Nigerians all over the world have been celebrating the life and times of legendary entertainer, Moses Olaiya Adejumo, popularly called ‘Baba Sala’, who died on Sunday, October 7, 2018.
For the 82-year-old consummate actor, comedian and singer whose life had been greetedby rumours of death several times, his children are glad that, although Baba was old and sick, he passed peacefully in his sleep.
His son, Emmanuel Adejumo who broke the news on Facebook noted: “…he did not die of any sickness. It was just the time for him to go and be with the Lord,” he said, adding that “he (Baba Sala) ate around 6pm and rested for a while before he entered into his room to lie down on the bed.”
A feeling of nostalgic celebrations rent the air as fans poured encomiums on the actor, on the social media, early Monday, reliving fond memories of the heydays of the thespian.
It was like a competition on who could best recall lines from the comic dramas of the veteran actor, whose slapstick trademark included a humungous lens-free eye-glass frame, outsized metal neck tie, clock-size wrist watch and tobacco smoking pipe.
From the Awada soap on the then Western Nigerian Television (WNTV) every Wednesday by 7pm, fans recalled signature tunes like: ‘Baba Sala, gbendu gbendu ikun bi oya’, a soundtrack that usually got many to rush back for the must-watch comic drama.
In a condolence message, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed described late Adejumo as an ‘Incomparable Thespian’.
According to him, “the death of the thespian has robbed the nation of an incomparable thespian and a colossus of his time.”
He said Baba Sala was a trail blazer who, along with his contemporaries, laid the foundation for the theatre and comedy that have now taken Nigeria’s creative industry by storm.
President of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), Isreal Eboh, described the passing of Baba Sala as the “end of an era” since, according to him, “he was the last of his generation of pioneers of Nigerian theatre.
He said baba Sala “brought joy to millions and exemplified the spirit of adventure synonymous with most Nigerians. He created many classics that will ensure his memory lives with us forever.”
Born on May 18, 1936, Moses Adejuma is regarded as the father of modern Nigerian comedy.
A man of many parts, Baba Sala’s passion for entertainment is said to have begun in his secondary school days where he performed magic and toured other schools with his art.
He, alongside other dramatists like Hubert Ogunde, Kola Ogunmola, Oyin Adejobi and Duro Ladipo popularised theater and television acting in Nigeria. He started his career in show business as a Highlife musician, fronting in 1964 a group known as the Federal Rhythm Dandies where he tutored and guided the Juju music maestro King Sunny Ade (KSA) who was his lead guitar player before the group embraced theatre.
During KSA’s 70th birthday, the Juju music maestro poured encomiums on the late Adejumo whose tutelage and advice he said were responsible for his career path and success.
As a filmmaker, his credits include, Orun Mooru (1982); Aare Agbaye (1983); Mosebolatan (1985); Obee Gbona (1989); Diamond (1990 Home video ); Agba Man (1992, Home Video); Return Match (1993, Home Video); Ana Gomina (1996, home video, ) and Tokunbo (1985, TV).
In 1974, he was honoured by the military government of Olusegun Obasanjo with the national title of MON.
A major setback that hit the late filmmaker was when his 1982 classic, Orun Mooru, was pirated. The debt incurred as a result of that incident had a toll on his other investments.
Among his investments are the Awada Spot in Ibadan; Alawada Standard Hotel, Ilesha; Alawada Records, Ibadan; and Ibukun Alawada Photo magazine.
He was also said to owned a three-storey building in Mushin, Lagos, which he sold to offset debt incurred when Orun Mooru was pirated.
One of the last moments of the thespian was his role in the Church, as Minister in charge at Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Idasa.

A 22-year-old man, Labiru Umar, of Doka village in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State has been arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
While armed with a gun, Umar and four others, now at large, were said to have on September 7, 2018, invaded the house of one Liman Suleiman of Unguwar Doka village, where they allegedly stole three cows.
The other four accused were identified as Umaru Bakuganewa, Hudu Waruwas, Bello Maiduwa and Dan Lukuti.
The police told the court that the charges against Umar and the other accused were contrary to Section 6 b(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Provisions Act,Cap.R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Umar was remanded in prison till November 8, 2018, when his case would come up for mention before Senior Magistrate Hajiya Dikko.

