denisfidha: Hadn't realized that. They were like twenty of that type in that exercise alone. How do these guys import stuff without anyone knowing. Then suddenly like boom! they show it off to the public Defence companies always have systems, ready to be sold. So buying off-the-shelf hardware is quick and "silent". They seem to perform really well in combat, the Tanzanians are using them in the DRC. |

Thiza: A Army Chief, Lieutenant General Vusi Masondo, yesterday officially took the Starstreak ground-based air defence missile system into the landward forces inventory.
The handover took place at 10 Anti-Aircraft Regiment headquarters at Diskobolos, Kimberley as is part of the Army’s drive to rejuvenate its hardware, alluded to by Masondo last month when he met the media.
The system, according to an Army statement, comes in two configurations: a multiple launcher unit and a shoulder-launched unit. This is a very short range air defence (VSHORAD) system that will be utilised by the Air Defence Artillery Formation as a fire unit to defend critical installations.
The system came to South Africa early in 2004. It then underwent extensive modification and enhancement at Denel Land Systems to adapt it to African conditions and the specification requirements of the Air Defence Artillery Formation to the point where it is now ready to be taken into service with a six kilometre range.
The testing phase saw both the multiple launcher and shoulder-launched unit trialled at AFB Zwartkop and Denel’s Overberg Test Range as well as the Air Defence Artillery range at Riemvasmaak in Northern Cape Now fully operational!!!!! Expect the same with the Gripen. New sensors, avionics and new weapons, might be integrated to bring up to operational standard. GBADS!!!!!!!!!!! |

ActivateKruger: The fact that they couldn't defeat Savimbi on their own says a lot. I mean Savimbi had no allies, very little cash to fund his operations but was able to resist the Angolan military until external forces were brought in to kill him. So there's no way under the sun Angola (and Nigeria) could stand against the SANDF. 10/10!!!!! |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA: 7:13am On Oct 16, 2014 |
agaugust: Today 2014, South Africa CANNOT defeat Angola in war, they will grind SANDF to powder
. The SANDF can reach Luanda within weeks. They have equipment but maintenance is a problem for them. |

NaijaPikinGidi: Fantasy! Excuses!! You got beat up and ran away! NA is still standing and doing the hard job! Huge difference between your photo-force and our Armed Force. No one ran away. The Chief of the SANDF, said it well on that monday that: All SANDF units are still on the ground, and those slightly wounded were treated on ground and those who needed serious medical attention were flown back to SA. More troops and equipment were at the same time being deployed around CAR. The SANDF didn't run nor retreat out of CAR,they simply followed their political masters' commands. If an order came to crash Seleka. The rebels were badly hurt from the Friday and Saturday fighting, destroying them was an easy task. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA: 9:47pm On Oct 15, 2014 |
NaijaPikinGidi: And CAR couldn't be protected? Keep running and mouthing-off rubbish. Protect yourselves first. Politics before application of force. The SANDF deployed Gripens,Rooivalks,a battalion and more to strike and re-install civilian rule in CAR. But the AU and ECCAS couldn't agree on a follow up force and for the SANDF to kill the mauled Seleka. Protectors Of AFRICA!!!!!!!!!!!! |

NaijaPikinGidi: Fool. Dlamini-Zuma is the messenger! A messenger of her type cannot assume to be boss by anyone's imagination. But the Boss of the AU troops is for sure the master-architrect, planner, controller and operational BOSS. And Nigeria holds that position. Live with that!! No. He salutes and takes orders from a Saffer. He holds no Command and control over AU forces. |

NaijaPikinGidi: Orders/approval come from African leaders collectively ... Dlamini-Zuma basically documents and communicates the resolutions and orders! Get your head checked. Yes,that's the boss. Similar to how,it is politicians who decide to go or declare war. Military action is part of the equipment found in a bigger political solution tool kit. So an order will only come from Zuma. |
