ABUJA — The Founder and President, Dozzy Group of Companies, Sir Daniel Chukwudozie, was on Thursday conferred with the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award at a well-attended ceremony in Abuja.

The NPOM Award was instituted by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour and Employment to honour deserving Nigerians in recognition of their hard work and excellence.

According to a statement from the organizers of the award program and Sen. Chris Ngige-led Labour Ministry, the Dozzy Oil boss was honoured in view of his contributions to the social and economic development of Nigeria.

“Chukwudozie, a leading player in the trading, manufacturing, energy and oil and gas sectors of the Nigerian economy, has provided job opportunities for thousands of Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike, who are working directly and indirectly for his companies.

“The oil magnate is unassuming in personality but has through his business entities provided job opportunities to Nigerians in large numbers.

“He has equally, through community service and other humanitarian gestures, provided succor for the downtrodden in the society.

“The award is in recognition of Chukwudozie's hard work, integrity, patriotism and giant accomplishments”, the statement sent to Igbere TV read.

On his part, Chukwudozie described Nigeria as a blessed country in terms of human and natural resources, stressing that his passion for mentoring the younger generation on entrepreneurship was borne out of his grass to grace story.

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige and Nigerians at large for the honour, the business mogul dedicated his award to his employees, who turned out in their numbers to support their indefatigable boss.

He used the occasion to call on other prominent Nigerians to give back to the society by creating job opportunities and wealth for the youth.

Igbere TV reports that Chukwudozie was conferred with NPOM Award alongside Mr. Tony Elumelu of Heirs Holdings, Alhaji Aliko Dangote of Dangote Group of Companies, Mr. Oba Otudeko of Honeywell Group of Companies, among others.

Education / FUTA Suspends Students Involved In Bullying Mate Off Campus by MediaGuru36: 10:16am On Nov 17, 2019
...Promises Stiff Sanctions

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), in Ondo State, has suspended the students involved in the bullying of a female student in one of the off-campus hostels on Saturday November 16, 2019.

A group of FUTA students were caught on camera assaulting a female 100 level student mercilessly in her room. She was later identified simply as Bimpe, of Ecotourism and Wildlife Management Department.

About five students, one male and four females, ganged up against the female student, accusing her of saying something she was not supposed to, which resulted in her getting the beating of her life.

A statement made available to CAMPUS GIST on Sunday, announced the suspension of the assaulters by the school management.

The statement signed by Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA’s Deputy Director,
Corporate Communications, said the university had commenced investigations into the circumstances that led to the odious and unfortunate act.

“The University deplores such behavior and reiterates that all those found to be culpable will be visited with the full weight of the law under the extant rules and regulations governing Students behavior and conduct off and on the campus at the conclusion of investigation being carried out by the Students Affairs Division.

“The University Management is providing medical and counseling support for the affected student”, he said.

“The University reiterates its abhorrence of any action or behavior by students that are inimical to the well-being of others and will continue to sanction students who run foul of its rules and regulations.

“For the avoidance of doubt only students who are worthy in learning and character can lay claim to and be addressed as FUTA students”, added Adebanjo.

Investigations by CAMPUS GIST revealed that the students may be outrightly expelled from the school, at the end of the investigation, as prescribed in FUTA’s student handbook.

Crime / Photo Of Aficionado Killed At UNIBEN Final Year Students Jean Party (Graphic) by MediaGuru36: 8:21pm On Nov 01, 2019
There was pandemonium at the Ugbowo main campus of the University of Benin, on Friday when a graduate was gruesomely murdered by suspected cultists.

CAMPUS GIST learnt that the victim popularly called “Aficionado,” was taking part in a jean carnival organised for final-year students of the Faculty of Arts at the Twin-Lecture Theatre when he was shot in the head by the assailants around 6pm.

A source in the institution, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the late Aficionado’s body was later taken away by school authorities who came after the incident.

Another student who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned confirmed the incident, adding that there has been tension on campus since the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm it. The incident happened few minutes ago while the celebration was going on.

“A final-year jean carnival was being held for students of the faculty of Arts...and he joined them. Suddenly, we heard a gunshot.

“We didn’t even know that he was the one that was shot. It was later that we saw him on the ground.”

Efforts to reach the university's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Michael Osasuyi for comments proved abortive.

But a source close to his office, who confirmed the incident, said that the case had been reported to the Ugbowo Police station while investigation had commenced.

...chase away management team

...as Student Union president, PRO escape mob attack

Students of the University of Benin, on Friday blocked a bullion van belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), temporarily halting its movement.

The protesting students equally stopped some vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Army, which were part of the CBN’s convoy.

