CrimeMy Mother Told Me To Poison My Father – Son Tells Court by mediaNGR(op): 7:09pm On Jan 28, 2019
A 10-year-old boy on Monday told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan that his mother asked him to put poison in his father’s food.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adenike Ayodele, the mother of the boy, had petitioned the court to dissolve her 15-year-old marriage to her estranged husband, Adeshina, on grounds of irresponsibility and battery.

In his testimony, the boy told the court that his mother gave him a nylon which contained some powdery substance which she instructed him to pour in his father’s food as well as his bathing water.
“After giving me the substance, my mother warned me never to tell my father or anyone about it.
“However, I love my father and I told him because I never wanted any bad thing to happen to him,” he said.
Earlier, Adenike, who lives at Agbaje area of Orita-challenge, Ibadan, had told the court that Adeshina had turned her into a punching bag.
“At any slight opportunity, my husband beats me.

For 14 years, Adeshina has not stopped beating me and the last one he did was the reason why I made up my mind to call it quits with him.
“On that day, I requested for money for the upkeep of the children and Adeshina gave me a beating resulting in blood dripping from my two ears.

“He also broke one of my legs that day and I am still experiencing the pain till today.
“ Again, on Dec. 5, 2018, Adeshina came to attack me in my shop because he was not happy that my business is doing well despite his inhumane treatment.

“Then, he threatened to ruin my business by all means and what followed was the burgling of my shop two Sundays ago.
“Now, all my means of livelihood have been burgled and I got him apprehended but without any positive result,” Adenike said.
Responding, Adeshina consented to the petitioner’s request for termination of the marriage, but denied all the allegations leveled against him.

“My lord, I had on different occasions given Adenike the children’s school fees.
“Aside that, when one of our children urgently needed a surgery to be performed on him, I gave Adenike the required money for the surgery, but she spent it on herself.

I sent her to school to acquire NCE, but she told the school management that she is a widow which means that I am nothing to her.
“If I give her money to buy anything at home, she doesn’t put my name on the receipt.

“Worst of all, Adenike told our second child to put poison in my food and bathing water, but, the child revealed the secret to me and I informed my relatives about it,”
Adeshina said.
NAN reports that all the witnesses that testified corroborated Adeshina’s submissions.

The petitioner, who was unruly during the court’s proceedings, was asked by the President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, to bring her parents to the court.
Odunade adjourned the case till Feb. 27 for judgment.

The Supreme Court has resumed sitting on Monday with the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, presiding over a five-man panel of the court.

However, a check on the website of the Supreme Court by MEDIAHELM NEWS on Monday which is the first working day after Justice Muhammad purportedly took oath of office as Acting CJN, reveals that the embattled Justice Walter Onnoghen is still recognised as Chief Justice of Nigeria by the Court as no update on his purported suspension was reflected online by the Court’s Chief Registrar, Mrs Hadizatu Mustapha.

Recall that Justice Muhammad was immediately sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari after the ‘suspension’ of Justice Onnoghen as CJN, last Friday.

Meanwhile, other Justices sitting alongside Acting CJN on the Supreme Court panel sitting on Monday include: Justices Mary Peter-Odili, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Amiru Sanusi and Paul Galinje.

CrimeSuspected Fraudster Nabbed With Eight ATM Cards In Katsina by mediaNGR(op): 2:48am On Jan 28, 2019
A 32-year old man, Mohammed Kabir, of Sabon Titin Kwado, Katsina, has been arrested by the police in Katsina State after eight Automated Teller Machine cards belonging to separate banks were found in his possession.

He was alleged to be using the ATM cards to defraud unsuspecting bank customers.

Kabir, who was caught on Wednesday within the premises of a first generation bank along the IBB Way, Katsina, told Northern City News that someone introduced him to the “business” about six months ago.

He said he hung around ATM points and scooped out numbers printed on the ATM cards of unwary customers.

“At times, I would pretend to assist unsuspecting customers, who did not know how to operate the ATM machines, and in the process of doing so, swap their cards with fake ones,” he confessed.

Kabir refused to disclose how much he had made from the act before his arrest.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Wakili, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect had confessed to the crime and that he would be prosecuted after investigation.

“In the cause of investigation, the suspect confessed to have defrauded unsuspecting members of the public, who did not have the knowledge of operating the ATM by changing their ATM cards with fake ones, which he later used to fraudulently withdraw money from the victims’ accounts,” the commissioner said.

Meanwhile, the command has also arrested the duo of Abdulmalik Yusuf, alias Danmaliki, 30, of the Kofar Marusa Quarters, Katsina, and Tukur Abdullahi, 35, of Rawayya village in the Bugundu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

They were said to have kidnapped one Umma Korau, 34, of the Madacin Yan-Nono community, Katsina State.

