However, like the Kumi guy I told you about, we started out as friends, and you know we ladies always know when guys like us. But I, as a person, don’t like to drag it out of you. I’ll act as if I can’t read between the lines. Anyway, we gradually began a relationship, but I won’t even peck an ordinary friend; it’s that bad.”

CelebritiesDear Oaps, Your Music Tastes Are Terrible And Pathetic by Mchayy(op): 8:00am On Aug 20, 2015
There is no doubt that music has come a long way in this part of the world. From the days of irrelevancy to world acclaim, a gallant, triumphant journey, witnessed and propelled by not a few; artistes, media and consumers alike have played major roles in its growth.

We have now come to a stage where we can boastfully hold our own, claim to be fore runner of African entertainment as a whole. International bodies and companies now look to us to enlarge their brands, a dignifying move that would require some sort of ‘sacrifice’ to be achieved in the past.

But how well have we taken advantage of the growth and improved in terms of musical content and creativity, we’ll say not very much.

Despite these commendable strides made, what is disheartening is the daily and constant promotion of mediocre music materials being recorded and released by our favorite artistes even, which are in turn ceremoniously praised and hyped as solid body of work by our media representatives.

Besides the artistes who try to feed us with irresponsible, carefree, and mediocre quality of music daily, the blame lie almost squarely at the feet of our media personalities, through whose choices appalling musical releases are being fed to the public.

This unrepentant act begs the question, do the sort of music we hear on a daily basis on our radio waves and TV broadcasts a true reflection of the taste of music by the respective On Air Personalities (OAPs) and presenters alike?

It is indeed a million dollar naira question, as some claim what they play are mainly and mostly determined/dictated by the listening consumers, or their respective media executives/bosses even. We don’t know how that works, but it is without a doubt that an OAP can choose to project quality songs through his/her shows and be ruthlessly known for that.

If a corporate body which runs a radio/TV business has the power to put limitations on its workers as to the sort of content that is being disseminated on its station, why isn’t it totally against some certain type of releases?

Tuning in to the various radio/TV stations in the country, songs filled with unrepentant profanity, vulgarity and mediocrity are constantly a daily routine by OAPs anchoring their respective shows.

We dare to say our OAPs and presenters alike have uninspiring, terrible choices or taste of music, if what they play are strictly what can be found on their personal phones/i-pad playlists.

Then they go on by shamelessly giving props to a new release irrespective of the quality or content, with bold statements including the use of revered words like “classic, best, jam, hit, favorite” e.t.c

This can only point to the fact that a so-called big artiste has friends all around the media, those who wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of the said artiste by being overly/constructively critical of his musical output. Whereas, an artiste who makes good music rarely sees/hears his song played if there’s no reasonable amount of closeness or friendship exhibited between him and an OAP, except money is involved.

It is ridiculously absurd the amount of times Vic O has actually been granted airplay and interviews since his comedic record diss towards Drake and Meek Mill, whereas budding, talented artistes like Adol, Godwyn, GT The Guitarman, or any other prospective talent barely get a look in. This validates the notion that OAPs mainly follow trends rather than break or challenge it, as they attempt to milk the Vic O situation by mainly teasing and baiting him.

It’s a pathetic and grueling situation where a prospective artiste with enormous talent and substantial studio recordings has to pay through his/her nose to get his/her song played by the media houses. Which in turn discourages the maker of good music and encourages him/her to go by the infamous rule of ‘if you can’t beat them, you join them’, prompting shabby subsequent releases.

More disturbing is having to hear a so-called OAP talking and ranting about the need for moral values on his/her show but doesn’t replicate that by the quality and content of what he/she dishes on his/her playlist.

OAPs who harp on about moral uprightness, social awareness and social responsibility, but don’t replicate that in what they project to the public, are hypocrites, and a disgrace, ones that can’t/shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Watching one of the ongoing MTN Project Fame season 8 episodes, an alumni of the prestigious talent show actually told the contestants that all it takes for them to blossom and succeed in the Nigerian music industry is to simply make ‘ONE’ hit song and whatever follow-ups they make, irrespective of the content or quality, would be lapped up by the consumers.

This is a pathetic notion, but sadly true, going by the appalling format being adopted and embraced by a sizable percentage of our favorite musicians.

Just so our OAPs know, you can actually have a request show that is still strictly bordered by rules regarding the listeners’ request for songs, making them choose only musically/lyrically in-depth releases….and the listeners would enjoy and get satisfied no less.

People have shown to grow to love what they constantly hear or see. You’d be shocked to see that when there is persistence with only exceptional or remarkable materials on the airwaves, the listeners in no time get accustomed to these kinds of releases and subsequently show irritability or rejection towards watery music.

Dear OAPs please grow some balls and take a stand for something positive and of impact. Believe us, when a certain level of irritability and rejection are shown towards certain mediocre records, it only brings about ONE result,…..the artistes SIT UP!

We need to stop hiding behind “it is what sells” and take the dire situation by the scruff of the neck to be able to effect some type of positive changes.

The more consistent, relentless and creative approach or manner by which you project this positivity and musical excellence, the gradual it grows and sticks on your listeners.

Be the Change, Be the Voice, Break the Norm…….It can be achieved!