CAMPUS GIST reports that the students were protesting failure of the school management to restore electricity and water in their hostels, as well as deplorable roads in the school.

They also decried the state of disrepair of their hostels, which they said are characterized with leaking roofs, poor toilet facilities, untidy environment and overgrown weeds.

Some part-time students later joined in the protest, claiming they have not received lectures for the past three months since their lecturers were being owed salaries.

The students had earlier shut down all gates leading to the university main campus, depriving staff of the institution from leaving or going into the school premisses.

The protest which commenced at about 6.a.m on Friday halted vehicular movements in and out of Benin en route the ever-busy Benin-Lagos expressway.

This is even as the students in their numbers chased away all members of the management team, who attempted coaxing them into abandoning the protest.

Those affected include the institution's Dean of Student, Chief Security Officer, Head of Intelligence and a church chaplain in the school.

The Student Union President, Idehen Charles; PRO, Godwin Okafor would have been lynched but for the quick intervention of the police.

The protesters, who had since converted the Benin-Lagos expressway to a football pitch, were later supplied with water to quench their thirst.

Our correspondent observed that many travelers to and from Lagos were forced to take to other alternatives, including the popular Benin bypass.

The protesting students later voluntarily withdrew from the expressway, with a promise to return on Monday if their demands are not met.

Friday’s protest which lasted for over 7 hours (6:00am - 1:15pm), is the longest protest ever recorded in the history of the University of Benin.

The current administration led by Prof. F.F.O Orumwense, as vice-chancellor, is said to have recorded more protests than all previous administrations combined.

The new VC, Prof.(Mrs) Lilian Salami, will formally assume office December 2 when Orumwense’s tenure elapses by November 30.

Protesting students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, Edo State have blocked the ever-busy Benin/Lagos expressway, taking to street football match.

The students have equally shut down the main gates leading to the Ugbowo main campus of the university, depriving staff of the institution from leaving or going into the school premisses.

CAMPUS GIST reports that the students are protesting failure of the school management to restore electricity and water to those living in the university’s hostels.

The protest which commenced at about 6.a.m on Friday has halted vehicular movements in and out of the ancient city of Benin.

Our correspondent observed that many travelers to and from Lagos were forced to take to other alternatives, including the popular Benin bypass.

CAMPUS GIST reliably gathered that the students had earlier written to the school management to fix the water and electricity problems but nothing had been done to resolve the issue.

As at the time of filing this report, at about 11:30 a.m, the ever-busy and commercial Ugbowo axis of the city is currently at a standstill.

Efforts to obtain comment from the university’s public relations officer (PRO), Mr Michael Osasuyi, proved abortive.

When our news crew visited the institution’s administrative block, otherwise known as VCO, it was void of the usual day-to-day activities.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.F.O Orumwense; Registrar, Mrs O. A. Oshodin and PRO were said to be out of town when our news crew called at their offices.

This is not the first time students of the University of Benin will be protesting against epileptic power supply and lack of water in the school’s hostels.

Postgraduate students of the school had last semester, protested against the development which led to the suspension of some hostels mayors and mayoress.

Politics / Edo: Apc’s DENCO Floors Esama’s Daughter, Omosede In Appeal Court by MediaGuru36: 11:15am On Nov 01, 2019
The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City on Friday, upheld the election of Hon. Denis Idahosa (DENCO), as All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State.

Igbere TV reports that the three-man appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Ms. Omosede Igbinedion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who lost her reelection bid to Idahosa.

Igbinedion, daughter of the Esama of Benin, had appealed the verdict of the Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld INEC’s declaration of Idahosa as winner of the Feb. 23 National Assembly election.

Delivering judgment on the case filed against Idahosa, on Friday, the Court said the PDP candidate, Igbinedion, failed to prove her allegations beyond all reasonable doubt.

The Court, therefore, dismissed the appeal of the PDP candidate for lacking in merit and substance.

Politics / ICYMI: Presidential Aide, Police DIG ‘abducts’ Miss Amnesty Organizer, Mcwary by MediaGuru36: 7:11pm On Oct 28, 2019
Mrs Tracy McWary, Founder of Tracy McWary Foundation – organizers of Miss Amnesty Nigeria, has spent at least five days outside her residence since her forceful abduction.

Igbere TV had reported that McWary was recently forcefully taken away by armed men believed to be from the Police Force headquarters, Abuja.

This is coming weeks after she accused the Force Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), Michael Ogbuzi of colluding with the Presidential Amnesty Office to blackmail her.

According to her, the force DIG had demanded that she sleeps with him as the only condition to stop the unprovoked attack against her person, an offer she rejected.

