Friends are expected to be there for each other at all times. It is, therefore, painful when a supposed friend now becomes one’s enemy by betraying the person. This is how anyone would feel when his/her fiancé/fiancée breaks up the relationship and goes on to marry the person’s best friend. Saturday PUNCH asked some people what they would do if this happens to them
I’d leave them alone
Akinbiyi Esther
Though this can be very painful, there is nothing I can do about it. I would still find a reason to be happy because I know the right man would come for me. I believe that the will of God will always come to pass in my life. His breaking up with me only means he is not meant to be part of my life. I would leave them alone to enjoy their lives. A worse situation than this could have happened if I had married him.
It depends on the circumstance
Ahmed Ayanfe
This is betrayal. There is no other name to call it. If this ever happens to me, I will never have anything to do with such a friend again because he can do something worse than that if I don’t avoid him.
I’d write them off
Mariam Arinola
I must have seen it coming. There is nothing that would happen in my relationship that I would not have seen a sign or be aware of it except I want to pretend. I would just write them off totally because I wouldn’t be able to stand the pain at all. I will not have anything to do with them again. I will not even attend the wedding (of course, they wouldn’t expect me to be there). Killing myself or anybody else won’t bring solution. It means she was not my friend in the first place. Such friend is just my greatest enemy and a green snake on a green grass.
I would console myself
Adeyanju Oladimeji
It will be disheartening if I lose someone I love and planning a future with. How could my friend do that to me despite knowing she’s my fiancée? Anyway, I will let it go and believe the lady was not meant for me because if she was for me, she would stick with me against all odds. I would be happy because what would have happened if I had married her and she started sleeping with my friend or relation? This will be the most heartbreak ever. I will console myself because a broken relationship is far better than broken marriage.
I’d wish them good luck
Oladipupo Funke
This would be one of the most painful things that would ever happen to me. It might take time for me to get over it but I won’t kill myself because life would certainly go on. I would wish them good luck in their marriage, but they would surely reap what they had sown. I would accept my fate because it showed that the guy wasn’t for me in the first place. I will not kill myself, but it would only teach me a lesson not to trust people again.
I won’t take it easy with them
Ademuyiwa Kehinde
People break up their relationships, not because they don’t love each other, but for different reasons. So it depends on the circumstances that brought about our separation and the kind of person she is. Remember, man proposes and God disposes. All the same, I won’t take it lightly with my friend. It is either they run away to where I won’t see them or else they will not enjoy their marriage. I mean, it is not easy to love someone and let her go just like that.
Life goes on
Sowemimo Ololade
It will be painful, but there is nothing to do other than move on with my life. I would leave them to God to judge. It won’t be easy to forgive them. I would never have anything to do with my friend again; she is a betrayer. I will enjoy my life and look for another person that will be better even though this might take long because of the fear of heartbreak.
I won’t kill myself
Shonde Moses
As a mature and fine guy, I will move on and pray for their happiness. I will never curse or fight them since we have not got married. There is really nothing one can do about it unless I want to commit murder or suicide, which is a crime. There is nothing I can do to change what has happened. I will move on with my life because I will find another lady to marry.
I may not get over it
Olabisi Olaitan
This is a sorrowful situation that I may never get over. I will be devastated because I can’t imagine my best friend doing that to me; that means she is a devil. It will cause a lot of emotional trauma for me, considering the love I have for the guy. But then, when there is life, there is hope. I will eventually get over it one day no matter how long it takes.
I’ll be sad
Archibong Anietie
Though it will be hard to accept, I may not get over it until after many months, but I will move on later. If she marries someone more handsome and intelligent than me, I will not be crossed with her. Otherwise, I will be so angry and may never forgive her because I will wonder what made her to leave me for my friend. And as for my friend, I will let him know he is not a good friend. http://punchng.com/will-fiancefiancee-breaks-marry-best-friend/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterI just asked my sweetheart this question and she responded without thinking twice "I will kill you, kill my best friend and lastly, kill myself"...Nairalanders, should I continue with her? A pastor, who was apprehended by irate mob and beaten to stupor for alleged car theft, has been detained by the Abia State Police Command. The pastor, Onyenweaku Chibunnam, who is the founder of a new generation church identified as the Assembly of the Redeemed at Ohafia, was said to be linked to a car robbery syndicate in the Amaekpu-Ohafia area of the state.
He was nabbed and tied up by irate mob including a vigilante group who reportedly caught him in the act two days ago.
Items like several vehicle license plates and car keys were found in his possession.
The self-acclaimed pastor, who confessed to the crime, was handed over to operatives of the state Police Command.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen while parading the suspect at the Police Officers Mess in Umuahia, the state capital, on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Leye Oyebade, said Chibunnam was caught while stealing a Toyota Camry in Ebem Ohafia community, of the Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.
He said Chibunnam was arrested with an accomplice, Prince Nnabugwu, who confessed that they belonged to a car-snatching syndicate.
“They were arrested after stealing the Toyota Camry from where its owner packed it some days ago.
“The suspects were arrested based on a tip-off.
“They confessed to have stolen six Toyota Camry cars from Aba and sold some of them to one Maxwell in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital,” the CP added.
The prime suspect said they did not snatch the car, but stole it from where it was parked.
He explained that it was their sixth in the last few months, adding that he usually sold the cars at 60,000 to one Maxwell who resides in Port Harcourt.
The pastor said, “Maxwell contacted me sometime last year to buy my car that I put up for sale, but he didn’t give me a good price for it, so, I couldn’t sell it to him. But when I stole an old model Toyota Camry last year, I called him to come and take the car I stole.
“We started having a misunderstanding when he requested the car’s original papers and I couldn’t provide them. I later told him that I stole the car.
“Maxwell became more interested in the business and gave me a master key with which I could steal Toyota Camry cars.
“I used the money from the crime to fund my 30-member church.
“I promise not to return to crime if I am set free by the police. It was the work of the devil,” he added.
Meanwhile, the CP, while urging members of the public to purchase their vehicles from only genuine car dealers, said the owner of the stolen black Camry Saloon had recovered it.
He, however, warned criminals in the state to relocate, saying the command would not relent in its war against criminality in the state. http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/11/use-money-made-stolen-cars-fund-church-abia-pastor/?utm_source=snap_dp1&utm_medium=twitter |

