CelebritiesTop 6 Nigerian Artists Who Lost Their Swagger by Meloshi(op): 7:50pm On Aug 21, 2018
Di'Ja

Nigerian musicians are some of the best in the world. Some of the very successful artists have seen their musical careers blazing high above the skies across continents. But after some initial glitz and glamour, a few have been blown away by the wind of musical fad.
In this write-up, THEWHISTLER brings you the Top 7 Nigerian Musical Artists we think are no longer in the limelight. These artists have not released any hit song or featured in major concert in recent years.

Black face

Nigeria dance hall Courage Ngoye Mercy, known by his stage name Blackface is considered as one of the Nigerian musicians who has lost his musical touch in the Music Industry.
Blackface was a founding member of the Nigerian band Plantashun Boyz that he formed in 2000 with 2face Idibia and musician Chibuzor Oji better known as Faze.

Blackface, however, surprised us in 2009 with one hit song titled “Erimma” which was his first and last hit song since he became a single artist.
He claims one of his best songs which would’ve become one of the biggest evergreen songs in Africa was stolen by his then musical partner 2face.

He’s been trying really hard to make waves in the industry not knowing the unfortunate has happened… His career is long dead, the music industry has left him behind, Nigerians no longer enjoy his sounds and beats, even his mode of dressing is no no longer chic.
Its best Blackface start up something new since its very obvious his career is long dead!

9ice

Abolore Adegbola Akande better known by his stage name 9ice came into limelight with his song titled ‘Gongo Aso’. The track was like the biggest thing then across the country, especially in Lagos and the South West.
However, we can perfectly trace the decline in his musical career to his failed marriage.
He went missing for a while before coming back on the scene. He made some couple of failed Collaborations before releasing his current singles.

Dprince

Nigerian Afro-pop singer, songwriter Charles Enebeli, better known by his stage name D’Prince, has long lost his musical career.
One wouldn’t be far from the truth calling Dprince a musician who got fame due to his brother, Don Jazzy’s influence in the music industry.
The only notable thing we think he’s done in the music industry is releasing a one-hit wonder titled “Oga Titus” which he did so as not to totally get his career buried and sent to the deepest part of musical hell by the foxy breeze of dementia…. We’re forced to believe his career is dead and will take a very strong miracle to resurrect.

Di’Ja

Mavin’s 2nd lady after Tiwa Savage, Hadiza Blell known by her stage name Di’ja, is one of the musicians whose musical career appeared long buried
We believe 80% of Nigerians don’t know any of her hit singles… The songs she did with Glo as one of their ambassadors made her popular than all her singles.
Her career was a bit elevated when she collaborated with Patoranking in the hit song “Falling for you” Ever since madam is nowhere to be found…
We’re forced to believe she’s quit music to take care of her baby since she’s now a mom… We just hope when she’s back in the studio she wouldn’t find her career lying totally dead and buried with condolence flowers on the grave.

Olu Maintain

Olumide Edwards Adegbulu popularly known by his stage name “Olu Maintain” is considered one of those musicians who has far lost their musical career
The singer went into oblivion after a brief glistering moment on the musical red carpet due to his hit song “Yahooze”.
In 2017 Maintain tried to resurrect his career with a new tune Ewo on which he featured Ice Prince. There is still a chance for the singer to get his careeer back on, if he works harder.

Ice Prince

Panshak Zamani can arguably still be classified as an A-list artist notwithstanding his inability to release new songs after his old hit songs faded.
After releasing one of Nigerian’s biggest hits of 2016 titled “Molowo Noni” which he collaborated with Tekno, all other music he released afterwards could not get him out of the musical valley.

He’s really working hard these days to get back to his formal position. Ice Prince had on Wednesday released new video titled ‘Big Daddy Ice’, where he featured former big brother housemate C-cee.

Maybe this video will help the Jos-born rapper make his way back to the top.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday urged Nigerians to shun individualism and sectionalism in the bids to unite the nation.
He gave the advice while receiving residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) led by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, who paid him a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President also called for all hands to be on deck in order to salvage the nation.

