The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has directed its members to stop attending to health needs of commissioners , special advisers and other categories of political appointees in Kogi State until further notice. Dr Magnus Ogaraku, the Chairman of the state chapter of the NMA, announced this at a news conference in Lokoja on Thursday. He said that the ban also covered the family members and aides of the political appointees. Ogaraku, who spoke shortly after an emergency meeting of the Executive State Officer Committee of the association, directed doctors in public and private hospitals in the state to immediately comply with the decision. The Chairman, who was flanked by the state Secretary of the NMA, Dr Zubair Kabiru, also directed doctors working in all state-owned hospitals to commence an indefinite strike immediately . Their counterparts in the Federal Medical Centre will embark on one week sympathy strike as from Jan.30, he said. He attributed their action to the mass sack of doctors working in the state government hospitals and refusal to pay their salary and allowances as and when due. According to him, the leadership of the NMA met to review developments and the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the government on the issues and discovered that government has failed to keep to its promise. “The NMA abided by her own side of the MoU by extending the ultimatum by two weeks to allow the state government implement the MoU as signed. “The Kogi State Government has completely reneged in all aspects of the MoU. The report of the staff screening and verification as released has put doctors in Kogi state in a more miserable situation. “Several doctors were prematurely sacked, un-cleared or declared as ghost workers under very flimsy excuses that are not in conformity with laid down civil service rules”, Ogaraku explained. The NMA said it had no confidence in the Appeal Screening Committee as composed and will not honour the outcome of its exercise. “In order to reduce the untold hardship to the innocent patients as a result of the strike caused by Kogi State Government, Federal Medical Centre Lokoja and the Private Clinics shall be available to render services during the period they are not on sympathy strike”, the body stated. http://www.metronaija.com/2017/01/nma-bars-doctors-from-treating.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 re-arraigned a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja on a 7-count charge of money laundering and procurement fraud to the tune of N9.7billion Umar, among other things, during his tenure as Chief of Air Staff between September 2010 and October 2012, allegedly used N700million that was withdrawn from NAF account to purchase a property at No 14 Vistula Close, Off Panama Street, Maitama Abuja. He was said to have used the Dollar equivalent of N500million removed from NAF account to also purchase a four bedroom duplex with boys’ quarters at Road 3B Street 2, Mabushi Ministers Hill, Abuja. The former NAF boss also allegedly used the US Dollar equivalent of N250million to purchase a property situated at No 14, Audu Bako Way, G.R.A. Kano State, in 2011. The offence contravenes Section 15(2) (b) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011, as amended. One of the charges reads: “That you, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, whilst being the Chief of Air Staff, Nigerian Air Force between September 2010 to September 2012 in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the court directly converted the United States Dollars equivalent of the aggregate sum of N4, 846,630,000.00 (Four billion, eight hundred and forty six million, six hundred and thirty thousand naira) only removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force, when you reasonably ought to have known that the said funds formed part of the proceeds of your unlawful activity, to wit, criminal breach of trust and corruption, and you thereby committed an offence contrary Section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 as amended and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act”. before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba. Umar, who was first docked on May 11, 2016 while entering his plea again today, pleaded not guilty. Upon his plea, Hassan Liman, SAN, applied for his release on bail. He prayed the court to allow his client to go home on self-recognition as he was previously allowed to do by Justice Binta Nyako who was hitherto in charge of the case. However, counsel to the EFCC, Sylvanus Tahir, raised concern that he was not very comfortable with one of the bail conditions earlier granted based on ‘self recognition’. He also noted that the bail term had neither price tag nor surety attached. In a bench ruling, Justice Dimgba ordered the defendant that the defendant should continue with the earlier bail condition and produce two sureties of either civil servant or business men with a landed property at any satellite area in Abuja. The defendant is to also surrender his international passports to the court. The judge added that failure to meet up with the bail terms within a week will result to the defendant being remanded in prison custody. The case has been adjourned to February 13 and 14, 2016 for commencement of trial. http://www.metronaija.com/2017/01/efcc-re-arraigns-ex-air-force-chief.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

