Business / Nigeria’s July Inflation Accelerates To 17.1% - Highest In 11 Years by megawax8: 10:37am On Aug 31, 2016
Inflation rise to 17.1 Percent

Meanwhile Nigeria’s economy probably contracted for a second consecutive quarter in the three months ended June from a year earlier after shrinking 0.4 percent in the previous period, according to a Bloomberg survey. Output in Africa’s most populous nation is weighed down by low oil production and prices, as well as a shortage of foreign currency after the central bank held a naira peg for more than a year. The statistics office is scheduled to release gross domestic product data at 9 a.m. in Lagos on Wednesday.

Nigerian inflation accelerated for the ninth consecutive month in July, adding to pressure on the central bank to continue raising interest rates even as the economy deteriorates.

The inflation rate in West Africa’s largest economy increased to 17.1 percent from 16.5 percent in June, the Abuja-based National Bureau of Statistics said in an e-mailed statement on Wednesday. That’s the highest rate since October 2005, according to data on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s website. The median of 16 economist estimates compiled by Bloomberg was 17.3 percent. Prices rose 1.3 percent in the month.

The central bank maintained restrictions that block importers of selected items from steel products to rice from accessing the foreign currency inter-bank market even after removing a naira peg on June 20. Fuel shortages also pushed up consumer prices, adding to inflation pressure caused by the more than one-third loss in the value of the naira since it was allowed to float.

“Inflation will continue to accelerate, reaching about 20 percent later this year,” John Ashbourne, a London-based economist at Capital Economic Ltd., said before the data was released. “One of the big factors right now is the devaluation of the naira.”

Food inflation accelerated to 15.8 percent from 15.3 percent. The cost of gasoline declined to 148 naira from 149 naira in June, the statistics agency said in a separate statement.

The central bank raised its benchmark interest rate by 200 basis points to 14 percent last month to fight inflation and prop up the currency by luring foreign investors. Governor Godwin Emefiele will announce the bank’s next policy move on Sept. 20. The economy will probably contract 1.8 percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund.

With inflation accelerating “we expect at least another 100 basis points hike this year,” Raza Agha, an economist in London at VTB Capital, said by e-mail before the data was released.

So, after much PERSONAL analysis, i would advice:

91 days: 14.60% - 14.90%
182 days: 16.90% - 17.20%
364 days: 17.60 - 17.90%

I agree with feelamong, the system is still liquid but with OMO's both yesterday and this morning, i think there is hope for investors. I suspect a second OMO today still(i might be wrong though).

...Abeg keep quiet!!...you are here yapping about girls being promisciuos in ebony.i grew up in Lagos and i know for a fact that lots of our Yoruba unmarried ladies got pregnant at one point or the other and all had babies out of wed-lock with their people not batting an eye-lid to our amazement.There-fore teenage female promiscuity cuts across every nook and cranny of this nation.

...Besides who do these girls sleep with??...is not your fellow morally bankrupt males who will not allow these girls grow before harassing them for relationship?? Or raping them?..their is now an increase in female toddlers and babies sexual molestation by men and one begins to wonder what exactly is going on in this country...so stop all these one-sided condemnation.

...Condemn and speak out against moral bankrupcy and promiscuity from both male and female teenagers and adult alike..so that maybe, just maybe there will be an improvement.

My first instinct was not to reply you, but then, you'd go about doing same to another.

Reason i've been here for so long and almost don't comment. MUST YOU INSULT? what point did you pass across really by saying 'keep quiet' or 'my fellow morally bankrupt males'?

My fellow? really?

Please remind me where we met again.

To the points you think you made, if you had read clearly, you'd see where i wrote "Something has to be done to rewire ourselves to understand that we all have a role to play in correcting abnormalities in our society.(This includes kids having boyfriends and girlfriends at a tender age)".

OURSELVES in that comment, includes me as an individual and means both males and females alike. Also, ABNORMALITIES IN OUR SOCIETY isn't restricted to the girls behaviour or the behaviour of those that maltreated her, its all encompassing.

Do read my post again, you'd notice it was never a one-sided condemnation.

I never said she deserved the treatment she got. Infact, it angers me a lot.

Was reacting to the expression used by the journalist and the whole story as published from day 1.

But in as much as the action by the men is wrong, I just can't be completely be sober. This is because we are forgetting their claim of her constantly laying with other men at her age. If that is okay with you, it isn't with me.

