I agree with you.
At least a B2 is REQUIRED for any vocational training or for jobs that requires a German proficiency.

Go for the language school, with ONLY intent of language learning, or settle for Goethe Institut nearest to you.

B2 is only required for particular Ausbildungen like Nursing. A lot of apprenticeships that don't require a lot of technical language accept B1 but yeah they should aim for B2 since they are going for nursing. Also yeah they definitely shouldn't let any language school take their money in the name of applying for them. They can apply on their own.

I highly doubt any credibility to Germany Visa fast track. Although if you plan well, you may not have to wait so long to have appointment date. Like if you are just starting your A1, and for Nursing I believe you’ll need to learn up to B2, so during the course of you learning the language (which will take you say 1year minimum) if you have applied for the the application, it will be counting down and coincide with the time your appointment will reach 1year.

With an Ausbildungsvertrag (Ausbildung contract) and a Vorabzustimmung zum Visum (pre approval letter) you can get a date within three weeks. Your training establishment/company are the ones to create/apply for both documents. This is the fast track the language school is probably referring to.

Travel / Need A Sworn German Translator In Lagos by megaxart(m): 7:39pm On Jan 18, 2023
Hello everyone. I'm in need of a certified and sworn German translator situated in Lagos to translate some personal documents of mine. If anyone could help with contacts of certified and sworn English to German Translators in Lagos I'd be very grateful.

Does anyone know where I can get contacts of certified and sworn German Translators in Lagos? I've already contacted the embassy since the 1st of January and haven't gotten a response till now.

This was where you categorically stated that he qualifies as a native speaker of English. I only earlier said what he is not a native speaker of English language despite that Nigeria is English speaking country.
Someone else said the same thing where we suggested either he presents the test results or explain for a waiver, or request for English as language of instruction from his former sch.

After back and forth messages... You are now agreeing with my first comment-"Nigeria is not a native English speaker but English speaking country and he can appeal for a waiver".

And I still stand by the fact that he is a native English speaker (if it his in fact his first language). Your argument is that he is not because he's Nigerian and that is flat out wrong going by the definition of what a native speaker is. I in no way agreed with your first comment you need to re read, it's possible you missed something. I am saying that someone being a native speaker is judged individually (A country like the UK has many individuals who aren't native speakers of English). I stated that he should use the fact that he is from an English speaking country to emphasise the validity of the fact that English is his mother tongue, simple as that. It's not even that complicated and at the end of the day it's the school that will decide to rightfully regard him as a native English speaker (and again, they'd be right to do so). This has been drawn out too long and we are cluttering the forum at this point.

It's good you are gradually admitting that Nigeria or Nigerians are not native speakers and you are shifting from the initial argument. Your definition is correct but on the broader sense your argument is a bit faulty because being a native speaker, and in the context being discussed cannot be defined in isolation or based on individuals. It has to be based on your citizenship.

In this context of a student seeking an admission, being native speaker or having English Language as your mother tongue means the language is well spoken by everyone in your home country. How many Nigerians speak in English Language, I mean as the main medium of communication?

Although you admitted that more of the younger generation now speaks more in English Language but I also see that as an error of hasty generalization because the "younger generation" is not defined. Up to 30 years or under 10 years? So, concluding that "overwhelmingly large proportions of Nigerians are native speakers" may also be incorrect!

Most people who speak in English and assuming we are using your definition of native speakers, are the children of elites or those whose parents can afford good private schools.

The rest and I'm my own opinion, who are the majority can only communicate in English and cannot be described as native speakers!

How many Nigerians can understand what is being said when the real native speakers talk? It's not only being able to speak it; can you understand the real native speakers? This doesn't mean he cannot get an exemption for his admission but claiming to be a native speaker may be far from being true.

So, the conclusion is still that Nigeria may be an English speaking country but NOT a native speaker!

Look at this point I don't really care anymore. I've argued with facts and definitions. He can tell the university and they can consider him as a native speaker (which he rightfully would be). If they do not that'd be quite a shame. Have a nice day.

Well, this has been thoroughly addressed so no need to continue unnecessary discussion and repititons.

Summary: Nigeria is an English speaking country but NOT a native speaker.

For the last time. A native speaker of a language is a person who has acquired that language inadvertently from birth as their FIRST language. If your argument is that not every Nigerian is a native English speaker you'd be correct however an overwhelmingly large proportion of Nigerians (especially of the younger generation) are native English speakers. And again, I'm not referring to heritage language or indigenous language because they are not the same thing. The word mother tongue is a direct translation of the German word "Muttersprache" and both words mean the first language you learn as a child. If he learnt English as a first language he qualifies as a native speaker of English, that's the end of that.

What you fail to realize is that English is a language of some people like any other, French, dutch etc. For you to qualify as mother tongue, you must be from an English parent. If you like learn English from Day 0, you are not English native.

Google will help you with any issues you have regarding definitions. Have a nice day.

You're right... Official language means lingua franca. But can Nigerians in different regions communicate if you ban English language? Yes they can using mother language, but if you ban English in native English countries, there will be no communication except for those who learned a foreign language.

That's the difference.

Nativity in language is what's left when all other learned languages are removed.

You can argue though, it just wouldn't change anything.

In the end it's the University that will determine if they see him as a native English speaker so there's no point in jumping through hoops trying to make a checklist of what qualifies English as someone's mother tongue.

You can drag from now till eternity... Nigerians are not native English speakers.
I'm reiterating it so you won't go out there and make these claims to the amusement of others.