A thing like this can only happen in Ekiti....
From various Nigerian films I have watched, things like this happen only when the gods are angry with the people or the king of a town. The gods are either very angry with Fayose OR with the people for letting a man like fayose govern them when there are thousands of sane people who can do this far better. |

It was a morning of surprise for residents of Osin-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government of Ekiti State on Friday as a black nanny goat gave birth to a kid goat with two heads.
Residents of the sleepy town of Ekiti said the strange birth was the first ever in the history of the town which has existed for more than 50 years.
According to witnesses, the nanny goat which belongs to and Octogenarian identified simply as Mrs. Ola laboured for more than 24 hours without any success before veterinary doctors were invited for an emergency rescue of the goat which was already exhausted.
“It took the vet team more than two hours to successfully remove the two-headed creature from its mother,” an eyewitness said.
Many residents who witnessed the strange birth declined to speak, fearing that the occurrence has ominous undertone.
A middle-aged resident who spoke under the condition of anonymity confirmed that it was the first time he would hear of such occurrence since he started living in the environment.
“If it were those days of the past, the owner would be forced to visit the palace to say her own side of the story of how she came about the goat and the kid,” the resident said.
“It would be termed ‘fetish and chronic use of juju’ and the owner might even be sent into exile if proper explanation was not given.”
Another resident who also begged to remain anonymous held that a goat with two heads was the handiwork of evil-doers, testing their evil powers through this channel.
“It is not ordinary. God doesn’t make mistakes. Strange things are happening these days and I think the world is coming to an end like the Holy book said,” the resident said.
However, Dr. Abdulrasheed Shuaib, the veterinary doctor who led the team that eventually saved the goat from the strenuous strange birth said it was a mere mistake in nature.
The doctor who works at Temmy Vet, Oye-Ekiti explained that though he hasn’t seen such an incident physically before this one, it wasn’t a new thing.
He said, “Since issues like that happen in humans in the form of Siamese twins and many other congenital abnormalities. It simply means that during fertilization − the union of the male sperm and female ovum − forming a zygote, the zygote was supposed to completely split to give rise to two separate fetuses. Incomplete splitting of the zygote must have resulted in this and instead of two distinct fetuses, here we are with a kid with two heads.”
He said such births would have been easily carried out by surgery.
“Cases like this are usually successfully done only by surgery (Caesarian section) but somehow, miraculously, we were able to manipulate by traction and get the foetus through the birth canal,” he said.
“It was a nice experience encountering such though some were beginning to lose hope on the survivability of both dam (nanny goat) and kid through the manual method. I told them we have to get it carefully and professionally done, since surgery should be our last alternative.”
Under close gross examination, the baby-goat had two separate heads joined at the neck region, two forelimbs and two hind-limbs. Each head carried two eyes, a nose, a mouth, a tongue and a pair of eyes. Despite the fact that the kid was quickly disposed of, the news has spread around the town.
Dr. Abdulrasheed added that the strange birth could have been caused by series of environmental factors and what the goat has consumed during the gestation period like chemicals, smoke or haphazard grazing on unwholesome plants. http://punchng.com/goat-two-heads-born-ekiti/

