A typical village in UK and villages in Nigeria

When UK talk about villages, it includes good roads, electricity, clean water, hospitals and every other things the city enjoys.

When Nigerians talk about village, most likely muddy roads, no electricity, no clean water and brown roof and so on

Can we ever get there?
I really don't understand you guys. The British empire ruled the world for more than a century. They pillaged countries and continents for resources and used same to develop their own lands and you want to compare them to Nigeria that came into existence through forced coalition by the same British people

That's the beauty of a policy. It sweeps across everyone not minding your social status.

You do have a point because, due to cheap labour in China, America products are already at disadvantage. This tariff will make it even worse. But Trumps demand are quite fair and justified. Americans has been paying high tariffs on goods from other countries
how?

How are Americans paying the higher tariffs before now?

For me he deserves it, he's unarguably one of the strongest defender and unofficial spokesperson of the President. He has helped to keep a section of the marauding Internet version of ESN and IPOB bandits at bay.
His yet to be officially announced is a lose -lose situation for the Internet bandits. If it turns to be false, they'll attack Reno, that the President has abandoned him, despite his fierce defence of the policies and actions of the President, if he gets the appointment, the bandits will accuse and insult the President of rewarding rascalities and indecency.
Head or tail, wailers must wail!
so someone who is supposed to represent the whole Nigeria irrespective of where you come from is seen as being an attack dog against a section of a country?

I'm not bothered about his job but he should remain there and not be made to represent the whole country. He looks biased already

What are the phobia of investors when it come to investing in real estate most especially for the diaspora?
the exchange rate is one problem.

Say you invested $50,000 in a project, when you want to get ROI, you will get almost double the naira value but then you will be almost at a loss when you convert it into the initial currency you invested.

Secondly is Nigeria factor, you ask people to help you manage your project and they will start and finish their own project on your head meanwhile you're still struggling to complete yours. Just recently, one of the biggest realtor I. Lagos is embroiled with a scandal where an investor claimed he invested 300ml and only got 50ml at the time of maturity and the company and CEO has blocked his access to them

I support Trump 100%. A reasonable country will cut down on their tarrifs on American imports and make American imports cheaper for their citizens. Can you imagine what a lesser tariff on cars will do for us in Nigeria?

America is not even fully reciprocating and the world is crying. When some countries are having over 50% tarrifs on American imports, did they hear pim from America?
those numbers Trump was showing you people are just trade imbalance between America and several other countries. America is the biggest consumer in this world and as such, trade between them and other countries wouldn't be equal. At one point, they were our number customer for crude oil meanwhile, how many of us can afford to purchase their products brand new. How many iPhones are sold as brand new straight from Apple to Nigeria, how many Ford motors are bought and sold as brand new in Nigeria.

So if you check the our bilateral trade,it would seem like we're leaching on them meanwhile,we are just too poor to afford their goods and services.

That's exactly what Trump is using as his tariff base

so in your opinion,we buy things from the US?

You people are always discussing subjects beyond your mental capacity. Those second hand stuff we buy from US aren't counted as trade between Nigeria and US. The same applies to many countries who can't afford to purchase US made goods and services. Why musk is angry about EU tariff is because they are the few who are rich enough to afford US goods and services and the tariff will make it more difficult for them to buy and do they will have to replace his cars for Chinese made cars such as BYD. Already BYD are selling more than than him in several places and this trade war will make him less competitive

FutureFocus:
It won’t be a wise move for Nigeria, our trade volume is huge to the benefit of US , Trump tariffs will reduce our purchasing power of American goods , that will bring increase in Korean and Chinese goods , it will even help the Naira against the dollar because it will reduce our direct dollar spending to the US, at the long run, Trump regret his move , there are counter policies against his moves , some he would later regret

Nigeria should work on security and power , then implement a policy that says major companies must produce here if you want to sell your product here, this will reduce importations , increase local production and create employment
the Koko is that we are not purchasing anything from US. Most of our purchases are second hand and they're not calculated as trade. What Trump doesn't understand is that American goods and services are too expensive for most people in the world and his tariffs will push people away even more

The current tarriffs causing problems are not about factories but reciprocation , the idea is to force countries to reduce their predatory tarriffs against US goods and services, the factory tarriff are just for countries using proximity to US market to attract factories countries like Mexico and Canada..
you people and making excuses for Trump. So what about tariffs on countries where only penguins exist?

What Trump did was using trade imbalance to impose tariffs

how will tariff benefits take hold?

