I think this might be helpful considering which diet suits your pet more in other to maintain good body tone and coats. To feed an English puppy could be very hard and frustrating,all you need is patience. when I got my GSD newly she was really a picky eater. she won't eat what I gave her but she will poo everytime,that got me worried. I decided to contact the breeder about her previous diet but twasnt successful. I was advised to leave any food I give her on her bowl that she will always come around to take a bite, I did and it kinda worked, I didn't like the idea cos of flies pestering on it. I bought various dog food to see which one will entice her more;
Simply right (savory cuts in gravy)
Purina alpo (prime cuts)
Corn beef
jojo premium
I gave her corn beef she ate, I decided to mix it with jollof rice but she picked only the corn beef and left the rice. I tried simply right, she smelt it and left it, I was the one to feed her the savory cuts by hand. At time goes I cooked indomie and mixed it with corn beef without seasoning,she liked it(this was seuns idea). then I tried Purina alpo she went frantic so was my two pet cats Cos they were always beside me when m feeding cayenne, so I had to let them have some. i also tried over cooked rice mix With corn beef and a little semolina she loved it, I was making progress .
The bill for the dog food was so much, as a student I can't always keep up. so I always tried mixing half can of dog food with most food like spaghetti, rice, indomie and the rest and she always seem to be enjoying her self with those,as of now she's no longer picky with food, she eats whatever that comes from my hand. by the look of things she's growing fast and well balanced than i anticipated judging from peoples comment,she's just 2.2 months old.
For those of you like me who might find it a bit difficult to go for expensive dog food, you can make some yourself at home, I'll give you guys some few pointers and some of my homemade recipes

wheat pudding (for sound weight gaining) :
grounded wheat
grounded millet (dawa)
grounded fish bones
palm oil
procedure :
boil water
add all dry mixtures together (just like in preparation of semolina)
add little palm oil and stir. serve



someone in nairaland gave this recipe(courtesy)
soya beans (cooked dried )
groundnut
crayfish

procedure :
grind all together. and use as food supplements,you can add it on pap, custard or other pudding .



rice pudding ;
corn beef
rice
semolina
soybeans mixture(above)

procedure :
boil rice till soft, add semolina and one full tablespoon of soybean mix
add corn beef.
cook all together and stir, serve

*last advice, make sure you give your pet multivitamins daily to aid good muscle toning and appetite, I give mine vetzyme B plus E. and also code liver oil( for shiny coats and healthy skin)
*deworm monthly

that might be hard considering you're trying to travel with him, where's he now?

I see. mehn you're really into this breed,for me m just sticking with GSD for now maybe later I'll try the malis. have you tried the GSDs?

oluomoadebayo: I gave the Rottweiler to a friend that demand less from a dog. You have to spend a whole day with a rotweiler before he can learn new things and not easily motivated like the maligator. Try and own one and you will know what I'm talking about.

I am just waiting to get my Dog's KCI cert and upload for him to see.....just maybe then he will shut up (surely he will not tho)

The breeder spelled wrongly the mother's (dam) name on the form so it was rejected, he just sent a corrected copy back now, hope to get his cert soon then i will still wait to hear what he will say.

I might not know as much has he do about dogs but this is my dog, i know when i got him also i didnt buy him from a road side breeder, i did my research and findings, i got him from a reputable kennel after visiting couple of others.

was he imported?

what features of Caucasian were u looking out for

that's not a Caucasian pup,it's either a GSD mix or a malinois, see the pics below a Caucasian don't have pointed ears like yours have, even without cropping. The full ears are like that of fox hounds or beagle(fold) not pointed. ni my advice to you is that you've been duped,you should go back to the breeder and ask for a full pedigree info or a refund while it's still early ....

Amusaopeyemi: I almost got in2 a fight with a guy at d butcher's shop this evening, he came to buy meat for his dog n he told me the dog likes raw meat like that n I was like "r u ok"? The thing shook me for body no be small but like he said its non of my business I just pity d dog, hope he deworms him regularly sha.

lol, the guy for call you amebo. well, but no mind m, na him go surfer pass when he contracts Salmonella from his dog saliva when he licks him. obviously the disease has no effect on the pet but those that handles the stool and the rest.

adewasco2k: exactly, Brado still act like a small puppy and his bones are not strong yet....he even suffered a down pastern due to his weak bones, i had to start giving him calcium supplement and thats when i changed his feed from puppy feed to adult to reduce his intake of protein.

now his pastern is up as his bone is a bit stronger now

down pastern? that's a very bad and painful thing for every dog. I researched about it and I was baffled with what I saw,it can disfigure GSD paws(pasterns) making it look more like human feet, it's terrible. another likely cause is too much exercise at tender age. Mehn, I just have to watch my GSD from now on. and again i heard it can be hereditary.

henry007: no way in hell that dog is 4 months old

m sure he's right, remember it's GSD we're talking about here they have rated rapid growth. A GSD is said to be matured when its 1.5 to 2yrs. at 1yr of age they myt look big and matured but still their brains is still much of a puppys'.
