The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcycle rider, Stephen Gyang, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Alice Samuel, and burying her remains in a shallow grave.
Gyang allegedly killed the victim for wanting to force her pregnancy on him.
The 20-year-old Junior Secondary School two dropout said he killed his girlfriend because she had initially said he was not responsible for the pregnancy.
He said she recanted on the prompting of her mother, who wanted him to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

The incident happened in Tahoss village, in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, said it was a case of “culpable homicide”, adding that the suspect had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court.
Gyang, an okada rider, told PUNCH Metro that he reported the matter to his elder brother because he lost his peace after the incident.
He said, “Yes, Alice Samuel was my girlfriend and we had been together for some time now. I killed her because of the pregnancy.
After saying the pregnancy was not for me, she recanted and said it was mine; that was why I killed her. I decided to bury her that night in a shallow grave that was to be used either for a pit toilet or well.
“After the incident, the spirit of Alice Samuel did not leave me; she started disturbing me and I had to report to my brother who took the matter to my father. My father thereafter reported my predicament to the village chief.”
His friend and accomplice, 20-year-old Kelly James, who was an eyewitness, told our correspondent that he begged Gyang not to kill the victim, but he refused.
He claimed that the prime suspect threatened to kill him if he (James) did not assist him.
James said, “I had been seeing him and the girl together for over three years now. He is my friend and the two of us are commercial motorcyclists.
On that particular day, I had gone to see his girlfriend, who sold palm wine. After taking palm wine at her shop, I went to my friend’s house.
When I discovered that he was not at home, I picked the house key where he usually kept it, opened the door and slept off in his room.
“When he returned home at night, he was not happy that I entered his house without informing him of my visit. While I was asleep, I heard a knock on the window and he informed me it was his girlfriend, Alice.
“When I asked him what brought the girl by that time of the night, he said she came to see him. He opened the back door for her and they started having a discussion behind the curtains.
“He called me outside that the girl had implicated him over a pregnancy which did not belong to him. He insisted that the girl’s mother asked her to do so. I told him that since he had accepted the pregnancy and the case was already in the palace of the village chief, he should allow her to be with her parents for now.
“But he said no, that he was going to deal with the girl by killing her. I advised him against it, warning that if he killed Alice, we would not be friends again. But he refused.
“I left him outside and went into the room. I started trembling on the bed as I feared the worst. He was talking to the girl and I thought he had decided against killing her.
“Suddenly, I heard the sound of two legs on the ground, which suggested that she was struggling for life. I stood up and saw that he held the girl’s neck to the wall; he had strangled her and her eyes were already white.
As I told him to leave the girl, he threatened to kill me if I did not assist him to cover up.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed those he described as wicked people for plundering the country, saying they have “kept Nigerians poor.”
The President said this in London Sunday while receiving a delegation of the Buhari Diaspora Support Organisation led by Mr Charles Sylvester.
He, however, noted that looking at the condition in which his administration met the country, without savings and the economy badly vandalised, “we have not done too badly.”
President Buhari said the damage done to the Nigerian economy in the years of plunder was massive, and that government was doing its best to recover some of the loot, although it was impossible to identify and recover all.
“If they had used 50% of the money we made when oil prices went as high as $143 dollars per barrel and stabilised at $100 dollars with production at 2.1 million barrels per day for many years, Nigerians would have minded their businesses.
“You could almost grow food on our roads, as they were abandoned. The stealing was so much, and they were so inept that they could not even cover the stealing properly. I wonder how all those things could have happened to our country,” he decried in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.
The President, who noted that Nigeria was gifted with tremendous human and natural resources, regretted that the failure of some of the leadership the nation had in the past led to the inability of his administration to capitalise on resources to improve the lot of the people.
He, however, commended Nigerians who are in the diaspora defending the country, stressing that they have shown courage and sacrifice.
President Buhari further assured them that their confidence in the Federal Government would not be abused, as his administration would do its best to justify it.
He also thanked the Buhari Diaspora Support Organisation for deciding to identify with the country, “when you could have stayed here, and being comfortable.”
Responding, the coordinator of the organisation, Mr Sylvester said the group was happy with the achievements of President Buhari’s administration so far.
He noted that that President has overcome most of the challenges he met, especially in the areas of agriculture revolution, ease of doing business, anti-corruption war, employment of youths through the N-Power programme, and the blockage of leakages in the public sector through the Treasury Single Account (TSA), among others.
Sylvester also commended the efforts of the government in the war against insurgency in the North East, as well as his declaration to seek re-election in 2019.
In his word, the coordinator said, “We are proud of the speed with which you recovered the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls. It shows you as a worthy general. We are happy that you have declared for 2019. Majority of Nigerians are happy, but agents of corruption and darkness are unhappy.
“The same God, who healed you when you were ill, will grant you victory in the 2019 elections. You are a general who does not fear combat, either with generals or non-generals.”

