So many persons just put the car in 'drive' and drive. How many persons know the function of the '1', '2', & '3' in some automatic transmission gear system? You can overtake anything if you know your way around driving. Automatic still offers some form of control.

As much as I love the control the manual offers, one has to take into cognizance the road s/he is driving on. For the average Lagos road and traffic, abeg, I'd prefer an automatic transmission. I once had a muscle pull while on traffic cos of the constant clutching.

Politics / Nigeria-eu Trade In Danger As Buhari Drags Feet In Signing Economic Partnership by megawax8: 1:07pm On Sep 08, 2016
Nigeria may soon lose the special treatment on issues of trade with Europe should it continue to drag its feet on the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the Economic Communities of West Africa States (ECOWAS) and the European Union (EU).
Head of Trade and Economic Section, EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Fillipo Amato gave this hint in Abuja on Wednesday during a media workshop on EPA.

Amato, who said countries from the region that fail to sign the agreement before October 1, 2016, would cease to have preferential treatment from Europe on issues of trade, allayed fears that the agreement would put the Nigerian industrial sector into jeopardy.
“I’m surprise about the argument and debates over the EPA agreement. All the fears that the market would be flooded are unfounded,” he said.
“We don’t see Africa as a dumping ground. Our interest is to promote African industries and economic integration, and is not about protecting our industries,” the EU envoy added.

On his part, the Director of Trade, ECOWAS Commission, Dr Gbenga Obideyi, dispelled rumours making the round that there was a hidden agenda on the EPA agreement, and called on Nigeria to leverage on it to shore up the level of international trade and development.

According to Obideyi, out of the 16 countries in the West Africa region, only Nigeria, Gambia and Mauritania are yet to sign the agreement.
In the same vein, ECOWAS Commission’s Programme Officer, Multilateral Trade, Mr Kolawole Sofola, who also threw more light on EPA, said countries in the region stand to benefit 6.5 billion Euro as grant to develop infrastructures within the first five years (2015-2020) of the agreement.
According to Sofola, out of the total grant, Nigeria would get a large chunk of 2.8 billion Euro to finance some of its priority projects.

Just like that, they decided to shoot the first car?

The person that gave the information didn't tell them the car to expect?

Was there even an information or they just heard gunshots and reacted?

I am optimistic that before the end of Buhari's administration, all the naysayers and the irredeemable pessimists will chew their own statement like Metuh.

A change is not change until there is a change. The pain of change we are experiencing today is a result of our fear to change in yesteryear. Thus, the present pain can not be compare to the future glory ahead of this country.

As much as i want to believe and i pray it happens too, it wouldn't take miracles.

What are the plans we have to ensure the 'future glory'?

This development arose from a rise of N725.6 billion or 63.3 per cent in the value of exports (largely due to exchange rate gains)

The bolded in the quote just shows almost nothing has been done differently.

yea....i am glad not to be you,,,not seeing opportunitis...during jonthan,no matter how i tried,i always end up more messed up...-..

some became billionars??...how does that help me??...

bros...i am telling you,,,,i am doing well, and i have weekend.....i am happy...and people around me are happy...not all of them have jobs, but they are happy when i meet them,i help out if i can and they help me too......one of my neighbors helped me get my job...i help in by anythings he wants to be done....

open your mind....hating a moslem will bring you nothing...i bought land just in a half year of realy saving.........imagine! shocked

its mine....i have the documents...

First, I don't hate Buhari, I am Nigerian. I only said he should get his acts together.

That you help people around you automatically means our GDP as a nation is improving? Please, school me!

That you bought a land is now making you overjoyed to think all is well? It's your first property, you probably should.

Keep helping your neighbours, I totally support that. For how long though? I am sure they are content with the help you give them and they'd buy their own lands too.

PS: I have a job that prolly pays better than yours.

lie, like how??..i lost everything too during 2008....since then gained nothing....but,since buhari,i felt the change...in only 1 year after election i got a job....that i still have till today...in only a half year savings,i bought 1plot farmland in ibadan(or small garden? wink)....just laying their, unused, but is mine.......i am planning to study more in my job...more money-reverses....suddenly i dont care about money,no more...i concentrate only on my construction job....

And you think in 2008 the whole nation lost their jobs?

That you have one now shouldn't make you glad. The unemployment rate just rose from 12 to 13% in one month, I am not sure if the year to date figure but a quick Google search would help you.

I guess those complaining(I.e almost everyone) just love noise making. The situation is bad, let's call a spade a shade.

Like a friend always says, Putting a finger on the problem is the beginning of the solution that problem.

Hmmm Still blaming Buhari for the recession and loss of jobs in the
banking sector? You need to read this:
"Don't mind this restless Buhari critic. I was with
Intercontinental Bank in 2009 when the Banking sector
tsunami swept away all my colleagues in the banks Sanusi
Lamido Sanusi claimed they were on the brink of failure.
I was with Access Bank in 2010 when the gale of sack
continue in the industry. Access and other Banks lay off
tradition madness continued till li left the country in 2015.
In Dec 2015 and Jan 2016 till now the now the storm ranges
unabated. So what's new?
Buhari was never part of the government during this period
under review. Dollar was not scarce to be 1 to N400. Though
there was structural looting and corruption but it wasn't this
appaling.
No budget padding. The government did not publicly come
out to tell us the economy was in recession during that time
rather they said Nigeria has overtaken South Africa as the
Africa fastest growing economy.
Nigeria bankers know today tomorrow someday the chicken
will come home to roast and they will be out of job.
Amukun eru e woo. .. o ni oke le nwo e ko wo isale.
Something is seriously and fundamentally wrong with the
foundation of our country, it's principle, policy and polity." -

I believe the said write up is one sided and not totally true. As much as I agree that something is fundamentally wrong with the country's principles and policy, the present government has indirectly made it worse

@OP True.

I doubt there would be an exit from the present recession by this year end, rather I see things getting worse.

The government needs to operate with a clear and stable policy/roadmap which tackles the problems directly and not keep gambling with ideas.

The MPC's decision to raise the rates was just so foolish.

Like the OP rightly said, the inflation wasn't caused by excess money supply in the system, so why tighten the system?

Secondly, raising rates to attract foreign investors? Really? Yes, our fixed income securities(bonds and Bills) would have better yields and would seem attractive, but would I invest in someone with zero future cash flow?
Why would I trap my money? In plain English, would you lend a huge sum of money to someone without a job or a plan to get one? What exit plan does the country's economy guarantee them? Truth is, they wouldn't come!!

Next, we keep shouting diversification, yes, it's a fantastic idea, but I think the government should show us it's plans towards diversification and not just telling us all to go to the farms.

Increasing food supply within the country would ease our imports greatly, but these transactions would still be naira based or are individuals supposed to export themselves?

There should be a mop up/rebranding strategy for the 'diversification' call in the agric sector at least to ensure we boost our export hence improve our foreign exchange returns(the actual thing that put us in this mess). Other sectors needs plans and focus too.

The country is in a mess and would only get worse.

I wouldn't usually do this, but the Buhari and APC administration seriously need to sit up
