Oga it is still the same thing. They are all Igbos but they all always reject the Igbo tag. We have not finished developing the recognized igboland and you add another unnecessary landmass to it again. We should be talking about a regional cooperation between the SE governors to dredge the river between Rivers and AkwaIbom in order to build a seaport in Abia ( a recognized Igbo state ) rather than looking for a land where we will have problem between us, Ijaw and Ibibio people.
beautiful. If two options are placed here. Opobo sea port which u knw that it is near the sea. I will rather go for onitsha sea port or Azumini sea port. Even if it is Mile away from the sea. I don't care.

The only thing that is even holding them a little together is that Okirika and much of those riverine people are actually mixed with igbos and ikwere etc.

The main fear in that area is the fear of Igbo. They are Igbophobic.

They fear our success.

U can imagine, the father of modern day ijaw, Jaja of Opobo is an Igbo man from Imo State. grin
lol don't mind them.... U start hearing stories like when our young men go to work.they were left behind with our children and the igbo slaves thought them igbo. Lol. This is ridiculous. I am in one of their forum. When a man from okrika in Rivers state. Posted something there. It goes like this.... Please guyz is okrika in imo state different from okrika in Rivers.. Lol. Someone said that during the biafran war that ijaw men whom biafrans captured formed okrika in imo state. Lol. Okrika sometimes ave identity crisis. If amnesty comes they become ijaw. Sometimes they turn into okrika people. Lol

If Ikwerri is truly landlocked, then they are absolutely of no use to the SE because the only reason why I wanted Ikwerri to be recognized as Igbo was because of their access to the sea but, since they are landlocked, no need for all these long arguments about River state any more, we can manage the river between Rivers and Akwa ibom that leads to Abia state.
thank you boss.

Odogwu, This is the reason, Ikwere are not pushing to construct Deep Seaport.

They rather build another inland port in Onne.

Their Igbo denial did not help matters becos, the Igbo island of Bonny and Opobo with access to the sea still appear foreign to them.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw are busy trying to subvert Opobo and Bonny and even making it compulsory that people in Bonny stop speaking Igbo and be taught Ibani in School.

I tell u nwanne, all these igbo deniers are a huge liability and that is wat pazienza is saying when he said we cannot allow it to continue with destructive and devastating effect to Igbo interest.
rivers is a ticking time bomb. Xpecially that ph. because some part of okrika or kalabari or so is part of portharcourt city. And ijaw believes that there is their homeland. That is when u start hearing ikwerre should join their kin in se lol...

Wrong! Ikwere need igbo but Igbo dont need Ikwere.

Dont u see Amaechi as transport minister doing everything in his power to kill Enugu international airport.

Last year, he closed the airport and advice utility of Port Harcourt that was still under construction.

Wat Ikwere fail to understand is that Igbo are very good record keepers and we dont forget anything.

As far as Port Harcourt is concenered, it has nothing to offer us.

Is Opobo and Bonny also Ikwere becos, the last time I checked, Ikwere like the rest of Main land igbo are land locked.

The only access point to the sea is Opobo and Bonny and they are actually Igbo.

Instead of using port harcourt we use Abia River to access the sea.
thank you hammer6F. Ibu dike. Lol u jst hit the nail on the head. It seems our mind is going to the same place. I was browsing the internet to bring bring pictures that shows the ikwerre is locked. Way locked than the se...all the riverine areas are occupied by ijaw. Becos they run rivers state doesn't mean the port is in their land. The big rivers and access to the sea are through ijaw land.

You still don't get it, do you?

In the event that access to the sea coast becomes an issue, this is going to be handled as purely a business transaction, in which both sides benefits. Igbos do not have to beg Ikwerres or any other group for this.
In such business, you state your terms, and both sides benefit financially from it. If it doesn't work out with them, there are other options such as Akwa Ibom. It is business, not bullshit based on ethnic sentiments.

Meanwhile, if a seaport of international standard gets operational in Rivers, who do you think would drive the bulk of the business that will happen there? Igbos, of course.
Once you realize they need us more than we need them, all you need to do is set your house in order, and watch them come running. Enough with these advocacy for people who don't have any need of you at the moment.

All this impotent wailing you guys are making here is a waste of time.
Bring something to the table, and all these renegade groups will fall over themselves to court your attention.

