Politics › Labour Party, NCP, Two Others Form Alliance For 2015 Elections by mike404(op): 10:21pm On Dec 14, 2013 |
Four Nigerian political parties have declared that they are coming together to form a working political alliance as the country prepares for the 2015 general elections.
Announcing their alliance at the emergency national executive meeting of the National Conscience Party, the National Chairman of the party, Yunusa Tanko, said that the Advance Congress of Democrats, the Social Democratic Party and the Labour Party are joining forces to give Nigerians an alternative ahead of the elections.
“We are pained that up till now, the Nigerian people are yet to count their blessings without making unpleasant reference to how they are being governed. That is why we resolved as a political party, not to be part of any merger but in a working alliance with other like-minded political parties.”
The group also asked President Goodluck Jonathan to address some of the issues raised in the letter written by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
“It is instructive to note that President Goodluck Jonathan should address the nation as a matter of urgency and answer most of the damning allegations which was leveled by the former president, which has placed this country in an unsecured situation.”
This is yet another alliance that has emerged in the country outside the All Progressives Congress, APC which was announced in February 2013, and wrestling power from Nigeria’s ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has been the major motive behind these alliances as declared by the parties involved.
The National Chairman of the Advance Congress of Democrats, Yusuf Buba, while justifying this recent alliance, referred to the parties on ground, as “a mix-up of strange bed fellows with different ideas and ideologies” which they claim is an opposite of their alliance that is built on the similarities in their ideas and ideologies.
The parties also said that details of their alliance would be made available to the public in 2014, as the 3rd alternative for the people, ahead of the 2015 elections.

Members of the PDP Youths Alliance in Kogi have applauded the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The group acknowledged the efforts of government in the area of job creation, through which jobs had been created for some of them.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting on Sunday in Lokoja, the goup said that youths across the six geo-political zones constituted the major beneficiaries of government programmes.
The Coordinator of the group, Mr Charles Enefola, cited the reforms in agriculture, transportation, small and medium scale enterprises and power sub-sectors of the economy as potential areas of job creation.
Enefola appealed to the president to go a step further by introducing social security and empowerment schemes to alleviate the suffering of unemployed youths, and the aged in the society.
He said that this would go a long way to reducing crime and poverty level among Nigerians, especially those in the rural areas.
Enefola reiterated the group’s implicit confidence in the ability of Jonathan administration to lead the country to the promised land and pledged its support to his administration.
The group also commended Gov. Idris Wada for providing the people with purposeful leadership and for creating jobs for over 2,000 of its members through the youth empowerment programme.
The group called for the completion of the skill acquisition development centre currently under construction at the campus of Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja.
It said that the centre, when completed, would help to reduce the unemployment level among the people.
The group called on the state government to focus more attention on the development of tourism, sports, agriculture and solid mineral deposits to create wealth and jobs for the citizens.
They expressed their support for the national leadership of the party led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the national executive council of the alliance under Dr Charles Omini. (NAN) http://www.kogireports.com/kogi-pdp-youths-laud-jonathans-transformation-agenda |

Okorosha should by now understand that he does not presently have the support of SE people neither does he enjoy the support of his so called APC..
Its only a shortsighted person as Okorosha that could not see through the deceit and how APC is shortchanging him.. |

No fewer than 25 people suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect were killed, Thursday, in a clash with troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army at Ngauramari villages of Bama Local Government Area of Borno state.
Ngauramari is a small farming community along the Maiduguri- Bama – Firgi-Gwoza federal highway which had witnessed series of attacks and killing of over 20 motorists and passengers this week by suspected terrorists.
Our Correspondent gathered that the incident took place at about 8am on Thursday when some suspected Boko Haram members, crossing the road from their camps in the Sambisa Forest exchanged gunfire with troops, with the killing of three terrorists. A commercial driver , Ali Wando who came from Gwoza into Maiduguri told our correspondent, “I saw three corpses by the roadside at Ngauramari which were dismembered by the rocket launcher fired at them by the military when they came on their tricycle.”
“Several other bodies were lying further in the bush but I did not go to count them because I was afraid, as I believed some of the insurgents might hiding further in the bush”.
Another commercial driver who did not want his name mentioned for security reason said, ” soon after the military killed the terrorists in Ngauramari, the Nigerian Airforce fighter jet located some of the suspected terrorists around the Bama-Firgi-Gwoza river bank, attempting to cross the river where the fighter jet attacked and killed them.”

Politics › World Leaders Praise Nigeria On $1tr Global Trade Deal by mike404(op): 9:35pm On Dec 10, 2013 |
World leaders have lauded Nigeria’s initiative that facilitated the first-ever global trade reform agreement, which has the potential to add $1 trillion to the global economy.
The agreement followed five-days of negotiations in Bali, Indonesia.
The outcome is an offshoot of the work done at the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO’s) Eighth Ministerial Conference in Geneva, where it was agreed that the WTO should end the fruitless years of negotiations and identify key elements of the Doha Round, where agreements could be reached with a view to delivering a package in those areas.
The world’s trade ministers said the “helpful” leadership of the Nigerian Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga (who chaired the MC8), helped in the early resolution of the contending issues at the just concluded Ninth Ministerial Conference (MC9).
The Swiss delegation commended Nigeria’s leadership of the MC8, saying it helped in no small way to reach the MC9 consensus.
The delegation, which has invited Aganga to Davos in January, said members want to continue engagement with Aganga in view of the quality of leadership he displayed.
It said Aganga’s experience would help address many issues.
The 159 member countries of the WTO came to Bali for the MC9, knowing that it was either a deal was struck regarding the three packages on the table or the WTO will lose its integrity.
“For the first time in our history, the WTO has truly delivered. This time, the entire membership came together. We have put the ‘world’ back in the World Trade Organisation,” WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo told exhausted ministers after the long but fruitful talks.
There were three main items in the package – trade facilitation (to streamline customs procedures and minimise unnecessary border delays, delivering jobs and opportunities in times of unemployment and slow growth); agriculture and development issues, which apply mainly to Least Developed Countries (LDC
On the whole, agreements were reached at the end, including the reaffirmation of the non-discrimination principle of Article V of GATT 1994; public stockholding for food security purposes; duty-free and quota-free market access for least developed countries, among others.