The CP said the suspects conspired with one Isah Mohammed of Gusau, Zamfara State, who is now at large, to commit the crime.

He said the arrest of Yusuf and Abdullahi followed information volunteered by their victim after her release by her abductors.

SportsEx-Super Eagles player, Efe Sodje And His Brothers Jailed since September 2018 by mediaNGR(op): 5:54pm On Jan 21, 2019
Former Super Eagles World Cup star, Efetobore Sodje,46, and two of his brothers are currently being locked up in Jail for fraud in the UK.

The ex-footballer, alongside his brothers Stephen Sodje, 43, and ex-rugby player Bright Sodje, 52, were given prison sentences for fraud last year.

The three brothers were found to have siphoned off more than £60,000 given to the Sodje Sports Foundation (SSF), a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation found.

They were reportedly jailed in September 2018. Efe Sodje for 18 months, Bright Sodje for 21 months, and Stephen Sodje for two years and six months at the Central Criminal Court in relation to the fraud.

On Monday, a judge at the same court lifted reporting restrictions preventing publication of the result of that trial, following the completion of a separate trial involving their other brother and former Reading and Nigeria footballer Sam Sodje, 39.

Efe, Bright and Stephen Sodje set up the organization in 2009 with the aim to relieve poverty, advance good health in people through the provision of facilities in playing amateur sports and the promotion of lifelong learning, leadership skills and health issues such as HIV/AIDS, drugs abuse, and nutrition in the Niger Delta. But instead, the money they realized at black-tie dinners, auctions, charity football matches, and a clay pigeon shoot, went into their accounts.

PoliticsAmerican Journalist Investigates How Atiku Visit US After Hiring Trump Lobbyist by mediaNGR(op): 5:06pm On Jan 21, 2019
An American journalist and 'Popular Info' blog writer, Judd Legum investigates and give information of how was able Atiku to visit the US through Trump Lobbyist, Brian D Ballard.

Atiku who was banned from the US for 12 years for alleged money laundering.

Here are what Judd Legum wrote:

1. After being banned from entering the U.S. for 12 years, this man showed up at the Trump Hotel last Thursday.

The previously untold story of how he got there illustrates how you can buy influence in Trump's Washington.

2. You might have heard of Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria, because the FBI alleged he demanded a $500K bribe from former Rep William Jefferson. who is currently serving a 13 year jail sentence .

3. Abubakar was also featured in a 2010 Senate report called "KEEPING FOREIGN CORRUPTION OUT OF THE UNITED STATES." It detailed how Abubakar funneled $40 million in "suspect funds" into the U.S.

Siemens admitted to sending a $1.7 million bribe

4. A former government official told Popular Information that, pursuant to a presidential proclamation targeting foreign corruption, Abubakar was barred from obtaining a U.S. visa.

5. His inability to travel to the US was becoming a major issue in Abubakar's campaign for president. Elections are next month.

Then everything changed.

What happened?

Abubakar inked a $1.1 million lobbying contract with a man named Brian Ballard

6. Ballard is one of the most connected lobbyists in the Trump orbit. He ran Trump's Florida operation and before that was a lobbyist for the Trump org in Florida.

Since Trump was elected he's signed up a slew of A-list clients like Amazon and Uber.

7. After a 12 year ban, a couple of months after hiring Ballard, Abubakar was in the U.S. -- he even met with a Congressman and spoke to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Uganda's Finance minister David Bahati, has confirmed that President Yoweri Museveni has ordered his government not to issue or renew licences for sports betting firms.

Bahati said President Museveni issued the directive because of the negative impact the betting craze has had on young people.

“We have received a directive from President Museveni to stop licensing sports betting, gaming and gambling companies. The President has now directed the board which has been regulating them. From now onwards, no new companies are going to be licensed. Those which are already registered, no renewal of licences when they expire” Bahati told a church congregation at Rugarama Hill in Kabale town on Sunday.

Bahati said church leaders who have been against sports betting can now praise the Lord because their prayers have been answered. However, the Ministry of Finance spokesman, Mr Jim Mugunga, said he was unaware of the president's directive but added that he does not doubt it.

CrimeEFCC Arrests Bishop Giniko Obi Accused Of Fraud, Operating Ponzi Scheme In Edo by mediaNGR(op): 11:25pm On Jan 14, 2019
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Benin Zonal Office has arrested a Bishop and suspected fraudster, Giniko Obi, for allegedly defrauding thousands of people of various sums of money running into millions of naira, in the guise of helping them “fight poverty”.

A statement released by the acting spokesperson of the antigraft agency, Tony Orilade, says Obi who is the founder of Beloved Gideon Foundation, based in Agbor, Delta State, with outreaches in Bayelsa, Onitsha, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Benin City, denied any involvement in fraud claiming that he was only “doing the will of God by trying to help the people fight poverty”.

