PoliticsRe: Attorney General, Lacks Power To Direct Bayelsa Chief Judge To Swear In Wike by Meiji(m): 4:27pm On May 21, 2015
His suggestion seems reasonable and may actually help remove possible grounds to contest the swearing in.

Anyway Wike will be governor of Rivers State no matter what happens.

In serious countries we don't have multiple agencies performing duplicate functions - we have a centralized police force with different departments to handle different elements of policing, inspection and maintenance of law and order.

This country is a joke.
PoliticsRe: What I’ll Do First When I Get In To Office – Buhari by Meiji(m): 3:31pm On May 21, 2015
Buhari spoke at the Imo International Convention Centre, Owerri, on Tuesday while on his first official visit to the state after winning the presidential election on March 28, 2015, according to a PUNCH report

“I have done it before, I know how to do it and I will do it again, more especially when Igbos are more of traders and businessmen,” he told the massive crowd.

He urged Imo people to re-elect the Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, in next Saturday’s governorship election.
Why is a thread from last month being resurrected? To what end? Where did Buhari say he will make $1=N1? Why was this not reported in the mainstream dailies? Who or what is "MaxNaija.com"?

Like someone earlier in the thread, Westminster had to give the green light before the Scottish referendum could take place. Have you read about the drama in Spain over the government's refusal to grant the Catalonians their request for a similar referendum?

There's no way you can have a referendum without approval from Abuja (and you can be sure that won't happen).

In any case, my earnest desire is a restructuring of this country to make it fairer to its constituent parts. And that won't happen until oil runs out.

Col Joe Achuzia one of the leaders of Biafra and LNC is from Delta State.

As much as we are not forcing anybody, if any our people in Delta State want to come along, please dont stop them.
I actually do believe that the long-term interests of the SE and SS are aligned. Unlike you, however, I believe that association should be economic, not political.

If you invest sufficiently in human capital and infrastructure (say for the next 20 years) the region may become sufficiently richer than the rest of the country, then you'll be in a position to dictate terms and get a fair deal from the Nigerian state. Until then, forget secession because an oil-dependent Nigeria will NEVER grant it.

“He may be allowed to play a major role in the National politics. By virtue of the experience that he had garnered in the last many years, he is preeminently qualified to continue to play leading roles in the affairs of this republic.

ba7man:
The question should be:

(1) How much debt does Lagos have compared to the FG??

(2) What did Lagos do with the monies borrowed compared to the FG??

$60 Billionhuh.................can you compare that to Lagos state's debt??

And we all know Lagos State is currently a rare Nigerian economic success due to its borrowing and has structures on ground to finance its debt.

Can we say the same about the FG's debt??
It's not the "Federal Government" that's owing $60 billion. It's the Federal, state and local governments that owe that combined sum.

Don't misinform people.

Pls before joining bathe bandwagon, read Okonjo-Iweala's replybtobthe said allegation - she asked the governors to ask their respective Commissioners for Finance. She went ahead to say that the said transaction will be published before handover date.

Let our thinking not be precipitated by prejudice. Let's wait and see if the said governors will still be heard thereafter.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Govt Incurs N5trn Domestic Debt In Five Years by Meiji(m): 5:47pm On May 19, 2015

There is nothing wrong with debts perse especially if it's put in good use. It's quite evident even to the biggest critic what is being done in lagos even with the debt. Can we say the same about this cursed govt. Infact these fools even borrow money to pay salaries. Does lagos do that also? Please it's incomparable.
Actually it's not clear "to the biggest critic" what the Lagos State government has done with the borrowed funds. Didn't the Lagos State government also benefit from high crude oil prices, like everyone else? Why has the Lagos Metroline not been completed (despite promises that it would be finished by June 2013)? Isn't that an example of failed promises?

You talk about "borrowing to pay salaries". What about Ogbeni Rauf and Rotimi Amaechi that haven't paid their workers? What do you have to say about that, Demdem?

I'm not trying to defend this administration (it has had many failures). My point is that we need to stop this partisan agenda of painting Jonathan as the sole problem with Nigeria. APC state governments also bear a large part of the blame for the collective mess the country is in.

Thanks to my ancestors that Jonathan never got re-elected, our great grand children's future would have been affected

It still baffle me up till now for some elements who are sympathiser of GEJ to believe the man is a saint, role model and corruption free...I am very sure they knw within themselves that GEJ reeks corruption, but they dare not say it out...isn't that cowardice?

Their belated line of answer has always been that corruption or stealing never start with GEJ administration and if we have to talk of stealing, we should also talk of OBJ....very awful and incongruous statement

Even if your children's children future are being mortgaged, what matters to you lots is asslicking

In future, your children will all curse you for remaining silent and letting their future to go bleak
You've just written a long epistle without really saying anything. Kindly explain to the house (if you can) how borrowing from the domestic market makes Jonathan corrupt?

N.B: I'm not saying he's not corrupt - I'm just testing your understanding of what the topic is about.

To even think that all these debts were incurred at a time when oil was going for over 100 dollars per barrel far lower than what we pegged the budget at makes me resolute on the fact that Jonah-daft is cursed.
What do you have to say about the debt of the Lagos State government?
PoliticsRe: Tinubu's Solution To Nigeria's Economic Problems by Meiji(m): 5:41pm On May 18, 2015
For me, I'm a small government conservative, so I oppose Tinubu's suggestion in principle. You can't talk about the failures of state government to pay salaries, for instance, without highlighting the fact that we operate a flawed structure (aptly named "feeding bottle federalism" ) where states gather in Abuja every month to share oil money.

People like me had warned for years that such stupidity would cost this nation dearly when oil prices witness a downward trend. The reason is simple: states that keep collecting oil rents every month would inevitably get lazy and refuse to the hard work of developing and expanding the human and material resources they have.

Look for the states in financial difficulty there's only ONE way out: Downsize the workforce. Lay off workers until their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) can take care of the civil service personnel costs and other recurrent expenditure. Then ensure that all FAAC allocations are devoted exclusively to capital and infrastructure spending as well as grants for small businesses that will boost the economy and create jobs.

Any suggestion for proper economic management that doesn't mandate the Federal and state governments to bite the bullet and downsize their bloated workforces is a ruse and a hoax.

My two kobo.

I guess most people have nothing to contribute because threads like this actually require them to use their brains.