A mother, Oluwaseun Folorunsho, has accused a private medical facility in Lagos State, Oak Hospital, of killing her one-year-old son, Ogooluwa.
The 43-year-old mother claimed that workers at the hospital prescribed and administered drugs meant for her four-year-old son, Imole, to Ogooluwa, adding that it was what led to his death.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Oluwaseun had on Saturday, September 22, 2018, rushed her two sons to the hospital as both had cough and were vomitting.
It was gathered that a medical test on the children revealed that they both had malaria and an unnamed infection, leading to their being admitted to the hospital.
While Imole was placed on drips, Ogooluwa was reportedly given injections.
Their mother told PUNCH Metro that when she gave Imole food to eat, he refused, adding that his vomiting continued.
The Ogun State indigene said despite her complaints, a doctor at the hospital said all was well.
She said, “On Sunday, Imole, who is the elder, started running a temperature. I called the attention of the doctor to it and he said I should not worry that he would be fine. He said his younger brother was already playing.
“In the afternoon, one of the nurses came with three injections for Ogooluwa. I noticed that she used big syringes to give him the injections.
“She gave him two injections on the thigh and when she was about to give him the third, the liquid escaped from the syringe. She said she would come back to do it again, but she never did.
“When Ogoololuwa woke up from sleep, he asked for water. He drank a lot of water. In the evening, the doctor came to check his heartbeat and said he was perfectly normal and he would discharge him. But I told him that the elder brother had not been eating. He said he would give us drugs and he would also be fine.
“The doctor discharged the kids and placed them on drugs. While my husband went to clear the bills, the younger boy excreted; the smell was bad and yellowish. I thought it was the injection they gave him. He excreted three times before we left the hospital.”
Oluwaseun added that when she got home and brought out the drugs, she noticed that the nylon which had Ogooluwa’s name had six drugs, while the one with the elder brother’s name had four drugs.
She explained that when she asked her husband if the drugs were for Ogooluwa, he replied that the pharmacist confirmed that they were for him.
She noted that after giving the one-year-old the drugs, which consisted of antibiotics, oral suspension, cough syrup, among others, he excreted again.
The mother said when she noticed that the excreta were excessive, she gave him Oral Rehydration Therapy.
“When I noticed that the excreta did not stop, I decided to take him back to the private hospital. When I wanted to carry him, I noticed that he was not looking fine; I shouted for help. People assisted me to take him to a nearby hospital.
“On getting there, the person that attended to us asked what happened to the child and who gave him antibiotics. He said he was reacting to the drugs and that was why he had become pale. He said we should take him away.
“When I returned home to get clothes for Ogooluwa in order to take him back to Oak Hospital, I met his brother vomiting again. I begged people to take him to a nearby hospital, while I take Ogooluwa to Oak.
“When we got to Oak, the doctor that attended to us said there was no blood again in his body and that he had passed on and there was nothing they could do.
“When I tried to create a scene, my husband held me that what we needed to do was to save the life of the elder brother in the other hospital. The younger brother was buried that night.”
Oluwaseun, who insisted that the hospital was at fault, said she wanted justice.
She said she wanted the hospital to admit that someone failed to perform his or her job diligently and the culprit should be punished.
When PUNCH Metro contacted the owner of Oak Hospital, Dr Ayodele Kalejaiye, he said the death of the child was not caused by the hospital, adding that the deceased was later diagnosed of food poisoning.
He said, “When someone dies, the family will always want to blame it on one thing or the other. When the woman met me, I had to come out of my leave to meet her personally.
“When I checked her records, she came in with food poisoning herself and her two children came in with cough; they were managed for cough and discharged. It was after they were discharged that they came back with food poisoning.
“I called the medical director to investigate and in her presence, he told her that it was a case of food poisoning. So, before one of them could come in, it was already bad.
“It is not the hospital’s fault; antibiotics were prescribed to the child because of cough and antibiotics cannot dry up blood. I checked their files; the antibiotics were prescribed in the right dosage.”
Oluwaseun, however, refuted the claims of the hospital, saying they were cover-ups.