How long do you think it will take for a factory to be built. Remember that machines for the factories will also be under tariffs. An average factory will take at least six to ten years.

Foxconn has been building their factory since Trump first tenure and they haven't finished

Meanwhile such draconian rules no longer apply. You use your area of strength to compensate and compete.

USA has the intellect while China has the labour. That's the essence of globalisation. Companies will rather pay the tariffs than manufacture in the US because of the cost of labour

I am yet to see a Nigerian bank that allows HNI to borrow against their stock options, the only stuff I have seen is HNI using bonds, fixed deposit, Treasury bills or mutual funds as collaterals.

2. real estate does not mean landvalone, there are many options, commercial buildings, farm lands, industrial complexes, office spaces, luxury properties home and abroad and the obvious ones lands, yeah these are real assets.

3. Starting a business does not mean it will be successful, there are hundreds of ways for HNI to make money without starting up any business. ( There are bonds, MF, Hedge funds, etc)

4. elumelu real estate portfolio isn't transcorp, I am talking about personal real estate portfolio which will consist of luxury properties, commercial office spaces acres of lands( farm land inclusive) etc.
his real estate portfolio is included in his worth. Most of them are tied to his UBA bank

if Lagos can't do it,no state can do it

Stocks are financial assets and not real assets and can go to zero.

So all their assets aren't tie to stocks.

Many rich people assets are very diversified, a part in stock, cash in hand, real estate, gold and all sort of real assets.

In Nigeria, stocks are chargeable assets and you pay capital gain tax on them.

The only stuff you don't pay tax on are dividends ( returns on your stocks)

Get your facts rights before typing stuff and stop watching too much movies.

Many rich people in Nigeria have lot of cash in hand and they use Debit cards just like every other people tied to their name
and this is why they leave their stock portfolio intact and borrow against it whenever they want to make big purchases.

Talking about real estate, I personally don't see it as investment option. Say you bought a land for 5ml today and sell for 30ml in five years, you just buried the 5ml and left it dormant. If you have invested 5ml in business, the ROI will be more.

Elumelu for one has real estate portfolio but it's also in form of stock options (I have forgotten the name of the hotel chain)

you are not correct

Forbes does not have access to bank accounts or assets of HNI. Many of their assets are not in public, they are hidden

Forbes only have acccess to public information like stocks info in a PLC, they dont have access to bank accounts, debt , hidden bank accounts, gold holdings and other assets
how do you think the rich get by? You think they have a billion naira somewhere that they can easily access?

First, they tie up all their investments in stocks to enable them avoid paying personal income taxes

Secondly, the company takes care of all their personal needs (travel, feeding, clothing etc). The company will write these things off as cost of running the CEO office. They keep a very little liquid cash for impromptu emergencies only.

That's why that your rich uncle will always give you a date before he helps you because he gets by monthly on a budget and you interpret it as juju timeline

So yes, their finances are easily traceable

his worth is public knowledge. Everyone knows his investments and their worth in every company.

Something about the rich is that at certain levels, your personal worth becomes public knowledge. There are people who are constantly watching all his moves and copying his investment strategies so he can't hide

Nigerian media often mirrors the public’s tendency to prioritize sensationalized narratives over factual analysis. When comparing Nigeria’s budgetary allocations and population size to peers like Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt, it becomes clear that the country’s resources are insufficient even for a single major city like Lagos, let alone the entire nation.
exactly what is happening. Egypt is currently building a new capital from ground up and they are spending almost twice the Nigeria's annual budget ($58bn versus $28bn)

then remove your statement about the number being up to 5000 if corrupt politicians are captured because it's entirely wrong and it fuels the wrong narrative that Nigeria is rich and that the politicians are all billionaires in dollars.

They steal and it's entirely wrong because we don't even have enough to sustain our over population but not like we imagine

So what's your reasoning here, the state resources are too small for politicians to embezzle so it doesn't matter? The fact that you even think Nigeria is a poor country shows just how little you know about the economy. Not to even consider the fact that all that goes into a politician's pocket comes only from the IGR, completely ignoring the billions of dollars they borrow yearly for "infrastructural developments" we never get to see after their tenure ends.
I'm saying that the amount embezzled is exaggerated by the masses. If a state governor decides to steal #2bn monthly, that's less than $2ml monthly and in eight years, it's less than $200ml

But ask an average person,he will tell you that the governors are richer than Dangote.

This country is extremely poor and the masses have a whole different idea and expectations