He said:-
“Please in your constituencies emphasized what I said about 30 years ago, we don’t have another country except Nigeria.
We may as well remain here and salvage it together, there is nothing else we can do. Even those that had gone out are now trying to come back because they are not wanted out there. I wish all the resources they had been deployed here.
It would have been much better. So thank you very much and please try to persuade your constituencies to work much harder away from individualism and sectionalism.”

Nairaland GeneralMeet 82-year-old Taiwo Akinkunmi Who Designed The Nigerian gay At The Age Of 23 by Meloshi(op): 3:59am On May 26, 2018
https://www.gossipmill.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/taz-500x281.jpg

The history of Nigeria will never be complete if the flag is not mentioned, talkless of the person who took his time to design the country’s logo.
History records that the Nigerian flag was designed in 1958 by one Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi who was just 23-year-old at that time. After his design was accepted by the government, it was officially launched on October 1, 1960.

Looking at the flag from then till now, the country’s logo has maintained its official colors green and white for many decades. The two green stripes represent Nigeria’s natural wealth, while the white in the middle represents peace.

It could be recalled that Akinkunmi who is now 82-year-old, was a 23-year-old student studying at Norwich Technical College in London, England. The young man came across an advertisement in a newspaper that submissions were being accepted for the design of a new national flag of Nigeria.

He began to show o his skills and he finally came up with his original submission which had a red radiating sun badge in the central white vertical band with a green vertical band on each side. Akinkunmi’s design was accepted but the judges removed the red sun badge in the middle and the flag has remained unchanged ever since.

https://www.gossipmill.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/taz1-500x250.png

The flag was then launched on October 1, 1960, the year Nigeria was granted its independence by the United Kingdom (UK). He was paid the sum of £100 which was equal to $281 (N42,150) in 1959.

Now, Akinkunmi is a retired Nigerian civil servant who was born in Ibadan, Oyo state. He lived with his father till he was 8-year-old before relocating to the Northern part of the country where he began his early education.

After his father’s retirement, he came down to the west and was re-enrolled at Baptist Day School, Idi-Ikan in Ibadan. He finished from there in 1949 and proceeded to Ibadan Grammar School (IGS) in 1950 where he enjoyed a very good education.

He left IGS in 1955 and took an appointment as an agriculturist at the Western Region Secretariat in Ibadan as a civil servant.
In 1963, Akinkunmi returned to Nigeria and went back to the agricultural department at the secretariat in Ibadan to continue from where he stopped. He worked as a civil servant until 1994 and retired as assistant superintendent of agriculture.

On September 29, 2014, he was honoured with Officer of the order of Federal Republic (OFR) and honorary life presidential adviser at the conference centre Abuja.

NAIJ.com
earlier reported that Akinkunmi’s health has now deteriorated so badly that he cannot remember his age. He is unable to remember what he was doing on October 1, 1960 when the flag was hoisted for the first time in history. “Well, I was just pleased,” is the only thing that Akinkunmi can recount.

RomanceLady Cancels Her Wedding Plan After Being Beaten Up By Her Fiance by Meloshi(op): 3:40am On May 26, 2018

As seen on Twitter @_Mama_Thea cancels her wedding with her fiance after being beaten up by him. She already had a child for him.

She has earlier announced her upcoming wedding in April but has come out to give the notice of the wedding being canceled.
Getting married in 5 months.

Update: He’s cancelled. Everything’s cancelled. He beat me up last weekend. Beat me like a dog my parents had to come get me from the hospital . I felt so broken but staying strong for my daughter.
His dad tried to tell me I shouldn’t tell my friends because I’d called a friend to rescue me. In hospital they tried to tell the nurses and doctors that “she fell”. My mum called me when I was in hospital as they were rushing there and told me to tell the truth.
I felt like I was being pushed to keep this thing a secret. That I should be ashamed that it happened to me. There’s no way to adequately describe the nightmare I was living in that moment.
When I was released from hospital his dad wanted us to go discuss the issue and how to resolve it. Mind you I could barely walk. His mother said I was blaming her son. My parents stood for me throughout this nightmare. 2764

I’m not ashamed. And nothing or no one will make me feel like I should be. I’ve struggled and I still am but I’m still here.