Politics › We Are Not Aware Of Budget Padding – Presidency by midolian(op): 9:09pm On Aug 09, 2016 |
The budget padding controversy took a different turn on Tuesday as the Presidency denied knowledge of any padding in the budget presented to the President for his ascent.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ismail Kawu, told newsmen in Abuja that the budget signed by the President which is being implemented was not a padded budget.
Senator Enang who spoke after over three hours meeting with the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said in legislative palace, there was nothing like budget padding, pointing out that when the a budget is presented to the National Assembly, it is expected that they deliberate and pass it as they deem fit.
The former Chairman of the House committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumini Jubrin, had accused Speaker Yakubu Dogara, his deputy and two other principal officers of being the brain behind the budget padding.
However, while the controversy rages on, a group lawmakers which identified itself as Transparency Group had accused the executive arm of government of not free from the blame either on the issue.
Enang however, refused to give details of their meeting with the APC leadership, pointing out that they have all been asked not to make further public comment on the issue as the party was handling it as a family affair.
He said: “I am here on the invitation of the leadership of the APC with my colleague to bring answers to issues raised by the party on the 2016 Appropriation and we have been with the party for a little over three hours. We have given explanations to them on every issue and told them that there was nothing, to our knowledge, like padding of the budget.
“The budget as assented to by Mr. President is the budget as passed by the National Assembly and that is the budget being executed.
“But as of now, the party is handling it as a domestic issue, and all of us are enjoined not to make public comment on the details because the matter is still under consideration.
“So, that is what we will want to say for now, we will not want to go into the details of it so that we will not breach the ethics of the party, the directives of the party or pre-empt anything or any outcome of the party investigation.”
Asked whether the Presidency was giving the Leadership of the House of Representatives a clean bill over the issue, he said “I will want to say that we came here as persons who works as liaison officers on the budget because the party had questions for us and we came to make clarifications on the issues raised.
“We have made those clarifications and would not want to draw any conclusion. Please let us not go too far by mentioning any office. Let it be that the two of us appeared before the party.
“In all our years of legislative engagement, we are yet to find in the legislative lexicon the word ‘padding’. When the budget is presented before the legislature, the legislature is to consider the budget and pass as they deem fit. So what the legislature pass becomes the appropriation upon accent. Therefore, any word which is yet to crystallize in legislative lexicon, you cannot hear us mention it.” https://www.today.ng/news/national/165053/aware-budget-padding-presidency |

Crime › Etisalat Agents In Court For Swapping Sim Card Belonging To Jigawa Governor by midolian(op): 7:31pm On Aug 09, 2016 |
Three Etisalat registration agents, who allegedly swapped Etisalat sim card belonging to the governor of Jigawa State, were on Tuesday arraigned in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, Akinwale Ayodeji, 39; Kamal Sulaiman, 36; and Yusuf Sulaiman, 26; were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, illegal sim swap, and intent to defraud and steal, Vanguard reports.
Prosecutor Ben Ekundayo told the court that the three accused had between June 1 and July 3, in Lagos swapped Etisalat sim card number 08092241417.
He said that the management of Etisalat telecommunications got a report that the line belonging to Jigawa governor was illegally swapped.
“The sim swap was traced to Akinwale and Kamal, who claimed that Yusuf gave them the number.
“They did not follow the laid down process nor did the proper documentation, which has been the usual practice of the agents,” he said.
The Magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulire, said that the three accused must provide one responsible surety each and the sureties must be account owners in banks in Lagos.
The case was adjourned till October 6 for mention. http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/09/etisalat-agents-court-swapping-sim-card-belonging-jigawa-governor/Lalasticlala |

Crime › How I Was Kidnapped By Bus Driver @ Osun Motor Park – 300lvl Studnt (PICTURED) by midolian(op): 6:24am On Aug 07, 2016 |

