Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has pledged to make the state be the Holland of Nigeria in terms of dairy milk production and other livestock products for other states to patronise. Bello made the promise at the Kogi State Agriculture Summit, tagged: “Moving Agriculture To The Next Level”, on Friday in Lokoja, as part of activities to mark his two years in office. “In Holland, everyone knows that Holland produce more than a quarter of dairy milk and meats for Europe and America. “Kogi will be the Holland of Nigeria where every other state in Nigeria will come and buy milk and other dairy products. “They will also buy meat, hides and skin, bones, horns and even cow faeces for manure, which will translate into cash for our people. “We are looking for opportunities to make money for our people. “If you have a parcel of land that you are not using, what will happen is that the pastoralists will come and you rent it to them for money. “Our youths and women will learn how to breed and keep these cows as well. “And what will happen is that we shall have hire cross breed cows that will produce more milk and high quality meats where other states can come and buy,” Bello said. The governor added that the state government was looking for opportunities and how to utilise them. “They said I am friend to Fulani herdsmen and hate farmers, but they are all falsehood on the pages of newspapers and television. “We are telling the people that we are tolerant in Kogi, we love our neighbours and seizing and maximising the best of every opportunity. “Very soon we will tell our Fulani brothers not to take their cows across border to sell again. “We will ask them to drop their cows in Kogi, and we will rent your land to them to stay. “A land where people can come and buy, pay tax to government and they will settle the land owners. “That your land that is there and not generating anything will become a hot cake. “These are the various benefits we will derive from our coexistence with Fulani herdsmen. “This is the way we are going to go; in the next six months we shall begin to see the economy of Kogi transforming very rapidly. “The Federal Government and international agencies are bringing money, grants to Kogi to support livestock production, including keeping these cows in form of ranches in one particular area with facilities called ‘cattle colonies’”. The governor restated his determination to support President Muhammadu Buhari in implementing his manifestos as far as revolutionary in agriculture was concerned. “We are empowering our youths to ensure that they have improved well being. “The era of free money is gone. It is time for us to bend down and work to make ourselves rich by returning back to agriculture. “We must return back to farm. Let us key into various programmes of this government, especially in agriculture. “All that is required is your interest and the land. “The government is supporting the people and adding value through cottage industries, so that farm produce can be sold with adequate gain. “You own your land, we shall give you fund, farm implements and create the market for you, what else are you waiting for? “Why can’t we tolerate our Fulani bothers and sisters who have lived with us for a very long time? And you want them to leave now to go where? “We have to be tolerant, we have to tolerate one another, it is out of tolerance that we gathered here today. “We develop the culture of tolerance by accommodating one another. “Hold on to your land, we will teach you how to use it judiciously to make huge money in the state; our land is our oil wells that can never dry,” Bello said. Earlier, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Kehinde Oloruntoba, commended the governor for making the necessary funds available, which had brought about the huge success recorded in the sector under two years. According to him, the state government invested over N2.5 billion in agriculture last year. ` “We now have functional equipment at a cheaper rate for farmers, and 50,000 tonnes capacity rice mills to be installed,” said the commissioner. He said that the Federal Government had selected 135 farmers in the state to access N4.3 million loan each for poultry production. He added the state had 500 hectares of rice farm and clearing another 500 hectares with a total target of 2,500 hectares. The news Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and other stakeholders also spoke at the summit. http://www.metronaija.ng/cattle-colonies-will-make-kogi-holland-nigeria-gov-bello/ |