Background
I was born and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, but I am originally from Iwo, Osun State. I am the second to the last child of the family. My fond childhood memories include that of playing a game calledKelegbe with my siblings and some friends.
Education
I attended Francis ‘M’ Nursery and Primary School, Agbowo, Ibadan, for my elementary education and Orogun Grammar School, Orogun, Ibadan, for my secondary education. I also attended the University of Ibadan where I got a Diploma and BSC in Library Archival and Information Studies.
Career
I was given my first role by Sola Kosoko and the title of the movie is So So Kenke. Meanwhile, I have always had passion for acting right from when I was in secondary school. My first time on set wasn’t too difficult. I got my lines right but I was naive at first because I was so shy. However, I adapted and the rest is history.
Parent’s reactions
My mum wasn’t surprised at all; as a matter of fact she prayed for me and wished me well. It was after I lost my father that I started acting. I am sure if my father was still alive, he would have also been proud of me.
Breakthrough
I was brought to the limelight by the movieAromimawe. It was my second personal production but many people think it was my first. I produced the movie in 2015. Some of the movies I have featured in are Morili Orofo, Ebu-Ika, Aruga, Excursion, Simbi Alamala, The Chain and Egg.
Challenges
Challenges are everywhere. Most producers or directors want to sleep with actresses before giving them roles, but only desperate actors fall for it. That is why it is good for one to be financially stable so as not to fall victim of this. If they don’t call you for jobs, you work hard and become a producer.
Personal productions
I have produced about five movies and their titles are Aromimawe, Omo Ibadan, Natasha, Gbakoje and Morili Bilisi. I am currently working on a multimillion naira project that I have to shoot before the end of the year. Though I stay in Ibadan, I don’t think it can limit my reach as an actress because I travel often and I believe there is no limit to what one can achieve with hard work.
Role
I found the role of playing a typical Ibadan girl very challenging. My character in Gba Ko Je as Morili was exceptional because as an actor, you should be able to transform into any character in order not to be stereotyped. Before accepting a script, I consider the script and the director of the movie. I would like to play the role of a ghetto bred. I love everything about being an actress because it is what I enjoy doing. I am very passionate about acting. I would love to act alongside Gabriel Afolayan and Majid Michel because I admire the way they act.
Taju
I saw Taju’s video on Instagram and I felt so bad for the little boy because I wondered why a five-year-old boy wasn’t in school. That was my motivation for helping him. If some people feel I did it for publicity sake, I understand because it is normal for people to talk. I am not surprised. I don’t care what people say or think about me, as long as it won’t stop me from doing the right thing.
Ibrahim Chatta
The story that I had a relationship with a fellow actor, Ibrahim Chatta, is a bygone issue and I debunked the rumour a long time ago. People who are talking about it are still living in the past.
Fame
Nothing has changed about me. I still remain the same Funmi Awelewa Babalola and it has been God’s grace so far. But being famous can cost one’s privacy. People say all sorts of things about us. Some people have even accused me of bleaching my skin but it is not true.
Other interests
I currently don’t have other interests because I am focused on my acting career and building a brand for myself. I believe everything in life is by God’s grace.
Role models
I love Funke Akindele, aka Jenifa, because she is an amazing actress.
Men
I like tall, cute and dark men.
Relaxation
I relax at home whenever I have the opportunity to because my house is very comfortable. Whenever I am not on location, I relax at home.

The Edo State Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly robbing a policeman and dispossessing him of his service pistol in the Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were alleged to be members of a five-man gang who specialised in unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents of Siluko, Iriri and Ekenhuan axis of the state capital.
Southern City News gathered on Friday that the suspected robbers had accosted the policeman in Oliha, Oredo Local Government Area of the state, and ordered him out of his vehicle.
It was learnt that on sensing danger, the plain-clothe security officer, was said to have attempted to use his service pistol, but was overpowered by the gang.
The robbers allegedly made away with the gun.
But two of them, identified as Emmanuel Oghenevo and Kelvin Aroiwa, were later arrested following a tip-off.
Oghenevo, who claimed to be a driver from the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, said that the gang was surprised when their victim brandished a gun as they were ignorant of his identity.
He explained, “One of us, called I. Y., collected the pistol from the policeman and hit him on the head. As the policeman was coming out of his vehicle, he brought out his gun to shoot us.
“We did not know that he was a security operative. As he brought out his gun, I. Y. dodged and pushed him. Another member of our group, Emma, pinned his hand and took the gun.”
The suspect, however, alleged that he was pushed into crime by poverty and the hardship he was going through.
“I started robbing early this year. But I have not killed anyone. My family was suffering and there was no other way to feed. So, I decided to join the gang.
“I am not happy about my arrest and I advise those involved in crime to desist from it. If I am forgiven, I will leave robbery and join the police,” he said.
But Aroiwa, who claimed to have been under the influence of alcohol when the crime was committed, told Southern City News that he was arrested by policemen at his hideout in the Aduwawa area of the Benin metropolis.
The native from Odighi community in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state, said, “We were at Ring Road (in Benin) when one of us told us to go to Oliha. I told them that I was drunk and would not be able to go.
“But they insisted. So, I followed them. I did not even know when we got to Oliha. To say the truth, I did not even know when they collected the gun from him (policeman).
He added, “As we were driving out, they woke me up angrily and told me that they had collected a pistol. We later went to Ekenhuan road where we robbed another man. I was at Aduwawa smoking when the police arrested me and took me to a police station.”
However, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.

In 2007, towards the tail end of Tinubu's administration, Sanwo-Olu was appointed Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
And between 2007 and 2015, Sanwo-Olu served as Babatunde Fashola’s Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions.
Even in this government headed by incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, Sanwo-Olu serves in it as the Managing Director of Lagos State Property Development Company.