According to Obi, it was his desire and God’s will to see people prosper that led him into operating what appears to be a Ponzi Scheme. Obi who claim to be a consecrated Bishop, possessing a diploma in theology explains thus:

“We write books such as ‘24 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘36 Nuggets for Successful Living’, ‘48 Nuggets for Successful Living’. We organise seminars and conferences on how to be successful. We tell the people to subscribe to these publications. If you subscribe with N10, 800, we give you N15, 000. If you subscribe with N18, 000, we give you N23, 000. I had about 30,000 subscribers and I was paying them”.
According to him, when he left Agbor for Lagos, his desire was to expand his subscription base but his subscribers were impatient.

“If they allowed me to hold the conference in Lagos, I would have paid them,” he claimed. However, some of his victims who have continued to throng the EFCC office, since his arrest, described his as a “fraud”.
One of them, Janet Amaka Okafor, said the Bishop sold a dummy to them by claiming that he was from the famous Gideons International, based in the United States.

According to her

“He organised seminars in Agbor market that he was from Gideons International and that their mission was to help eradicate poverty in Nigeria. “He told us that unlike in the past when Gideons International distributed Bibles and Christian literature, their mission now was to eradicate poverty”.
On how she became a victim of the scheme, Okafor, 35, who claims she has never participated in any ponzi scheme in the past said she fell for his tricks because the “Bishop” swore with the bible.

PoliticsBuhari Shortlists New IG Of Police by mediaNGR(op): 9:51pm On Jan 14, 2019
The presidency has shortlisted an Assistant Inspector General of Police from Nasarawa State as a possible replacement of the retiring Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Idris, who clocks 60 years on Jan. 15, paid “a bye-bye visit’’ to President Buhari on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

NAN reports that the outcome of the closed-door meeting between President Buhari and the IGP was not disclosed as at the time of filing this report.

According to reports, Idris is expected to retire from service on attainment of the mandatory 35 years in service or 60 years of age.

A source close to the presidency, who preferred not to be named, confirmed to NAN that a replacement to the retiring IGP would be named on Tuesday, among the shortlisted candidates.

One of the persons said to be on the shortlist is AIG Adamu Mohammed. If he gets the nod, it means the DIGs may be required to retire.

“Yes, the IGP Ibrahim Idris is retiring tomorrow and possibly an acting Inspector-General maybe named very soon.

“But I will advise that you wait for official statement to that effect,’’ the source maintained.

IGP Idris, who was appointed by President Buhari on June 21, 2016, replaced Solomon Arase, who retired from the police force on same day.

Idris enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1984, after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.

Politics''the Police Are Out To Harm My Brother'' Dino Melaye's Brother, Moses, Cries Ou by mediaNGR(op): 9:10am On Jan 03, 2019
Senator Dino Melaye’s younger brother, Moses, has accused the Federal Government of using the police to turn the Senator’s life into a nightmare. His assertion comes as the police continues to lay a siege outside Melaye's home in Abuja.

Recall that on Friday December 28th 2018, the police stormed Melaye's Abuja home with the aim of arresting him over an alleged murder case. The embattled senator and his men have been accused of attempting to murder a police officer in Kogi state in July 2018. Read here.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV last night, January 2nd, Moses Melaye said the police have made life unbearable for his brother since they started the siege outside his home and that his family believe the police is out to harm him.

“This government and the police have made the life of my brother, Senator Dino Melaye, a living hell for the last few months. The case they are raising against him happened in July. I was there in the car; the policemen shot at us. My car had over six bullets riddled on that car. How can they turn around all of a sudden that we are the ones shooting at the police?

“Our security men and policemen have been taken away since over seven-eight months ago. So, how do we now become the persons shooting? That story is not true. It is unfounded and because of the injustice on a daily basis, we cannot trust or believe anything they do. I believe that they are out to harm my brother. If not, what is the desperation?” he said
Narrating how the police stormed Melaye's Abuja home on December 28th, Moses said

“On this particular occasion, they went into the compound, arrested the security man, beat him up and cuffed him'' he said

PoliticsBuhari, APC Plan To Compromise INEC To Rig 2019 Election –PDP by mediaNGR(op): 4:22pm On Jan 02, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday, accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of compromising the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to rig the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

In a press conference organize by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential Campaign Organization, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, the party called for on urgent investigation into the alleged link between the reportedly diverted military funds and the N1.032 trillion said to have been used by President Muhammadu Buhari’s family members for corrupt acquisition in 9 Mobile Nigeria and Keystone Bank PLC.

The PPCO calls for an independent and system-wide investigation by the INTERPOL, Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the alleged links between the two funds.