CelebritiesHop ‘aboki’ Of The Day – Vic O (@vicotvs) by Mchayy(op): 9:15am On Aug 05, 2015
Often times, our celebrities will put up acts that are either deemed to be childish, over the board, shameful, funny or crazy. We have found a way to actually celebrate any celeb who put up any of these absurd acts.

The ‘Aboki‘ in this context is two-edged – Aboki being an Hausa word for ‘friend’ and also the general use of it in describing a mumu-ish person……it’s fun, get on the train!

Ladies and Gentlemen, our prestigious award for the day goes to…………Vic O!

This Cross River native decided to jump in on the ongoing Drake vs Meek Mill drama by recording a diss song, supposedly aimed at the rappers, and well he succeeded in making a mockery of himself.

Vic *hic O….errrr wtf was that!?…For the sake of sanity, we do hope it’s your big shot at comedy, a burlesque of some sort….a highly successful one if it was.

We don’t even know where to start, can’t even talk about the music ‘cos there’s absolutely nothing worthy to talk about. Dissecting the lyrics of the ‘toilet’ rhymes is sure a waste of space and time, and we’re sure Drake and Meek would feel the same, if at all it finds its way to them.

Even the pen & paper(if he used one), mic and whatever other material he made use of during the recording of that ‘song’ would have burst into hysterical laughter if ever they had a sniff of life in them.

As much ‘L’ as Meek Mill is adjudged to have taken in the battle with Drake, we are sure this song will at least bring out a hearty laugh from the MMG rapper.

For a dude that was able to draw the attention of industry heavyweights like Don Jazzy and Kemi Adetiba, you can say he’s done/achieved a lot.

Gotta give it to him though, at least he got the internet shut down for a few days…..hell he’s even made it to our highly dreaded ‘Aboki of the Day‘ column, that’s an achievement in itself.

Thanks for the entertainment fam….and a big CONGRATS for making it to our page!

Now shut the f**k up and let sanity prevail, we’ve got some real music to listen to.

***Downside is, Vic O has really gotten airplay on reputable radio stations across the country…..We hope they pay more attention to ‘real’ artistes who make proper meaningful music….You know, those that aren’t actually making a mockery of themselves!

CelebritiesSquash The Beef- Skales Celebrates Wizkid On His Day by Mchayy(op): 12:15pm On Jul 16, 2015
Wizkid and his former label mate, Skales are not on good terms. Few months back, Skales called out Wizkid for not supporting him even though he (Skales) do show him love.

Wizkid fired back at Skales and blasted the ‘Je Kan Mo’ crooner on Twitter. The fight got messy to the extent that Skales’ girlfriend blasted Starboy.

Skales celebrated his birthday in April 2015, while other celebs were celebrating the Baseline recording act, Wizkid refused to celebrate his former label mate on his day.

After his birthday, Skales took to Twitter to show love to Wizkid, he said he love Starboy’s jam ‘Expensive sh!t‘. Wizkid didn’t reach out to him to thank him or appreciate his support.

Skales told Punch in an interview that when he sees Wizkid he will settle the beef with him and he’s done with beef.

Today, July 16, 2015, Wizkid added a year to his age. Skales sent a birthday message to him.

He wrote on Instagram “happy birthday @wizkidayo …. More blessings king ….I am super proud of you #love”

As at the time of filing this report, Wizkid is yet to reach out to Skales.

We think Wizkid should bury his pride and squash the beef with his former labelmate. Skales have nothing but love for him.

The Jamaican act who served as a US marine in Iraq during the first Gulf War urged Western armies to find a way to distribute his music into ISIS camps in order to inject some emotions into the group.

“There’re two thing you want to do when you listen to reggae: You get somebody pregnant, or you’re f**king high. High people don’t want to kill nothing; they want to love. They need to bag some Jamaican weed and distribute it amongst ISIS. I guarantee there won’t be any more wars out there.” he said.

CelebritiesCharly Boy – I Lost My Virginity To A LovePeddler When I Was 12 by Mchayy(op): 3:01pm On Jul 06, 2015
Popular eccentric personality, Charly Boy has revealed his sexual escapades as a youngster, saying he lost his virginity to a LovePeddler when he was twelve, while he also fathered his first child at the age of sixteen.

The highly expressive Area Fada made this revelation on his blog, talking about his sexual preferences by denouncing opinions that he’s gay or bisexual.

He wrote: “By the time I turned 12 years old, I was disvirgined by a local LovePeddler who dashed me my first STD. The discomfort I experienced was very scary, it was as if my kini as on fire“.

He also shared his experience of being molested at a young age by a nurse, “My baby nurse was caught tampering with me sexually…a practice that pleasured me even though I didn’t know what the heck to do.”, he wrote.

Despite pressures from his mum to get married at a tender age of nineteen, it wasn’t until he married his present wife, Lady D, that he was able to maintain a stable marriage after two previous failed marriages, he further revealed.

Charly Boy also admitted to dating various degrees of women, with some being at least 10years older than him. He shared: “For me I saw it all as legally having a free supply of p…sy, endless sex”

He finally opened up on the reason he acts and dresses weird, as he said it’s all in a bid to drive away the growing number of women around him. In his words: “The controversial stunt and hype of being gay was my unorthodox way of beating off most of the women hanging around me, it was riduculous. As the hype gained momentum most of the women left me to myself, feeling that my sexual preference was different.”
