ComputersRe: Calling Systems Administrators - Our Own Thread? by mikkyphp(m): 9:13am On Jan 26, 2009
Well Well Well,
NITEL is on STRIKE!!!! and as a sys admin for an ISP, i need to augment and on our limited bandwidth on suburban and Gilat and possibly upgrade where necessary. We have a large chunk of bandwidth from Nitel and yes, we stick to nitel because their link is still relatively faster than suburban @ the same bandwidth per time. We're currently @ their mercy and am calling on the powers that be to pay their 7months salary.

its a whole lot of work here, what a way to start a monday morning, huh

Hi all, I'm a sys admin wiff a leading ISP in lagos.
@FBS, yeah dat reminds me of the last muslim holiday. on the second day the break, i received an SOS call from the office, apparently we had a surge in d server room and the bandwidth manager refused to boot ?(FreeBSD OS). initially i was vexed and i grumbled cos i already had plans of eating sallah RAM in 2places. i eventuallly went to the office, and with everybody in high expectation, i rose to the occassion, wrote a line of code (6 xters) and voila! the server was up and running. I smiled and rekindled my plans for the rest of the day. grin

I like the job cos it's very challenging, and challenges bring out the best in me
Music/RadioRe: After Olisa, Dan Foster Leaves 96.9 Cool Fm by mikkyphp(m): 3:42pm On Sep 26, 2008
Hi everyone. let me just let y'all into some privileged information;
first, Olisa did not resign, he was sacked!!! his letter was prepared on instruction by the MD after he failed to attend a crucial meeting!
secondly, Keith lane was innigeria even b4 dan foster came. he handled the goodmorning nigeria show b4 mark silviere started anchoring the program. He was sacked then because he too the mic off of Olisa while he was on the air! then keith was responsible for all the presenters in cool fm.
thirdly, Keith lane has been sacked again!! little wonder it wasnt his voice on the air this morning, it was manny that was on. Reasons for his second sack are still sketchy but sources have it that it was due to listeners frequent complaint. He's known to have a short temper and also very saucy for a guy.
fourthly, Olisa will still anchor the MTN Yellow top ten, but mind u, the program is recorded. this is because his voice has become a brand for the program and MTN isnt ready to loose fans of the program because of some shaddy stuff happening at cool fm.
Fifthly, part of the reason Dan Foster left is because he didnt have anough talk time on his Good morning Nigeria Program. He constantly complained that the Commercials were too much and that listeners wanted to hear him talk more and crack jokes! also the pay package wasnt so good. Inspiration FM will pay him 1.5m every month(unconfirmed)!
sixthly, Freeze was offered 400k monthly, a car and a house by inspiration fm but he turned it down.
, gosh am tired of typing, i'll keep u guys posted,

Music/RadioRe: After Olisa, Dan Foster Leaves 96.9 Cool Fm by mikkyphp(m): 8:08pm On Sep 22, 2008
is this the same keith lane i mourned when he left nigeria many years back? rumours had it then that he was sacked because of olisa adibua! who can remember, keith lane was d one dat invented "Radio Graffiti" or started it in nigeria. at the time, he was hot. when he left, mark silvia came. he was good too, then Dan foster was doing road show(olisa took over the show when dan moved to the morning slot).
i've not taken my time to listen tothis keith though. if he is then i'll say WELCOME BACK Keith!!

RomanceRe: Men: Would You Tell Your Lady How Much You Earn Or Are Worth? by mikkyphp(m): 2:12pm On Sep 08, 2008
@topic, we all stilll fail to realize sth- there's a differeence between how much u earn and how much you're worth! Well, i can for sure tell my spouse how much i earn, but not how much my net -worth is. My net-worth is largely determined by the extras i do on the side, which usually accounts for 70%. So i'll be well pleased to let her know how much my 30% is (gross salary) but disclose another 30% of my extras(ie 30% of 70% of my net worth) cos she's sure to know i do something on d side.
note: always sleep with one eyes open, you never can say for sure what goes on in those creative mind of theirs. When absolutely necessary, and after she's thru' doing your calculations for you, spring up occassional surprises with some money to spoil her a little, but never disclose its sources, lol

you ought to have received an sms from IAES nigeria stating the venue and time for the exam. there'll be 3 sessions, 8am, 12 noon and 3:30pm. for the record, in abuja, the venue is the yar adua centre abuja.

ps. what are we expected to read on??, GMAT, or IT related. i really dont know. can they set the same assessment papers for ssce, undergraduates and graduates?

ma bad
remember i said the customer care consultant i met that day wasn;t sure of the interest rate(17-19%), when she said 17 or 19%, i asked annually? she said no monthly! now you've don the math, i can see its outrightly impracticable for it to be charged monthly.
Bank operatives should be armed with accurate information so they wont be stuttering when asked questions regarding their products.