This concerted investigation has become imperative following President Buhari’s failure to directly speak out on the allegations against his family members, as well as explain how they came about the sum of N1.032 trillion for the alleged acquisition.

We make this demand in view of public insinuations that the money may have been sourced from funds meant for the purchase of weapons for our soldiers.

More so, the Buhari Presidency has blatantly refused to respond to allegations that military fund is being used to finance President Buhari’s re-election campaign which even manifested in the use of military resources to produce APC’s campaign materials, including an electronic momento book by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali.

The PPCO is deeply worried by the disturbing videos of our gallant soldiers languishing and being killed by insurgents due to neglect and failure of the Buhari administration to adequately equip them in the fronts.

The PPCO is also unhappy by similar videos, showing our soldiers protesting and threatening to retreat from the fronts, while grumbling against their neglect by the Buhari administration.

This should not be the way to go for our nation. Our soldiers are brave and have continued to show the highest form of professionalism and unmatched patriotism in risking and laying down their lives in defence of fatherland. Therefore, any action by anybody that is capable of reducing their morale in the fronts must never be allowed.

The PPCO invites Nigerians to continue to be at alert and give all support to our fighting troops as the fight against terrorism in our land must continue to be a collective effort. We therefore insist on this inquest and urge Nigerians to give their support in this regard.

Also, the attention of the PPCO has been drawn to a vicious attempt by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to use diversionary tactics to dismiss allegations of corruption hanging directly on President Muhammadu Buhari. The APC is attempting to dismiss revelations that family members of President Buhari’s involvement in acquiring substantial shares in both the 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank Plc that is worth over a N1 trillion.

We want Nigerians to note that the PDP had already challenged President Buhari to personally speak out on these allegations. We note that President Buhari had the occasion of the launch of his campaign in Akwa Ibom last week and his New year address to deny these grave allegations but he decided to shy away from it.

The PPCO unequivocally stands by its actions that President Muhammadu Buhari has soiled his hands on corruption enrichments and has resorted to sending his aides to put up frivolous defenses. We hereby insist that Mr. President should rise in defence of his best-selling point-assumed integrity-by personally responding to the 9 Mobile and Keystone Bank-gate

The PPCO cautions the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood to immediately disentangle himself and his commission from the fresh plot by the APC and the Buhari Presidency to compromise the electoral guideline and pave the way for the alteration of the results of the 2019 general election to favour President Buhari.

We urge Prof. Yakubu to note that Nigerians are already aware of the pressure being placed on him by the Buhari Presidency and APC seeking to force the commission to drop the display of results at the polling units as well as the electronic transmission of polled figures to INEC server from its guidelines.

The Buhari Presidency is desperate to remove these requirements because the display of results at the polling units ensures that results posted at all levels remain those originally announced at the various polling units, while the electronic transmission to INEC server ensures that the results from the polling centers are not tampered with. PDP also demands that INEC allows both local and international observers to its situation room to ensure that the final figures are not tampered with.

The APC and Buhari Presidency are mounting pressure on INEC to drop the requirements so as to pave way for their planned alteration of results and allocation of fictitious figures to President Buhari during the collation process.

Prof. Yakubu must not succumb to the pressure of the Buhari Presidency, because doing so will definitely set him on a collision course with Nigerians.

This demand has become imperative in the face of allegations and public apprehensions that the INEC Chairman is being offered humongous sums of money, running into billions of naira, by agents of the APC and the cabal at the Buhari Presidency to accede to their demands.

Keystone Bank
Information at our disposal further reveals that the INEC Chairman has been under pressure from this group said to be coordinated by President Buhari’s blood relation in INEC, who, we are surprised, Prof Yakubu still allows around himself.

Prof. Yakubu is now counseled to distance himself from these very dangerous racketeers and the commission from this very dangerous racket, as Nigerians will directly hold him responsible should these two important guidelines that guarantee transparency in the elections suddenly disappear from the INEC manual.

It has further come to our knowledge that the INEC Chairman is contemplating the deployment of past National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) members for the 2019 election.

The PPCO totally rejects this ignoble intention which is a ploy to use APC card-carrying members as polls officers.

It is very instructive to state that the on going ASUU strike has not by any measure evacuated its members from the surface of the earth.

Therefore, if INEC sought to use the members of ASUU for the 2019 elections, the on going strike will not be an excuse to deploy APC members.

We totally reject these plots to thwart electoral transparency in 2019 and we invite lovers of democracy and global democratic institutions to show more than a passing interest in our democratic process.

On the whole, the PPCO invites Prof. Yakubu to bear in mind that all what Nigerians demand for is a transparent, free, fair and credible election that reflects only the will of the people, as directly expressed at the ballot. Any attempt by anybody, to subvert the will of the people will be highly resisted by Nigerians, in their determined resolve to elect a new President, come February 16, 2019.