As for your last question, if you know how to speak only English, that's your own loss of mother tongue and nativity, it doesn't and will not change the fact.

Native English language countries are not the same as English speaking countries.
In Africa, only Sierra Leone and Liberia are considered native English speakers, all other African countries speaks English as lingua franca.

You can only appeal for a waiver based on lingua franca.

If after 200 years, English is now spoken by everyone in Germany, Germany will only become an English speaking country and not a native English/mother language.

Do your own findings the basis for mother tongue and nativity of language.

You may possibly not know what the meaning of "mother tongue" is and I implore you to find that out, it's a Google away. I never claimed that Nigeria was a Native English Speaking country I claimed that it was an *"ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY"*. Our laws and education system are fully based on and written in the English language so I don't get where you are getting your ideas from. A Native speaker of a language is someone who acquires that language as a first language from birth through inadvertent acquisition.

I personally am a native speaker of English because I was raised with English by my parents. For whatever reason you may be mixing up the term native language with the language of an individual's tribal origins and they are not in any way, shape or form the same thing. The school simply stated that if English is not your mother tongue you need to provide evidence of proficiency, all he needs do is state that English is in fact his mother tongue and hammer on the fact that he originates from an English speaking country and has gone through over 16 years of Education and schooling in English.

If after all this the school still refuses to let him go forward without proof of proficiency then he can go through other means but misinforming him based on what you think the meaning of "mother tongue" is will help nobody. Have a nice day.

Lolz. The same way being born in the US doesn't change your color same way for English.

I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense at all. The official language of Nigeria is English. The English we speak in Nigeria isn't Latin. What brings colour and the US into this?

Let's not be ignorant, Nigerians do not qualify as native speakers.

If I learn Hausa, and I'm from the South South, I do not qualify as a Hausa native speaker and I have to prove as whoever needs it wants.

Let's not speak without facts. The fact that Nigeria has a high illiterate population does not invalidate the fact that it is an ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY. I'm not talking about learning a second language or whatever language your parents speak. The first language that you learn from birth is your native language/mother tongue regardless of your ethnicity or place of origin. He's from an English speaking country (Nigeria) and if his first language is English then he is a native speaker of English.

It's funny that you'd say this but many Nigerians only know how to speak English. What would be their mother tongue according to you then?

Is your mother tongue English?
Nigeria only speaks English as second language.
You can ask if they would accept a waiver based on English as your second/official language, education in English or a letter from your university that English was the language of instruction.

Otherwise, you need any of the English tests

Some countries were English language is their mother tongue are England/UK, USA, parts of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some other island countries.

The national language of Nigeria is English. If he was raised speaking English he therefore qualifies as a native speaker of English. He wouldn't even need a waiver. He should clarify to the university that he originates from an English speaking country, this could be coming from ignorance on the university's part.

If you can't differentiate between English Language as a mother tongue and English Language as an official or second language, you may actually need to submit the requested letter grin

A mother tongue/native language is the first language you learn to speak. If the first language he learnt to speak was English then English is in fact his mother tongue. There's no need for this jest.

Education / Is There A Way To Get My NECO Certificate Earlier? by megaxart(m): 8:48pm On Dec 16, 2022
I wrote the June/July NECO exam in 2019 and I'm in a desperate need of the original certificate itself (neither statement of result nor printout). I've contacted the school and they said it's not ready and that I'd likely have to wait till either mid next year or 2024 but I need it much earlier than then. Is there any way to go about getting it earlier?

Thanks once again. With the pre -approval letter you were able to apply for the skilled workers visa category and get a date within 3 weeks from booking right?

sorry can’t tell you the hospital and yes I did an Anerkennung for 100€.you need waec and ur waec transcript from ur secondary school from ss1-ss3.u need the certified copy of these two documents .the rest is always on their website ..

No problem. Also thank you so much. On reading the requirements for Anerkennung on various authorities websites all I've come across say that you need a residency permit in the respective German state, how did you go about this while still being in Nigeria? Also Is the process the same for NECO? And what do you think I can do if the neco certificate for my set isn't ready yet? Can I use the school's statement of result?

Really sorry for all the questions but I can't find any good sources on this.

Thank you so much. I'll go there tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Hello I checked for the progress of my passport at Alausa yesterday and this time instead of "AA" they wrote "UP". What does it mean?

I'm guessing they mean:

Awaiting approval- AA
Undergoing production -UP

But could anyone confirm and how quickly should my passport be ready after it starts showing UP?

It was Alausa PCO that made this announcement herself this morning in the waiting room outside meant for people who want to collect their passport.

If any officer at Alausa tells you that you will get an sms at as today, just believe they just said that to discharge you. The PCO said it today in the hall that they are not sending sms again because the method has some issues. They are working on a better effective approach as regards sms which they will communicate when it is ready.

She also mentioned that people should not follow the three weeks collection date written on the collection slip. That's if you are a DIYer. The 3 weeks is the stardard they plan to achieve according. She really gave genuine information.

So all July passports are ready?

If you captured at Alausa passport office July downwards, kindly go and pickup your passport as it's ready for collection according to immigration officers over there. They are having issues with the SMS platform therefore you might not get any message from them.

Wait do you mean July or June? Because I was there last week and I was asked to check back in 2-3 weeks. It'd be amazing if it was ready already

For DIY that's not at all realistic but I'm not sure, it's possible they've cleared up their backlog. But if you 100% need it before the end of November I'd advice you to either postpone your plans or get someone to "Fast track" it for you, just so you don't get disappointed.