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Wednesday that 14 candidates would participate in the Jan.13 re-run election in Anambra Central Senatorial District. Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka on Wednesday. He said the commission had already distributed non-sensitive materials to the affected seven local government areas in the senatorial district. “The sensitive materials would arrive the state on Thursday and once that happen, we will distribute them to the affected areas’’, he added. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, the election would hold in Awka North, Awka South, Idemili North, Idemili South, Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia local government areas. The INEC official said that a total of 7,670 ad-hoc workers would conduct the election in 1,548 polling units. Orji stressed that the commission had made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the election and urged the electorate to shun violence or any form of fraud during and after the exercise. On the purported order of a Federal High Court stopping the election, the REC said the commission had not received such directive. “As a state office, INEC Anambra is not responsible for policy issues, we get our directives from INEC national headquarters. “And no such directive has been received asking us not to go ahead with Jan.13 re-run in Anambra Central Senatorial District. “We advised political parties to play by the rules, because we will ensure that we deliver free, fair and credible election, which is now a minimum benchmark for INEC in any election we conduct’’, he said. Orji while responding to questions from stakeholders condemned the issue of vote buying which participants complained characterized the last governorship election held on Nov.18, 2017. He said combating the menace require collaborative efforts of all political parties, security agents and INEC officials. The REC therefore called on the people to join hands with the commission to improve the conduct of elections. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been barred by a court from participating in the election. The re-run followed the nullification of the election of the PDP candidate Mrs Uche Ekwunife, who was returned in 2015 as Senator for the zone. http://www.metronaija.ng/14-candidates-contest-anambra-senatorial-re-run/ cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Auto Draft Kaduna Government has warned teachers in its employ that they risk losing their jobs if they comply with the directive of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) to embark on indefinite strike as from today (Monday). Kaduna NUT on Sunday asked teachers to embark on the indefinite strike to protest the sacking of 21,870 of its members who allegedly failed a controversial competency test conducted by the state government last year. The state government had begun recruitment of 25,000 graduates to replace the sacked teachers. But the government warned few hours after the strike directive was issued by the NUT that it would not be blackmailed to retain unqualified teachers in a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, spokesman of Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He declared that any teacher who is absent from work would be dealt with according to public service rules, including dismal. “It has come to the notice of the Kaduna State Government that the state branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has declared an indefinite strike. “This is an illegal action, and will not achieve its aim of derailing the education reforms being implemented by the government. “The Kaduna State Government is not available to be blackmailed into knowingly retaining unqualified teachers. “Neither would it mortgage the future of two million primary school pupils because failed teachers are shamelessly mobilising sentiment,” the statement warned. The State government added that at the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Labour, the state government twice met in Abuja with the officials of the NLC and the NUT. “The governor, Nasir El-Rufai, personally led the state delegation to the first meeting. “During these interactions, the state government made it clear that as an employer, it has every right to determine who its employees are or can be, and the minimum qualifications they must possess.” Education administrators had been directed to open registers in all its schools, starting from Monday (today) and that any teacher that is absent from work will be treated with the consequences that pertain to absconding from duty under the public service rules. The statement said further that “there can be no doubt that the state government will take firm and decisive disciplinary action against personnel who absent themselves from duty, including dismissal from service. “The state government recalls that the NUT placed primary school pupils, who are the victims of failing teachers, in danger by pushing them into the streets to demonstrate for the retention of bad teachers. “That ruse failed. Some union leaders are also likely to be prosecuted for assault, unlawful procession and destruction of public property when they attacked the state House of Assembly. “The children of the poor are the ones that attend public primary schools. We owe them a decent standard of education, and we shall provide it.” http://www.metronaija.ng/go-strike-lose-jobs-kaduna-govt-warns-teachers/ cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