A Nigerian OAP has writte an open letter addressed to rapper and YBNL boss, Olamide over his Olamide In Conert, the t3rd edition which held some days ago. The Radio and TV Personality, Adenike Oyetunde wrote: “Dear Olamide, what HAPPENED? What!!! I attended #Olic2 and without a doubt, it was by far my BEST event last year. I talked, and talked about it; everyone around me that didn’t go, knew they had to this year. Imagine my excitement when I saw these pictures by TyBello, I knew #Olic3 was definitely going to be a hit. I needed to see ‘Olamide Live In Concert’ *coughs. In my life, not even at either Canaanland or Redemption Camp had I EVER been stuck in such traffic. No clear plans on controlling humans (forget that we are peculiar here). The plan was go with Uber. There was a change, and a friend’s friend took @mayowaekpo and I. What should have taken maybe 30minutes max, turned to two years in traffic. Nobody deemed it fit to tell us that no cars were going into Eko hotel; we were all just hoping; stuck in traffic. Having to walk so far, isn’t always my first option; for obvious reasons. Then I got into the hall, Olamide, why? I came in just as you were done with your first outing and I figured, he’ll be back. You came back ONCE, while I was there and you played CD. Olamide, CD I’m still too lost.CD… Like, ALL that for ‘DJ, track 2’. Wait first, collect your money from the sound people; BAD, BAD sound. Even Adekunle (God bless his heart) who did LIVE for us, they sha spoilt his sound. I, Adenike Oyetunde came to see You Olamide, LIVE, (it was a complimentary ticket, FYI), and you hounded me with Comedy. HOW How does that even work?Alibaba’s January 1st Concert is coming, I’ll get comedy there, WHY, did you succumb, Why? I thought you had it all figured out; but, awon aye sold this BAD idea to you. By the way, were you at Asa’s show? If not, PLEASE, Watch the CD. That’s what LIVE IN CONCERT is on about. I was TOO disappointed and I can’t hide it. Excellency is KEY. You had ONE year to plan. I honestly didn’t see ANY plan oh; at least, to me. Of course, I still danced, I screamed, I took videos; but, from last year; it could have been WAY better. I will not comment on that uncle that was jumping arand with you!!! Give us what we ‘paid’ for Nigerian Artiste, PLEASE. Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command over the weekend arrested Suleiman Seidu, 33, for attempting to kidnap a two year-old boy, Chimdi Udwu, in Owode area of Ogun State. The Decoy Team of the squad got a hint about a kidnap attempt on a little boy by one of the two persons who the prime suspect had contracted to perpetrate the crime. Upon gathering further intelligence, a member of the RRS Decoy Team posed as a lady that the kidnapper sought to help give the child a good care. RRS source disclosed that for more than two weeks while the kidnapping took shape, the investigator, pretending as an accomplice, was exchanging information with prime suspect. It was revealed that the suspect, assured the accomplice that he has gotten motorcycle to use in kidnapping the boy, stressing that the ransom was N10 million, which the father of the parents of the boy would be able to afford as a landlord and dealer in electrical appliances. It was learnt that when the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, was informed of the jurisdictional challenge of arresting the kidnapped suspect in Ogun State. The CP ordered the Decoy team to proceed assuring them he would contact his colleague in Ogun, adding that there was no jurisdiction in crime. Source in RRS disclosed that one of the kidnapping suspect was shocked by the insistence of the prime suspect to kidnap the little boy and request for N10 Million ransom. He continued: “I knew it was going to boomerang if I conceal the information and not inform the police…. Then, I called one of my friends who resides in Lagos and explained the whole idea of kidnap attempt on an innocent boy by someone in my neighbourhood, and the person also solicited me to join him to commit the crime…. It was this my friend that told me to come to Lagos to inform the RRS, which I eventually came the following day to report the case at its headquarters in Lagos,” the informant was quoted as saying. The source added that the suspect had successfully kidnapped two persons in Kogi State where he collected huge ransoms from their families. Upon his arrival at the RRS’ Headquarters in Lagos, the suspect who confessed to the crime said that he wanted to kidnap the young boy because his biological mother is seriously ill and looking for money by all means to pay her hospital bill. In his confessional statement, he revealed, “I have been on the trail of that young boy and her parents for quite a while now. I conceived the idea to kidnap him when I was left with no option than to commit the crime because my mother is very ill at the moment…. I wanted to demand for N10 Million ransom but if his parents cannot afford the whole at least I was expecting N3 Million at the end of the day…. Although, I just relocated to that area and I am not that familiar with the nooks and crannies of that area very well…. Then, I thought of contracting someone who knew the environment very well and would make the job easy for me.” Interrogating him how he would carry out the kidnapping, the Kogi State born suspect explained, “I had been watching the movements of his parents for about two weeks. I discovered that whenever he was taking the boy to school every day, when the man drives out…. He would alight from the car to lock the gate because they don’t have a gate keeper in their house. Also he takes him to school between 7:00 a.m and 8:00 a.m…. What I devised was to kidnap the boy whenever the driver alights from the car to close the gate, escape on a waiting bike…. Although, I live in a room and parlour apartment, I had planned to keep him with me in my house to be demanding and threatening his parent to bring my expected ransom.” The father of the child, Udwu, who had no inkling of the looming woe, thanked the Policemen for carrying out the intelligence report successfully which led to the arrest of the kidnap suspect. Reacting to the incidence, the Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, said that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the Police investigation. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/12/photo-rrs-foils-kidnap-attempt-of-two.html