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly paid $375,000 to a woman who accused him of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009.
Ronaldo’s accuser signed the three-page settlement, following an unofficial deliberation in 2010, on the condition she would drop all charges and never speak of the agreement in public, Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine reported, as relayed by the Irish Times.
The Real Madrid star, who was at the center of a separate rape accusation in 2005, has not spoken publicly of the 2009 incident, and the Portuguese lawyer who signed the document on his behalf reportedly declined to comment to the magazine.

After becoming aware of the report, a second lawyer for Ronaldo contacted the magazine, denying any wrongdoing by his client and warning them to drop the investigation.
Ronaldo, a former FIFA World Player of the Year, was arrested in 2005 on suspicion of sexually assaulting two women in a penthouse suite in London. Another man, allegedly with Ronaldo at the scene, also was questioned by police.
A 20-year-old with Manchester United at the time, Ronaldo denied all claims, and the charges against him were dropped a month later due to insufficient evidence.

The Bower Memorial Tower is a 60 feet tall tower located on the hill top of Oke Are in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo. It was built in honour of Captain Robert Lister Bower, the first British Resident in Ibadan, in 1936. The tower has about 47 spiral staircases and gives a panoramic view of the brown roofs of the whole city from its top. |

Many people like me actually look at the three alphabets on Nigerian number plates and wonder what they stand for.
Actually they stand for Local Governments or their headquarters. Since Lagos is one of the most popular cities (If not the most popular).
Lets start with Lagos number plates.

JJJ = Ojo Local Government
KJA = Ikeja Local Government
AAA = Ademola Adeniji Adele
FKJ = Ifako Ijaiye *
AKD = Ibeju Lekki Local Government (the council Headquarters is in Akodo)

Happy birthday Nigeria! Our blessed country is 58 today and here is wishing everyone out there a happy and fulfilling independence day celebration.
Nigeria is great nation with great people from diverse cultures and you probably didn’t have any idea that Nigeria has the following amazing facts about it:
1) Nigeria is home to seven percent (7%) of the total languages spoken on earth. Taraba state alone has more languages than 30 African countries.
2) The Jos Plateau Indigobird, a small reddish-brown bird, is found nowhere else on the planet but Plateau state, Nigeria.
3) The Yoruba tribe has the highest rate of twin births in the world. Igbo-Ora, a little town in Oyo state, has been nicknamed Twin capital of the World because of its unusually high rate of twins that is put as high as 158 twins per 1000 births.
4) Sungbo’s Eredo, a 160 km rampart equipped with guard houses and moats, is reputed to be the largest single pre-colonial monument (or ancient fortification if you like) in Africa. It is located in present-day Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and when it was built a millennium ago, it required more earth to be moved during construction than that used for building the Great Pyramid of Giza (one of the Seven Wonders of The Ancient World). The most astonishing thing is that Sungbo’s Eredo was the biggest city in the world (bigger than Rome and Cairo) during the Middle Ages when it was built!
5) The Walls of Benin (800-1400AD), in present day Edo State, are the longest ancient earthworks in the world, and probably the largest man-made structure on earth. They enclose 6500 square kilometers of community lands that connected about 500 communities. At over 16000km long, it was thought to be twice the length of the Great Wall of China, until it was announced in 2012 (after five years of meticulous measurement by Chinese surveyors) that the Great Wall is about 21,000km long.
6) According to the World Resources Institute, Nigeria is home to 4,715 different types of plant species, and over 550 species of breeding birds and mammals, making it one of the most ecologically vibrant places of the planet.
7) The Niger Delta (which is the second largest delta on the planet), has the highest concentration of monotypic fish families in the world, and is also home to sixty percent of Nigeria’s mangrove forests. You should know too that Nigeria’s mangrove forests are the largest in Africa and third largest on earth.
 Ile-Ife, in present day Osun State, was paved as early as 1000AD, with decorations that originated from Ancient America suggesting there might have been contact between the Yorubas and the Ancient Americans half a millenium before Columbus ‘discovered’ America.
9) Sarki Muhammad Kanta The Great of Kebbi, was the only ruler who resisted control by Songhai, West Africa’s greatest empire at that time. He founded and ruled the Hausa city-state of Kebbi around 1600 A.D and built Surame its capital, a planned city which was almost impossible to penetrate during war. In fact UNESCO describes Surame as “one of the wonders of human history, creativity and ingenuity”, and probably the most massive stone-walled constructions in West Africa. He is listed in Robin Walker’s 50 Greatest Africans.
10) The Anambra waxbill, a small bird of many beautiful colours, is found only in Southern Nigeria and nowhere else on earth.
