanks to you all that sacrifice your time to contribute to this thread. LagosIsmyHome, Walspring, DeeTus, SureBoy, etc.

For the rest visa hopefuls, go and GET YOURS! God is with you!

Cheers you all!

I'm sure you know there are lots of differences between both courses. While in a lot of cases people specialize in coding and design in CS, IT may be servers, databases etc. Not a general classification, but that should give you an idea on how to defend your choice degree.

If I had a choice between MS in Computer Science and MBA, I would go for a MS in CS..
Your point is very valid bro. Thanks

Walspring:
i think the VO should come and answer the bold aspect

is better you go back and fill your nigeria MSc in your profile and going for Msc in another field is an added advantage during your interview because you should be ready to state why this new field and if possible lecture the VO as well..
I thought of that. It would have been better if i am going for another field or an MBA. I did my first in Information Technology and i'm going for Computer Science now. I did computer science as first degree. I will work arnd it anyways. Thanks alot.

I usually pefer honesty and constituency which reduces your worry...

however back to the topic. , interview is less than 5 mins or 2 mins self so which time will Vo have to be googling such . also loads of people have same name so even if your name it is possible someone else is bearing d same name. it happens in Nigeria even in the USA...... i had two classmates with same first name , middle name and surname. .. it almost impossible but i actually did have two classmates like that .
Thanks alot. This really helps.

Yea, not trying to lie but to avoid too many questions ni o

Good day all, i appreciate ur efforts in ensuring success for everyone here. God will reward u all.

Pls i want to know if VOs normally check for one's information online during interview. For example, d VO searches google to get details on LinkedIn, company's website, etc just to confirm if d answers given by d candidates are true. Can dis really happen?

Reason why i want to know is because, i already hav an M.Sc here in 9ja and I'm going for another M.Sc in d US and i never mentioned dis in my application and all that. But it can be seen on my organization's website n some other professional sites.

Advice pls. Thanks

You will need to read the rules when the application period starts. I think it's allowed so long as you are still in your first year, but rules can change. It's a definite no no for second and third year.
Thank you for your prompt response Si Nuel. God bless you.

Good day all and congratulations to the latest awardees, I am happy for you all. Also, I must commend your efforts in sharing timely information on this thread.

I missed the application deadline the last time due to late awareness. Right now, I am already preparing to go to USA and my program starts March, 2017. I want to know if it is possible to apply for the scholarship while already a student. Can I apply even though I have started my program and paid for my first academic year?

Thanks and God bless as I await your responses.

is 8 months post graduate diploma not too short to secure a visa
No it is not too short as long as it is above 6 months. Canadian Study permit is only issued for programs above 6 months and anything less 6 months, you secure a visitor's visa.

Thanks alot Olah23, God bless you. But the issue i have with my salary account is that whenever salary enters, i always move it to my personal company account and this has made the balance in the account to be very small. But there is an evidence of continuous transaction in the account. If i fund it now, they might suspect. What is your advice on this please? Thanks once again.

Best is to use the 2 since u ve a salary account with them, don't rule out the full time company even if they nt sponsoring u. Atleast to fill the job space

Good

job you guys are doing here. God bless you all.

I need help urgently as i am about to submit an application for study permit. I gained admission to a college in Ontario for a diploma program that would last 8 months starting from September 5th, 2016. I am 28 yrs old, i have a wife and a daughter here in Nigeria. i rounded up my masters in April, 2016 and awaiting clearance. I have 2 jobs, one a full time and the other is a part time. Now,the company where i work part time are one of my sponsors, they will present letter of sponsorship, company statement of account, etc but i do not have a company salary account from them as they mostly pay me in cash and not regularly. I can only get payslip, letter of employment and ID card...Meanwhile, the company i work full time for are not my sponsor and are not even aware of my plans but i have a salary account, letter of employment and confirmation, ID card, etc.

My question now is, should i present the documents that i can gather from the 2 companies or present only from the sponsoring company even though it is a part time job?

Pls help urgently. Thanks.

These guys are still in the game oooo. I'm currently handling one as i type dis post. I met his message on my phone as early as 7am dis morning mentioning my name and asking me to call him for a biz discussion. Wen i called, He told me he was my course mate back in the university n called himself Prince n that he relocated to Delta state where God has blessed him...n trully sounded like one of my friends, Prince. He told me d business was abt supply of grilling bolt stn1.8, 100 cartons...i shd contact Felix Amadi 08138694920 d store mgr at Suntec technical services n then, Dr Jasper Bamigo 08085450561 d contractor. After d discussions on phone, i decided to google suntec to know more d company, grilling bolt stn1.8 to also know abt d product...lo n behold, i land here.

Thank u for keeping dis thread. It gave me all d info i needed. But what can we do to stop this scammers frm dis tricks?
