Politics / Imo Has 385,654 Uncollected Pvcs – REC by metroblogger: 7:43pm On Jul 26, 2017
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo says it has 385, 654 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) yet to be collected by residents in the state.

Prof. Francis Ezeonu, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), disclosed this at a one-day Stakeholders Forum held in Owerri on Wednesday.

He said that only 1,435 PVCs, which is about 0.004 per cent of the total 397,089 PVCs, had been collected so far.

Ezeonu expressed worry that registered voters were not desirous to collect their PVCs.

According to him, people could only exercise their political powers to the extent that they had the card to vote and chose their leaders.

“The commission is not also very satisfied that the women are not turning out in droves to register.

“The commission’s gender policy focuses at creating platforms for equal access and participation of both men and women in the electoral process,” he said.

Ezeonu appealed to women and other critical stakeholders to use the opportunity of the women’s annual August meeting to mobilise women to participate actively in the exercise.

On the ongoing voters registration, Ezeonu gave the total number of registered voters as 39,803 with more registered males of 23,158 PVCs (58 per cent) against 16,645 (42 per cent) females.

Giving a further breakdown, he said that 491 persons had requested for replacement with 332 PVCs recorded as displaced, while 159 PVCs were misplaced.

The resident electoral commissioner said that 1,628 persons in the state requested for transfer comprising 1,320 persons for interstate transfer and 308 persons for intra state transfer.

He gave the local government area with the highest registration turnout as Owerri Municipal with 4,539 pvcs, followed by Aboh Mbaise with 2,638 PVCs and Ngor Okpala having 2,544.

Onuimo LGA, he said, had the least number of registered voters with just 341 persons, Idiato South LGA and Ohaji Ebgema LGA trailed with 622 and 792 registered voters, respectively.

Ezeonu said that INEC, for the first time, was instituting a continuous voters’ registration (CVR) exercise unlike previous years.

He said the last registration began on April 29 and ended on July 20, adding that the list of those registered had been displayed in INEC offices in local government areas for claims and objections.

He urged the people, as major stakeholders in the Nigerian democratic project, to go and check their names, collect their PVCs even as the second phase of the exercise would resume on July 31.

Ezeonu said the forum was a call for synergy among the stakeholders, especially in creating more awareness and encouraging the people to go out and register.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the stakeholders had demanded for funds to enable them go to the grassroots to create the awareness.

They blamed INEC for most of the rigging during elections and its inability to go to the grassroots for registration.

The stakeholders said that INEC was encouraging political parties to rig by allowing them to go to the people for registration.

The state Chairman of ADC Party, Mr Nlem Ignatius, the State Chairman of AA Party and the Deputy Chairman Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr Anthony Ahanetu, agreed that INEC, as a federal institution, was well equipped to carry out its responsibility of registering voters. (NAN)

Politics / Lagos LG Elections: Electoral Materials Hijacked In Odi-olowo LCDA by metroblogger: 1:39pm On Jul 22, 2017
Suspected thugs have taken over some polling units in Odi-Olowo local council development area of Lagos state.

Security agencies had marked the LCDA as a flashpoint.

A witness at Adegbite area of the council told Metronaija that the suspects chased away voters at unit 031 and hijacked the electoral materials.

“I came down here to exercise my rights. We were patiently waiting in the queue when these people got here,” he said.

“They slapped the electoral official in charge of the unit and ordered him to bring out the ballot papers. As I speak to you they are busy thumb printing. I have also been informed that some other polling units in this area were affected.

“We were told that there would be enough security personnel on ground but nothing of such. I regret leaving my house to come here.”

Celebrities / Obj's Son Jonwo Abandoned Bride, tope Adebutu At Wedding For 5days by metroblogger: 2:05pm On Jul 06, 2017
Their wedding, albeit superlative, was marred with controversy from day one, when it was announced to the public. First, it was the resistance of the groom’s mother, Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo, who insisted on a postponement of the wedding, for spiritual reasons; and even went to court to make good her intention. But this was not to be, as the wedding went on as planned;as her case was thrown out, perhaps due to the status of the couple’s individual fathers, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and billionaire businessman, Chief Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu.

The wedding came and held as usual, but what transpired shortly after the reception still leaves much to be desired, as the groom, Olujonwo Obasanjo, allegedly suddenly disappeared into thin air for five consecutive days, apparently avoiding an already-planned honeymoon with his beautiful bride, Temitope Adebutu (now Mrs. Temitope Obasanjo.)

It was as if the young Obasanjo was trying to play the script of his mother, who had initially kicked against the wedding of her son to Baba Ijebu’s daughter. We gathered from a very close source that Jonwo, no sooner than the rites of the marriage were concluded on May 13, than he was said scampered out of the venue for an undisclosed place, which later turned out to be the posh Inter Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where he spent good five days, allegedly in the comfort of other women.

While in the hotel, Jonwo was said to have switched off all his phones to avoid any communication with his immediate family and possibly those of his new wife, who were everywhere looking frantically for him, in anticipation of the planned honeymoon. This so much angered the bride’s family, especially the bride’s father, who obviously felt embarrassed and ridiculed by the shoddy behavior of his new son-in-law. But the situation was quelled when after five days of disappearance, Jonwo suddenly showed up with no plausible reason for his disappearing act, and the two are now said to be in Monaco (France) for a two-week honeymoon, well over a month after their roller-coaster wedding.