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, says it will include farming and crop production as part of the one year primary assignment for corps members from the next service year.
The NYSC FCT Coordinator, Bello Ballama said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja on Thursday.
He said that the move was to help address corps members’ rejection by some employers, through the engagement of more corps members in all aspects of farming and crop production.
The coordinator said that the move was also aimed at boosting the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, Programme.
Ballam said the scheme was therefore putting all its farms in good condition in readiness for corps members to commence its use.
“Corps members will be involved in all aspects of farming and crop production.
“This will not only support skills acquisition of NYSC but also governments plan of boosting agricultural production to improve self-reliance and achieve national growth and development.
“From this 2018 Batch ‘A’ Stream I set of corps members who are commencing orientation on April 19, we are going to look into all the farm formations and centres to be able to post corps members there.
“We have farms in the FCT and many other states of the country; the present leadership of the scheme is poised to ensuring the revival of all NYSC facilities including the farms.
“The NYSC is faced with the challenge of engaging the increasing number of corps members mobilised every year.
“We therefore, have to take proactive steps towards achieving our mandate and supporting the federal government’s plans for youth development,” he said.
He said that the scheme was still faced with the challenge of corps members being rejected by organisations they were posted to carry out their one year primary assignment.
The coordinator said that in spite of discussion the scheme had with corps employers not to reject corps members, the NYSC was still faced with the problem every year.
He said that some corps employers do not provide accommodation and transportation to corps members who are left to suffer harsh
living conditions.
“We have held a workshop with corps employers and have interacted with them and we look forward to a better relationship and working environment for corps members in the next year,“ he said.
NAN reports that some of the farms owned and run by the scheme are located in Benue, Plateau, FCT among other states.

Big brother Naija housemate, Cee-C got almost everyone talking when she ripped her Payporte cultural dress to a crop top.
Payporte even had to express their displeasure.
Her elder sister who is currenlty handling her social media pages has now apologized on her behalf to Payporte and the entire Efik people.
She wrote:-
“Since last night it has been all tension following the readjustments Cee-C made to the clothes given her.
It has also been a tough decision to make on what step I should take knowing that this incidence occurred inside the House and Cee-C is not here to speak for herself. But nonetheless I will make a statement on the capacity of her sister.
I want to apologize for the rather unnecessary statement that Cee-C made about the attire given to her by @payporte.
I’m not there with them as all of us here. But from previous happenings, it may seem that the housemates are not adequately informed about their task of modelling these attires for the brands that make them. I guess this is why some of the housemates go ahead to make amendments to them.
It would be more effective if @payporte were to communicate their displeasure to the housemate through their usual communication medium so that Cee-C would make an apology of her own which would be seen as more authentic, genuine and personal than what I have shared here.
That said, I apologize on her behalf and also to the Efik ethnicity who may have been slighted by this. I assure you it has nothing to do with tribe. We love, relate and do business amicably with all tribes and people.
