President Goodluck Jonathan will leave Abuja tonight for Germany en-route to Paris, France where he is scheduled to participate in the Summit on Peace and Security in Africa.

About fifty heads of state and government are expected to participate in the Elysee Palace Summit which will be hosted by President Francois Hollande of France.

The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon, heads of European institutions and leaders of Africa’s sub-regional and continental organizations such as the African Union and ECOWAS will also participate in the summit which has economic partnerships, sustainable development and climate change on its agenda as well.

President Jonathan will be accompanied by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, relevant ministers and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.).

He will stop-over in Germany for a private visit on his way to Paris and return to Abuja at the conclusion of the summit on Saturday.

The Imo chapter of the People’s
Democratic Party, PDP held a rally to
seek support for President Goodluck
Jonathan, ahead of the 2015 presidential
election.
Even though the president is yet to make
any public pronouncement on his alleged
ambition for the 2015 presidency, the
rally which held in Owerri, Imo State
capital, during the weekend saw the PDP
leaders maintaining that the party is
ready for the task ahead.
Addressing hundreds of PDP faithfuls at
the Egbu Central School in Owerri North
Local Government Area of Imo state, the
Chairman of the Contact and Mobilisation
Committee of the PDP in Imo State, Mr
Jerry Chukwueke, said that the PDP led
Federal Government under the Goodluck
Jonathan administration has proven to
Nigerians that theirs remains the party to
beat in the 2015 elections, as the
transformation agenda of the President
has delivered the dividends of democracy
to the people of the nation.
He added that the People’s Democratic
Party in Imo state, and the entire Imo
citizens are solidly behind the President if
he considers contesting for presidency in
2015.
He also added that as part of their
campaign, they are poised to ensure that
power in Imo State returns to the
People’s Democratic Party, come 2015.
The Chairman of the People’s Democratic
Party, PDP, in Owerri North LGA, Mr
Obinna Lumanze, also said that the effort
of the Contact and Mobilisation
Committee will go a long way to boost
the popularity of PDP at the state and
the National levels. He called on Imo
citizens to support the PDP so they can
wrestle power from the opposition in
2015 in the state.
The highpoint of the occasion was the
defection of some members of opposition
parties in the state from APGA, APC,
Labour Party and UPP to the People’s
Democratic Party.

Awka – Chief Willie Obiano, the Anambra Governor-
elect, on Monday received Certificate of Return from the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in
Awka.
Obiano, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance
(APGA), won the Nov. 16 and Nov. 30 supplementary
polls with a total vote of 180,178.
He defeated Mr Tony Nwonye of the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) and Sen. Chris Ngige of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 97,700 and
95,963 to emerge second and third places respectively.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra,
Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukogwu, thanked the people of
Anambra for their peaceful conduct during the polls and
prayed for God’s continued blessing for the state.
A National Commissioner in INEC in-charge of Abia,
Anambra and Benue, Mr Lawrence Nwuruku, while
issuing the certificate, said Anambra was a lucky state
as it had one of the best elections in recent times.
“On behalf of the INEC chairman, I hand over this
certificate of return to the governor-elect of Anambra,
Chief Willie Obiano,” he said.
The governor-elect, who was accompanied by his wife,
Mrs Eberechukwu Obiano; deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, said
it was a call to duty and promised not to betray the
trust reposed in him.
He called on the people and the parties who contested
with him in the election to cooperate in the task of
building the state.
Obiano also thanked President Goodluck Jonathan and
security agencies who assisted in ensuring a free and
fair poll.
“I call on those who contested with me to join us as we
work towards a greater Anambra; the days of fighting
are over,” he said.
Chief Victor Umeh, National Chairman of APGA,
commended INEC for a job well done and urged it not to
be deterred by criticisms.
Other dignitaries at the programme included Gov. Peter
Obi of Anambra and Igwe Christopher Idigo of Aguleri
Kingdom, where Obiano hailed from.
After receiving the certificate, Obiano, Umeh and other
party stalwarts moved to Nnewi, the home town of late
Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, where the victory was
dedicated to his memory at his cenotaph.
Obiano pledged to continue to “let the light which the
party leader ignited to shine”.
