PoliticsRe: FG To Arraign Senate President Over False Asset Declaration On Friday by Meiji(m): 10:21pm On Sep 16, 2015
The Federal Government will, on Friday, arraign the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja, over allegations bordering on false and improper declaration of assets allegedly acquired during his tenure as governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011.
One then wonders why he's just being charged now. Any reasonable, thinking person would have a fair idea.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Inspecting Guard Of Honour In France by Meiji(m): 6:17pm On Sep 14, 2015
I've been trying to find out when and where the interactive session with the Nigerian community will take place, but to no avail. I've asked his spokesmen on Facebook and Twitter, no response.

Does anyone know?

MizMyColi:
So you lot can spin baseless lies?
How does that change the fact that as it stands now, There is no Buhari Portrait in PDP secretariat?
What lie am I spewing? Take note - my issue is not even the fact that Buhari's portrait is not on their office (I couldn't care less), the issue is the public admission. Olisa Metuh, by his public admission of the matter has further eroded his party's reputation in the eyes of Nigerians.

He should have said "no comment" and let Punch run with the news like that.

When you talk of outbursts, I'm awed.
If and when I truly go berserk on this forum, not even you Madam, would want to be found near my mentions.

Firefire has a right to his opinion, as do I.

Punch, it was who went on an investigation.
For all we know, it might have been an APC chieftain who put them up to the mischief.
Why didn't punch investigate APC's secretariat in times past?
What was Metuh supposed to say when punch called him on phone to know the reason why?

The man spoke the truth, and as much as it hurts you members of the ruling party, it is what it is.
That is exactly what he should have said.

Please shove your advice and stop patronizing me.
You are in no position to tell me what I am better than or not, especially with the barefaced lie you just told.

Show me where it was written that PDP called a press conference or forever hold your peace.
I apologise - I just re-read to see the part where the statement was made over the phone.

Still doesn't take away my point - the APC never came out to make such statement through any medium.

What Nigerians need the PDP for is provision of constructive criticism of the party in power, and there has been a lot to criticise in Buhari's 100-odd days as president.

Again, stop playing John Terry for your preferred politicians. Same goes to the "Sai Buhari" crowd.
PoliticsRe: We’ll Never Hang Buhari’s Portrait In Our Offices –PDP by Meiji(m):

I don't see a need for all this noise.

Did APC hang Goodluck Jonathan's portrait in their offices before he was defeated? NO.

Why should the PDP do same?

You lot are just so predictable.
#HypocrisyStinks
But APC never came out to say it publicly.

Please stop doing John Terry when politicians mess up. You're better than this.

What kind of silly and immature opposition are these guys playing? Even if you won't hang his picture, should you go squealing to the press? We're talking of an opposition that should be providing an alternative blueprint and vision for the country, these ones are talking about portrait? What kind of idiots are these?

Olisa Metuh should be sacked. He'll keep ridiculing the party if he's left in that office.

The earlier you realize that PDP is dead the better for you.
Why should the PDP be dead? Do you want Nigeria to be a one-party state? Do you know that one of the major reasons why the PDP failed in its 16 years in power was because for 14 of those 16 years they had no real opposition? Why do you want that to happen again?

Now that it has been revealed, you're still not satisfied.

It sucks to be a wailer.
What is this one saying? Are Nigerians daft that we can't read the contents of the form for ourselves? Why is he spoon-feeding us?

Anyway he has said that the form will be released in due time. Like I said, I'll hold on to that.

Call me a "wailer" if you want, I'll accept it as a badge of honour,

Garba Shehu has said that the full CCB-verified forms will be released to the public. I'll hold him to that and reserve my comments for now.

As far as I'm concerned, no assets have been declared.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Army Retakes Gomboru Ngala From B’haram - by Meiji(m): 7:23pm On Sep 01, 2015
I thought all the towns and cities were retaken before the elections? When did Boko Haram take them back for the Nigerian Army to "retake" again?

Modified: This is an excerpt from VOA on February 1, 2015:

On Saturday, Chadian forces reclaimed the northeastern Nigerian town of Gamboru-Ngala, after a heated battle with Boko Haram that involved a ground and air campaign. Gamboru-Ngala, about 145 kilometers east of Maiduguri, was captured by Boko Haram last year.

So when did Boko Haram retake Gamboru Ngala for the army to now "retake" again? There are a lot of things we aren't being told. undecided

PoliticsRe: APC Lists N440bn Fraud Cases Against Jonathan Govt by Meiji(m): 11:17am On Aug 31, 2015
It appears to me that APC's strategy has been to make Jonathan look so bad that anyone and anything would look better than him. That level of propaganda could help them win the elections, but it won't help them govern. Soon enough we'll get tired of hearing how much Jonathan stole and we're going to demand: 1) An actual prosecution of corrupt officials and 2) The fulfillment of APC's own campaign promises.

Propaganda has an expiry date.
PoliticsRe: Governor Ayade Trapped On Calabar-Ikom Road by Meiji(m): 10:48am On Aug 31, 2015
Another reason to push for devolution of powers. I don't understand how one would designate such roads as "federal roads" instead of leaving it for those who feel the pinch of using that road to fix.

Devolve powers so that the Cross River state governor can be held responsible for that road.

I was going to quote a post you made earlier.

Do you remember that popular parlance - "na for where them dey joke, them dey tok true"?

I know this because if he truly meant to take everyone for a ride, he would not connive with Mi dolian in the background to come back him up here, so he can let the world know that he was being sarcastic.

Owh well.

It's just like making a post and tagging it..." I'm madly in Love with Truckpusher!!!"
Of course everyone will think I'm kidding or just goofing around....
But those who have a knack for studying humans would know that even if I didn't mean it wholly....
A part of me did contemplate it.
For out of the abundance of the heart, speaketh the mouth.
So you're in love with Truckpusher? tongue
PoliticsRe: I'm Sick And Tired Of Nigeria!!!!!!!!! by Meiji(m): 9:31pm On Aug 27, 2015
Let me make this little input here. I understand the OP's frustration with the apparently excessive focus on ethnicity/ethnic origins and the need to make competence and ability to deliver the watchword with regard to making appointments at all levels. I used to think that way too until I learned more about Nigeria - and now I've had a change of mind.

The truth is that in Nigeria as currently constituted, ethnicity and tribe MATTER, especially as they relate to federal appointments. There are two major reasons why we need some kind of ethnic/regional balancing in federal appointments: 1) Because Nigeria is not yet a nation in the true sense; and 2) Because the country is structured in such a way as to give Abuja excessive power. No 2) is particularly important because if a region tends to have access to power in Abuja they can influence federal contracts and projects to benefit their region. The people of the South East would, for instance, easily point to the fact that no government deemed it necessary to provide them with an international airport until Stella Oduah (a "daughter of the soil" ) became Aviation Minister.

Anyone who has studied Nigeria's political history will know that one common theme has been the mutual distrust among our different ethnic groups which has been occasioned by a fear of domination. Federal character is simply an attempt (albeit an imperfect one) to address/allay these fears.

For me one thing that needs to be done in order to address this issue is to devolve powers. Make Abuja weaker and the states stronger, let the states and local governments have greater say and control over their own affairs. Let it never be again that, for instance, a Tinapa project would be frustrated and left to rot because a Federal Government would refuse to dredge the Calabar river (dredging of rivers and control of ports are in the exclusive list).

If we successfully devolve powers, it may no longer matter if a president makes all appointments from his hometown. But if we continue to retain this "feeding-bottle federalism" structure with an all-powerful centre, then I'm sorry to say, federal character will have to stay on and ethnicity in federal appointments will remain a talking point.

My two cents.
