Politics › NLC, TUC Strike In Edo Goes Violent As Apc thugs Attack Labour Leaders by mike404(op): 10:24pm On Dec 08, 2013 |
[img][/img]The strike embarked upon by the Edo State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) went violent yesterday as the state Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Emmanuel Ademokun, was beaten to stupor by thugs allegedly sponsored the state government.
The state chapter of NLC and TUC on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid allowances by the state government. It was gathered that worker who were trying to enforce the strike at the Palm House Secretariat Complex located along Sapele Road, Benin City were ambushed by thugs and beaten up.
Following the attack, some of the victims including Ademokun sustained head injuries inflicted on them by the thugs.
Speaking on the incident, Ademokun, who expressed surprise over the actions of the thugs whom he said got orders to attack them from a top government official, told journalists that the use of thugs by government or its agents will not deter labour from fighting for what belongs to them.
"We were out this morning after holding meeting with our workers on the progress we have made so far on the issue of Salary Relativity and we went to Palm House to monitor compliance when Oloye's boy's swam on us like bees, beating my members, shooting sporadically into the air even as some persons in police uniforms shot tear gas at us.
"As I speak with you, some of my members who were seriously injured were taking treatment at some major pharmaceuticals, you can see my swollen head. We watched helplessly as Loye (PS, Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities) gave directives to the boys to continue to disrupt us even when I told them that we came for peace and not to fight," he said.
Reacting to the NLC chairman’s allegation, Permanent Secretary State Ministry, Major Lawrence Loye (rtd), who said he holding a meeting with some government officials at the time the labour leaders arrived, explained that the they (labour leaders) were throwing stones on offices at the complex in a bid to force workers, an action he said was against labour law.
He said following their violent approach, members of the State Task Force on Environment who were at the scene intervened to make peace, but the labour leaders attacked them, forcing the task force members to retaliate.

PARIS – French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Sunday that nearly 400 people were killed in the last three days in violence in the Central African Republic capital Bangui, but that calm had returned.
“We have counted 394 dead in the last three days. Calm has returned to Bangui even if there are still some abuses here and there,” Fabius told France 3 television.
French troops poured into the impoverished landlocked country on Saturday after President Francois Hollande announced he was boosting a UN-mandated French force to 1,600 soldiers.
“There are a certain number of operations under way throughout the country, and operations to disarm Seleka will begin,” Fabius said, referring to the mostly Muslim rebel fighters who were behind a coup in March.
“Our role is loud and clear, and it is first of all a security role. The order has been given to disarm and confine to quarters, we are doing this with the Africans” from the 2,500-strong MISCA force, Fabius said.
“The problem is that some (Seleka fighters) are abandoning their fatigues to dress as civilians, making it difficult.”(AFP)

obayaya: Op, for starters, your write up is poorly constructed and can't possibly convince anybody..
to the topic,
Ngige's handlers messed up big time during his campaign and the run up to the elections. but party affiliation is not the major reason why Ngige lost the elections..
let's be honest, Ngige did all he did as governor because of the pressure the fall out with the Uba Family heaped on him.. All he did was to gain legitimacy and support of the masses.
people don't actually Buy into what you do and how you do it.. they Buy into why you do things you do?
Now the question is why is Ngige in politics? why did he become governor in 2003? why did he enter into that unholy Marriage with the ubas? be honest With. yourself while answering this questions you'll discover that the only feasible answer is greed and personal gain..
He proved that again at the Senate by just sitting there doing nothing.. why did he go to the Senate? not because of the masses.. but because he wants to remain politically relevant so as to relaunch a bid to occupy zik house.
if anambra gubernatorial elections calendar wasn't different from senatorial, will Ngige be at the Senate?
And for you to say Obi didn't do anything in anambra is a display of your poor analytical skills. Is there any completed government project in that your village? if yes, was it there before Obi came onboard?
I've always supported Obi since he won his mandate from the court because his actions has always showed a clear why? why he wants to govern anambra.. and his how is impressive-- ANIDS and what he's doing is evident.
I wish I can talk about okorocha but I don't have much details to make an informed comment on him.. but going by what I'm hearing.. he it doesn't sound good E. O. D THREAD CLOSED |

He knows govt can't be trusted and yet still asked ASUU to go back without calling or telling govt to be responsive for once in his speech. In our private lives, its that the way we trust well known insincere persons? This strike by ASUU though very painful is highly justified. Until they are convinced that Jonathan indeed meant well, I expect strike to continue.

Politics › Yes, Aregbesola Is A Danger To Democracy-Osun labour party by mike404(op): 11:28pm On Dec 06, 2013 |
Comrade Bankole Afilaka, the chairman, of the caretaker committee of Labour Party in Osun State spoke on the pace and pattern of politics in Osun State. Excerpts
What are the plans of the Labour Party for the 2014 Governorship election in Osun State? I think at this point, the Labour Party is working assiduously towards getting the best candidate. We have had some people coming to us and expressing their interest and some have not come to us but have expressed their interests on the newspapers.
For us, our assignment is on behalf of the Osun people to get the best candidate that would be the actual alternative and real change in Osun. Change in Osun is in many dimensions, we want unencumbered leadership, and we want the kind of leadership where the people can relate directly, we want the kind of leadership that would be honest in delivery of public policy. We condemn out rightly the idea in which government of the day use to oil propaganda machinery. For instance, if you go around, you look at the entire state and it’s almost branded with Aregbesola’s face, we are still surprised that the INEC have not called him to order and we have written another petition and we are hoping that INEC will look into it as a matter of urgency. We want the best candidate for Labour party on behalf of the people that will deliver the dividends of democracy to the masses of Osun state, not somebody that will mortgage the state and mortgage it for the generation to come and then use some kind project to daze us through a propaganda-drive that is unprecedented in the history of politics in Nigeria. For us in Labour party, what we want to do in 2014 is to unseat Aregbesola and I can tell you as a matter of fact, Aregbesola is gone already; it is just a matter of time.
Does your party have what it takes to dislodge him? I can tell you as a matter of fact that Labour party is the only party that is going to remove Aregbesola and he (Aregbesola) knows this. Aregbesola thinks he is giving us development but what he has given us is something to help push his own image. As you can see, his face is everywhere and I would not be too surprised if the face is found in your bedroom because that is what he is all about but we want government not propaganda, I think this is a fundamental difference between our party.
To what extent have you been able to resolve the internal crisis that rocked your party? That has been put to bed. The reality of the matter is that the court struck out the Aregbesola instigated court case.
We are receiving a large influx of people across the state but more importantly, we believe strongly that the government of Osun State is a danger to democracy. Why do we say that? He is beginning to give the state a bad name by exporting large elements of our state to go and cause electoral anarchy during Anambra gubernatorial election. We warned of this during Ondo state election that he was sending thugs to Ondo state. Now he has been caught in the act; we know that those boys were working for a known Aregbesola’s apologist in Osun State.
He was the one chairing a group of about 183 that was supposedly registered in Lagos with guns and fake ballot papers (for the Anambra election). This is a disgrace to our state and its time we condemn it. Aregbesola is a danger to democracy; the government needs to put him on security watch with immediate effect. Somebody that is exporting thugs elsewhere to go and fight an election that doesn’t concern him, what do you think is going to do when Osun comes to 2014?