Wizkid, Olamide, Psquare and an array of stars were in form as they thrilled Lagos at the 2016 edition of the Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged. The show is organised by Flytime Promotions, one of the foremost names in live entertainment and music promotion in Nigeria today. CEO, Cecil Hammond started organising concerts and promoting artists over 12 years ago and under his management. Flytime has hosted some of the most successful live entertainment events in Nigeria, working with both local and foreign artistes. Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged, which is in its 12th year, is West Africa’s most popular concert. The event which held on Friday, December 23 had performances from P-Square, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Falz, Omawumi and many others. It was hosted by Bovi and produced by Cobhams. Cobhams showed his masterful touch in the sonic setup and interpretation of sounds by the artistes, as every star came up with a tailored performance that matched their strengths, and minimised all of their weaknesses. Music came from the combination of a DJ and a full live band, with backup singers and more. Nigeria’s finest, Wizkid, has been all over the international music scene this year. A song with Drake, MTV awards wins, various collaborations and a Grammy nomination is the summary of his year, before medical advice from his doctors made him cancel all of his holiday concerts. But he defied his doctors’ orders to abstain from performing, as he took to the stage, payed respect to Cecil Hammond, the organiser of the concert, before diving into a set that contained a selected number of his hit songs. He was backed by collaborator DJ Xclusive, who cued in ‘Jeje’, ‘The Matter’, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’, ‘Caro’, ‘In my bed’, and many more. Psquare also played a set where they dug deep into the past to give a medley of their biggest hits, while taking time to scream, “Psquare is back”. Peter Okoye was backed by dancing from Don Flex and crew, while Paul led the singing. Other DJs who performed on the night include DJ Cuppy, the daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola. Otedola was a honoured guest, who sat front row and watched his daughter perform. He later hit the stage to present the Flytime Appreciation awards to Basketmouth, for his service to the concert and friends. The comedian broke down in tears as he accepted the recognition with thanksgiving. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/12/photos-wizkid-olamide-psquare-at-pepsi.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44

The Kogi government has suspended collection of taxes on trucks carrying produce pending the resolution of the crisis that led truck drivers to block the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene highway on Dec. 19. Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, the chairman, Kogi state Board of Internal Revenue Service, made the disclosure to newsmen on Tuesday in Lokoja. He said that the action was also in compliance with a letter from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture which directed suspension of collection of taxes on produce. He said that the drivers decided to block the highway in their bid to give effect to the letter from the ministry. He said that the board was not aware of the existence of the letter until the action. Oseni however clarified that collection of taxes on produce would resume as soon as the crisis is resolved. He said that the board, the consultants handling the collection of taxes on produce, the leadership of the truck drivers and other stakeholders would meet on Dec. 21 to find lasting solution to the crisis. He expressed hope that the meeting would arrive at modalities for collection of taxes on produce being moved through the state. The Chairman said that the current official rate charged for vehicles conveying produce was between N1, 000 and N1, 500 per truck. He criticised the consultants for charging above the official rate without the knowledge and approval of the board. He admitted that the consultants approached the board for a review of the rates from January 2017 but added that government was yet to agree to the proposal. “What the consultants are currently remitting to the coffers of the government is N18 million per month as against the N2 million per month being remitted under the previous administration. “We have also been able to recover arrears of seven months remittances which were outstanding under the immediate past administration,” he said. In the early hours of Dec. 19, scores of truck drivers blocked the Abuja- Lokoja-Okene highway to protest collection of exorbitant tax ranging from N5, 000 to N10, 000 from them by the consultants. The action led to traffic jam on the busy highway with passengers and commuters trapped for more than five hours.
