I was there even through out last week and to my amazement, still saw okadas plying the roads around 10pm, the streets is still with people as if nothing is happening.. People are not that secret, they would have come out if there is anything inhumane... Make findings before you use mouth hang people sir. |

The death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has resulted in many allegations and denials to surface. The palace officially announced the monarch’s death on August 12, Wednesday. The Royal Traditional Council of Ife maintained that the Oba is alive and in good health for two weeks after reports about his death surfaced. While controversy rages about the Abobaku, who was reportedly said to have run away after the death of the monarch, Social media is awashed with so many fallacies and jokes. Trust Nigerians, always bringing joke out, from every events, but much as we may want to be humorous about this, we should also not join hypocrites in joking with every single thing, (Especially if it lacks any iota of truth), who knows, it could be someone close to us in future. Have started seeing tags like "Run away abobaku", i was just laughing, read many tweets saying "The abobaku is smart" "Aregbesola should pay the abobaku", Others saying, is the abobaku blind when he was taking the title? i just. laugh at their sheer ignorance, ignorance can transform to a full blown disease, from epidemic to endemic if caution is not put in place. I smiled at the level of ignorance we sometimes portray on salient issues of national interest....When i saw some picture posted by a nairalander, i just wish media reporting would be better one day. In this present day,it is appalling how people just use pictures they see around to support the useless junks they write, simply because they know this would appeal to the public. Am a Muslim and would never be a party to hypocrisy. This how they would bring pictures and videos of Liberia and somalia war and tag it with Islam (you see caption like "Muslims beheading a christian in Yobe" .It's most unfortunate that we don't do our findings very well before joining badwagons in making someone look bad just because we don't subscribe to their way. Note: My analysis here is in no way to appraise any religion class but to admonish us to be cautious before we judge people unfairly. Now to the issue on ground, the issue of "Abobaku" started on social media just like joke, where a faceless Nigeria disguised as abobaku tweets that he is on the run because Aregbesola has not paid his salary, funny you would say? Yes an Abobaku on tweeter and who does that? As a long time student of knowledge, have learnt to understand that few percentage of the Older generation has embraced ICT, with bulk of them adhering to majorly Facebook. Even few among we so called youths make use of Twitter, skype, instagram among many other social networking platforms. How much an abobaku who would have been a stalk illiterate ( If there is even an abobakuin the first instance). As an Indigene of the ancient town, i can tell you that even 90% of the palace chiefs are stalk illiterates, except few that they may have primary school leaving certificate. Am a Practicing Muslim that preaches "Religion Tolerance" everywhere i go, i do not see myself as All-in-all, it's a privilege to be in Islam, all i can do is to use characters and acts to display the beauty of Islam to whoever cares to embrace them, coercing people through gimmicks could be inimical. Let me set it straight, "No such thing as Abobaku in Any Yoruba land again and even in Ile-ife" I challenge you to come with your evidence and i stand to be corrected. As an indigene of ile-ife with requisite knowledge of Ife chieftaincy and Culture... It is important to make many Nigerians know that the issue of"Abobaku" was last witnessed in any Yoruba land, almost like 4 generations ago, Ooni never had any Abobaku, and nothing of such even in the days of his immediate predecessor, Sir Adesoji Aderemi who died in 1980. The closest to Ooni of Ife in any form or loyalty rank is called "Sarun Odua" and he is even an High chief. I wish Nigerians should fear God, as they have nothing to gain by discrediting YORUBA culture, just to make a point. If there is anything of such, tell us the name ofthe bearer. People should not just sit in their room and start twitting what is never the truth.. BELOW ARE THE COMMENTS FROM CONCERNED IFE MEDIA PERSONALITIES AS GIVEN BY MR FATAI ADIYELOJA (G.M NTA SAKI) Lanre Akintilo commented on his Facebook account about what now happens with the trusted stewards of the Obas. He said: “ Quite a number of no-truths and distortion has been written regarding the eloping of an entity called ‘Abobaku’. In Ile-Ife, the person so referred to is called ‘Saarun’,head of the ‘Emeses’ who are stewards to areigning Ooni. The Saarun is the head andclosest aide who must go everywhere the Ooni goes. It follows in the days of hold that uponthe demise of an Ooni, his most trusted aide andsteward will be interred with him to continue his life of service to his master and as well show hisloyalty.“I personally know the Saarun that served late Oba Adesoji Aderemi (late Chief YayaArasanmi) While Oba Aderemi passed away in 1980, his late Saarun passed on in 1987, andseven clear years afterwards. The current Saarun will not be buried with late Oba Sijuade as the practice has since been stopped in Ile-Ife. So there is no need to elope. I am a proudson of Ile-Ife and I am well grounded in thetraditions and cultures of my people. It will not happen. ”Balogun Jr., the senior manager of business development at Global Media Mirror Limited, publishers of National Mirror, also reacted to the Abobaku saga. Read what he has said on the development:“ When the Abobaku saga started, I was so sure someone was just being funny, I mean, anybody with a passing knowledge about Yoruba history would surely get the joke. But days later, the story was still trending, and somehow, some very senior, and well respected journalists also join the fray.“I can excuse the quasi or emergency journalists, those who have gained notoriety and fame neither for their unique turn of phrase nor for any intellectual bent, heck, some cannot even write a complete sentence to save their lives, but just because news reporting, like almost every thing else, has been dumbed down to sound bites. “I can also indulge those who are not Yoruba, the Omoluabi concept is complex enough for some freeborn, not to talk of strangers. The first thing I expect an average educated and enlightened mind to do is to mentally fact check the story. “The Abobaku concept is exclusively an Old Oyo template, and was never a practice in Ife. Even in Oyo town, it is no longer in vogue. Any student of Yoruba history would tell you that the practice of the crown Prince of Oyo dying with the Aalafin was the immediate cause of the Yoruba wars, which lasted a hundred years. “I know fake news is the order of the day, but sometimes you begin to question our ability for critical thinking, spreading a story because it is popular, not because it is true, is one of the pitfalls of using the social media as a primary news source.” My Conclusion We should endeavour to get our facts right and never join badwagons to Paint Our Culture red. We should only condemn what is in humane and not be an advocate to issues that makes mockery of the revered"Traditional Institution".This is not the best way to correct certain norms, a false alarm is not only detrimental but also undignifying. Ife People are Versed and knowledgeable Yoruba People and would not condone or be part of any Fetish Practice, the media and those behind the unfound social noise should be aware "Life hereafter" or "Atunbotan". We should not raise dust where there is none. Lateef Eluyemi, "Concerned Ife Mind" Writes from The cradle of Yoruba Race. God Bless!!! cc. Lalasticalala ishlove seun

