Having observed this thread silently, I think I will need to wade in on this connection or no connection; merit or no merit. In this country, people get jobs on merit and that is a fact. People get jobs by connection and that is also a fact. I work in a very reputable firm in Nigeria; I and my colleagues got the job on merit as entry level. In my firm someone else with virtually same qualifications got the job by connection and started on about six grades higher than ours. Both facts are real. Believe whatever you want to believe.