@ horsepower101 I have been enjoying your objective contributions to this thread.
However, you are letting your emotions over this Igbo or non Igbo issue cloud your thoughts.
That suggestion about letting everyone state publicly their ethnic affiliation is a waste of time. You said that the SE has been sweeping the issue under the rug, hoping it would go away.

Well, the reason why the issue seem to linger is because there has been no cogent economic or political reason that would make such groups publicly identify themselves as Igbos. What would they gain at this time from it?
You're putting the cart before the horse. Make yourself a beautiful bride and several suitors would give an arm and a leg to get married to you....and that's what the SE needs to become: a beautiful bride.
That's what this thread is meant to discuss: how the SE can become a regional power house. After that, everything else will fall into place.

Your emotions over this issue, no matter how visceral it is, will not make even that close neighbor of yours want to call himself a proud Igbo.

pazienza:
What does she mean by saying that Anioma can never be part of the Eastern region? Isn't it our goal to create and re unite Anioma with the rest of SE? So, how can she come and be saying that Anioma can "never" be part of the Eastern region?

Also, how exactly can Anioma be an independent nation, if she is already part of the Igbo nation? Omu seem to be saying that Anioma is independent of the Igbo, and she further entrenched this view by saying that Anioma cannot be an "appendage" to anyone. I believe the anyone she is referring to here are Ndiigbo. Omu seem to believe that Uniting Anioma with SE would mean making her an appendage to SE. She is not alone in this narrow thought process, it's a view held by a significant portion of Anioma people. The goal seem to be to create an independent Anioma ethnic nationality, while working closely with Ndiigbo, and if possible, use our help, without our knowledge to achieve that.

I had argued this out with the Omu and her people on her facebook wall and they blocked me, after raining insults on me. They never denied my accusations of the Omu being chameleonic and using Ndiigbo to achieve her independent Anioma agenda.

This was after Omu was invited to Alaigbo Development project, and she started her speech there by reminding Ndiigbo that "Anioma is not an appendage of anyone (Ndiigbo) ".
Someone picked this up as a cryptic message, and refered us to her earlier article which I had posted, where she was campaigning for an independent Anioma nationality, and had used the same "appendage" statement. I was marveled and worried as well, when the person provided a link to her facebook wall, bearing the news article I had quoted.

That's the nature of these people once in Nigeria. Very discouraging.

What is your point? Why are you putting all south-south Igbos in one basket? What is your end goal because at this point, I don't know hat exactly you are fighting?

Yes there are Igbo clans that denied their Igboness in the south-south but there are also other Igbos clans (Both in Rivers and Delta state) that NEVER EVER denied their Igbo ancestry.

STOP PUTTING EVERYONE IN ONE BASKET. STOP GENERALIZING.

Don't ever use diaspora to talk about those Igbo deniers. They always join Igbo diasporan groups and even ferocious to become presidents esp the Ikwerre ones.
They are good with tribal politics, knowing when being Igbo will favor them and where they lose , so they act accordingly.
They are always pro Igbo at every place outside Rivers/ Delta state/Igboland . Who doesn't know Igbo groups are the strongest, both nationally and Internationally and solve members problems in some cases ?
There is so much to gain from joining Igbo groups if you see yourself outside Igboland.
The same people that join Igbo groups outside Igboland will come back and tell you they aren't Igbos. We know them well.

Not even the civil war is an excuse for such stuffs anymore. Do you know When the war ended?
These people are waiting for Igbo presidency or political success before they begin to align once again.
And sb was telling me that if they want to be Igbos tomorrow, won't I take them ?
The whole idea of Somebody "becoming an Igbo tomorrow" alone is baffling. Identity is now pants that they change at will...
don't mind them. They will denial been igbo but at any slightest opportunity they ave to occupy seats meant for the supposed igbo people. They will pounce on it sharply..don't be surprised if an ikwerre men is given a vp ticket tomorrow. U will be surprised how the igbo denial will vanish into thin air. I have one of them as friends. A female. She was born and raised in Onitsha, the mum is from Ngor Okpala Imo state, even with a surname like "Nwaegbunam", she still insists she is Etche and not Igbo. She probably expects us to pamper and pet her to be Igbo, but we simply told her she isn't Igbo and that she and her people are impostors. Now she goes about talking about how Igbos are unwelcoming. Inukwanum!