Duru1:Funny, how do you know am far away from the intrigues? if i, a son of the soil is far away, how much more an abuja blogger who i can bet has not visited ife before, yet claim to know more.. I pity many Nigerians, this is same way they told us wrong buhari son, until the innocent guy came out to say he is not...... All i ask for is an evidence of an Abobaku in ife? Atleast the writer should know about him, since he knows so much about the inner intrigues.... Smh! I can tell u the names of ife chiefs, titles and line of duities.... NO one is an Abobaku, its a folklore or age long practices that the media just feel to play with... |
Alex Reporters, you know you can be sued for this crap you wrote? You brought skirmishes of old news together to feed the public with lies.... Please, do us a favour by showing the following; 1. Where. the interview with chief Yemi Elebubon was held? if i it is not outdated interview. 2. Where did you get your findings that "Ife king" had an abobaku? If so, kindly tell us his name for Nigerians, because we wish to know. 3. Thirdly why do you hungry bloggers just weave nonsense together just to sell and gain traffic? The picture u pasted there is during one of ifa annual festival weeks, the two men you showed are dead, one is Agbongbon of the source, chief Akanni Falolu. If you can not provide answers to the given questions, then am seriously disappointed. How bloggers and lie crooners have suddenly come up with nonsense on daily basis, is becoming worrisome... I laugh most time when i see fabricated stories just to feed uninformed Nigerians. Let me set it straight, "No Such thing as Abobaku in Any Yoruba land again and even Ile-ife" I challenge you to come with your evidence and i stand to be corrected. Nelrulez: Nelrulez:No Abobaku in ILE-IFE! Do you have an "Abobaku" in your home-town? Ife is not so different from very many Yoruba town. I wish we would always ponder on some news feed before spreading them. The damages we keep giving our culture is incomparable, we have suddenly forgotten that there is a great difference between "Culture and Tradition". We attack the latter most often, thinking we are appraising the Westernised and Behind-whites way of Life.. No such thing as Abobaku, i challenge you to make your findings.. It's becoming worrisome how we believe every thing we see on social media, this is the same way they told us "Salt water bath would guide against Ebola" and almost all the funny local scientist have seen are coming up with theories of how it may be true, until the conceiver of the costly joke came out to say it was a mere joke from two Jobless Undergraduates.. Information dissemination in the modern age, has indeed suffereda major setback in the hands of Rumour peddlers. Ife People are not custodian of a fetish Practice. |

