OREMUSSANCTUS:LMAO! Yes o! Na d same prison she go dey with Allison madueke |
I hope and pray this thing goes to Akume eventually.. He has maintained a clean slate both in his political career and his private life. 'A man of sterling quality,.Akume rather than loot the treasury when he was Governor of Benue State, unleashed an avalanche of development in all the facets of the socio-economic endeavours of the state such that between 1999 and 2007 Benue State became a beehive of activities and a very pleasant home for all tribes and religious groups to thrive among the natives harmoniously'. Plus his contributions right from the day I know him has always bn meaningful. He is experienced and honest. He is the kinda person Nigeria needs as the senate president @ this critical moment. |
The Senate Minority Leader and front-line contender in the race for the Senate Presidency, Senator George Akume, on Friday disagreed with the Pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande and a leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over their declaration that zoning arrangement won’t be used to determine the next Senate President. Akume, who spoke with journalists in his Abuja residence on Friday evening, maintained that the party, before now, had adopted a zoning arrangement which favoured the emergence of the president of the 8th senate, from the North Central, being his geopolitical zone. Akande had, in an interview with The Punch earlier this week, said the party would not employ the use of zoning to determine the next senate president and that anybody was free to fight for the position. He had said, “We want the best man to occupy the position. But the trouble is that some people have been talking about zoning and we are asking questions. Is it zoning according to nationality? “Within the North-Central alone, there are so many nationalities. Is it zoning according to religion? So, we want to be very careful so that we don’t introduce into our system what had not been there before.” “We want to be careful, otherwise, we won’t be able to produce the best. We are trying to select the best man. We don’t want to entertain what brought the PDP down.” Also, Tinubu, in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, said zoning will not be used to compromise the quality of leadership for the National Assembly adding that the party had decided to allow all those interested in the leadership of the federal parliament, to contest. He had said, “Merit will not be compromised. You have to be competent, you have to possess the kind of character, attributes of the leader. You have to be pan-Nigerian and be a very solid character to lead the National Assembly and that is what we are talking about. “We would not use zoning to determine and compromise the credibility, the qualification of an individual. If you take zoning as discriminatory in some instances, you might compromise the quality of an individual. Let everybody aspire.” But Akume insisted that zoning was part and parcel of the politics of Nigeria, arguing that Dr.Goodluck Jonathan became the President of Nigeria as a result of zoning. He said, “Even if zoning is not explicitly stated in the Constitution, there is always this letting to understanding that there must be fairness and balance in the occupation of strategic positions. We should not throw away zoning. “In every zone, there are capable Nigerians that will hold their own in every endeavour. So, basically zoning is acceptable to me because it ensures stability. I have not heard from the party that they have jettisoned zoning. “I remember, the last meeting we had, there was this issue that it has been zoned to North Central. I do not know it has been taken away because the party has not said they are taking it away but all I want to say is that the party made a comment on it. “I am a faithful party man. I was part of the team that negotiated the merger of this party and I am also in the privilege position to talk about the dynamism of APC.” Akume said there was nothing wrong with the North Central, and in particular, Benue State, producing the Senate President all the time even as he argued that the North-West, has also, always produced the president of the country. http://www.punchng.com/news/senate-presidency-akume-disagrees-with-tinubu-akande-on-zoning/ Cc: Lalasticlala |

Interesting times ahead..I can't wait for the debate. That is when the whole world ll know the military isn't sincere. |
The #BringBackOurGirls group has said it is ready for a debate with Nigeria’s defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, on any of the group’s monitoring, assessment and analysis of military’s war against Boko Haram insurgents and the rescue of the 219 girls abducted in April, 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists. In response to Mr. Olukolade’s letter to the group on its unfairness in judging the military, #BBOG’s convener, Obiageli Ezekwesili, said the group was open to any instance or episode of factual inaccuracy from the group’s monitoring and assessment of military statements in the counter-terrorism operations. The group said the general’s allegation that an unnamed person out of animosity was using the platform to antagonize him and some other officers in the military, was unfounded. Ms. Ezekwesili said the group is a citizens-led movement with open membership of all citizens who choose to identify with the rescue of the over 200 girls abducted by insurgents in their hostels from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, at night. She said no particular individual or group within the group can define the direction or position of our Movement on the issues we advocate. “In our public and private communication, we are also guided by our rule of highest respect for adherence to the sanctity of facts or empirical evidence rather than anecdotes,” Ms. Ezekwesili said. “Our communications- statements, briefs, member representations – all pass through one of the strongest internal quality control process to ensure accuracy in our messages.” She added that the group’s purpose remained advocacy for the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls and many other victims of the terrorist attacks in the North Eastern region of Nigeria. On the group’s monitoring and report as faulted by Mr. Olukolade, the convener of the #BringBackOurGirls group said as a citizens’ movement, the group is a demand for accountability from the federal government. She said, “We therefore stand by all our analyses and assessments as conveyed in our statements. This explains why, so far, we have never had to recant, deny, or apologize for any statements we have made in the more than one year of our advocacy. “Everyone who has followed our public statements will confirm that we have never failed to acknowledge and commend our military; especially our ground troops at all times that they have achieved success. We were very public with our commendations of the military at various times for reclaiming our territories occupied by insurgent. We were overjoyed and commended the military for the recent rescue of nearly 1000 of our fellow citizens previously in terrorist captivity.” The group recalled the agreement with the defence chief’s team on May 6, 2014 to maintain a civil-military relationship and democratic accountability by hosting the group to a regular meeting to keep it abreast of military’s efforts in rescuing the girls and the country’s counter terrorism fight. “It is regrettable that subsequently following that agreement, none of such meetings ever happened again and that instead, our attempt to participate in your National Information Centre briefings was frustrated and then prohibited,” she said. The group, however, said it was open to a review the idea of a mutually productive interface between its movement and the military/ security establishments/government so as to collaborate on the counter- insurgency war going forward. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/183442-bringbackourgirls-group-challenges-military-spokesperson-olukolade-to-debate.html |

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, received the interim report of the Transition Committee set up to assist the newly-elected President to transit smoothly to the Presidency but that the report had no input from the out-going Jonathan’s administration. The committee was led by its Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Joda said that the committee received tremendous cooperation from members of the organized private sector (OPS), Nigeria’s international development partners as well as stakeholders from across the country. Alhaji Joda said his committee worked hard through four sub- committees to arrive at the interim report, adding however that the report does not have any input from the out-going administration. He was optimistic that the final report of the committee would include the input of the present administration, provided it is made available. The interim report dealt with issues of good governance namely the executive, legislature and judiciary, finance and economy as well as core sectors like agriculture, oil and gas and solid minerals. The report also looked at Infrastructure and power and national security. Similarly, education, health and social welfare which featured in the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) manifesto were also intensely studied and recommendations made. President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari thanked the committee for doing a thorough job and presenting an interim report within the time allocated to it. Buhari, however, expressed disappointment that ministers and other government leaders were not at hand, so far, to brief the committee but assured that since the bureaucrats who write the reports will be at hand after the departure of the politicians, whatever is there will eventually be known. He requested the Joda-led committee to be in readiness to resume work the moment the outgoing government’s handover notes are received. Present at the event were APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Chief Bisi Akande, APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/transition-cttee-gives-buhari-interim-report-without-jonathans-govt-input/ |