The cause of the crisis was still not clear as the chairman added that security agencies were on the trail of the boy allegedly said to have caused the clash.

He said: “I cannot tell you exactly what happened, because we are still trailing the boy that was said to have led the attack. He is on the run and his family has deserted their house.

“We spoke to him in the morning, but his line is off now so we are trailing him. The atmosphere was gloomy and it was obvious that a lot of tears had cascaded down the cheeks of the family members of the late Aishat Abimbola aka Omoge Campus whose sudden death occurred on Tuesday. Although the actress had since relocated to Canada last year probably on health grounds, sympathisers thronged her family house, 32 Fuja Street, off Randle Avenue, Surulere Lagos on Tuesday when Saturday Beats visited. The house hosted some of her association members such as Saidi Balogun, Kola Olaiya, Dele Fagboro, Sukannmi Omobolanle to mention but few who came to mourn her demise.

It was gathered that the late actress died after battling an illness which was speculated to be breast cancer in Canada. Saturday Beatsgathered that the late actress had been nursing the ailment and had to relocate to Canada about a year ago.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, her elder brother, Taiwo, described the actress as their all. He said that her death came as a shock to the family.

He said, “We were all born and raised in Idumota, Lagos. We lost our parents years back and she had assumed the role of the breadwinner of the family. Aishat is a great personality in our family and we always prayed for her because she was indeed the pillar of support that our household had. Before her death; she was someone who never joked with her family members and siblings at all. She was our mother and father and all. She will sorely be missed.”

Her younger sister, Mariam who is the last child of the Musa family could not stop screaming in shock over the death of her late sister, who she described as a rare gem to the family.

Meanwhile, the actress, who was fondly referred to as Omoge Campus, was buried on Thursday in Canada, where she passed away.

The information was made available by her boss and president of The Golden Movie Ambassadors of Nigeria, Saidi Balogun via his Instagram handle.

She was laid to rest at the Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centre, Brampton, Canada amidst tears. It was gathered that the burial was coordinated by her colleague, Lola Alao who reportedly took care of her during her illness.

Prior to the burial of the late actress, her friend and colleague, Lola Alao took to her Instagram page to plead with well-meaning fans of the deceased not to contribute money for her burial.

She said, “Hello everybody I would like to say thank you for all the calls and support after Aisha’s death. I am very grateful for the support and may God bless and support everyone. Aisha had been battling cancer for a very long time but being a private person, she did not share the information with anybody especially because she did not want to beg for money from anyone. Please if anyone claims that I sent a broadcast message seeking for fund for the burial, it is false. We never begged for money and I am speaking on behalf of Aisha’s family. We do not need anybody’s support because Aisha is a Canadian citizen and the Canadian government took up the responsibility of burying her. Please if you receive any information that we need money, kindly disregard such a message,” Alao said.

CelebritiesHow Tuface And I Settle Quarrels – Sound Sultan by Meloshi(op): 2:06am On May 19, 2018
https://i0.wp.com/apex.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/2face-and-Sound-Sultan.jpg?resize=300%2C336

For many years, the friendship between Nigerian hip-hop titans, Tuface and Sound Sultan has kept waxing strong. However, in a chat with Saturday Beats, Sound Sultan popularly referred to as Naija Ninja revealed that he has fought with the legendary singer but they settle it in a bizarre manner. He said, “The funny thing is that there is nothing that causes a fight between Tuface and me. If we have a misunderstanding, we make fun of it and settle it. That is the beauty of our friendship. Whenever we have a problem, we make fun of it and resolve the issue. We argue and it is more of a hobby for us but we realise that we must not always agree on an issue.

“We have never had a quarrel over women or music. When it comes to music, we connect greatly with our inspirations. We connect greatly. Money has never been an issue between me and anybody. It is not that I do not like money but I do not let it define who I am or erase some things about my personality. It is very important to uphold some things and stick by them.”