President Muhammadu Buhari says he has received with sadness the news of the transition of one of Nigeria’s foremost traditional rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II. “President Buhari extends sincere condolences to the late Ooni’s family, his friends, associates and subjects, as well as the government and people of Osun State on the departure of the First Class Monarch,” a statement by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina read. “The President joins them in mourning the revered traditional ruler who will be long remembered and celebrated for his worthy service, over more than three decades, as the Chief Custodian of the traditions of the Yoruba's and his invaluable contributions to the sustenance of the cultural heritage of his people within and outside Nigeria.”“Buhari believes that Oba Sijuwade’s place in posterity has already been assured by his long and worthy service to his people and country as well as his notable contributions to the development of his community, state and country as a leading businessman, administrator and inspirational traditional ruler. ”He urged the Ooni’s family, friends, associates and subjects to be consoled by the knowledge that he lived a very fulfilled life, and has left worthy legacies for his successors to build upon.”He prayed that God Almighty will comfort all those who mourn Oba Sijuwade and bring forth a worthy successor to to take his place on the ancient throne of Ile-Ife. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/08/12/oba-sijuwades-place-in-history-is-assured-says-buhari/ |

Vakinmuyiwa:Really? Waoo.......... 50% of UTME is 200/400 40% of CBT is 40/100 10% Oral So someone that has 46% in utme and 60% in CBT and may be 5% in oral has a shakky. Thought Post Utme was meant to correct all the defaults and anomalies of Jamb but its seems many schools are really re-affirming it. My opinion though! thanks for the Information bro. |
MY TAKE Op is a short sighted fellow, funny and worst courses are in advance countries.. Why do you think there is "African study" in Cambridge?? Why are they offering French and other language in US schools? Cos every small thing matters to them over there. The truth is that most of the courses we have in Nigeria have no relevancy to our Labour market, that is why a graduate that studied a course for four years, would be asking where he or she can work. Many of those courses were introduced when Nigeria was still great, courses like Print Technology (Gone are the days of Academic press and many other paper mills like one in Erin ile, kwara state). These structures are now abode for rodents and games. Polymer Engineering , Agronomy ( When Agriculture was still the hallmark of our national Economy), Industrial and Textile Engineering, Paint and Glass Technology (History had it that Kaduna alone has nothing less than 50 textile factories then couple with many others in places like Ado-Ekiti), this industry absorb the graduates of the aforementioned courses as their manpower, Metalugry and Material science (most of our steel rolling mills are now moribund and in comatose).. Having said all that, This does not warrant this scrapping of this courses cos only a short sighted country would do that, because a visioneer plans for where he or she is going and not where he or she is, presently. Many graduates of Agricultural courses like Animal Health and Husbandry, fishery among many others are even ashamed to explore the world of agriculture, you find them looking for jobs in banks, attending management trainee programmes in FMCG, in Auditing companies and the likes, thereby dumping what they went to study for five years! Many that studied Computer science are not ready to think and be gainfully employed, Graduates of Arts are now getting competition from even products of Law and many allied courses for the lofty Entertainment Industry. Now most graduates now focused on Entertainment, Joining forces like Army, NSCDC, Immigration, Police without the love of the job, Saturated Industries like Banking, oil and gas, Auditing coy like KPMG, PWC et al. Nothing like Hospitality and Tourism Industry, Even few are Looking at ICT, Agricultural sector has been totally Abandoned. Until Every graduate, sit down and think that what we study in school does not matter but what we bring out of it and how we can find something meaningful out there to engage in, we may continue to grumble for a long time. |

Nelson Mandela Quotes: 17 Inspiring Sayings From The South African Leader On His Birthday Nelson Mandela was born July 18, 1918 and died Dec. 5, 2013.What would be Nelson Mandela’s 97th birthday is Saturday, and the world will spend the weekend remembering the legendary leader. Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison and famously brokered the end of the apartheid in South Africa, served as the country's first black president from 1994 to 1999. From then until his death from a respiratory infection in 2013, he advocated for democracy and peace. Today, people everywhere celebrate Mandela Day, which the United Nations General Assembly created in honor of the activist's birthday. Throughout the course of his life, Mandela gave several memorable speeches. Read a few of his most inspirational quotes below, collected from Good Read sand Wikiquote: 1. “Live life as though nobody is watching, and express yourself as though everyone is listening.” 2. “Your playing small does not serve the world. Who are you not to be great?” 3. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. Thanks all for the commendations, am inspired. It pains to see a 2.1 graduate rusting out of the productivity mill while school dropouts are making a living from what we most overlook and commonize. Yet we keep hoping for a better day and job offer testimony that seems to be an unending event of life. Note: This article is not in any way targeted to downgrade the lofty admired office work or white collar job so to speak, but rather, to encourage graduates to give Entrepreneurship a critical look cos it Worth's exploring. Afterall, we have nothing to loose by engaging in one or two skills/enterprise while we are still searching for that job. Remember, a setback is not when we start experiencing life retrogression, it is when we have intelligently set our life to remain at the back-micronut. Thanks once again, Nairalanders! |