I served in Ebonyi state and I know how promiscuous they can get. A jss2 student in my ppa got pregnant at the time, who knows if she had contracted some infection or something else as a souvenir. Something has to be done to rewire ourselves to understand that we all have a role to play in correcting abnormalities in our society.(This includes kids having boyfriends and girlfriends at a tender age).

So even if she's innocent, let's also sound it that children should not do a couple of things. Like I earlier said, there's no smoke without fire.

I think he was merely saying, seeing 15 years girls these days having boy friends is not a new thing. I believe the truth is gradually coming out. I never believed the story of those foolish old men that tortured the teenager.

As expected, she has a boyfriend

As expected

Its now normal or generally acceptable for a JSS2 student or even a 15year old to have a boyfriend? For what reason actually?

To the story, i never believed what was initially said. This sounds a bit logical now. Closer to the truth though because i trust there's definitely more to it.

Jobs/Vacancies / Probable Reason You Don't Have That Dream Job - A Must Read!!! by megawax8: 11:39am On Aug 09, 2016
Culled from: Zero To Greatness Network group on Facebook

Today, I had a conversation with my neighbour’s wife.
She was trying to sell me wall decorations for my place, which I politely declined.
As I spoke with her outside her flat, her 2-year-old son made a noise inside the house…and I called him.
I carried him against my chest and tried to make him smile.
It didn’t work.
I’m good with kids, but I just can’t seem to hit it off with the boy.
While I was doing this, our conversation went towards jobs and career.
I used to think she had decided to be a stay at home mum…but I was mistaken. She wanted to work, but she hadn’t been able to get a job.
I asked her what type of job she was looking for.
She replied, “Any job…any good job…no, a federal job.”
Usually, when a person tells me this, I know it will take them a while to get a job…simply because they are not specific. They are not clear on what they want, and this absence of focus makes it difficult for them to get help. Their network will not know how to help them or what to look out for.

An example: If a person tells you, “I’m looking for any good job.” and another person tells you, “I’m looking for a job in HR.”, who would you call first when you hear of a job opening in Admin?
Yeah. You have your answer.
Even if the second person didn’t tell you Admin, you will call her first.

Focus is key.

Back to my conversation.
I asked her how the job hunt was going.
She had finished NYSC since 2014 and had not gotten a job since then. In the interim, she had gotten married, but still wanted a job.
Here’s a paraphrase of what she told me:
“Uchendu, I’ve gone for interviews, nothing really happens. Probably it’s because I want a federal job…and the way the country is now…it’s just not easy. All the Jobberman, Push CV etc…I’ve used all of them…nothing.”
The words above…the mindset behind the words is the main reason people find it difficult to get jobs.
In plain English – they use negative words to describe their situation to people.
Here’s what I told her:
“Ok...I’m going to give you two illustrations, and I’ll ask you a question after that. Ask me: ‘Uchendu, how’s your job search going?’”
She asked.

My first illustration: “I don’t just understand. I have applied to many places, I’ve had like 5 interviews, and I still haven’t gotten any job. The worst part is that, I’m a grown man…and I cannot even send money to my people at home. And with the way the country is now. It’s really difficult. I just don’t understand.”

I told her, “That’s the first one...ask me the question again.” She did.
My second illustration: “I’ve applied to a number of places. I did 5 interviews, 4 of which I know I did very well and expect to be called very soon. Nothing yet, but I’m confident one of those 4 will definitely work out.”
I then asked her, “If you were told of a job opportunity that just opened up, which of these people will you call first about it?”
Her reply, “The second one.”

My reply to her, “You will call the second one…right? Why do you then speak like the first one?”
Here reply, “[long pause]…hmmm...”

The negativity of the first person’s answer would make you not call him first, even if he needs the opportunity more.
You would call the positive person, who believes in his efforts and his chances of success.
The negativity of the negative person pushes the opportunity away from him.
This, I believe, is the main reason why people do not get opportunities.
They push good people and good chances for breakthrough away from them with their words.
And they sit stagnant, wondering why life has dealt them a bad hand.
The problem is not life’s hand.

Many times people use their words to dig the graves their opportunities are buried in.
But it can all change, with a simple move from negative words to positive words.
This may sound cliché, but many timeless truths are hidden behind clichés.
BE POSITIVE.

My final question is, How in the world did Falconry leapfrog Kinginvahala and Photo shoot into 4th Position?? ?

