Rytr: Rytr is an #AI writing assistant platform that helps you create your catchy emails and cover letter in seconds, awesome right (bye bye dear CV writer 😰). The best news is, you can use it for other forms of writing like social media ads, blog posts, text editing, creative writing and more. Do well to check it out.

Mailtrack: This Gmail extension helps you track your emails and see when they are opened, so you can follow up at the right time and increase your chances of getting a response. It's a useful tool for keeping track of your job applications and for #freelancers, you can use it to track real-time response rates to your cold dms. I learned about this in 2019, but since it doesn't work on the android app(i don't know if it works now) I had to wait till I got a laptop to start using it, and trust me, it was the first thing I did after getting my laptop this year.

Glassdoor: This platform allows you to search for jobs, research companies, and read reviews from current and former employees. Use it to find job openings that align with your skills and career goals, and to get a better understanding of what it's like to work at different companies. A friend introduced me to the platform in 2021, and it has totally changed my job application game.

Some employers will give template to follow and ask for personal details including date of birth, marital status, number and even names and ages of children. Especially when you are applying for a lecturing job. I think different sector all require different resume format and details.

You're right.

Please o! We do learn everyday but i want to know is there any difference between resume and CV

Though both of them are used interchangeably in Nigeria, they're a bit different. A CV is mostly used in the academia and contains more details than a resume, like publications, seminars etc. Resumes are used for job applications.

Wanna ask just out of curiousity, no: 4 tips, if one have a very very strong connect, say governor or a strong personality, should it still be left "available on request" or should be included?

If they were the ones who gave you the slot to apply for the job(I presume you understand what I mean by this) then you can include them on your reference, but if not, put 'available on request'.

Depending on the kind of place you're applying to, those who you're submitting your CV to might just get those details and use it for their own personal gain

Career / 4 Things You Should Never Include On Your Resumě by Mczigx(m): 11:13pm On May 11, 2022
Everyone wants to get their dream job, but sometimes it can be hard to get even a foot in the door. The first step to getting a great job is having a great resume.

If you're applying for jobs and no one is responding, you might have made some common mistakes on your resume. Here are four things you should never include on your resume, and also some tips for writing a great one.

1.Your personal information like date of birth, age, marital status, sex, etc. The reason why most persons include some of these on their resumes is because they see other persons doing it. They've never stopped to ask themselves 'how does including this information on my resume make me a better candidate for the job or internship'

2. Unrelated work experiences and skills: Know what skills are related to the job you want and what isn't important. If it's not relevant, leave it off! If I'm applying for the role of a front desk officer, my previous experience working as a video creator or graphic designer shouldn't be stated on my resume as these two don't relate.

3.Photograph: While a photograph can be helpful if you're applying for a job where your appearance is important (like modeling or acting), most employers will be more interested in your skills than how you look. For some countries especially in Europe, this is accepted but in other countries, it's a no no.

4.Reference: This section should also be taken off from your CV as it's of no importance. Instead of including the contact and address of your referees, just write 'to be provided on request'.

If you're careful about including only the right things on your resume and leaving out everything else, your chances of being called for an interview would improve greatly.

NYSC / Dear CM, Do Not Redeploy Without Reading This by Mczigx(m): 8:53am On Apr 09, 2022
Number 2 is a must read

Two of the major reasons why most persons relocate is because they feel the state they were posted to doesn't have much opportunities (mostly teaching jobs available) that they can utilise or take advantage of for their service year or maybe the state doesn't pay allowance, so they redeploy to another state with better opportunities and pay..

kiss
Redeploying to another states gives you a level of control, to determine or select your PPA, so you wouldn't want to mess this up. Here are 5 sure things you can do to help you with this:

1. Search for organisations in the state you're redeploying to: Google is ever ready to help in this aspect. Run a search on 'organisations in (name of state) or' organisations that accept corpers in..... ' go through the search results, select the organizations that relate to your field (you stand a better chance here), pen down their contact details and email address. If they have a website or social media page, check it out to learn more on what they do.

2. Create your CV: searching for a good PPA is same as job-hunting. What better way to let the organisations you'll be applying to know the skills, experience or qualifications you possess than through a well Optimized CV. If you can't write one, get someone to write one for you.

