Politics › I’ve Wike’s Records, Amaechi Dares Gov-elect On Probe by midolian(op): 4:08pm On May 26, 2015 |
River State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has asked the state Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, to go ahead with his threat to probe his administration, saying he has Wike’s records as his (Amaechi) Chief of Staff between 2007 and 2011. Amaechi said this during one of the programmes organised by Committee of Friends to mark the Rivers State governor’s 50th birthday in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. “I heard that Wike says he will probe me. I have not asked him not to probe me. He should remember that he was my Chief of Staff for four years; I have my records on him. He should go ahead,” he said. Amaechi added that he did not use his tenure to probe the past administration in the state, noting that such exercise might be a waste of time and resources. He explained that the people of the state would not applaud him on the basis of how many people he had probed but for his accomplishments in office. “Go and check, the road leading to Wike’s father’s house, I constructed it. But in front of that same house, a relation of mine was killed on election day,” he added. The governor blamed the principals of the state opposition party for instigating violence, especially before the last general elections, wondering why people would not mind killing others because of their personal ambition. “Why will people, because of their personal ambition, not mind killing other people? They gave me all kinds of names but none could accuse me of killing anyone. I have never killed in my life and I will never kill. But because of someone’s personal ambition, human lives mean nothing to some people,” Ameachi said, detailing two alleged gruesome killings in the state. He wondered why the Peoples Democratic Party opposed the setting up of a panel to probe the pre-election and election day killings in the state if the opposition party did not have anything to hide. The governor added, “They went and got a kangoroo judgment stopping the panel from sitting, but we appealed the judgment and the court gave the go ahead for the panel to sit.” http://www.punchng.com/news/ive-wikes-records-amaechi-dares-gov-elect-on-probe/ |

Even the commissioners are kwarrupt... Abeg isn't it better we give the small officers the little bribe they ll take than to go and meet the commisioners that ld ask take bigger bribes? |

Politics › Remove Fuel Subsidy – Saraki Tells Buhari by midolian(op): 11:59am On May 26, 2015 |
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology and former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, has disclosed that the country was losing a total of $2 billion to fake fuel subsidy operators, arguing that the fuel subsidy management in the country was a very big platform for fraud. Saraki bemoaned that the alleged fraud in the subsidy scheme has been allowed to continue unabated, calling on the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari to completely remove the fuel subsidy and restore normalcy to the petroleum sector. The senate presidency aspirant stated this yesterday while speakig with journalists in Abuaj, accusing the government of issuing import licenses to very bogus number of companies totaling 82 and being used by oil marketers and government officials to rip off the national treasury on yearly basis. According to Saraki, it would be better to remove the fuel subsidy and deliver the sector and the citizenry from the grip of racketeers in the industry, who would never allow things to work well because of their personal aggrandizement, adding that subsidy in itself was never a problem to the country but the bad management of the subsidy, which he said had been turned into a huge racket that created the lingering crisis in the oil sector. He said: “No matter what is happening now, if you go back to look at it, the major issue that dwindled us was the subsidy management. We are talking of about minimum of over $32 billion wasted on it over the last five to six years. “That is the difference between where we are now and that time. It has impacted on our exchange rate, it is going to impact on our infrastructure, there is no money for capital budget.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/05/26/remove-fuel-subsidy-saraki-tells-buhari/ |

Ben bruce: "It is not surprising that Buhari’s plan to invest funds in the search for oil in the North is unpopular in the South. Many Southerners erroneously think the North is dependent on the South. In actual fact, the reverse is the case! The most basic human need after oxygen is food. If the North is dependent on the South for foreign exchange, then the South must know that she is dependent on the North for her food security. Nations can survive without oil, but they cannot survive without food and many of our staple foods be it Rice, locally grown wheat, cows on the hoof, tomatoes, peppers onions etc., come from the North. The point I am trying to make is that we need each other and we have to move from a philosophy of competition between North and South to one of cooperation. And many of the stereotypes we hold of Northerners down south are not true at all. Many Southerners see the North and Northerners as a backward Muslim people, adverse to Western education, who would rather not stay in Nigeria except that they cannot survive on their own without the South. So when Southerners read that a community like Chibok, in the core North is overwhelmingly Christian, their stereotype is challenged. When they become aware that the richest black man and African on the planet is from the core Northern state of Kano, their stereotype is challenged. When they realise that a very large proportion of the population of the North is educated, that stereotype becomes questionable. And, yes, a very large proportion of the North is educated! The issue is that because we see education as a Western phenomenon, we fail to look at it holistically and historically, thereby believing that, if you are not Western educated, then you are not educated. But that is far from the truth! Centuries before many in the South learnt to read and write in the English language, our Northern brothers and sisters have been writing in a quasi-indigenous script called the Ajami script. Hausa has been written in Ajami, since the early 15th century. There are centuries-old literary material and letters written in this script and you must have respect for people who developed intellectual learning methods long before Western civilisation came to our shores. Many of us read about Uthman Dan Fodio in history, but unfortunately, contemporary history has limited his role in Nigeria’s evolution to that of a jihadist fighter. In actual fact, Uthman Dan Fodio was a scholar. Even that word ‘Fodio’ is Fufulde for scholar or learned one. His own mother, Hauwa and his grandmother, Ruqayya, were also ‘fodios’ and taught others. This is in the 17th century mind you. The fact is that long before Western education arrived the shores of Southern Nigeria, Northern Nigeria had already experienced centuries of indigenous and Arabic education. So let us begin to shatter our stereotypes of each other and accept each other based on the fact that if God did not desire it to be so, we would not be Nigerians. Having found ourselves as Nigerians, let us make the best of it by using our energies to work together so we can make progress, rather than using if to fight each other in a Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). I am all for a Mutually Assured Restoration, and I urge all Nigerians, both Northern and Southern, to understand our differences (because it is foolishness to think that we can forget them) and learn to coexist in peace and prosperity." This guy is making sense mehn!..From now on, I am your Fan. I forgive you for supporting GEJ's 2nd term bid. You are now my hero, while Oba Akiolu is my role model. Cc: Lalasticlala |