The other one, a guy is from Ogume( Ndokwa Anioma) , with a typical Igbo name "Igwe". Yet insists he is "Delta" and not Igbo , always making disparaging remarks about Igbos. He went to main market Onitsha to buy things, and was swindled by the traders who capitalized on his naivety to sell inferior things to him at exorbitant prices, then he comes back cursing "Ibos", telling us how "Ibos" are greedy. How do you ever accept someone like this as a fellow Igbo tomorrow? Everyone in my hostel then in school understood Ogume and Ndokwa people are not Igbos, because of the guys behavior.
If tomorrow any of us meet someone from Ogume, do you think we would extend hands of Igbo brotherhood to them? Ofcourse answer is No. The fear of being rejected would make us treat them as non Igbo until proven otherwise. And then, they run around talking about why and how we are not accepting their hands of brotherhood.
It's a vicious cycle started by them. See how it goes.

1.An Igboid denies his Igbo identity and humiliates an innocent Igbo brother in the process.

2 The innocent Igbo brother gets hurt, recovers and grows a defensive mechanism to prevent such rejection in the future. Because let's face it, no one likes rejection. Hence, the Igbo man is now exposed to Igboid resentment

3. The next time the exposed Igbo meets an innocent Igboid person, he shows no iota of brotherly love for him, instead he shows resentment, and even when the Igboid tries to reach out to him, the Igbo would think he is only being fake, and that it is a matter of time, before he denies him again.

4. The rejected Igboid Now grows resentment and loathe towards the Igbo. He is now exposed to Igbo
resentment and he goes on to infect another innocent Igbo man with this Igbo resentment.
And the cycle continues.

My own is that I will never pamper, woo or beg anyone to be Igbo.
If you say you are not Igbo, I will keep reminding you that you are not Igbo and that you are an impostor for bearing Igbo names, any time I get the chance .

As long as Igboids still habour Igbo resenting people in their midst, more and more innocent Igbos would be exposed to such Igbo resentment, and in return, would grow a strong resentment for innocent Igboids they meet in the future.

Until Igboids stop being Igbo resenting, the vicious cycle to me, will never end, no matter how some try to wish it away.
don't mind them. It was in the time past that if i get rejected by them. I will become sad but right now I don't care. If u hate me i hate u too. How can you compare Ndoki/Asa with Ikwerre people?

Ndoki/Asa has at no point denied their Igbo origin. Be they in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia.

Hmm, Ikwerre is divided like 10-90 with only 10% being vocally proud Igbo, the other 90% being those who are vocally anti Igbo, those who are undecided, those who only claim Igbo when it's expedient to do so while denying Igbo when necessary, and those who just don't care about ethnic identity.

Ogba is 100% anti Igbo. Since all my existence in the world, I'm yet to see a proud Igbo man from Ogba, don't tell me about Ogbuehi Francis Ellah, he's late, we are talking of the living. Ogba is so anti Igbo that they enacted a law that no land in Ogbaland should be sold to Ndiigbo, but the same could be sold to even a man from Niger republic.

Ndoni. I don't much about Ndoni, they are rather laid back. Not Anti Igbo, not actively pro Igbo either. But I got the feeling that Ndoni would easily identify with Ndiigbo when push comes to shove.

Ekpeye.
These ones are in the same boat as Ogba, their half brothers. They are violently anti Igbo, and would even rather become Ijaw than Igbo. Some time ago, a group of Ekpeye youths joined IYC.

Etche.
These ones are 50-50 in their Igbo denial and acceptance. The Ikwerre mainstream anti Igbo rhetorics had rubbed off on Etche people, negatively. Many Etche persons today are not pro Igbo.

That's the situation report in Rivers state.

Obviously building central business districts in our already built up cities will no longer be feasible.

The concept of building BUSINESS PARKS used in many American cities should be adopted in Nigeria.
Ex-Gov. Peter Obi half-heartedly started this important concept in Onitsha, but ended up not building truly imposing buildings in the areas and everything ended up being shoddy. They should learn to engage billionaire entrepreneurs to adopt building a structure in there NOT government alone. Business parks areas around the city designated for building commercial office buildings.

The government and business entrepreneurs are encouraged to build 3 storey office like buildings in the area within 2 -3 years.
Flowers and trees are planted in the area to make them truly modern and conducive for businesses to rent office rooms in the area.

Something like how Ebonyi state built a new areas for it's secretarial complex. The only difference here is that effort is made to make the buildings spectacular and stand out.

If 5 or 6 imposing buildings of just 3 storey height are built in each business park, it will change the landscape of any city where they are located.