3. Send out applications: on this, send a cover or application letter to the organisations you selected with your CV attached. State the expertise you're bringing to the table and how you can help the organisation achieve its goals and objectives by hiring you. One of the reasons why most of these organisations reject corpers is because they feel they mack experience and have nothing to offer them in terms of job related experience and expertise. If you can make them see that you have something to offer, definitely they'd be ready to compromise for you even if they don't accept corpers.

4. If the contact of the head HR or Hiring manager is on the website, consider giving them a call to express your intentions or visiting the office in person

5. Wait and pray and keep applying till you get an acceptance....

NYSC / Re: Career Path To Follow : Preparing yourself for the Labour Market by Mczigx(m): 4:34pm On Dec 29, 2021
joshawesome:
Good evening sir, I'm a first class graduate of microbiology currently serving the nation(NYSC). I wanted a career path of food microbiologist but the state I was posted to didn't have any food processing company. My fear is that after NYSC, how can we acquire those " working experience" listed as requisite to obtain job from these food processing company. Please sir, is it advisable to run my master degree before in search of a work.
Thank you

Food processing company isn't the only place a microbiology graduate can work, you can also work in research laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, Refineries etc

Since you already have a place you're serving and you'd have less time on your hands, here's one thing I'd suggest you do.

Look for companies that fall into any of the above listed, send in an application to volunteer with them for a fixed number of hours weekly (could be 10, 15, 20 or more, depends on you) without pay (they would be more willing to consider you if money isn't involved). If any of them considers your offer, you've got yourself a job where you can gain work experience and also affords you the opportunity to connect with persons there in your line of career who've gone ahead of you. Study them and learn.

There are a lot I could say about this but I think this would do for now.

The admin might have a better advice.

All the best.

Thank you all.

All hope is not lost, your major plan will be how to get a visa; getting admission is quite straightforward.

After getting a visa, you can switch courses within your school or transfer to a new school or get admitted into a new school/new program...

Look for courses in Analytics, Logistics, Supply Chain management... You might be admitted directly for these and they are closer to the sciences.
Na there my knowledge reach, you might discover something new.

My wife says "you can be whatever you wanna be"; my guy with UK masters in Engineering don start Medicine (now a citizen though).

There are courses we have never heard of that will easily admit you as a social scientists either from Nigeria or once you arrive - become a Mungo Park, go and discover them. wink

Wow!

Thank you very much Boss, I'll put this to work.

Phones / Xiaomi Beats Samsung To Become Number 1 Smartphone Brand In The World by Mczigx(m): 12:03pm On Aug 07, 2021
Xiaomi has beaten both Samsung and Apple to emerge as the number one smartphone vendor in the world during June 2021, the latest Counterpoint report confirmed.

Xiaomi has been leading the smartphone market in India for a while and had a remarkable June quarter this year which first saw it overtake Samsung in Europe and now, it has surpassed the South Korean electronics giant in globally in June. This is the first time when Xiaomi has managed to grab the top spot among smartphone makers. However, it still ranks behind Samsung at the second spot if the entire quarter is taken into equation.

Xiaomi presently leads the global smartphone sales charts with a market share of 17.1 per cent in June 2021, followed by Samsung at second place with 15.7 per cent, and Apple at third place with 14.3 per cent.

“Ever since the decline of Huawei commenced, Xiaomi has been making consistent and aggressive efforts to fill the gap created by this decline. The OEM has been expanding in Huawei’s and Honor’s legacy markets like China, Europe, Middle East and Africa. In June, Xiaomi was further helped by China, Europe and India’s recovery and Samsung’s decline due to supply constraints,” Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint, said in a press statement.

This is a win for Xiaomi Fans.

Career / Re: How Do You Think Young People Can Network Better? by Mczigx(m): 12:19pm On Aug 01, 2021
Networking has been a major issue among young persons especially now when most public speakers or leaders encourage it at events or social functions. The problem is, most young persons aren't actually going about it the right way. Networking is an opportunity to get to know the next individual, what he or she does, your shared interests etc

Most persons go into networking with a needy mindset, always asking without giving in return and this puts the other person off. This is one of the major reasons why most of the relationships they've tried to establish doesn't last.

Networking is a symbiotic relationship, always have something to bring to the table and you'd see the improvement you'd make.

Suggestions are welcome

Get a mentor, someone who's already experienced in the field to guide you. There's a limit to what Udemy videos can teach you, that's experience. And your mentors have this. Search for Olamide Towobola on LinkedIn or Twitter, he's one of the best freelance coach I know.