i was @ bankphb adeola odeku v.i last week thursday and what i was told made me pretty disappointed.it goes to show that the information given out via the media is only half truth!!! huh
first, you need to save 10% of the total amount you'd need(e.g tuition,accommodation,maintenance etc). afterwards, to qualify for the loan, you must have 20%of the total amount(cash in hand) plus collateral worth 130% of the 80% the bank is offering. the maximum payable by the bank is 5million. the interest rate is 17-19%(customer care wasn't sure as at the time of my my inquiry) monthly!!!!. can u believe that MONTHLY!!! and you have 42months to pay back or else, the collateral will be possessed.
i was also informed that you could have a guarantor, who'd service the interests monthly till you return after which you're given 6months grace period for the commencement of your paybacks!!(assuming you'd have secured a job by then).
How interesting! is that a loan or outright intended slavery? if these banks cant offer anything better, an offer they wont even risk letting their relatives securing, they should just settle for their 'deposits and withdrawals' banking, or retail banking.
i was totally pissed and just struck it off completely from my list of alternatives for securing funds for my U.K masters.

@uchetobi
wtf are you talkin about? are u a student of OAU ife if you aren't of CU? see UNIBEN (electrical engineering) graduated 15 1st class in the last graduating set, we all know why these things happen. not that we don't have brilliant students in public universities, they oonly withold 1st class to preserve the integrity of the department. had a couple of friends that graduated with 4.48,4.49 and so on, there's something called multiplication factor, where they multiply your cgpa by a factor thus reducing it to 2.1 in effect!! while we\ve often seen upgrades from 4.48 to 4.51 to make a first class if there's no one in the 1st class range. the only reason elect elect in uniben did what they did was because it was bcomin too obvious the multiplication factor thing(which is illegal).thus senate met and decided to award all deserving students - this rarely happens,
for my private university dudes, we know these things, all the best of the best lecturers are still in the public universities, how much do they even pay resident lecturers, i know of babcock (60k); except for visiting lecturers which are of course permanent lecturers in public unversities. so what are we talkin about?
if you graduated from a public university, you'll know that 1st class is a big BIGGIE(to use your words).Private universities are not it at all, do they even need Jamb to gain admission? its all about the money. the more the school e.g CU appears to do very well, the more the patronage.
Imany have worked under me in my office as IT students, and i wonder, they aren't spectacular,infact many of them are like birds just let loose from captivity. they do things that they cant imagine doin in school.not neccesarily better than those from public universities, just cleaner most of the time 'cos they're from rich homes.

, to be continued,

i know a credible WIMAX solution in victoria island with base stations all over lagos. the wimax vendor is Alvarion, they are world renowned in wimax hardware. there is a base station in aspamda which can suitably serve your location in igando. Wimax is a wireless broadband solution that has astronomical range. it is also a non-line-of-sight technology that offers great speeds. dependin on your enterprise requirements, the SUSI(Subscriber Unit Self Install) can be provided or the more robust BreezeMAX. visit www.monarchng.com for further details. you can ask me for more details,

@okdaniel
thanks man for your analysis.
well i can rightly say that i'm in the second level as u put it in your scale. i've worked in 2 other telecomms firms in the past. my present employers have so much fate in me that i was sent over to abuja to start a branch office. due to admin mismanagement, a lot of things have gone wrong in my company. i stated it earlier in my post that and average of 2 people resign every month. my direct boss(also reject the bond) (one step ahead of me) is due to resume on the 15 of may in another telecomms firm in a very high capacity. he has promised me a job offer, as he'll be in charge of recruiting able hands for his department. - its a new outfit.
i can boldly say, i am good at my JOB.

CareerI Rejected A 2 Year Bond By My Office Sending Me On A One Week Course To Uk by mikkyphp(op): 11:36am On Apr 28, 2008
Hi all, am kinda in a fix. i work in a telecomms firm in lagos and i and 2 other of my colleagues were selected to go on a 5 day course in london. the problem now is that, on friday, a form was sent to me by my superiors asking i append my signature to a document bionding me with the company for 2 years(within which i cant resign). I've been nursing plans to leave this company since last year and my runs is likely to click 2-3months from now but its not certain. i bluntly rejected to sign the bond, so did my counterparts. I'm not sure what my fate is right now in my office as we(3 of us) are the only ones qualified to go on the training course. the company is being run like it will crash soon ans an average of 2 people resigns every month! Gosh i dont know what to do, i dont want to lose my job and at the same time there's none in the offing. do you think i will be sacked?
on friday there's goin to be a board meeting, i think our fate in the company is goin tobe discussed.