Son of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the daughter of billionaire mogul behind Premier lotto, Sir Kessington Adebutu, are having the time of their lives in the fun island of Monaco. Insiders revealed this much that the couple left a few days ago, and planned to spend two weeks in Monaco to catch their breaths and know each other more. “They are at Monte Carlo Beach Hotel,” an insider divulged. News of the postponement of their honeymoon reached us a week ago with sources claiming that they were planning a July trip to the United Kingdom because of their busy schedules.

But at the last minute, they opted for the Monaco trip. The wedding of Baba Iyabo’s son and Baba Ijebu’s daughter was loudly announced with controversy. The mother of the groom (Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo) had sought postponement in court and written the Methodist Church to this effect.

But the wedlock went ahead without hitches. The Thursday, May 11, traditional engagement at Balmoral Hall, on the grounds of Federal Palace Hotel on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island (Lagos), was as colourful as it was lavish; while the holy solemnization held on Saturday, May 13, at the Methodist Church of the Trinity and the reception followed at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel.

Introduced by Chief Kenny Martins, the goom’s mother’s twin brother, the lovebirds staged a high-octane nuptial, courtesy of their wealthy and influential parents. And in no time the controversies became history as the groom’s mother admitted much later in an interview that she has forgiven all. While Olujonwo works in one of his father’s many companies in Abeokuta (Ogun state), Temitope is a magistrate with the Ogun State government. What will however remain topical is how the groom, Jonwo, would just decide to stage such a disappearing act few hours after he was joined to his wife.

Career / 6 Useful Career Building Tips For Graduates by metroblogger: 12:58pm On Jul 05, 2017
Building a career can be exciting, it can also be stressful and sometimes frustrating. Having the knowledge of what to do right when building a career can help to significantly ease the whole process. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 6 useful career building tips for graduates.

Start Building Your Network Early

Remember the age old saying, ‘It’s not what you know, but who you know’. While this doesn’t prove true every time, there is a still a truckload of truth in it. As a young graduate, it’s important to start building your professional network early. Make connections with people, whether physically or on social media, get their contacts, relate with them and see where it leads you. Also, be willing to reciprocate any help you intend to receive from these people, so you won’t seen as self-serving.

Build Your Career on What You’re Passionate About

The honest truth is that your interest in whatever you’re not passionate about will fizzle out sooner than you expect. Yes, initially the business might be bring in money and keep you satisfied for a period, but soon after you’ll become tired, restless and eventually go in search of career fulfillment. So why don’t you just start early? Find what you’re passionate about doing and learning, figure out how to monetize it and build your career around it. But if it’s money that you’re passionate about, then by all means, you’re free to go after it. The crux of the matter is for you to build your career around whatever you’re passionate about.

Find The Right Company

It’s a well known fact that because of the employment situation in Nigeria, trying to be patient enough to search for the right company to work for might be impractical, but you should try as much as can to do so. This is because finding the right company to work for, goes a long way in helping to build your career in the corporate world, especially if you don’t intend to become an entrepreneur. You don’t want to end up working for a company that will waste the best years of your corporate life without impacting your life, helping you grow or expand your opportunities in any way. Making the mistake of working for such a company can unfortunately end up being irredeemable, so you need to be careful to find and choose the right company to work for.

Don’t Let Failure Devastate You

You just shouldn’t. This is because as you build your career many doors will be shut against you before one opens, and this doesn’t mean you’re not good enough or you’re a failure, it just means that you should learn from your mistakes, get better and keep trying until you breakthrough (and you’ll learn that eventually, you will breakthrough). As long as you keep trying, no matter how many doors are closed against you, not all doors will; if you don’t give up, a door will eventually be opened to you. It’s just a simple fact of life. So, perseverance, grit, determination and commitment are very vital to building a successful career.

Have a Plan

How can you build something without a plan? That question sums it all up. Even though things might not or most likely will not work out exactly according to your plan, have one nonetheless to guide you. You can make adjustments to the plan as life happens, but don’t abandon having one. There is no way to successfully build a career without a plan.

Have a Support System

Whether family or friends, have trusted loved ones that will make up a support system to help encourage you when things inevitably get tough. This will go along way in helping you keep your footing, continue moving forward and successfully build your career even when things get tough. If you’re not good at discerning those you can trust, then hire a career coach or psychologist to help you with this. You can also consider seeking help from religious support systems, if you’re comfortable with it.

Renowned celebrity photographer Ty Bello took to her Instagram page to share photos from her session with musician Flavour for the cover of his recently released album Ijele: The traveller.

She wrote:

Flavour N’abania : I really enjoyed making the cover photos for @2niteflavour album cover . The idea was simple .. the title was ‘Ijele : The traveller’ .. I knew he wasn’t talking about a physical journey but the idea of taking his sound to a different spaces . The words that came to mind were transitions.. transcending .. movements . I decided to not make this about clothes at all . His tattoos lend a whole lot to the narrative .. ‘music and me. .. ‘when you become one with the sound ..you start to travel with it . His back tattoo .. Psalm 100..Vrs 1-5 .. one of my favorites .We experimented with movements and dragged the shutter sometimes .

He was pleased with the results and happy to experiment. We spent the second half of the shoot taking some ‘fineboy’ photos . He really is an amazing looking human being .. seriously o.. ha!Works really hard to look that way too. Me ?..I’m inspired .. I hit the gym this week … I’m not even kidding ..God help me #tybellophotography#photostories#flavour