Speaking briefly on his relationship with Tuface, the iconic singer said, “Tuface and I started in the music industry a long while ago and when we started, there weren’t too many of us in the game. We both started in FESTAC and by virtue of that, we were always together. Back then, it was just us living our lives. We grew to understand how we connected on different levels. Nothing can stop that kind of friendship.

Nairaland GeneralTop 5 Causes Of Poverty In Nigeria by Meloshi(op): 1:39am On May 19, 2018
https://timesofoman.com/uploads/images/2016/03/08/x351400.jpg.pagespeed.ic.cDGxOfSsQd.jpg

Nigeria is a naturally blessed country but apparently appears to be a in a state of “hunger in the midst of plenty”.

A larger part of the citizenry is ravaged by poverty.

People are seen struggling to meet their basic needs.

The heavy dependence of the economy on the exportation crude oil has created a narrow and weak economy base.

This has led to inability of the government to provide adequately for the people.

1. Low Economic Growth Performance

Let us look at 5 causes of poverty in Nigeria

A viable economy is essential for provision of employment thus reducing poverty levels in the nation. The Nigerian economy has a low performance and the growth rate is very low. This has contributed to the level of poverty in the country. There is inadequate generation of employment to the teaming youth in the country. A diversification of the economy will provide more employment and contribute to a reduction in poverty levels.

2. Crime and Violence
The incessant unrest and attacks by the insurgency has created a gaping hole in the society. This has translated to an increase in the poverty levels in the country. With violence, people tend to embrace migration and are faced with the challenge of resettlement. Examples of this can be seen with the internally displaced persons who have now become a part of the poverty stricken populace. Adequate security and proper reintegration of internally displaced persons will go a long way in reducing poverty.

3. Weak Governance
Corruption, poor programme implementation and monitoring among others has contributed immensely to poverty in Nigeria. Also, poor accountability and lack of transparency in resource allocation have become the order of the day and this has created a dwindling pattern in the lives of the people. Good Governance can generate a viable society with the basic needs of the people being taken care of and adequate provision of resources and infrastructure that will raise the standard of living and reduce poverty.

4. Ill Health and Disease
Poverty and ill health or disease can be likened to the case of the “the egg or the chicken, which cane first”. Ill health tends to suck up productivity and limits entrepreneurial activities, thus reducing the viable contribution to the economy. This means that poverty can lead to ill health or disease and vice versa. With cases of Malaria, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases ravaging the society, it is not surprising that poverty has the will to thrive in Nigeria. Basic health amenities if made accessible by the Government will however go a long way in poverty reduction.

5. Debt Burden
The socio-economic condition in every society is largely dependent on huge capital investments both by the public and private sectors. A debt ridden economy becomes handicapped and shifts focus to debt servicing instead of economic development and creation of employment. This creates a static economy and can lead to an increase in poverty. The Government however has a large role to play in ensuring socio-economic development, creation of basic amenities and employment to reduce poverty level to the barest minimum.

CrimeLagos SARS Operatives Who Extorted N5,000 From Woman And Her Friends Arrested by Meloshi(op): 3:32am On May 18, 2018

A digital marketer, Ifeoluwa Adegoke, caused a stir on the social media on Thursday after sharing her encounter with some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Adegoke said she was forced to part with N5,000 to save her life and that of her colleagues, who were accosted by the policemen around 1.20pm while going for a photo shoot.

The victim, who shared a snapshot evidence of the fund transfer and the photo of one of the policemen, alleged that the operatives threatened to kill them.

“With my encounter today, it is safe to say SARS men are armed robbers. I was going for a photo shoot in Ikorodu today (Wednesday) and armed robbers SARS pulled us over and made us pay for no reason, threatening that they were gonna waste our lives. I made a transfer so they can be traced,” she wrote on her Twitter page.

The tweet went viral as some Nigerians, who lived in the Ikorodu area, identified one of the policemen, Inspector Omotosho Olushola Charles, as a habitual extortionist.

They alleged that Charles had forced them at different times to part with various sums of money without committing any offence.

Adegoke, who later shared her ordeal in details, said the encounter gave her a new perspective of SARS men.

