Seal Though pregnancy in SCD frought with a high likelyhood of complications, i know MANY SS women with 2,3 even 4 childeren. What they really require is specialist management by an experienced OB/GYN (Obstetrician) in the antenatal period. Since she's in the UK shes sure to get the best care NHS can provide. |
@seal777 Sori, my bad. I got your penultimate post the wrong way around. Your frnd who is SS shld av a little more positive attitude abt herself especially now she has someone who truly wants to marry her. The guy in questn isnt ignorant of her condition, so he knows and has made a decision to be with your frnd inspite of it. I think u should encourage her to go for it as there are NOT many ppl out there as bold as this man who can marry SS. Thats what i shld have said. Cheers. |
@seal777 That says a lot abt ur friend. As for the guy, he shld go do thanxgiving in church. |
@Poster I believe, the elisa and western blot tests for hiv antibodies are highly sensitive but not very specific tests.Depending on the test kit used, they can give you a false positive result for an array of other ailments (abt 70 of them) eg rheumatism, fibroids, malaria, TB, and early pregnancy are just a few. Although , no one has actually done a survey in this country, this phenomenon affects quite a few 'baffled' expectant nigerian mothers. A year after their husbands still test negative. this issue(of false +ves) is well documented by hiv researchers on the net, their work isnt hard to find. |
Wow ! Are in your 20s yet? Dnt worry, they tell me once you make it 30 you'll have less problems. After that just look after your appearance, keep your weight up and protect your fertilty. Find a nice genotype AA girl to marry. Youll be fine. |
I wonder where Daisy2010 is ? |
, hmmm |
@ gee You seem to know them quite well. They absolutely hate poorly ventilated and hot environments. Your friend could try bone marrow transplant if he has the resources, its better done while he's younger not older because the success rate is higher in the young. Have a nice day. |

Sorry to hear abt your loss. I too have lost quite a few friends, classmate and a sibling 15yrs ago to this. The most serious threat to the life of the sickler is Acute Chest Syndrome. Even abroad the mortality rate is quite high but in our part of the world its more or less 100%. Dying of ACS is like 'having your lungs crushed slowly' . Abroad they are placed on assisted ventilation, antibiotics and most importantly given Exchange Blood Transfusion. Here in Nigeria, there is over-emphasis on giving oxygen to them rarely anyone bothers to arrange for an exchange tranfusion early enough, so these patients most of whom come in with pulmonary oedema , eventualy tire out, pass out and check-out. The only thing you can do to decrease possibilty of ACS occuring is to aggressively treat any chest infections in the EARLY stage. This does not eliminate the possibility totally, as other factors can also lead to it. Typhoid (salmonella) osteomyelitis is also another big killer for sicklers, so make sure your friend is up to date on his immunisations. |
I Personally dnt see what all the obsession is with Man City . |
HAARP Technology would do that, yes. But even old fashioned 5 megaton nuke-testing would do just as well. http://www.rense.com/general61/earthquakestsunamisand.htm |
Daisy You wnt be the 1st to say that. Pls keep me posted on the results. |
Songbird5 I hope you know your staph isntsupposed to be an STI ? The fact youre Hiv +ve(immunocompromised) makes it easier for staphylococcus to infect broken skin and become a systemic blood infection. |
Silicon ? Or Selenium ? |
@ Daisy What if it doesnt change ? |
Managing Sickle cell disorder can be a nightmare for both patient and care providers. Theres no textbook protocol for keeping a sickler healthy. What works for one may not necessarily work another. The basics are keep warm, stay well hydrated, avoid physically strenous activity but take enough exercise. Fatty foods do not seem to help so avoid. Supplements like folic acid and B complex and zinc are helpful. Make sure he/she gets vaccinated against pneumococcus and other possible infections. Theres also NICOSAN a new drug that is supposed to prevent or decrease incidence of painful episodes, you might want to try that as well. Some sicklers can live long as anyone else, i met a 73 yr old woman who is also SS recently. So it is possible. there are many who are already in their 50s married with kids so have a positive outlook. |
Poster Its easy for everyone to give advice, do this, do that. . .but you have to ask yourself '' do I have the will to work this out ?'' Even if your answer is yes , what about her ? Is she ready to meet you halfway ? If she's not you'll end up looking like a bigger mugg than at present. At the end of the day miracles can still happen so PRAY one does. |
Well, what do you think ? |
There is no issue here. Carriers SHOULD NOT marry each other. Someone AFFECTED by sickle cell disorder should ONLY marry healthy (AA) partners. |

^^ Sure ! HMOs will always rip patients off. But they will do it POLITELY and with special CARE . |

?? Im totally lost. What else could there be btwn your laps? ?Nihilism/Depersonalisation. |
Hmmm. Poster what are you referring to as watery sperm. Normal semen is supposed to liquefy over time after ejaculation. However semen that is watery on ejaculation may or may not be of sub fertile quality. In other words a man may still be capable of impregnating a woman with semen that 'looks'watery. Again, watery semen that was previously thick could be indicative of a problem eg infection. Your best bet is to do a Seminal Fluid Analysis at a lab. Furthermore, its worth mentioning that foods you eat also affect the consistency of semen. Eggs milk nuts tend to thicken the ejaculate. |
With the advent of private Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) in Nigeria this sort of shabby treatment should become a thing of the past. |
Poster You probably have bacterial vaginosis. Organisms involved are usually Gardnerella, peptostreptococci or anaerobes. You didnt give a history of prior sexual contact. So its likely to be due to changes in your internal flora. A course of metronidazole or clindamycin cream should resolve it. But let a dr prescribe it for you before buying it. |
Your recurring infection could be due to poorly treated or a resistant bug. Be sure to comply with your medication directions to the letter. Also stay away from likely sources of re infection. Dirty bukaterias and fast food joints. Eat your food piping hot. Dnt eat salads prepared outside of your home indiscriminately, you need to be picky here. Sachet water should not be your refreshment of choice. Go for a good bottled water instead. |
? Ruptured uterine cyst. |