A 300 level student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, identified as Praise Adelakin has recounted how he was kidnapped at a public motor park in the state. According to Punch, the 18-year-old girl was returning to Ibadan, Oyo State where she lives with her parents, when she met her nightmare.
Praise had gone to the school in the morning of that day to put her things in place in the hostel ahead of resumption after some weeks of strike by lecturers in the institution.
Around 4pm, she left for the Mayfair Motor Park, a public park in the town to board a bus going to Ibadan, where her family resides.
Praise was expected to arrive Ibadan by around 6pm on the same day, but instead she found herself in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital by midnight of the following day.
She said, “We’ve been on strike for some weeks. Meanwhile, new students had resumed three weeks before the strike, but due to the action, they were also sent back home.
“On July 23, I decided to go to school to check if my things were still intact and probably whether they had allocated my space (at Moremi Hall) to someone else.
“I got there and saw that my things had been scattered; my mattress had also been taken away with my buckets and other things, so I had to go round the rooms to gather them together. When I did that, I put them in my locker.
“When I finished all that, I decided to return home and that was around 4pm. I had arrived in school by 11am. So I went to the Mayfair Motor Park in Ife to get a bus back to Ibadan. It’s a popular motor park in the town because it’s a public one. When I got there, there were only two passengers in the bus and the driver was hanging around somewhere.
“All the same, I entered the bus to wait until we had enough passengers to take off. As at 7pm, we were only nine in the 18-seater white Mazda bus. It was getting dark, so everyone started complaining. We begged the driver to take off and told him that while on the way, it was possible he would get more passengers. He agreed and we took off.”
According to Praise, nothing in the driver’s appearance or the look of the bus suggested anything was fishy.
After all, they boarded the bus in a motor park, Praise thought.
She continued, “There is a university outside Ife town called Oduduwa University. A few minutes drive past it, our driver said he wanted to pass through a short-cut. He said because it was weekend, there was traffic in front. So he took us through the route.
“When we turned to pass through the so-called short-cut, we saw a bus in front of us and there was another bus behind us. It was a bushy path, but we were not so afraid because of the other two buses which were also taking the route. We thought it was a route which would take us to Ibadan faster.
“As we were going through the path, we got to a junction where we saw that the bus which was in front of us was already parked.
“The passengers had disembarked. As we got there, we were also flagged down by a group of about five men; our driver stopped and he himself ordered us to get down. Everyone was shocked and we wondered what was happening, but nobody talked. We were all just looking.
“The bus behind us was also stopped and the passengers in the three buses were up to 40. They asked us to lie face down. At that point, I became afraid as I knew something was wrong. As I lay down, I quickly sent a message on my phone to my dad, reading, ‘Dad, I am held hostage and I don’t even know where we are. I think I am in danger.
“My dad called me back after a few minutes, but I couldn’t pick it. The phone rang out. When they heard that my phone rang, they came back and collected my phone and others’. After collecting our phones, they went back to their meeting.
“After a while, they returned and surprisingly, they asked the passengers in my driver’s bus to get back in. They instructed our driver to go and ‘dismiss’ us off. I was afraid. I thought ‘dismissing us’ meant ‘killing us.’ Our driver looked disappointed, so he shouted at us to get in; he was now holding a gun.
“Everybody kept quiet. Then he drove away inside the bush till it was really dark. When it was around 10pm, he started dropping us one by one. He would drive for about 10 minutes, drop a passenger and give him or her their phone and bag, then drive for another 10 minutes, drop another passenger, and on and on like that.
“He would spread the phones out and ask the person to pick their phone. It finally got to my turn and I think I was the sixth passenger to be dropped, I can’t remember full well because at that point, I had become so confused.
“He stopped me at a T-junction and gave me my phones, but they were already dead, so I couldn’t contact anyone. When he dropped me, he told me I was at Share (Kwara State).
“I didn’t know where Share was then. It was very dark, around 11pm. The village was quiet. Anywhere I turned to, it was forest all around me. I got to know later that Share was very close to Niger State. It’s a border town between Kwara and Niger state,” she said. http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/06/kidnapped-bus-driver-osun-motor-park-300-level-student-recounts/?utm_source=snap_dp1&utm_medium=twitterLalasticlala |

Are they not dreamers? Homosexuality is the biggest form of hypocrisy since mankind. A lesbian would say she needs not a man but she still moves around with a Love Machine. The fact is, that little opening between her legs needs to be filled every once in a while. A gay man on the other hand would say he needs not a woman but keeps drilling the butt of a fellow man. The fact is, that joystick needs a home every once in a while. God that created man and woman to complement each other is no fool. Neither does he sleep nor slumber. He is a perfect and Supreme Being. I see this practice(homosexuality) as a way of challenging God. |