She said, “My colleagues and I left Surulere for Ikorodu, where we were to do a photo shoot. We were four in the car and I was the only female.

“When we got to Ikorodu, the SARS operatives, who were in a vehicle, asked our driver to stop; they were five in their bus – all fully armed.

“They said we were suspected criminals and asked us to come down. They asked the driver to come down too. They checked the car, took our phones and went through them. When they did not find anything, they said we were thieves and cult members.

“When I challenged them that we did nothing wrong, one of them said he would slap me. I told my colleagues to keep calm because I knew it would be stupid for us to argue with armed policemen. I told my colleagues that they would demand money from us in the end.”

She explained that after the search did not yield any fruit, the officials demanded N100,000.

Adegoke said she took the operatives through her social media account to show them that they were managing to survive.

“But they said they did not care. I told the inspector that since we were not the kind of people they were looking for and since they did not find anything incriminating on us, they should just release us.

“They said they were going to release us because we were not the kind of people they were looking for; but they won’t release us for free. They started cocking their guns to threaten us; they said they would shoot us.

“I approached one of them and begged that we did not have the N100,000 because we were only young people searching for our daily bread. I told him that I had just N5,000 in my account and he should allow me to transfer it to them,” she added.

She noted that the men refused to accede to her request, just as she remained adamant so as to have evidence of the extortion.

The social media enthusiast said after some murmurs of disapproval, the operatives agreed.

“After we did the transfer, they did not allow us to go until they got a credit alert on their mobile phone. The policeman who released his account number told the others that he was with his ATM card and he would withdraw the money for them to share.

“When we left, I traced the name and discovered that his bank account name, Omotosho Olushola Charles, is the same he uses for his Facebookaccount. That was how I got his picture,” she added.

The victim, who demanded that the policemen should be rounded up and prosecuted, said she and her colleagues could have been killed if they did not have any money on them.

She described the experience as an “eye-opener,” urging the authorities to reform the police force.

The Head of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit, Abayomi Shogunle, said Adegoke’s complaint had been received, adding that the police inspector had been arrested.

“My dearest @ife_luv12, I am glad to inform you that the account owner has been identified – Inspector Charles Omotosho, FSARS Ikorodu, Lagos. He is in custody; preliminary investigation ongoing. PCRRU will inform you on the next line of action. Sorry for the experience,” he tweeted.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the arrest of the inspector, adding that the police authorities were investigating the incident.

He said, “We have arrested the policeman. His trial will commence soon. Any other person found culpable in the course of investigation will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Business2 Businesses You Can Start With N5, 000 by Meloshi(op): 2:50am On May 18, 2018
https://www.zumi.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/image.jpeg

Most businesses you can start require a lot of capital, but there are a few others that don’t need a lot of money to be launched. The key to wealth is not really saving and managing, but creating new streams of income that can bring in more money than you spend.

Money always goes out in many ways, so the trick is to ensure that you have it coming in from many sources so there can be a balance in income and expenditure. This is where owning a business comes in. You can work a 9-5 and still run your own thing on the side to augment your income, and you don’t have to break the bank to do this.

Here are two businesses you can start with N5,000:

1. Plantain/potato chips business

The average plantain/potato chips sells for N500 per one dozen. Your N5, 000 can get at least 10 dozen plantains. This will get you a profit of at least N1, 000. Your turnover can be five times more than this depending on who your customers are and how much you sell.

2. Mobile and electronic Accessories (pouches, chargers, USB cables earphones):

You can start this with N5, 000 but you’ll need a little more than that to get established in this business. You can source good and cheap stock on Ali Baba, Ali Express, Deal Extreme and so on.

In thinking of businesses you can start where you are, you must look around and think about the unique needs and problems of people in your immediate environment. What do people need to buy in your area that is scarce? It could be snacks, recharge cards or even bottled water. Just look around you and you will find a problem to solve.

Doing business and making money starts from solving problems and creating value. If you can do this, you will succeed. Also, in any business, you need the right attitude, patience and tenacity to make it.

This may actually be true, as it seems these security officials do look at the hairstyle and how expensive one dresses up.
