Troops of 22 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE have during a fighting patrol earlier today, cleared Boko Haram out of Gujari village, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

This followed an information about the convergence of the terrorists at area aiming to launch attack on some of the nearby communities. During the operation, the troops neutralized 2 Boko Haram terrorist while an unspecified number escaped with gun shot wounds into thick forest. At the location, the troops discovered and destroyed a tailoring shed.

They also recovered 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Bomb, 3 DaneGuns, 1 Double Barrel Pump Action Gun, 2 Bandoliers, 23 Empty cases of Shilka Gun Ammunition, 2 Initiation water container and 1 Motorcycle battery. Others include 1 Search light, 4 Knives, 1 Solar Panel, 2 Jerrycans of 25 Litres of Automated Gas Oil, a Sewing machine and 12 Food flasks, as well as food items, soft drinks, pairs of women's shoes and several clothing items.

Today makes it 28 years in which www has been in existence, and its inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee says that the web has lived up to its vision.

Berners-Lee said disclosed today in Lagos that March 28 marked 28 years since he submitted his original proposal for the web.

He said that he imagined the web as an open platform that would allow everyone, everywhere to share information.

According to him, the www is a platform to access opportunities and collaborate across geographic and cultural boundaries.

“In many ways, the web has lived up to this vision, though it has been a recurring battle to keep it open,’’ he said.

Berners-Lee said that he established ‘The Web Foundation’ in 1989 to be at the forefront of the fight to advance and protect the web for everyone.

He said that advancing and protecting the web was essential to reverse growing inequality and empower citizens.

“It has taken all of us to build the web we have, and now it is up to all of us to build the web we want for everyone.

“Today, we are working with more than 160 partner organisations to advance our mission in over 70 countries.

“We are helping to change the lives of over two billion people by connecting everyone, raising voices and enhancing participation through the open web.

“We are building a future in which the web empowers everyone, everywhere, to take part in building a fairer world,’’ the web inventor said.

On what it was like growing up as an only female child: It wasn’t really fun though, I didn’t get any special treatment, I got the same amount of respect and same amount of beating. It would have been nice to have a sister, I have a half sister but I haven’t seen her before. It would have been nice to have a sister in the house though.

On how she handles fame and publicity: Basically you take the good and the bad part you remove your eyes. I mean I’m a very private person, if you see me at the club it’s most likely because my friend is doing something. I don’t normally like going out to party, but I’m a very fun person. Because now people know you and they are somethings you can’t do. You can’t be out there like before but like I said you take good part and just leave the bad.

A pregnant woman who was on her way to refill her cooking gas, was killed in accident that occurred in Obadare, Lagos.

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) says it has sealed up the premises of Yuan Dong (YDEC) for unacceptable investment operations in the country.

The Head, Corporate Communication of SEC, Mr Naif Abdussalam, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the closure was to end unlawful activities of the company against unsuspecting investors.

“Investments in the scheme range from a minimum deposit of N10,000 to a maximum deposit of N240,000.

“The investment period of the scheme is pegged at a minimum of 30 working days to a maximum period of 10 months with offer of interest rates on short and medium term basis.

“The company promises a daily profit of N80 and N2,400 depending on the category of investment,” he said.

Abdussalam said the commission’s investigations showed that the company also enticed its customers with payment of bonuses should they convince more investors to invest in the scheme.

He said that the commission had established that the company’s activities also constituted a breach of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA), 2007.

“Furthermore it was discovered that contrary to their supposed existence in over 20 locations across the country, the company only has functional offices in Asaba, Kano and Abuja.

“The promoters of these illegal operations have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force and are undergoing interrogation.

“The Commission wishes to notify the investing public that the company is not licensed to carry out investments business of any type and as such its operations are illegal,” he said.

Abdussalam advised the public to exercise due diligence and caution in the course of making investment decisions.

He said valid licence of lawful operators could be obtained on the commission’s website by members of the public to confirm the licences of firms they intend to carry investment activities with.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says that the current Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, has not disappointed him since he assumed office in 2015.

Obasanjo stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

While reflecting on the Buhari administration since 2015, Obasanjo said that the president had done his best to move the country forward.

“Whatever anybody says, President Buhari has not disappointed me from what I know of him,’’ he said.

He said the president had delivered on his core areas of strength and ability, particularly in the anti-corruption crusade and the war against insurgency.

“In my book, I have said that Buhari is not strong on the economy and I did not write this to run him down.

“I also used to think that he is not strong in the area of foreign affairs, but I have realised that he has improved very well.

“He has actually done his best in the areas where we know him to be strong,” he said.

The elder statesman urged Nigerians not to relent in their support for Buhari and not to give up on Nigeria.

“Whatever you might see as bad in Nigeria, other societies have gone through the same at some period in their history.

“It is not for us to begin to condemn but to begin to join hands together and consider how we can make the best out of our present.

“”Our present situation is a passing phase and we need to be resilient to ensure that we are not consumed by it.

“I will be the first to admit that we have not been where we should have been, but note that we have also been far from where we could have been because it could have been worse.

“It is the height of ingratitude for people to say Nigeria has not achieved anything or much as a nation.

“The generation before mine fought for Nigeria’s independence, that is great.

“My own generation, which is the next, fought to sustain the unity of Nigeria.

“Since 1999, Nigeria had enjoyed 18 years of unbroken democracy.

“We witnessed in 2007 a transition of power from one individual to another in the same party.

“We witnessed in 2015 a transition of power from an individual in the ruling party to another individual in the opposition party.

“All these should not be taken for granted,” he said.

Obasanjo also decried the call for national conferences or assemblies to negotiate the continued unity of Nigeria.

The former president who, described such conferences as distractions, said he did not bother to read the report of the last one organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

” We Nigerians need ourselves and if anyone thinks he does not need another person, good luck to him.

“What I see in all those groups trying to break away is that they want more of the national cake.

“The fact that you want more of the cake means that it is good and you like it, else you will not be asking for more of it.

“I do understand the agitations of the youths in that the increased facilities that now exist as against our own time have not translated to adequate opportunities for them.

“But I think that rather than engage in violence, they should think of how to build on the sacrifices of the generations before them,” he said.

The elder statesman, who would turn 80 on March 5, said he had no regrets at such an age.

He said that his hope that Nigeria would still be a great nation was still intact. (NAN)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued the kidnapped secretary of an eatate in Isheri area of the state, Dayo Adekoya.



Available reports have it that Adekoya was reunited with his family in the early hours of Monday.

He was kidnapped by gunmen numbering over 20, who also shot and killed three guards of the estate.



The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed the development.

Owoseni advised criminals to stay away from the state or have themselves to blame.