From dream to reality: Bisi Alimi Foundation will 'promote social acceptance of gays in Nigeria'https://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1539476/bisi-alimi.jpg?w=400Bisi Alimi at the launch of his charity at the Baker and McKenzie law firm in LondonIn the beginning there was just anger. And the anger was exacerbated by the fear and frustration for not being able to conduct a normal life in Nigeria, a country where homosexuals are persecuted and incarcerated for up to 14 years for simply expressing their sexual orientation.
This is how leading LGBTI activist Bisi Alimi described his journey as a gay rights activist since he became the first gay Nigerian to disclose his homosexuality on national TV in 2004.
His advocacy work has come a long way, as he has now inaugurated the Bisi Alimi Foundation in London.
"With the foundation, we aim to accelerate social acceptance of LGBTI people in Nigeria," Alimi told IBTimes UK during the celebration of the charity launch at the Baker and McKenzie law firm.
"And we were able to achieve what we have today because a lot of people in this country bought into the dream that we had, because they want my country to be in the same position as the UK is at the moment."
Anti gay-laws in Nigeria
Nigerians involved in a gay marriage or civil union face imprisonment for up to 14 years under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill signed into law by former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan in 2014. According to the bill, dubbed "Jail the Gays", anyone who registers, operates or takes part in gay organisations or makes a public show of a same-sex relationship will also be punished with up to 10 years in prison.
The implementation of the law prompted a crackdown on homosexuals. Amnesty International said the new legislation disregards human rights and warned it mirrored the laws enforced by the military dictators who ruled Nigeria until 1999.
The Bisi Alimi Foundation will release a report on the impact of homophobia in Nigeria in December 2016. "It will our biggest study on the impact of homophobia in Nigeria, which is damning, it is a disaster," said Alimi.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who defeated Jonathan in 2015's election, has not hinted he would amend or scrap anti-gay laws in the country. The US, which became again a staunch ally of Nigeria after Buhari took office, said it will put pressure on Nigeria to scrap homophobic laws and allow homosexual unions.
"We are hoping that the international community will pay attention to the report, so that the Nigerian government will have no choice but pay attention to it too," said Alimi. "Even it means they will denounce it and reject it, they will react and if they are smart enough, they will call us to engage with them. We want Nigeria to be able to develop programs based on what we found so that we can, together, drive change in the continent."
A project to create the documentary The Boy from Mushin, on Alimi's struggle to promote gay rights in Nigeria, is currently underway. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/dream-reality-bisi-alimi-foundation-will-promote-social-acceptance-gays-nigeria-1574532This is what they believe will happen ..But in a country like Nigeria where religious extremism strives, do you think this can ever happen? cc: lalasticlala |

Niger Delta Avengers Split, Breakaway Faction Promises To Expose Those Behind Attacks On Oil InstallationsA crack has appeared within the ranks of the militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), with the breakaway group announcing itself as the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA). The split was announced in a statement signed by one Cynthia White.
According to the statement, the RNDA decided to split from the Niger Delta Avengers after appeal by former President Goodluck Jonathan and its conviction that the peace initiative of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is genuine. The RNDA added that it also experienced a feeling of guilt over the damage being some to the Niger Delta on our environment at a time the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has shown commitment to the cleanup of the Niger Delta environment. The new group promised to reveal the identities of those behind the resurgence of violence in the oil-producing region.
"We have decided to join the MEND Aaron Team 2 peace initiative through the clearing house of Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group (NDDCG) headed by HRH King Alfred Diette-Spiff.
"We will also cooperate with the government by exposing the identities of our comrades who remain stubborn in their insistence to continue attacks.
"For example, it will shock the nation to know the Jekyll and Hyde personality behind the pseudonym 'Brigadier General Murdoch Aginibo' and our sponsors," the group threatened.
It also called on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to take advantage of the olive branch concession secured by MEND to the agitation for a Biafra Republic, which it branded an anachronism.
"Those advising Mr. Kanu (Nnamdi) to do otherwise do not love him nor appreciate the level of treason this simple act of common sense and humility can extricate him from.
"The Niger Delta will no longer be your proxy in a war to achieve your ambition.
"To our comrades in the NDA, we urge you to stop being defiant and embrace peace and the wise counsel we all received from former President Jonathan," counseled the RNDA. http://saharareporters.com/2016/08/05/niger-delta-avengers-split-breakaway-faction-promises-expose-those-behind-attacks-oilhttps://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/Armed-militants.jpg?itok=mgXEnk6HNiger Delta militants |

Nigeria is in trouble, my brother...
The hypocrisy in these people, if put together is enough to destroy the country. If Buhari meets with one muslim cleric, it is 'Islamization in progress' ...and if with 5000 bishops, its a normal thing to do cos Nigeria needs prayers. SMH
I believe hypocrisy is more of Nigeria's problem than corruption. |