Trouble started after McWary exposed some shady dealings in the Presidential Amnesty Office, wherein she accused the embattled Amnesty boss, Prof. Charles Dokubo, of multimillion naira scam.

Dokubo had hijacked McWary’s Miss Amnesty Nigeria programme in 2018, and fraudulently got the support of some organizations by impersonating her office.

She said the Amnesty boss had threatened to kill her, after she refused to sign some papers to divert the funds made available to her by the government to empower Niger Delta women.

In a clip exclusively obtained by Igbere TV over the weekend, McWary could be seen arguing and struggling with her abductors while on steering on the expressway.

The abductors believed to be men from the force DIG’s office, all dressed in suit, had earlier blocked her private vehicle before forcefully taking her away.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Presidential Amnesty Office and the Force DIG regarding the development, proved abortive.

But a Personal Assistant in the McWary Foundation, Heavens McWary, confirmed the development to our correspondent over the telephone on Sunday.

He said the Amnesty Boss and Force DIG had illegally blocked all bank accounts belonging to his boss (Tracy McWary) before her forceful abduction.

According to him, “Trouble started after my boss, Tracy McWary refused to fall for their tricks and game plan. She was approached to transfer some funds earmarked for empowerment to a fraudulent account which she openly rejected.”

Mr McWary said the Amnesty boss, Charles Dokubo was reported to the FCT Police Commissioner for thorough investigation, “but he (Dokubo) colluded with the Force DIG and transferred the case”.

“The DIG did the biddings of the Amnesty boss and eventually took over the case file from the CP despite the progress recorded. He frustrated the case using his office.

“McWary was subsequently abducted by the police and locked up in the cell. She was given some outrageous bail conditions including a surety who has over N100 million in his bank account, houses in Abuja and was asked to deposit N300,000 as bail charges. She met all the conditions in two days and was later released.”

On how Mrs Tracy was forcefully abducted recently, Mr McWary said Dokubo planted a lady in their Foundation who posed as a Miss Amnesty contestant and ended up selling out the Founder to the DIG.

“My sister (Tracy) got friendly with the said lady not knowing what her real mission in the organization was. Eventually, the lady sold out Tracy’s movements to DIG’s men which led to her forceful abduction.”

He said men of the DIG later stormed Tracy’s residence, ransacked the building and took away her laptop, and equally wiped off all vital information on her phones and ended up blocking her bank accounts.

Asked if any contact has been made confirming Tracy’s whereabouts, Mr. McWary said the force DIG denied having her sister, and even barred them from seeing her and refused her bail.

“This is not right, how can you arrest a nursing mother denying her little baby breast milks and even refuse to issue any official statement about the arrest. We the family cannot even reach her on the phone. It is over five days now since she was forcefully taken away.

“We are calling on the President, Muhammadu Buhari and all well meaning Nigerians to call Prof. Charles Dokubo and the Force DIG to order, this is an act of kidnapping and not just right”, Mr. McWary added.

UPDATE 1:

The police later came and shot sporadically into the air to disperse the angry youths who blocked the highway.

In the process, five persons among the youths were said to have sustained gunshot wounds; one in the shoulder, another in the chest and the last person beside the eye.

An eyewitness said the police left with two of the injured youths as they retrieved the four bodies of the victims and deposited them at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH.

UPDATE 2:

Igbere TV now gathers that the four killed are - a pregnant woman and her three children.

Sources said they were waiting for a bus when the vehicle rammed into them killing all the four instantly.

Another source has it that the car was driven by a man who has since absconded. His wife (passenger) is said to have been injured and recuperating at UBTH.

***
The government is said to have left all drainage systems around the Uselu Shell axis open after a clean-up exercise on the gutters.

The victims of today's accident were said to have taken to the ever-busy highway as alternative since the regular walkways have been blocked with muds removed from the gutters.

Tragedy as vehicle kills family of three, one other in Benin

Tragedy struck in the early hours of today around Uselu Shell area of Benin city, Edo state when a private vehicle rammed into four children killing all.

Uselu is a popular residential area of Benin, located along the ever-busy Benin-Lagos expressway, leading in and out of New Benin and Ring Road axis.

Our correspondent reports that the Community is currently on a lockdown following the unfortunate incident.

The vehicle, a BMW drove by a middle-aged woman, was said to have had break failures before ramming into the four children-hawkers.

Igbere TV reliably gathered that three of the four children are from one family, and the only children of their parents.

The incident happened exactly at the traditional ground in Uselu, which is put to use only during the coronation of a new Oba.

Community youths have taken over the major roads in protest, setting the vehicle ablaze and lighting up a burn fire on the expressway.