Which authority are they going to hand them over?.... even ihiagwa vigilantee know these guys.... there was a time my friends and I were going to eziobodo from eismann around 10pm, these theives were at the futo back gate robbing people and inflicting injuries on them with cutlas, we informed ihiagwa vigilantee and they came with their bus to that eismann junction.... believe me these vigilantee guys refused to approach those thieves, telling us that those guys and not thieves that they are just students... When they relunctantly managed to near that futo back gate those theives entered the bush and they (vigilantee) set one tyre ablaze there and left..... those theives returned back and continue with their robbery..... we had to follow that ihiagwa road leading to eziobodo village that night. ....

If the students had handed those thieves to the vigilantees or the police, they will be released and the best day their robbery continues....

As for their gangs retaliating.... guys are prepared for them....

If you don't trust the police or vigilante, take the person to obinze barracks. Even if he leaves there, I'm sure he would be on very good behavior going forward.

NB: you don't expect the police to kill them, do you? For every crime, the law has the punishment set aside for it.

This is so right..... Enter a taxi to umuchima (laffarge precisely) and you will see some guys with different bandages as a result of these thieves cruelty.... they will rob you (your phones and other valuables) and still stab or cut you with knife too... At a point bike men started charging students above 200 naira (50 or 100 naira for normal price depending on where you are coming from) just to take you to umichima because they are not even sure if they will return back with their bikes...cos these thieves rob them their bikes and inflict injuries on them too......I witnesed their killing and I'm happy.......

Securities here are not even helpful.... they will arrest these guys And still release them to continue from where they stopped....

I support this jungle justice 100%...

And all you wrote here justifies you taking a life you cannot create?

I do not in any way support stealing or robbery, but like we all know, for every action, there's a reaction.

What was achieved by this action?
Send a message to the thieves that they would be lynched when caught?

We both know they'd rob in umuchima this week.....lol. If the indigenes don't rob, cultists would.

And you guys just succeeded in making them more aggressive and dangerous. Congratulations.

How to better secure the environment should be what proactive students should do. Instead of negotiating with vigilante, man'o war or the school authority to assist in any way, you result to killing people.

I stayed in Amic lodge(Umuchima) in FUTO for 5 years. One session, lodges in the onyia towers - playboy mansion axis decided to pay some Hausa men for security purposes. That was the most peaceful nights I had till students decided the men were asking for too much and stopped paying. No need to ask, the robbery continued.

Please, always hand criminals over to authority. Let the law decide.

Imagine the risks you guys took.
The escapee could have returned with friends and shot sporadically in attempt to rescue their partner OR the person you were happily burning could have in a bid to not go down alone, summoned strength, ran towards an unexpecting spectator and hugged him to burn and die too.

You don't create life, so NEVER take it.

NSE Launches Recruitment Portal

Thursday, July 27, 2016

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE or “The Exchange”) has launched an online portal to attract top talent and optimize its recruitment process. The recruitment portal which is expected to enhance the Exchange’s recruitment capability, increase turnaround time and provide a consumer-friendly candidate experience, will handle all aspects of recruitment, from application, to scheduling interviews and onboarding of new hires.

Speaking on this development, Pai Gamde, Head, Human Resources, NSE, noted that “technological advances have streamlined almost all business functions and the Human resource function is not an exception. By taking our recruitment process online through our website, we have developed a secure platform to capture, reach out and engage with qualified candidates who can support our continuing drive for growth in the Nigerian capital market”.

“The entire recruitment process is automated from start to finish. This in turn allows for rapid feedback and real time updates on whether an applicant has been successful or if the vacancy has already been filled. The platform also provides a fully responsive design, optimizing the site for mobile and desktop to provide a consistent, user-friendly experience on any device”, she added.

On her part, Chinelo Chukuma-Onwujei, Team Lead, Talent Management, NSE said, “The portal which can be accessed from the careers section of the NSE website supports the Exchange’s position on diversity and equal opportunities. Through the portal, job seekers interested in joining the NSE team can efficiently search for jobs suited to their interests and capabilities, create resumes and submit applications for specific open positions listed on our website, in addition to submitting resumes for future general or specific consideration”.

The Exchange strives to sustain its employment value proposition by creating and maintaining a culture that develops talent, increases internal competition, promotes innovation, diversity, and provides opportunities for every employee to succeed to the full extent of their abilities. The Nigerian Stock Exchange recently received the 2016 Employer of Choice award in the Under 1,000 Employees category from the HR Peoples Magazine.