The lingering petrol scarcity continues on Wednesday across Niger State as only one truck was allocated to the state in the past two days. Mr Sunday Senchi, Head of Department of Petroleum Resources operations (DPR) disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after inspecting some filling stations in Minna metropolis. He said that only three filling stations dispensed petrol on Tuesday. Senchi explained that as at 12 noon on Wednesday no allocation has been sent to the state. The DPR official said that the state needs an allocation of about 30 to 40 trucks daily to end the scarcity. He explained that the department is monitoring filling stations to ensure that those with petroleum products dispense to motorists. NAN reports that Niger State has two NNPC depots in Minna and Suleja towns. Senchi warned that the department would not hesitate to dispense products free to motorists from any filling station caught hoarding. According to him, the department will also ensure that no filling station sell above the government approved prices of N145 per litre. At the Maitumbi area of Minna, stations such as Muhabat, First Ja’az Global Resources limited and Mutmusa Nig limited were selling above pump price when NAN correspondent visited the area on Wednesday. Meanwhile, investigation by NAN indicates that motorists spend days at the NNPC Mega station, which is the only one selling at N145 per litre. Kabiru Abdullahi, a resident of Sauka Kahuta, told NAN that he spent two nights to get the product at the NNPC Mega station. He said that the scarcity was affecting the daily activities of residents. Abdullahi called on the Federal Government to constitute a mobile courts to prosecute those found hoarding and selling the product above official pump price. ”If you go to Tunga, Bosso, Old Airport and Maitumbi in the metropolis, you see children selling the product openly. ”I just bought a four litres fuel for N2,500. ”Government should investigate how the product got to the hands of black marketers.” Malam Bashir Musa of Maitumbi told NAN that ”all the filling stations in Maitumbi have the product but are selling at N400 per litres. ”It’s really business for the black marketers as they are making brisk profit at the expense of motorists.” Musa called on the task force set up by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to investigate how the product was diverted to black markets. Ishaku Idris, a commercial driver, said that he slept for two days at the NNPC filling station and pays extra money to petrol attendants to buy the product. NAN reports that many petroleum marketers in Minna metropolis closed their stations, while the few that opened, sold the product at official pump price but collect extra money before selling. Hawkers were seen around filling stations making brisk business as five litres of petrol was sold at N3,500 to N 4,000 depending on the location. Abdulkarim Bello of Ahmadu Bello way told NAN that the task force set up by the NSCDC should redouble their efforts at ending scarcity. He also called on the state government to continue to monitor the products distribution to end diversion by marketers. http://www.metronaija.ng/niger-state-gets-truck-fuel-2-days-scarcity-lingers/ cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday disputed claims that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was one of the major funders of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 campaign. El-Rufai who spoke on a Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service Programme, “Democracy Today”, challenged the former Vice President to come up with evidence to prove that he donated to Buhari’s 2015 campaign, according to TheNation. He also said Atiku left All Progressives Congress (APC) because he has seen that with Governors’ endorsement of Buhari for second term, there was no room for him to run for president. El-Rufai said: “We in the APC were aware from the outset that Atiku was going to leave the APC back to the PDP in December and we thank God that he left in November. “Atiku had seen that we in the APC, especially the APC governors, had resolved to support President Muhammadu Buhari to run again in 2019. That is why he left APC since he was only looking for where to contest for president. “Even in the 2015 APC primary election, Atiku didn’t come second; he was floored by Kwankwaso. So, even if President Buhari decides not to contest, Atiku knows that the APC ticket is not sure for him. Majority of the APC governors have endorsed President Buhari as our candidate for 2019. “And God has continued to improve the health condition of the President. Each time I see him, I thank God and I still pray that God continues to give him sound health. “So, by 2019, we are waiting to see Atiku contest; we are waiting to contest against him and see what happens. I cannot lose sleep because Atiku wants to contest because, by God’s grace, this is the reign of President Muhammadu Buhari. “Agreed, in politics if you lose even only one person, it should worry you, but the utterances of the former Vice President that APC used his money who did he give the money to? For me, I know those that supported us with their money and property that we used during election, and I never heard the name of Atiku that he brought a dime. If Atiku said he brought money, who did he give it to? Let him come and say it and how much did he give and what was it used for? “And, in fact, if Atiku brought money, I ought to know, because I was part of the leadership of the party and during campaign, along with former Governor Rotimi Amaechi. We were at the centre of the presidential campaign. Therefore, we are supposed to know. So, let him mention who he gave the money and how much? He also said only APC members who are greedy would follow Atiku to PDP. http://www.metronaija.ng/el-rufai-atiku-didnt-spend-dime-buharis-2015-campaign/
