wanaj0: Long term does not mean you go to sleep. Even with long term, you need to scan what is changing in the landscape. If the fundamentals changes, you need to respond. When you don't trust the management/board of the company, you need to opt out. Many people are buying shares of companies now who are managed by 'crooks'. Of course, the bulls are here so nobody care. When the euphoria is over, reality will dawn on people.
If you bought a company producing typewriters and the company did not respond to the changing landscape with respect to popularity of computers for example, soon that company will be worth nothing.
The market will ALWAYS recognise value. It is just a matter of time. You have just put "Long Term" approach in the right perspective! All I keep hearing is how teachers bought shares in the 70's and became billionaires. We had a discussion severally years ago (you may not remember) about RTBriscoe, then fundamentals were good when at share price of N4.00. I had the shares then and after discussing with you, you confirmed what I had in mind. Things changed later and I had to drop the shares pretty fast, I don't know if you did as well but knowing you, you must have seen the signs before I did. When we paint a picture of long term, we need to make full disclosure for newbies that might not fully understand. |

Coolcash1: To those who feel buying and holding stocks for long like our fathers did need to have a rethink. This is because most of the stocks were bought at very cheap prices, management of those companies were committed to the growth of the organisation and not people after pecuniary gains, macro economic stability was there at the time i.e exchange rate was strong, government created the right policies and environment for businesses to thrive, friendly socio-political climate and so on.
Due to these favourable factors and also sound corporate governance, most of them were at ease committing their hard earned resources into the future of these companies.
Now things have changed! Most of those variables that encouraged them to hold are now almost if not totally gone. The country risk is now higher. For instance, a threat from the niger delta Avengers now is enough to scuttle the ongoing bull in the market. Also, we see a lot of financial shenanigans being played now by corporate executives such that when the bubble bursts it can send the company to the undertaker and investors money is wiped off. I can go on and on...
Therefore, it is unwise now a days to believe you can buy and hold forever or very long time. Constant monitoring of one's investment is germane now. It's best to do periodic portfolio review so as not to be caught in the web of our papas medieval investment style..
My take. The thing about Emma is that he keeps quoting NESTLE and NB whenever he preaches about long term being far better. CADBURY was once as good as nestle (in terms of fundamentals) before they went under (down below). The man that invested in NESTLE could have also invested in CADBURY. As far as NSE is concerned, I don't believe in long term. Maximum for me is 1 year (depending on the season) sometimes 24 hours. I once made serious dough trading FCMB almost daily (buying and selling same day) and this went on for over 2 weeks (Thanks to FCMB market markers though). Prices will always reverse. |

locodemy: Some started jijo with sound stocks since then must have make more than double of what the guy made. I am not saying long term is not good but it depends on ones plan.LOCO CANT TRY IT.I CAN GIVE MAXIMUM OF 2 YEARS IF NEED......... People have refused to accept the fact that what works for A must not work for B. Some thrive only on long term while others do on short term/ JIJO. No specific method is superior! I have cycled Diamond (severally and heavily) from 84k all the way to 1.86 when I became uncomfortable with the share price. Would it have been better if am still on the bus, YES but do I regret it, capital NO. We will still board the bus again after the whole noise must have died down. Onyemaechi? N1.00 won't be bad (though it may be unattractive at this price when the time comes). This is NSE where impossibility doesn't exist. Skye Bank was once very attractive at N4.00 but I later cycled it from 50k to 76k. |

emmanuelewumi: I
A retired Sales Representative sold his house( a block of 4 units of 3 bedroom apartment) at Ketu Lagos for N2 million because of tenants wahala, failure to pay rent etc. This happened in 1999, not long when Obasanjo came to power.
And used the money to buy more stocks of the company he worked for and just retired from. Nestle was between N19 and N20, in 1999 and 2000. Can you comfortably use this same narrative for a branch manager working then in International Bank or Oceanic Bank and having bought shares of same bank? We always choose to highlight the success stories. |

currentprice: do u think something happen to UBA as well? Uba traded 69b unit toady Funny... CP, I go blow you head knock! You know that some stock do pari passu in terms of price increase/decrease. I believe UBA/ACCESS are currently playing same. Just the same way we had Fidelity/FCMB/Diamond playing their catch up game. The thing about Access Bank is that if "that" seller had held back his/her/their shares for just 2/3 trading days, the shares will be sold at an additional N3.... But seriously needs to offload immediately and never gets done with it. Remember how Diamond Bank shares were offloaded last year. They couldn't get a cross deal partner, they proceeded to float the shares at N1.00 and everything was done within a matter of days. And there was no bull then. Maybe part of what has made it difficult for Access Bank is the fact that no institutional investor with deep pockets is looking their way. I hope there will be fresh news soon that will attract them. Meanwhile we keep watching the stock for another round of cico. |

emmanuelewumi: Are you sure you can cope with Flour Mills, it may not move for 2 months but it will get there and beyond.
Do you have the maturity and temperament , to be calm when things don't work according to your projections, just that way it is happening with Access Bank? If only you know.... I know the stocks to go for when this euphoria dies down. It's not for jijo. And do not cite Access Bank, there's more to that stock and in due course we will get our confirmation. Just gut feeling, I don't claim to have insider knowledge. |

This market is crazy.

Zhirinovsky: My brother its was a mistake. the person quickly spread the offer in 500 thousand units in different prices and kept some behind. That has been their tactics since last week but i thought that the bull will definitely bleed them out but I was wrong. LOL. Very silly seller. I hope you didn't sell at a loss ooo. They will get tired one day shaaa (though it's looking like a bottomless pit). But the bottom line is that no deep pocket is interested in the stock! |

mendes911: I saw that and I doubt if it was a mistake. I strongly believe there's a calculated attempt to keep Access Bank Share price low. It still baffles me.
They put up that 5m units at 12.80 and other offers quickly joined at that price and below. And it also seems like none of the big movers of this market is interested (to increase their holdings) in Access Bank. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mendes911: 12:05pm On Jan 17, 2018 |
Zhirinovsky: I agree with you. I just dislike the cunning way the big access holders are playing the game. I just saw a single offer of 5 million units that was deletd just 3 seconds of it coming up. the seller mistakenly entered 5 million instead of 5 hundred thousand. It is better that access is on full offer so that people will look elsewhere than making 2% in midst of this bull we dont know if such will come again. This is the time for small single portfolio managers to double their portfolio and I dont want anybody here struggling like me to waste this oppurtunity waiting for access to move. I saw that and I doubt if it was a mistake. I strongly believe there's a calculated attempt to keep Access Bank Share price low. It still baffles me. They put up that 5m units at 12.80 and other offers quickly joined at that price and below. |

This Access Bank Entity must have dropped close to 500m units by now. I said it before, this is a case of the army engaging a superior fire power.
And he's callous. Callous in the sense that he's not making his trades attractive at all. Compare to the entity that offloaded Diamond last year. They dropped their price to N1.00 and brought out the whole baggage within a space of 4 days. Everybody saw it, got interested and bought.
This Access Bank guy is doing all he can to dissuade the price from moving up! I sold last week Friday when I couldn't wait anymore and bought back on Monday (well lower than exit price) but my anger is that we are supposed to have ripped good returns on Access Bank by now.
We keep waiting for him.
May this entity loose credentials to his portfolio after today. |
